I have been visiting this practice for years and have really loved it. I usually see Dr. Tomack who is so thorough, confident, and funny as well. Recently though I had to see Dr. Behrens. Well I didn't think I could like a dentist as much as Dr. Tomack but I do! She is so careful and explains everything she is doing. She is really kind and makes you feel comfortable. A typical dentist experience feels like walking into a medieval times dungeon because of our bad past experiences. As you open the creaking front door to that terrifying dungeon your nerves get the best of you prior to sitting in the most uncomfortable chair only to prepare to be pricked, probed and drilled in agonizing pain. Terrified out your wits you sit staring at all the barbaric instruments this doctor will soon use on your mouth possibly without proper numbing agents. The dentist doesn't realize that milk of poppy just doesn't cut it in the 21st century, the dentist knows nothing John Snow! What typically comes next is too horrifying to describe and will only cause those traumatic experiences to resurface. Rest assured Manhattan Dental Studio is a modern state of the art facility with free Wi-Fi, amazing staff and nothing like any bad experience we may have had in our past. I'll be the first to admit I hate visiting the dentist because of that dreadful feeling that I'm going to leave worst than I arrived and experience pain I didn't have before my visit. At this dentist office you are welcomed as a new patient with such enthusiasm the only thing missing is them physically rolling out a red carpet. From the first visit you're made to feel like your health and business matters so as you walk through that front door the nerves are put at ease upon checking in with the amazing ladies at reception. Those ladies at reception make that first impression absolutely amazing, they really make the initial experience very positive. When you get into that examination chair, OMG it's so darn comfy I think I almost fell asleep on the doctor, as it comes with a soft head pillow. The office has modern high tech gadgets including teeth cameras that I had never seen before and I was at another dentist several months ago. It never felt like the doctor was pulling out some antiquated equipment they found on eBay. They have equipment on hand to give you the very best possible treatment available. I see Dr. Behrens and she's absolutely amazing! She makes sure your comfortable, she's kind, has a great bedside manner and her work thus far leaves me fearless about visiting her again. She made sure I was properly prepared for a cavity filling so that I didn't feel any pain and I felt absolutely no pain during the procedure (I almost feel asleep I was so comfy). I can't say enough about how pleasant the overall experience at this office truly is from the amazing staff and the feeling that I'm getting quality modern care. After my very first visit I even got a neat little post card actually signed and written out by the staff. The card wasn't necessary but I was like "wow" because sometimes it's the little things that make all the difference, that personal touch. Your worst experience at this office will be passing by the middle eastern descent looking security guard in the building lobby that seems to hate his job but that's not within the control of the dentist office. Make your way past that angry White Walker guarding the building lobby and enjoy the amazing experience the staff at this dentist office will provide. If you can obtain some dragon glass it might boost your confidence passing the angry White Walker in the building lobby. :o) read more

I have waited several months to consider what I would write. Well, you get what you pay for ($3,400/crown) and the result is great. Not because Dr. Tomack is a great dentist....he is "just" a dentist. The beauty of the crown is due to the color evaluation lab to match the color to natural teeth. Go to another dentist ($1.500-$2,500/crown) and use the dental color lab. Dr. Tomack is "never" wrong. Had two crowns (side-by-side). First one fine. Second one wasn't positioned correctly. I called the office because it "bothered" me (I was in pain). Made an appointment and was called at home (that night) by Dr. Tomack and he said there wasn't a problem. (Why would I be in pain?) I had to reschedule. When I arrived he removed cement that was wedged between my gum and tooth. Still in pain the next week and emailed and emailed and emailed. (He was very confrontational when he called me at home, at night.) Next week...next week... "What would you like me to do?" I said: "Do the right thing and re-do it". Another week of pain and he finally relented. Had crowns done in May and now (finally) end of June...I wasn't in pain any more. Asked why he didn't do the right thing in the first place. $6,800 total....seriously???? Response: "You are on heavy duty medicine (9/11 PTSD)" and he didn't believe me. What does my toothache have to do with the PTSD. Did he discriminate? Get the color lab and go to some one else. read more

I've been to a couple other dentist offices in Manhattan and this was by far the best experience I've had! When I went in for a cleaning, everything ran on time, and I was treated like royalty. The front desk was welcoming and went out of their way to double-check insurance and any other questions I had. Jessica put me at ease and made sure I had everything I needed. My dental hygienist, Kima, was great and I am definitely going to request her again. She explained what she was going to do before she did it and checked in at various times to make sure I was comfortable. She was extremely sensitive to my needs and reactions while she was working on my teeth and afterwards my mouth felt so clean! Dr. Ricchardi, with Maria assisting, was also great. He did a thorough examination of my teeth and assured me that he was there to make sure I was happy with my smile. He didn't push any services on me (which I've definitely had experience with other dentists doing in the past), but showed real pride in ensuring that I was happy and satisfied. A little thing, but very indicative of the care I received in this office: While cleaning my night guard, Maria noted that the case was broken and replaced it with a brand new one. Dr. Winokur took great care of me and listened to the issues I had. If you look at a previous yelp review of a dentist, you can see I have had a bad experience. Maria the dental hygienist was very sweet and was good at her job. Not only did the medical professionals help with my visit but the desk staff was kind and courteous. They even submitted my claim on my mouth guard to the insurance, even though the insurance told her via phone they don't cover it. Dr. Tomack and the office were extremely nice, polite and outgoing, the most I've experienced in an office - 5 Stars! The issue I have is that I brought recent x-rays from another dental office (prior week) to have ONE cavity filled, in a less invasive way, per their website. Long story short, Dr. Tomack filled the wrong tooth. When I went back to my first dentist and then to a third dentist to confirm this, those dentists agreed that the x-rays showed ONE cavity, a cavity in the tooth, that Dr. Tomack neglected to fill. In addition, overall, from moving around and going to several dentists over the years, each dentist seems to have some additional, unique service(s) that they strongly recommend for my teeth, including Dr. Tomack - additional fillings, gum grafting, veneers, overlays, re-doing crowns, etc. If I followed all these dentists' various recommendations, I'd be better off with dentures. read more

