I want to thank John and team at Classic German Motors for taking care of my 2015 MB GLA 250. John and the shop was recommended by my son's golf coach and it was a perfect referral. We got our Benz at the local dealer in Glendale (Calstar), and made the jump to a local mechanic, Classic German Motors, for the first time after the years of taking the Benz into Calstar for servicing. I was thoroughly impressed at how John broke down everything to me before any of the service started. Information on the service was transparent and pricing and the estimates were always agreed upon before anything was started. Overall I had 3 things worked on and it was completed pretty quick, front brakes and rotors change, service B, and auxiliary battery replacement. Pretty big jobs. I visited Classic German Motors today for the second time to possibly drop my vehicle off for further inspection/diagnoses for a parking brake issue for my BMW. I had visited the week prior and had a pleasant interaction with John, who was very courteous and professional, which made me want to return to the business. During the visit, John and I took a test drive together in my vehicle to identify the problem and he even put it on the lift for me and looked at the undercarriage. John had stated to me to bring my vehicle in anytime during business hours during the weekday on the days of Wed., Thurs., or Friday as a follow-up so they could get to the bottom of the problem. He offered me a business card and our interaction ended. Today is Friday on the following week, so I brought my vehicle in. I was just following instructions on what I had previously been told, that I could stop in during business hours and discuss the problem or leave my vehicle for further examination. I met with Steve, the owner I believe, at the front desk, who rudely spoke to me, in such a manner I was offended by the condescending attitude. Steve was short with me, talked to me like I was stupid, and didn't seem like he wanted to be bothered. My demeanor was calm, understanding and friendly. This message is for you, Steve, you just lost a potential customer because you don't know how to be professional. I took my car to a place down the street and they are are going to take care of it for me. Thanks for talking to me like I'm stupid for not "scheduling an appointment". I had used this shop for years, until I found out I couldn't rely on them. When I had an accident in '08 they replaced the engine which was close to $10000 job. But a year later "Check Engine light" kept coming on. When I brought the car in they said "If the car runs fine, don't worry" and programmed the light off. But it kept coming back on. Every time I brought my car for oil change, brakes, changing tires, I brought up the "Check Engine light" issue, but they simply turned it off. They told me if I really want to find out what's the problem with the engine, I have to pay for the computer software for them which is several hundred dollars. Being in a budget, I had to trust their words when they said no worries if the car runs fine. Last year my car couldn't pass the smog test due to that light. The mechanic who did the smog test didn't have a computer software either but diagnosed my car simply by trials and errors taking time. He finally told me the engine needs cylinder head gaskets to be replaced. It's not just to pass the smog test, but I felt sense of betrayal to learn that I had been driving around with a damaged engine for over a year. When I called back to discuss this engine problem with Classic German Motors owner, he simply denied any reponsibility. I was hoping they would fix the problem gracefully and honored the fact that they're ones who replaced the engine. But he blamed me for keep driving the car. They didn't remember that I kept bringing the Check Engine light issue to them many times whenever I brought the car in.... It cost me $1530 to fix the engine which had been replaced NEW two years ago by Classic German Motors. read more

