We love it at Claudia's! We've been bringing our doggie who's a 4yr old beagle to the San Leandro and Castro valley location since he was a puppy!! I'll be cross posting this review on their san leandro location too. our beagle used to get so nervous going to the groomers but he's had no issues with having his grooming appointments with Claudia. We usually call ahead of time to see if drop off is okay, usually it is fine and they can take him right away. We usually take him for a routine grooming session and also when he gets into some naughty business and wants to rub himself in the grass in who knows what but it leaves him smelling very stinky!! No worries tho cuz Claudia gets him smelling so clean and brand new. We usually book a bath, ears, teeth cleaning, nails, trim excessive paw hair. Beagles are prone to ear issues so we always include the ears!! cost is affordable but honestly, finding the perfect place is PRICELESS to us. Our dog seems comfortable being here, and maybe secretly enjoys it because he doesn't get nervous during drop offs anymore LOL We love our doggo so much and love that we found a dog groomer who is reliable, trustworthy, honest, and so friendly to us and Sage our dog. My experience has been a hit or miss. Sometimes my dog comes out looking great and sometimes he comes out with uneven hair lol. I have asked for teddy bear haircut and his head has been left square like. Some areas in his body were missed at times and the directions weren't always followed. 1 time he had a great haircut and the other times it has varied from ok to bad. I have asked for the owner to do the haircut herself but his haircuts always look so different so I'm assuming she's not always cutting his hair. He's been there about 5 times. Idk how his baths were given either because I feel like the past two times he got an ear infection after his haircut. I have asked for them to protect his ears too. I can't say it was 100% after his bath but it just seemed like it was too much of a coincidence- he would start scratching and it would escalate to an ear infection. read more

I've been going there for years and everyone there is so nice. My dog get a bath and hair cut. I love how great they make him look.

Scheduled a cut/grind nail appointment for my fur baby. Parking is shared amongst the other businesses along the tiny strip. Street parking can easily be found. The business is near Creekside Middle School and a Hardware store. The shop is cozy and quaint. There were two employees at the front and a few in the back grooming and bathing clients' fur babies. Payment can be taken via card or cash. Nails for a small dog $20 (Dremmel is $5) + tip = I paid around $25. Pricier than if you were going to add on a nail grind at PetSmart, I think I used to pay $10 or $15? I decided to wait in the waiting area until they were done which did not take that long... maybe 10-15 minutes max? My dog had a little accident prior to being taken into the back but the staff was very accommodating and rest assured these thing happen from time to time - nothing to be embarrassed about. Staff was a young group, but all were very professional and nice to do business with. Call to book an appointment or check walk-in availabilities same day. He's a 4 month old puppy and I had originally taken him to Petsmart for a haircut and they couldn't do it because they said he moved too much and was too anxious. Claudia has the magic touch because they were able to give him a cut with no problem-- she's experienced and has a way with dogs that is calming and works with them. Also, Teresa her receptionist is amazing and communicated promptly and clearly with me via text so I knew what to expect and about available openings. I had to calm down before I sent this.. I dropped off my puppy Kenzy this afternoon and what I got back was heartbreaking.. No where did I say I wanted a full shaved or cut. I specifically asked for a trim around the eyes and was told Yorkies tend to have long hair and I agreed. I understand that dogs move, squirm and make it hard to cut and shave which is why I'm willing to look the other way on how uneven she is, but I am PISSED that her eyelashes have been wacked off. They were super long and pretty. You have traumatized me. I know understand why you have people pay before releasing there pets, cause I wouldn't have paid the $70 that was charged to me just for a nail trim, and hair trim.