Less than a month after I bought my 2004 C240 I smashed the front right wheelwell into a curb and damaged the entire wheel casing. A friend I trust recommended John and Steve at Classic German Motors and I took it in. The repair was extremely reasonable ($40! when does any automotive repair cost $40?) and they also fixed my tempermental center console for free. An overall diagnostic revealed some engine problems that were covered by my extended warranty and they complete the repairs in a timely fashion and also followed up on getting payment from my extended warranty and sent me a check for more than what I expected. Because they take no shortcuts, nor use inferior parts or cheap lubricants, insist on using manufacturer specs and materials only, and constantly are learning the latest technology and studying the latest advances in state-of-the-art, high-performance auto repair. Honest mechanics! I have been going to Steve and John since 2001 for all maintenance and repairs that do not fall under dealer warranty. With my first MBZ in 2001, I learned that dealers always overcharge, ie. when I went in for a 6 month check up at MBZ of Encino and was told that I needed all new brakes. I went to Steve for a second opinion who confirmed that the brakes were like new. This week, I took my new GLE to Rusnak Pasadena for what turned out to be a wire chewed by a rodent. The quote for repair (no parts) was $686. I was skeptical and took the car to Steve who repaired it on the spot for $150 and the sensor immediately stopped beeping. They also give me advice on when to replace my car, which doesn't help them since new cars require few repairs. With cars being so technical these days, we are forced to rely on mechanics to be truthful. I have found this always to be the case with Classic German Motors. I feel this review is long overdue! Thus, it shall be a long, half a dozen year's worth review. This auto shop is a hidden treasure in the heart of Pasadena. I have brought my 2003 MBZ C240 to Classic German Motors since 2012. To this day, the car remains my one and only reliable vehicle (at 197,878 miles!) fully serviced & maintained ONLY by Classic German Motors. John, Esteban, Ben, & Jasmin, along with the rest of their team have always provided exemplary service to me as the "owner", and to my car, their "patient". Every single time I brought my car in for service, prompted by the car's alert (Service A/Service B due), John/Esteban would thoroughly explain: 1) what "procedures" need to be done, 2) what can wait until the next visit, and 3) what is unnecessary, unless you have extra $ you want to spend (like the popping inside door handle on passenger side--"too much Labor cost just to replace a $15.00 part at this time") Although it would always be better to call first & schedule an appointment, they have always been attentive during the times I just stopped by because I "felt" or "could hear" that something did not seem right with the car. John would patiently explain what's going on, what's on watch, what to observe in the car etc etc When there really was something wrong on such drop-in visits, they take the car in that same day and I would be driven back to work by Ben in the courtesy vehicle. No problem--no wasted time. During these times, when the courtesy vehicle picked me up at work/home, I would request to be driven to the bank first before heading back to the shop--no problem! All this at no charge, part of CGM's full courtesy service. This shop does not nickel & dime you. My radaiator fan do not stop. I tried other auto garage. Their initial diagnosis fee is $80 with TBD amount of time. I found Classic German Motors from Yelp and went there. They replaced a relay in the fuse box and charged only $20. It took only 5 minutes!!! read more

I have been coming to this shop for about 5 years. Although it is more expensive than my prior mercedes mechanic in Santa Monica, I do find I receive prompt and good service and once you continue going for awhile you become part of their repertoire of clients and are well-treated with good service. To date I have not had any problems with any of the services received and the car runs well. The ride to and from work is also a big help. Fees for service are much, much less than the dealer. read more

I am SO IMPRESSED with them! I have a 2003 Mercedes and the "VISIT WORKSHOP" light came on. I took it to a place my co-worker suggested because she felt they were inexpensive and good. I did but they couldn't find the root of the problem and said it was probably a malfunctioning light. My neighbor goes here so I took it to them and they solved the problem! John was so friendly, efficient, courteous. They were able to take care of my car that day (I did make an appointment). when I picked up my car it had been washed! I ran into a friend of mine who takes his Volvo here and thinks they are the best. I will go to them from now on. Right headlight had stopped working. Pacific BMW told me it was a broken wire in the assembly and the entire unit needed to be replaced: $2,000 new, $1,100 used. John and Steve diagnosed a broken connector and fixed it for $100. read more

The trouble with cars today is they are a mystery. You can no longer replace the spark plugs yourself or even know where to look for the spar plugs. Therefore you have to have a lot of faith in your mechanic and trust that they will take care of you. I first found Classic German Motors about 8 years ago when I was seeking a second opinion on a problem I was having with my Mercedes. The team here examined my car and confirmed the problem but came in with a cheaper estimate for parts and labor. Not only that, but they warned me that problems on older cars can be systemic and I should watch out for related possible problems. Some emerged and some didn't. The result is I trust these guys. They have never steered me wrong and their prices are always the best. I highly recommend them. read more

When I first bought my '82 Mercedes 300D from a nice older couple up near Monrovia I brought it to Classic German Motors to have them take a look at it. The guy quoted me a whole list of problems with the car, many of which turned out not to be true. He estimated it would all cost over $5,000 then in nearly the same breath told me to let him know first if I planned on selling it. Seriously? I tend to give people the benefit of the doubt, but that seemed pretty conniving to me. And of course for them to open the hood of my car, pretend to look at it, invent some "problems" for it and try to get me to sell it to them cost me $90. Love it. I have yet to find a decent place in the San Gabriel area to take the old Benz and so am unfortunately driving way the heck out to Inglewood to take it to my old mechanic, Solomon.
