A little long and a little expensive I thought, but I believe it's better to be cheated in price than quality and they had good reviews so I figured I'd chance it. Also, just to add, I had washed and vacuumed the car the weekend before so it really wasn't that dirty, just some dog hair and other details that I didn't want to have to deal with myself. When my car was ready I came to pick it up and was not happy at all. As i started looking at the car I could spot multiple places that were missed as well as some places that were actually DIRTIER than when I dropped it off... One of the detailers noticed me checking the fuel tank cover interior which was still filthy and told me, "See the scratches in the dirt, we tried to clean it but couldn't get it all off." Low and behold, the owner also noticed and it took him all of one minute to fully clean it off. They also missed the lower door jams, both cup holders still had sticky residue still in them, and there was a large black spot I'm assuming from car oil from the shop on the left side of the driver's seat, in addition to other discrepancies. All in all, I feel like they spent about 1 hour on my car even though it was there for about 7. When I tried to talk to Ron about the lack of attention to detail (ironic when talking about a car detail...) he definitely left something to desire in the customer service department. After giving me many excused including that he "doesn't usually do that much work to other cars", Ron asked me what I do for a living as if I didn't know what I was talking about...why he asked that I'm not sure but it's definitely not a professional move. Sorry Ron, not a good job, wish it had gone differently.

But rather than spending $255 on a full complete detail she went looking around for a detail shop. She drove by this place on the way to work and decided to call Ron for a interior cleaning of her messy interior. I dropped off the car with Ron the night before her scheduled appointment and he looked at the car and said that the car was in pretty good condition and recommended that a hand wash and wax might be a good idea for an extra $25. The GF agreed and had that option added to her bill. We came back the following night to pick up the car. Because we were busy with other activities we asked Ron if he could leave the car outside and we would pick it up. He agreed to it. We got to the car and inspected the work. The car was very clean, the interior was like brand new. Apparently a few years ago there was a stain on the seat that my GF thought would never go away but they shampooed and cleaned the seats and the carpets. The interior was very clean. While the outside was clean there are some impurities that were on the car. Of course this was just a hand wash and wax so I wonder what it would the car feel like had she paid higher for a full exterior that likely include a clay bar or something. Building looks run down from the outside, but the service was pretty good. I might bring my car there since my GF was satisfied with the work.

The gentleman on the phone gave me a great price, $150. I only had $50 available. I asked if he could take the $50and wait till my next payday. He said he had to ask his boss. An hour later he calls me back and asked if I was able to find a way to get my truck to my house. I had not. He then took my offer and sent a driver to help. Driver Scott arrived and very carefully picked up my truck. The damage was really bad. The wheel was only attached to the truck be the brake caliper. Enter the junkyard. I've driven past Bud's about 800 times, on that part of SE 72nd that does a funny turn and ends up on Johnson Creek. You know it, right? Big corrugated metal fence with "BUD'S AUTO WRECKING" painted on it? Yeah, that's the one. I don't think the guy behind the counter, his friend on the other side, or any of the 4 cats I saw were named Bud. He might have been "Bob," since I saw "Happy Birthday 'Bob'" ("Bob" was in quotes) inscribed on the chalkboard in the smoky, plaque-filled front office that conjured powerful memories of my grandpa's 1950s mechanic shop. This place was awesome. "Bob" was awesome. Even the cats (whom he says people dump, he fixes and lets live there) were pretty freakin' awesome. My stepdad called ahead and "Bob" said they had the part, so we drove down to pick it up. Paid cash, went home to install it, and... ooops, turns out it wasn't quite the right part. So we went back, and as we walked through the door, I heard "Bob" say, "What happened, did I screw ya?" The year was right, but the make was wrong -- no harm, no foul -- he looked for the right one and didn't have any luck. So he punched in the part on his Commodore 64 and found it at a wrecking yard up the road a piece. Called them to make sure they were open and sent me and my cash on my way. I told him I'd always wanted to come by, and he said the next time I need a part, he'll give me a comprehensive tour. If that means I get to climb around on old smashed-up cars, my dreams of being a pre-teen boy in a striped shirt circa 1962 will be one step closer to fruition. I'm already thinking of more parts I need to replace. Thanks to Bud's and "Bob," I'll be a gearhead before you know it.

The customer waiting area was pretty packed when I took my car in for service this week. It's fairly comfortable and is kept clean. They have filtered water and a coffee machine that makes a variety of hot drinks (coffee, latte, hot chocolate, tea...) and a few snacks to offer. I appreciated the heads up from my service representative, that they were running just a little behind so the wait might be longer than I'd planned, but they were able to finish the maintenance on my car within an hour and a half, so it worked out well.

Update: After more thought, I decided to get my damaged car fixed instead of receiving an insurance…read morepayout. I took my car into Gateway Body Shop with body damage on multiple panels in front, sides, and back caused by a driver going over 50 mph (in a zone with a much lower speed limit) who ran into both my neighbor's car and my own when they were parked on the street. Many panels were replaced and the frame was also aligned and straightened. Gateway's cost came in under what other body shops had quoted. It looks better than it did before the accident and rides straight and true. Thank you, Ken, and all the people at Gateway Body Shop for such skilled work!

