He took X-rays of my tooth from every side, with a lot of attention. My tooth had no damage. I did not need the work. The x-rays are conducted in the open hallway and the rooms themselves are terribly sectioned. While getting photos done the door was wide open and other patience's and drs are just walking by. Also just have to call out that all of these new "good reviews" are due to them giving out a free teeth whitening pen if you make a review. I want to stress this point. Based on conversations with Smile, I prepaid the full cost and fully expected to be completely reimbursed by my insurance because this kind of procedure is covered in-network. The insurance claim process dragged on for months due to repeated missing documentation and resubmissions. I spent an absurd amount of time chasing updates between the office and Delta Dental. In the end, Smile Lab took no responsibility and offered no meaningful accommodation, despite the confusing and misleading way the treatment was presented. I left feeling misled, frustrated, and deeply disappointed. I can see online from other reports on yelp, Google, and the Better Business Bureau that this happens quite frequently at this practice and the vehemently aggressive way they argue with patients in these reviews and BBB report filings is appalling. Extremely disappointing and misleading billing experience. I would not recommend this practice…read more Before scheduling my appointment, I specifically called the office to confirm that they accepted my MetLife PPO dental insurance. I was told that they did, and I was explicitly assured that if there were any reason my insurance would not cover the services, the office would let me know before I came in. Their website also indicates that they accept MetLife PPO. I also specifically asked about the cost of the services beforehand. During my appointment, the dental hygienist was supposed to inform me about an additional $395 charge but "forgot." I was only informed about this charge when I went to check out. At that point, I was pressured to pay the $395 and was repeatedly assured that my dental insurance would cover 80-100% of the costs. I have now found out that the claim was submitted as out-of-network, despite my having specifically confirmed my insurance status with the office beforehand, and my insurance ultimately covered none of the $395. What is most frustrating is that I made a point of calling ahead specifically to avoid exactly this situation. Had I been told that the provider was out-of-network or that I could potentially be responsible for hundreds of dollars, I would not have proceeded with the treatment. Patients deserve accurate information about both insurance network status and out-of-pocket costs before treatment, not a surprise $395 charge at checkout followed by assurances that insurance will cover it when that turns out not to be the case. I am extremely disappointed with how this was handled and will be telling my friends, family, and anyone I know looking for a dentist not to use this practice. I will be filing a formal complaint with the New York City Department of Consumer and Worker protection as well as the Better Business Bureau over these fraudulent and misleading practices.