I have had the pleasure of knowing Dr Gary Tomack for 23 years. He did my laminates 20 years ago, and is in the process of redoing them now. That's how long they've lasted! Far exceeded the capacity of the materials used so many years ago -- which is a true testament to his amazing abilities! He's an incredible dentist, and a true artist, cosmetically. His office could not run better, or his staff be more professional or friendly. In addition, Dr T's true concern for his patients is bar none. There has NEVER been a time when he has worked on me, that was not followed up with a phone call later inquiring as to how I was feeling. He genuinely cares. I made it into my 30's before having my first cavity, and now the good times are over. I had it drilled by Dr. Behrens and it was a...good experience? It feels strange to say that getting a cavity filled was a good experience, because you hear nothing but dental horror stories typically, and yet it was just that: a good experience. I didn't feel a thing and Dr. Behrens was very respectful of the fact I was super nervous and had never had major dental work done before. The cavity was a large one too and I am hopeful the tooth was salvaged. The office is nice and modern and comfortable. They even have a TV in the room with you so you can watch TV and try not to pay attention to your mouth. Appointments have been right on time which I appreciate. I have to go back in a few weeks for more fillings, and will update the review if need be, but as of now I have zero anxiety about it! read more

Extremely happy with this Dental Practice!!! Everyone from the front desk, to technicians, to the dentists are courteous and very professional. I transferred from Dallas to NYC and this office happens to be across the hall from mine. I originally went here for convenience, but will continue to be a client after 5 successful visits in the last 5 months. "There's no place like home" ... and in NYC it's always nice to find a place where staff is just as friendly and cost is comparable to Texas. Bought the living social deal for teeth whitening. Overall very good experience. I went there twice, once to get trays fitted and second time to pick up. Both time people were very nice and helpful. First time also Dr. Tomack stopped by to take a quick look at my teeth and give some good feedback. He also seemed very friendly. Second time I got the trays with the hydrogen peroxid (which after two weeks also worked very well). In all great experience and very good value. Now if they were to accept my insurance I would probably come back for more. read more

I had a dental emergency the other morning (broke 2 teeth in an accident). I was referred by my oral surgeon that same morning. I was terrified. Had braces as a kid and this was devastating. I was greeted warmly and was seen almost immediately. The Doctors were very reassuring (I was shaking when I got there). I felt very secure after we discussed my situation and options. I spent the morning going from oral surgeon to oral surgeon before my appointment. I was thirsty and exhausted (it was a very draining experience). I was going to take a drink of water from the rinse cup. Instead I was offered bottled water. Wow that was great. They have a very professional and pleasant manner. I have been to Dr. Behrens twice (1 cleaning and 1 filling) and both experiences have been great. Here's why: - Very professional and kind/friendly all around - Doctor, hygienist, assistant, and front desk staff - Pain free filling experience. Used a topical numbing gel to numb the gum before using a needle to apply the Novocain. Didn't feel a thing. Made sure tooth was completely numb before drilling. After Novocain wore off, didn't feel any pain. Magic. - Used new technology to take photos of your teeth along with xrays to show you areas where new fillings are needed so when you are told you have to get a bunch of fillings, you see the proof (and get simultaneously scared into taking better care of your teeth)! - Email you ahead of time to confirm appointment and give you approximate cost of that upcoming visit. - Great suggestions/advice for continued oral health care read more

I became a patient here when my usual dentist couldn't fit me in for emergency treatment (three broken front teeth from a mugging). Dr. Tomack expedited an evaluation and treatment plan that involved rapid connection to an endodontist for a root canal and a prosthodontist here for an implant. He worked out a fair pricing plan, and provided excellent treatment. His staff are warm and supportive, from the dental assistants and hygienists to the front desk staff. It was really a great experience from before I even walked in the door. Carmina at the front desk communicated with me by email when I needed to cancel twice due to my hectic schedule. Also they have convenient text reminders that allow you to confirm your appointment via text. My hygienist was so great. I usually dread a cleaning but Jen put me at ease and made me feel good about myself for my good flossing habits :)! Also had some very helpful advice about the best ways to brush since I was doing it too hard and damaging my gums. Dr. Tomack came in and took pictures of my teeth and put them up on the TV showing me dental sealant that I didn't even know I had from childhood!