My car was deemed a total loss, but it doesn't excuse the condition my car was returned to me (I…read morehadn't decided if I was going to buy it back or not from the insurance company): Driver's door jam had duct tape, not painter's tape or masking tape, but actual duck tape wrapped from the B-pillar (outside the car) inside the door jam and around the plastic interior trim, likely to protect the surface or prevent the striker from slamming into the painted surface. The car was returned to me with the duct tape still stuck to the car and when it was removed, there was plenty of tape adhesive stuck to the interior. Someone drank a small carton of chocolate milk and jammed the empty carton under my passenger seat. Black, greasy hand and fingerprint marks on some tan plastic interior panels from removing/reinstalling them and not wiping them clean. Inside of my car smelled like cigarette smoke. Almost positive I saw an employee smoking inside the garage when I dropped the car off, which wouldn't be a problem if they could do it without making the cars stink.

They messed up on my car 5 times, I had to get 3 different rental cars because my car was not fixed. The first time I went to pick up my car, it was not finished so he had me come back a few days later. Even then when I came to pick it up, it still was not finished. I waited an additional 2 hours. The paint job was done poorly both times, and they managed to stain my passenger seat white, my seats are black, and embedded their finger prints into the paint job as well. When I came back the next time to pick it up, I honestly thought it was a freaking joke. My bumper was not lined up at all, my hood was not lined up, they put on a fender that belonged to a different car model! Now having to get my 2nd rental car, I came back to pick it up, everything on the outside seemed ok. So the next day I started to clean up the mess they left in my car, and my dad who is a mechanic, looked under my hood and everything was hanging by a thread. My AC unit was moving around, my radiator which was supposed to be a new one, was not replaced and also just hanging there. There were cords that we found that were not connected to anything. Almost ALL the screws were missing so everything was hanging on by one screw, I was filling up my wind shield wiper fluid and I pulled it out completely. My dad, who is a mechanic, told me that my car is unsafe to drive, and so I had to bring it back, and get now my 3rd rental car. Everything that was wrong under the hood were mistakes that no mechanic should have made. I vacuumed the entire inside of my car and found a handful of what I'm assuming were the screws that belonged under my hood, underneath my floor mat on the passenger side. When I dropped off the car for the last time, I asked if he needed me to show him everything that was wrong with the car. He told me no, but I proceeded to show him anyways because at this point its ridiculous, why is it taking 2 months for something that should've been done in maybe 2 weeks. After showing him everything that needed to fixed again, he brought me a box full of stuff that belonged to my car that went under the hood, including my horn. I've never been to a shop that is so unprofessional and allowing me to leave with my car in unsafe conditions. I don't really know what all the other stuff was but it was a pretty decent sized box. This last time that I went to pick it up, he told me he already ordered me a new hood and new bumper because at this point, somehow between fixing everything under the hood, there was now a dent in my hood that my dad said was caused by being dropped on the floor and had a decent size of paint missing from my hood, and the bumper was all scratched and still not lining up, neither was my hood. That was back in at the end of November. Now its the end of January and I texted him to check in and see what was going on because he said it wouldn't be here until after the holidays, and he would have it prepainted so that when I brought my car back to him all they had to do was put it on. Well now he's saying he never said that, and why would he do that, and now is no longer responding to my texts or calls. So I'm in my car that's still fucked up from my accident and he's just going to leave it like that. If i had the time and money I would take him to court. But I do not recommend this place. Unprofessional, shitty work, no respect for your time, and sketchy. Save yourself. Mind you, I was recommended by his son who was supposed to be my friend.... Not so much anymore. This place is a fucking joke.

Kim's International Auto has left me bitter and out $700. This was a total fiasco…read more My car didn't start one morning. Battery OK, got towed to Kim's based on good Yelp reviews. Two days later, no start. Towed back to Kim. Kim is shocked I am back. Looks at my car again. Installs new igniter. another couple hundred bucks. Asks me what kind of gas I used. "You cannot use Arco in that car!" he warns. "All alcohol. That's the problem." I spend 10 minutes listening to him defending his mechanical abilities and maligning Arco. This doesn't sound right. There are a few message board comments about the ethanol in Arco being too high, but certainly no agreement that brand of gas could cause such a problem. I don't buy it. But I could be wrong. Maybe Kim is among the first to figure this out. But if so, then why did he replace one part, and then another, if he believed the problem was cheap gas? So now my car is packing a new igniter, a new main relay, and a full tank of Chevron premium. Next day, car won't start. Since going to a new mechanic at this point will definitely cost me money, I reluctantly tow it back to Kim's. Next morning Kim calls to tell me my car started fine when he tried it, and so he can't diagnose the problem. "Well, I guess I'm out of luck." I don't think he is a bad man who purposefully cheated me, I think he made a series of mistakes and lacks the integrity to admit it. I am stuck with the bill, and a car that may not start in the morning UPDATE: My car did not start in the morning. Google suggested I change the distributor cap, which I did for $16. Now my car starts perfectly. A fellow Yelper picketed Kim's and got his money back for bad repairs, so I went in to confront Kim. Kim sort of admitted he had made a mistake, and I got $200 back. But I am still down $500.