I took my car in for an oil change per the phone call that I received to remind me to come in. My check engine light was also on so I asked them to check it out. This was on Thursday. I ended up getting my car back on Monday, with the repairs being close to $800. $55 to pressure test the coolant system $35 for the coolant cap. In total $90 alone and they said that was the problem. A few days later and I need to stop my car, wait for it to cool, and add more fluid. Wth -_- I'm also not sure why I was charged $20 for fuel. I was also advised that in order to have the check engine light it was going to cost around $800 so in total I would spend $1500. I'm just not happy. I feel like I wasted $750 and my car is still in the same condition it was when I brought it in. I don't have all the time in the world or all the resources to keep bringing my car back. I am beyond impressed how honest this shop is and the great work they provide. they have worked on my old SL500, Our 2014 GLK 4matic and now my 2015 BMW 4281 convertible. Bmw has an issue they do not let owners know about. it has to do with the locking lug nuts on the car and the lock key that breaks. Classic German had this issue with my car. they took it to BMW to discuss the issue and rectify it. Wow they went out of their way to actually take it to a bmw tech. the tech knew about the problem. BMW is trying to make it so you have to go to the dealer and not independent shops. Thank you Classic German motors for being on my side. I appreciate you making sure I did not have to buy a new wheel due to BMW's poor manufacturing of locking lug nuts. Also thank you for just being so great. I have a '98 E320 that had not been serviced in years and had a serious issue with the alarm/electrical/door locks that I had been ignoring for years. The fan in front of the radiator started to run very fast with the ignition off until the battery died. I dropped it off with John and Esteban and after a rough estimate I ok'ed them to start work. They replaced the motor and transmission mounts, fixed the electrical/alarm issues, flushed the transmission, replaced the leaking valve cover gaskets, even threw in a used valve cover because one was rotten through, replaced a leaking power steering gasket among other things. The staff was honest and fair with me. I am very pleased that my old vehicle is back in tip top shape for such a fair price. Thanks guys. New customer for life. read more

I have been taking my vehicles to Classic German Motors for 20+ years and wouldn't consider going anywhere else. I started coming to them with my Volvo. My car had just gone off warranty and the dealer claimed I needed several thousand dollars of work. That didn't sound right to me since I got my car serviced regularly. A friend referred me to John and Steve and I ended up spending a few hundred dollars. Since that time I've taken my Mercedes for service and have always appreciated the quality customer service as well as the honesty and integrity with which John and Steve run their business. AWFUL CUSTOMER SERVICE EXPERIENCE: I visited this shop on a Friday a few weeks ago and sat in my car for a little while before getting out. I was on a conference call but the manager came out to the parking lot & chastised me for just sitting there even though he didn't know what I was doing. When I rolled down my window he ACCUSED me of loitering but little did he know I was about to come in & make an appointment for a tune-up. Due to his rude attitude, I never got out of my car and ended up spending my money elsewhere. After all, why would I pull into his lot just to sit around when there was plenty of open street parking around this establishment? Never once did he ask me if I needed help with my car or even if everything was okay. I believe this mechanic is RACIST & did not want a person of color paying him to work on their Mercedes. read more

They'll go over the procedures so that you can understand what is going in your car. They will also give you an entire report through email and a hard copy before you pick up your car. So far, so good. The dropped stars are for the price. I paid about twice what I probably should have, and I felt like this was because they knew I was in a bind. I was getting a bit disenchanted with my old service company Silver Star in Monterey Park. Many good people left the company and my last visit was quite expensive and did not fix my problem. Anyway, got a referral to this place, and I strongly recommend it to anyone that wants their old mercedes serviced. My 1989 560SL needed some attention, and John, the owner, service manager, did everything at a very low price (I guess this is relative). They fixed my power steering leak, A/C vent not working properly, power windows not working, lube and did a safety check, all for $800. America's Tire had a great deal on a set of new tires but I am bringing the car back for a $95 alignment. read more

What can I say about CGM? My parents were bringing their Mercedes here before I could drive. When my parents and I were choosing my first car, we choose a Volvo so we could go to CGM. When someone totaled my Volvo and it was time for me to buy my first car, I wanted to get a BMW, Volvo, or Mercedes in large part so I would be able to take it here. I take my 5 series here for everything. My family takes their Mercedes here for everything. I've never seen an angry customer in 10 years of going to the shop. I've never even seen an unhappy customer. John and Steve know what they are talking about. They know the cars, they get it right and the prices are fair. The work gets done when they say it will, and they are have awesome customer service. I recommend them to everyone I know w/ a BMW, Volvo, or Benz. When my boss' wife's G-Class kept making a funny sound, Beverley Hills Mercedes couldn't figure out what was wrong after more then 3 visits. I recommended CGM. Fixed on the first visit.
