What a welcome surprise -- I was meeting a friend in Palo Alto and realized I might as well kill two birds with one stone and get my nails done. Alas, easier said than done with Palo Alto's egregious nail prices. Is it possible to find a gel mani that is not $50? On a side street near Cal Ave, you can find Classy Salon Spa. Herein lies your solution. The salon is pretty small with 4 pedi chairs and a similar number of chairs for manis. The ladies there are super nice and chatty. If you get a pedi, they give you a really nice shoulder massage. Plus, if you check in on Yelp, you get a free paraffin wax mask. There is also a frequent buyer stamp card. What this spa lacks in frills and glitter it makes up for with their amazing nail technicians. Cheap $35 pedicures that last for almost 2 months! Tons of color options. They have several options for pedicures but I always opt for the number 6 which comes with a paraffin treatment. So relaxing! A 10 minute soak in paraffin leaves your feet extra smooth. This also comes with a short massage. The more expensive options come with a longer massage. Incredibly thorough nail service. Much more than I could ever do myself. You can choose round or square shape. Although they're missing a few amenities that perhaps luxury spas would have (for example new massage chairs), their technical skills more than make up for it!! read more

Nothing fancy in the eyebrow department but the outcome is WOW. She was pretty meticulous with the cleanup, even post-wax. Tweezed a few hairs out of reach of the strip and the shape looks amazing. I got a mani pedi here, and it was good. I made an appointment an hour before they closed just in case it was busy; it wasn't too busy but I'm still glad I made the appointment because the salon is not very big. The massage that comes with the mani would have been really nice, but mine was more of a tease because the girl massaged my shoulders but so lightly it didn't really do much. The ladies were very sweet and nice, and the price for the mani/pedi combo is pretty good too. I went here for a gel manicure with a Groupon that I purchased. I called and made a same day appointment which was no problem. The location has easy parking, the inside is nothing amazing. It is clean but there is nothing cozy or luxurious about it. My manicurist was very nice but there was a very difficult language barrier when communicating about the shape of my nails and other things you need to discuss during a manicure. She was very precise which I appreciate but now that I can see my nails, the shape of them is not consistent. The girl was very kind and friendly and got to work a mediately on my Flintstone feet She help me with my ingrown And then I had a special request of a French pedicure to be done, Now most girls Like a very thin white strip across the top and then light pink nail polish. Eyelash Extensions - Katie gave me some of the best eyelashes I've ever had. Beautiful, thin, long amazing lashes. I've had them for over 2 1/2 weeks and barely any have fallen out. You could tell she spent time before my appointment making sure everything was set up just for me. I felt like she took great care in making sure the type of lashes really looked amazing and fit my face well. The application was done intentionally but did not take too much time, I was comfortable laying in the private room. I would recommend eyelash extensions from Classy Salon Spa to anyone. I'm still getting compliments on them and it has been nearly 3 weeks without a fill! Mani & Pedi - I've had the pleasure of having a few of the amazing ladies help me with my manicure and pedicure. My nail specialist was named Jennifer and she was awesome! She was able to create the exact look that I wanted! I also had a bruised toe and she was able to give me a pedicure no problem! It was quiet- I was the first guest. Olivia was welcoming as was the other technician. One gave me a pedicure w/a little sugar scrub massage. The other gave me a manicure, including the paraffin treatment (bonus for checking in on Yelp). My hands are so soft! And my nails look great. They played classical music during my pampering- I preferred that to a noisy radio. I was there to relax and this place really delivered. There are only 2 things that needed attention. 1. Once my pedicure was finished, she removed the plastic cover from the tub. That really could have waited until my services were completed. 2. When she removed the paraffin, she used a cold cloth to wipe my hands. I really wish it had been hot. After redeeming my Groupon, I handed her a tip. Without looking at it, she smiled genuinely and said 'thank you'. I appreciated the sincerity. Fresh, bright and open space super close to Stanford University and the main drag through Palo Alto. Total for two gel manis and two pedis was $140!!! However, hot stone massage for legs and neck was AMAZING! She even used tiger balm on my shoulders since I work out everyday was tense. I've never used the word "despise" in a review until now. I absolutely despise this place. I was a walk-in since Jolie was crowded on a Saturday morning. There was a brief minute of confusion when no one here spoke English well. We straightened that out and I was seated promptly. My pedicure started first and was done by an older woman. People started coming in so she kept leaving in between my pedicure. My manicure was only half way done when I was asked to wait since there was an appointment mix up. I was in no hurry so I said it was fine. One customer came and went. Two customers came and went. Three customers came and went. And then friends and family stopped by. A random girl got assigned to doing my nails and she kept complaining the polish was too thick so the woman doing my hands from before stepped over and laughed while saying "see, that's what happens when you're not certified. SOMEONE UNCERTIFIED WAS ASSIGNED TO DO MY NAILS. Anywho, the terrible experience over, I just wanted to leave after being there for nearly 3 hours. Immediately the "special" nail polish she recommended I pay extra for chipped while I was getting in my car. Both of my thumbnails also broke in a few hours which reminded me she had taken a nail file and went ham on the tops of my nails. I have never been more miserable. My nails are still suffering from the consequences. read more