(eyes) and her butt/back area. It's surprising to see this place still in business. Years ago I brought my first dog here and because of their lack of attention and care her tail got caught in a fan on their watch. My poor dog for days wouldn't move and was so sad. Turns out she broke her tail and had to get it surgically removed. Because of this I am now terrified of bringing my new dog to a new place. Within the last 2 days, I have taken 2 of my dogs here for a full bath, and haircut. THIS PLACE IS AMAZING. They are so nice and welcoming and so gentle to your pets! Before you even drop them off, they make sure they know exactly what you want done to your dog! The whole team is absolutely amazing. They all work together to do the best job for your babies! Claudia and her team are fantastic! I've been taking my German Shepard/Husky and Maltipoo here for the past 5 years she has done an amazing job on both of them everytime. My maltipoo hates the groomers and has to use a muzzle there, but she still manages to cut him nice and even. It's easy to schedule over phone or text and she's very quick at responding. We took our 26 pound one year old poodle mix to Claudia for a haircut. When we picked him up he was bleeding from a two inch curved laceration on his inner thigh. Instead of taking responsibility for an injury that clearly occurred during the clipping, Claudia had the nerve to feign ignorance regarding the source of the wound and suggest that he arrived already injured. (The latter suggestion is not possible because I brushed the dog just before I delivered him in order to remove any matted hair that would make grooming more difficult, and he was dropped off uninjured.) The injury was so severe I had to cone my dog for three days to prevent him from licking the wound while it healed. Moreover, he displayed signs of fearfulness and emotional trauma that he has never shown after a visit to a groomer. I suspect that more than the physical injury occurred during the grooming session I can understand how an injury might occur during grooming. I cannot understand the dishonesty of not taking responsibility for the injury. Leaving your pet for grooming requires trust in the skill and integrity of the provider. A groomer who injures a pet and then lies cannot be trusted to care for a beloved pet. I strongly suggest you find a pet groomer who is more skilled and more trustworthy than Claudia's. read more

DO NOT HAVE YOUR DOG DONE AT CLAUDIA'S I've taken all our dogs to Claudia's for over three years. It was only the second time for our new pup. The receptionist wrote down everything I wanted done on a 3X5 card. It stated, bath, nails cut, hair cut. Leave an inch of hair on her. NO Poodle Face. Want Teddy Bear Face. The same thing I asked for last time. Owner Claudia worked on her both times. First time was fine. See before and after this resent cut. Photos below. Claudia shaved most of her hair completing off. And this is definitely a puddle face. Yuk! It's like she took what I asked for and did the opposite. Needless to say, I was shocked when I saw her and very upset. Claudia didn't bring her out the receptionist did, so I didn't talk to her at the shop. Claudia called me while I was driving home. She asked me why I was upset, Seriously! I told her she didn't do what I asked for. She tried to tell me my dog was all matted. I told her that was a lie. Before I brought her in, I put my fingers though my dogs hair to make sure her hair was not matted. Didnt find one not. Claudia should of called me to ask for my permission, if I wanted it shaved. IF IT WAS MATTED. Which it was not see first photo Claudia then asked what was wrong with me today. AGAIN SERIOUSLY! She acting like there was no problem and I must of been having a bad day. I know they dropped my dog off the grooming table (and would not admit it) because his back was majorly injured when he got home . He literally couldn't walk, was in a lot of pain and it took him many months to recover. I have also seen the person who baths the dogs be abusive and very rough when handling them. I've taken my dog to Claudia's 3 times, and each time I've been a very happy customer. When I first got Max I took him to the petsmart grooming salon a few times. Each time he would come out looking nothing like I had requested. I can handle a bad haircut on my dog, but what I particularly hated about petsmart was that there was a certain groomer who always mistreated my dog, yelled at him, yanked him, and then would complain to me about how bad he was. Even when I requested a different groomer, I always ended upt with this girl who obviously does not enjoy her job. I'm sure this explains why every time I dropped Max off at the Petsmart Groomer he would start shaking. After witnessing how petsmart treated my puppy I was determined to find a place that Max and I felt more comfortable with. So after doing lots of research I decided to take a chance and take him to Claudia's. The yelp reviews sold me, and when I called and found out the price I was even more impressed and I made an appointment right away. When I brought him in I was happy to see that even though the dogs are kept in crates, the crates are visible from the lobby, the bathing area was also visible, so I knew that they had nothing to hide. Claudia was very patient with me as I explained exactly how I wanted my dog's hair to be cut. She even asked questions about specific areas that I didn't even think about. She asked if I had a picture and