Dr. Schwamb's customer service was great! He seems to genuinely care about the health of his patients eye care, and was straightforward with his advice. The main reason for the lower rating is simply because of the customer service provided by one of the members from the from desk staff. There were slight indiscriminate indiscretions noted from interacting with her that left me feeling an overwhelming sense of feeling like I received inferior service. The young lady ignored me twice as I stood directly in front of her asking simple questions to assess how I needed to move forward with potentially purchasing frames, in which prompted another worker to ask if I received an answer from her. Overall, I had an appointment, received an eye examination , and purchased a nice pair of frames. But, I will not utilize this office moving forward for my family's or my own appointments. read more

Dr Schwamb did a good job. However the billing and insurance processing by Clarkson is terrible. Because they processed it using the wrong insurance I overpaid by $303.94. I called the store an hour or two after I Ieft, they said they needed to get some approval before they could fix the matter. They eventually submitted it to the correct insurance, but their new invoice does not show the amount I already paid and they're asking me to pay $238.27 more. I've had numerous texts and calls trying to get this straightened out over the last 3 months. It's still unresolved. Absolute jokes over here. Messed up my appointment 3 times, couldn't figure out who transfer me to order new lenses. Finally after the 3rd attempt they booked my appointment with the right doctor at the right location. It's a snow and ice storm and I end up being 2 min past the 10 min grace period. Despite the fact that I called and pleaded that I was on the way, please don't cancel me the roads are sketchy and I'm almost there, they cancelled my appointment. The building was empty by the way and on a day where I'm sure people were missing and canceling appointments. Basically just a complete lack of empathy and the only solution they offered was for me to wait 2 hours for another appointment. I get I was late but your store is dead and it was 2 min past the grace period and I called to let you know. Really was just looking for any kind of accommodation or help but no the 10 min grace period is the ultimate and infallible law of the land even in the most understandable of circumstances. Looking forward to finding a new optometrist for the foreseeable future EDIT finding a new optometrist is a headache but still faster and easier then trying to get an appointment with these clowns (44 min phone call just to make the wrong appointment) read more

I started coming to Clarkson after college (10 years ago or so) because I had never had any real issues with my eyes before-- just needed contacts/glasses and it was pretty straightforward. I came to this specific location in November 2023 and the doctor upped my prescription and recommended I switch from my contact lenses to a new brand. I didn't have any vision problems when I came in, nor was I having any issues with my contacts. After a few weeks with the new contacts, I found them to be kind of uncomfortable, but not a huge deal. My eyes were more tired than usual too, but I chalked that up to having toddlers and lack of sleep. Then in late December, I had my first aura migraine. I then had several more aura migraines throughout January. My eyes were so tired. I couldn't look at screens for more than a few minutes at a time. It hurt to look at my phone to text, even traffic lights were too bright. This went on for months and I just assumed it was hormones from having a kid. I got a neurologist and a CT scan, I did blood tests. The whole 9 yards. They couldn't find anything. I went back to this location at the beginning of June because I wanted my old contact brand back. They would not allow me to order it without coming back in for another exam. Did the exam. A new doctor checked my prescription and agreed with what the first doctor had said, even after I explained everything that had happened to me. I said I thought my prescription might be incorrect and she reassured me that this just happens to some people and that I should just "wear my sunglasses" to help with my newfound light sensitivity. A week later, I decided I wanted to see a new optometrist from a well respected practice in St. Louis. I explained everything and she was super concerned. She did an eye exam and was shocked at how intense they had my prescription. She lowered it, in both eyes, significantly. She also ran a bunch of tests to check my eye health. All good there. That was almost a week ago, and my eyes are finally starting to feel normal again for the first time in 6 months. I cannot caution you enough; if your eyes are healthy and you want to keep them that way, go to a private practice that's well respected. Not here. read more

The Clarkson team in the St Peter's and O'Fallon area are always great at fitting me in to resolve my issue quickly. (I live in Arkansas but frequent Missouri to be with family, so i have come to rely on Clarkson when visiting.) read more

I hate coming here Dalton is rude every single time, pick and chooses who to be kind and provide adequate customer service to. I have to ask all the questions abt my results because she provides little details and for some reason expects me to magically know. She's doesn't explain anything!! I have to ask. I spend money here you're the doctor you tell me what your putting in my eyes and ask abt the concerns I present, instead I'm told "go to your medical doctor" for what I'm sure is occipital neuralgia. So disgusting when a medical "professional" is being rude and non informative as if I want to have issues with my eyes. If I could give her a -100 rating I would. My experience at Clarkson Eyecare on Zumbehl Rd was extremely pleasant. I was taken in promptly. The staff was helpful and friendly. And I was able to obtain an appointment with ease. Dr Schwamb was very kind, professional and knowledgeable. I definitely left the office understanding the condition of my eyes, and what I needed to improve my sight. I had to search for a new eye doctor last year after the place I went stopped taking my insurance. I found Clarkson Eye Care and Dr. Schwamb and I couldn't be happier with the care I receive! From the moment you walk in, every staff member is attentive, helpful, and kind. I know in a busy day it can be easy to rush patients in and out, but I've never found that to be the case here. My eyeballs might as well be cubes. Contacts have never fit them properly. No eye doctor ever seemed to care until I saw Dr. Schwamb. He has been so helpful in trying to find contacts that work for ME. He's very young but knowledgeable (very cute too!). This is a follow-up review. This time the review is for me. I was very satisfied with my Clarkson experience. They were able to fit me with glasses, troubleshoot why I have had chronic nausea from my old glasses and figure out my confusing insurance information all while smiling. The prices are fair, the selection is great and the staff is knowledgeable. You can't ask for a better optical experience. I am more than happy with my new glasses, and I have NO NAUSEA! On Dec 31, 2021 I had an appointment with Dr. Schwamb. I have been wearing glasses or contacts for almost 30 years and he is the best doctor I've been to. I would recommend him to anyone. If it wasn't for his excellent service I would have given 0 starts. My complaint is with their billing practices. I understand that sometime there are extra charges that insurance didn't cover and an additional will bill be sent. The bill (for my services) was sent in my family member's name to her address. Thereby releasing my personal information to her which is a HIPAA violation. My family member contacted the office to find out what the bill was for since she has never been a patient of that office or doctor. They told her to disregard and they would contact me directly. I have never been contact by phone, email or mail. The only reason I know I have a bill due is because my family member contacted me. I logged on the the Clarkson website to see my bill. The amount due per their website is a lower amount than the paper bill that was sent to my family member. So what is the explanation for that? read more

