I hated taking my recycling and trash down when it gets full because there is only one trash area in my complex and it was a major wreck! Now that ZipEco is offered to us I love "trash day". The person working our route is always here right at 7pm so I can bring in the receptacle before I head to sleep for the night. The instructions for use are well explained and easy to do, and nightly service makes it easy to stay on top of your housework. Before my roommates and I would stuff the trash so full we could barely close it because none of us wanted to take the trash down the stairs and then fight for space in the full dumpster. My neighbors never flattened their cardboard boxes down so the recycling was a nightmare every week. Now with the rules ZipEco has in place they have to flatten the boxes and recycle correctly if they want it to be taken! ZipEco was the best idea my management has ever had, I appreciate this company so much, they make the worst part of housework way easier for me.

The recycling side has always been set up efficiently with friendly staff and a clean environment. They take a wide range of items. If you're ever unsure, check their website for a full list. On our most recent visit to the recycling area we were abruptly and rudely scolded for driving a company vehicle to drop off 3 gallons of antifreeze. My husband had recently flushed the coolant in his classic car and didn't want to transport the antifreeze in his fully restored car, so he decided to bring it to the recycling center in his work truck. The woman in the hazardous waste area jumped on us as soon as we pulled up, accusing us of bringing 'business' waste and not personal waste. We assured her it was from a personal vehicle. She seemed skeptical. It was a pretty awkward transaction. Other than our most recent experience, I would recommend this central transfer and recycling center.

I live in Beaverton and the redemption center by me is a mess with a very long line of people cashing in their max. This was shockingly efficient - even with the people in line who clearly know what's what and are ready to rock. Everyone was averaging 2 bags. There is a security person right at the door calling out the free lane for you to go to. The floor was clean and I was just impressed as to the efficiency and how fast it was.

But the reality is that 95% of ppl at the bottle drop are homeless. So why is the city not providing a trash bin nearby?? It's ridiculous. In my case it wasn't much trash and we were parked outside a nearby business so we put the trash in a trash can outside. There was no sign saying what sort of trash was allowed or not allowed. The security guard for the business (Lowe's) was outside and didn't say a thing when I put the trash in the bin. He then took the trash back out and chased us down with it! It was uncalled for! What a power trip! Why not have a sign on the trash can, or say "I'm sorry no recycling trash in that bin". When I asked why he didn't just say something or have a sign he immediately became volatile saying "have fun sleeping outside"! H clearly is blinded by hatred for the homeless community that makes up the majority of folks in that area bc neither myself or my son look homeless anyway but it still doesn't excuse his behavior. In the end though.. where are homeless ppl supposed to put their garbage?? Carry it around for eternity?? Can the bottle drop area get a trash can for crying out loud?? Portland residents are taxed enough to support a dumpster. I don't think it's an unreasonable request seeing how the mission of the bottle drop is supposedly to keep Oregon clean and pristine. The dumpster has huge holes leaking sewage and rot onto the ground creating an infestation of maggots all over the property. I have complained to them about this and they said I need to speak with the apartment complex about that. I have tried to do that on numerous occasions and they are ignoring the problem much like waste connections. This is a serious health issue, one that needs to be addressed, and one that is being created by waste connections faulty dumpsters.

Total Reclaim, Inc. accepts all sorts of stuff (computers, home and office electronics, TVs, stereo gear, even some appliances, you name it!) and it all gets 'reclaimed' so none of it ends up in any landfills.