There are plenty of other great nail salons in this area. No need to put yourself through this experience. 1) Lady who did my manicure was so rough she literally cut me and I started bleeding. During the process, you would think she would be aware that she cut me (esp since I informed her and said "ouch!") however she didn't seem phased at all and continued through the process and it hurt like hell. 2) The gel polish she started my right hand with was thick and old and "bubbly." You would think that as soon as she opened the bottle she would realize it's a bad bottle and she should get a new one or tell me to pick something else. She waited until my whole right hand was finished before she asked me to pick a different color. (Mind you, I'm on my lunch break and specifically told her I only had one hour). She had to remove all polish from my right hand and start ALL OVER AGAIN! 3) The finish product is horrible. As I sit here on my computer, I do not dare look down at my fingers because of a horrible job this lady did. Polish is all over my cuticles, super messy and my finger is STILL bleeding. 4) Avalon's nail polish colors are super outdated and just overall bad quality. 5) Shitty quality of service. The lady who did my nails was continuously reaching over me grabbing stuff, breathing super loud and burping. It was just gross. I would give this place zero stars but I'm giving it ONE star because... 1) It's not possible to give zero stars 2) I did like the older lady who did my toes. Although the color she recommended was terrible (I asked for white, she put silver on my toes), she was very sweet and accommodating. read more

Normally I would never come to a salon without looking at reviews first but in this case, a friend recommended we go together. I have a couple of spots I frequent for manicures in the area and I would highly recommend other places before this one. First of all, they charge a $7 gel removal fee even though I only had gels left on 4 fingers (and residue on a 5th). Additionally the outcome of the nails was just not good. That in itself was 2 or 3 stars out of 5. The polish seemed old and wasn't smoothly applying to the nail. The one good part- they are nice. But you can definitely get a better quality manicure elsewhere. read more

I've never been one to commit to any one thing in life, and nail salons are no exception. You've got to be some kind of extraordinary to get me to come back every two weeks to your salon and your salon only. Avalon, however, has changed me as a human being. I don't have a single bad thing to say about this salon, so let me start going down my list of pluses. Service: Critical at a nail salon because that is one of of two things (other obviously being how good my nails look at the end) that will either make me stay or make me walk out the door. Kim is my girl, she's the sweetest lil thing, always asks me how I'm doing and remembers every little detail of our convos as she'll bring it up the next time I see her. She always makes it a point to ask why I haven't found a boyfriend in a matter of two weeks, every single visit, which I think is hilarious because I only wish my life worked like that. Now, obviously, nails: Never have I ever seen such a wide selection in nail color, and that alone made me realize this was no ordinary nail salon. Although it takes me several minutes to pick a color (and also change my mind at least 2 times before making a decision), it makes me so incredibly happy that they have such an array of colors, and I mean *actually* have them and not be "out of stock" of every color that I want. Results are also A+, nails are in pristine condition for 2+ weeks. Not a single complaint on that front. One last thing, it's really nice how understanding and accommodating they are with time constraints. I've never come in a rush but I've seen women who were like "I have to reach the train in 45 minutes and I have to get this, this and this done" and like 3 women hop on board and get everything taken care of, no questions asked.