Do NOT go here for glasses. The 1 star was for the doctor who was very nice. The lady who helped me pick out glasses was so nice till I had to bring them back because measurements were wrong. She than was very rude. I had to have the lenses re-worked twice. Than when I decided to just switch my progressive lenses to readers because they did not work they would not refund any of my money. read more

The staff though could use some more professionalism skills. One older female staff member was really cold and dry. Not welcoming at all. Before paying I recommend verifying the charges as they add all the add-ons without consulting with you first. I have been seeing Dr. Schwamb for about a month now. He was able to diagnose my eye issue and get it cleared up. Turns out, I'm allergic to the brand of contacts I was wearing that I got at Wal-Mart. Now, I've been fitted for a different brand of multi-focal contacts and I can finally wear my contacts comfortably. I didn't have a wait and was in and out of the office quickly at every visit; four total. The staff is amazingly kind and helpful as well. I would highly recommend Dr. Schwamb. read more

Where do I start? In December I had an eye-related emergency and I had made an appointment at a different location. Well, through their shoddy scheduling system, I ended up at 2 "wrong" locations and had my appointment rescheduled 3 times in that day alone. I ended up there at Zumbehl, where I (23 years old), was diagnosed with a cataract in my left eye. Fast forward to me post-surgery selling my contacts back that I couldn't use. They wanted me to drive all the way back to South county (convenient before I moved, but I like Dr Doiron and so was willing to make a once a year drive that direction), just to return this box of contacts because their computer system doesn't connect across the locations. Or so I'm told, that seems odd, to me. After much confusion about how much I should get back and do I have insurance and a bunch of other nonsensical questions that should be in their system, I ended up doing the return and got my money back with no further problems that day. Now, the office that was responsible for my post-op checkups wanted me to order the contacts myself and I found that I couldn't do it directly through the provider, so I ended up here. It's been a mistake. I ordered them last Friday, a single box of multifocal contacts, in case I have more changes. Bethany handled this transaction (she did the return as well) and I was told, after not too much confusion, that I owed $10 and some change for my contacts. I checked my bank account this morning and I see I've been charged $93 and some change. So I go in and explain the situation. They are insisting that this is what I owe. And then the magic question: did this go through my insurance? Well, no. WhyTF not? "Did you want it to?" ?! No, dear, I pay the insurance company so when I need a service I can pay full price for it. The guy, (Chad maybe?) was doing the computer work with Bethany standing behind and he made the statement that the insurance box had never been checked and they were SO confused over what insurance I had. They're naming an employer who I worked for fresh out of high school who I of course never had insurance through. In short, this place complicates EVERYTHING. The most simple task will turn into something long and arduous. It took 3 people to sort this out this morning. It was like watching the 3 Stooges screw in a light bulb. Avoid this place at all costs. On the bright side for me, I can now have my checkups through the surgeons office. read more

This place gave what they call an eye exam. The doctor that gave the exam could not have gave a more incorrect exam. The prescription they gave me was so far off I could not use it at all, I was better off not using any glasses at all. When I inquired about a re-exam, I was told this would cost additional. I will never use any of their locations based on the experience I had at this one. DO NOT go to Clarkson. This visit was terrible they took my kids off to another room and started asking a 9 yr old and 10 yr old medical questions. After I had my exam the doctor freaked out about something silly and I NEVER got a prescription from him. I paid above and beyond my co pay after being in the office for over 2 hours and one year later I get a bill for what I already paid because their billing department can not code things correctly. Grandson stopped in this location last week to see if he could use his Medicaid insurance to get exam and glasses and was told yes, Wednesday this week made online appt for today(7/21) @10:10. I received a call @9:56 saying "unfortunately this location does not accept Medicaid." Really? 14 minutes before his appt you realize you don't accept his insurance at this location even though he was told last week he could use it here? I have personally used this location in that past and stopped due to lackluster customer service, never treated rudely but didn't feel appreciated. Very disappointed in the lack of knowledge and communication, had we been correctly informed we could have made other arrangements instead of wasting a day off to take care of this. read more
