I hired City Renovations & Remodeling for a bathroom remodel last summer 2020. Michael Wiggs,…read moreowner/project manager, was assigned to my project and he was/is extremely unprofessional, nothing was on time, disrespectful behavior towards myself during disagreements and provided horrible customer service throughout the entire project. I would not highly recommend working with him and in fact if you've already received services from him please seek legal counsel. The contract I signed stated that this business is LICENSED, BONDED and INSURED in DC, which it is not. The license provided on my contract expired in 2006 per DCRA website. This inaccurate information is fraud. Michael Wiggs consistently reneged on many of the contract terms which were previously negotiated at the time I signed the contract. My contract was signed May 15,2020. The contract stated the projected start date was June 22, 2020. Work did not begin until August 10th and a new contract was not created. In addition, the contract's projected duration of the project was 2 weeks, weather permitting. My project was not completed until November 11th (4 months for a small bathroom remodel). In my opinion this was due to Mr. Wiggs poor project management. The first 6 weeks of the project I was out of my Condo because this is my only bathroom and the financial hardships placed on me at a time when COVID-19 was shutting down the DC area put a ton of stress on me. I was paying for living arrangements I could not utilize and I did not budget to be gone for the amount of time I had to be. I never received any compensation for this failure of Michael Wiggs to maintain the project timeline. When I returned to my unit I only had a toilet. There was no vanity, sink, or shower installed. One of my allotments was pocketed without a service or product being given. The contract mapped out 6 disbursements of money. However, once the project was almost half way through I was told by my contractor they could only withdraw 2 times from my loan and we needed to withdraw asap before my money was gone. Lastly, in the contract under "items not included" permit cost was stated, but within my line items permit was listed at a cost of $0. I eventually had to have DCRA close out my permits because he refused to close them out. There was always consistent miscommunication and lack of accountability from Michael Wiggs business, every issue was met with contempt instead of trying to find a solution. After all of this occurred, Michael Wiggs attempted to bully me by having a lawyer, Perry L. Foreman Jr., reach out to me to settle in the amount of $1,080.77 or they would move to sue me to obtain what they believe is what they are owed. Please understand as a consumer an unlicensed business cannot sue you in a jurisdiction that they aren't licensed. That's literally the purpose of the license so that the business can be protected by local laws. I did not give in to this tactic and instead I reached out to DCRA and the Consumer Protection Agency. Both of these local government offices have been extremely disappointing because they act as if they can't take action on the exact situations they were established to perform. The intentions of this review are to make all consumers aware of his business practices, understand local government offices will not be of any assistance and the best way to resolve these issues is to not get involved with them. When looking for a contractor please contact a property management company for a referral or obtain a referral from a trusted family member/friend. Make sure to obtain a business license, business insurance and scope of work from all contractors.

Last year, that fireplace was determined to be the cause of a devastating house fire that displaced my family. Following a thorough investigation, we were informed that the fire resulted from the fireplace being improperly installed. We also learned that the renovation was completed without the required Howard County permit. Had the proper permit been obtained, county inspections could have identified the installation issues before the project was completed. As a result, our home suffered extensive damage and is expected to take approximately 12 months to rebuild. Beyond the financial impact, this experience has taken an enormous physical and emotional toll on my family. Despite everything we've endured, we have not received any acknowledgment of responsibility from VKB Kitchens & Bath and they were informed last November (2025) that they were responsible for my house fire. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this company. If you're considering a home renovation, I encourage you to carefully research your contractor, verify that all required permits will be obtained, and make sure the work will be properly inspected. A renovation should improve your home, not put your family's safety at risk or turn your life upside down for years.

We had a truly amazing experience with Chase Remodeling, Bob and Derek Chase. Our house was built…read morein 1998 and the master bath and kitchen needed updating. Bob Chase came to my house multiple times to discuss, design, and finalize the plans for both projects. He was very kind and patient with me. The master bath was basically gutted (we removed a large jacuzzi tub and a small shower) and replaced the flooring, the cabinets, mirrors, toilet, and lighting, and designed a large, doorless, walk-in shower. This project took approximately 2 weeks for them to complete once the work was started. The kitchen was completely gutted. We changed all the flooring throughout our entire main level, updated the staircase, removed the wall between our old kitchen and formal dining room, and completely redesigned the flow of the kitchen/dining area. Installed all new cabinets and countertops, lighting, etc. We ordered all high end, custom cabinets, so it did take about 7 months between signing the contracts to the work beginning. Once the work started on the kitchen, flooring, stairs, etc. it took around 3 1/2 months and they worked nearly every day. The prices we agreed upon for both projects never changed. He never asked me for additional money for anything, which is something I was worried about having heard friends complain about that when they completed home projects. The only additional expense we had was because we decided while we had them there to go ahead and paint all the walls throughout the main level and the upstairs foyer (since the kitchen was so nice and new!) the same color we'd selected for the kitchen. Bob and Derek were both awesome to work with. Always polite, always helpful, had great ideas, and were communicative. That's another complaint I hear from friends is that their contractor would come one day and work and then they wouldn't see them for two weeks with no word about what was going on. We knew throughout both projects exactly what was going on and when. Additionally, all of the workers were very nice, super respectful of our home, and the work was impeccable. Very high quality and excellent attention to detail. I'm happy to speak with anyone who has questions about Chase Remodeling and the experience we had with them. We couldn't be happier and would highly recommend them for any home improvement projects you may be considering.

I contracted with Chase Remodeling on 3/20/2024 to tile a bathroom floor and shower. I paid a…read more$3,214 deposit and work was to be started in approximately 3-5 weeks and completed in approximately 4-7 days. After attempting several times in April to get someone to contact me about when work could start, six weeks lapsed with week seven commencing on Monday 4/29/2024 and no call or written communication to plan/schedule the tile work. I had to go to Chases place of business and spoke to the owner on Friday morning 4/26/2024 to request the contract to be terminated and have a refund provided. I was told 3 businesses days or less would be needed to make a decision. I received an email on the morning of 4/30/2024 with a picture of a letter and refund check to inform me that the refund was being mailed that day. The letter stated: "We are sorry that Chase Remodeling could not be of service to you and *your family. We have cancelled your contract and returned your deposit. If you should need our services in the future, please do not hesitate to call our offices." I am disappointed in the apathetic response and received no genuine apology or consideration for not meeting the period of performance within a reasonable period of time. Absolutely a frustrating experience.