I showed her one on my phone. She then told me they would call me when he was ready, but to expect approximately 4 hours (the cut I asked for was pretty time consuming as she would have to cut his entire body hair with scisors instead of clippers). So off I went, ran some errands and about 4 hours and 10 minutes later I received a phone call saying Max was ready. Of course, being the crazy person I am, I was already on my way since I was told to expect 4 hours. When I picked him up I was soooo shocked to see how handsome Max looked. The cut was EXACTLY what I had asked for. It was as if she saw the image in my head. It was perfect!!!! But the most important thing was that Max looked comfortable and happy, I could tell he enjoyed the experience. Claudia told me that he did really well and acted like "a big boy" (he was 8 months at the time). And to my relief, Max never shakes when I drop him off at Claudia's, which makes the experience a lot less stressful for me. I'm happy to say I found my new groomer. Since that appointment I've already gone back twice, and will continue to go once a month since her prices are so affordable. I've even referred my friends there because I am confident that Claudia will do a great job at an excellent price. Thanks Claudia!!! Max and I are definitely fans :) read more

So the first time I went there they followed my instructions of what I wanted but I had my daughter pick my pup up from the shop and she came home with someone else's collar. I clled And told them to come pick it up since I literally live 5 minutes away. She told me she couldn't come til 8pm. I was going to be out at that time so I had to drive back to return it. They didn't seem very grateful but whatever. The second appointment I had I told the person at the front desk (who looked like she was about 15 years old) that I just wanted a bath, and clean her face up amd specifically told her not to cut her body. The only other person there was a guy washing another so who looked like he was about 17. No adults. I figured she made a run and would be right back. I told the girl to have her call me if she has any questions. So I got no phone call from her. I go to pick up my beautiful Yorkie and they had shaved her entire body!!!! I was livid. I was just beside myself. She did apologize but did not seem to be to empathetic. What I couldn't believe is that she expected me to pay for a service that I didn't even want ($65). The she said it would only be $35 for the service I actually requested as if she was doing me a favor. She shaved my dogs hair that I was trying to grow!!!! I told her this is what happens when you have children running your business! She told me the girl is not a child, she is 15. Lol, I just couldn't believe she said that. I'm not sure when 15 year olds are no longer considered children, but adults. I just took my dog and told her I'm not giving her shit!!!! Worst experience ever. Hopefully she learned a lesson from this!!!! I will NEVER go back. First someone else's collar and then you do exactly what I asked you not to!!! What the hell is going on in there? DO NOT LEAVE YOUR PET HERE. They stuck my 80 pound shepherd in a tiny cage where he can't stand up or turn around. I can hear the poor thing whimpering as soon as I walked in. It was so loud that it went above the carpet dryer they had pointing at him to dry him. The owners weren't apologetic at all and begrudgingly gave him a complimentary wash while still charging my other dog the full price. It's too bad i was too concerned for my dog and had them take him out immediately before i can snap a pic of his condition. 3/4/17 - I used to take my two Aussies there but now am not liking the negative reviews I'm reading and the actual photos I'm seeing. Claudia opened another shop in San Leandro and it appears she is not always in the CV shop now to supervise the groomers. I trust Claudia as she does a great job....but won't be going to the CV shop unless Claudia is the groomer or will be there to supervise. Upon walking into the store, it wasn't entirely clean with flocks of fur flying around like tumbleweed in the desert. Now, this is the second groomer that has stated they knew how to groom my dog according to breed standards. Mmmmmmno! That wasn't the case. I didn't want to be rude and thoroughly inspect my dog while I was there, so I just put good faith in their work and went on my way. When I got home, the critique of all the flaws began between my housemate and I: 1. The neck wasn't clippered properly. There were a lot of areas that were uneven. 2. The skirt was cut too short and not straight. 3. The hair around the feet were too short and gave my poor pooch poodle feet 4. Eyebrows were severely messed up. 5. Ears weren't properly done either The only good thing I can say is that my dog did smell nice for a few days. No idea what they used, but hopefully it's not sort of harsh perfume. I can safely say that I'll never bring my dog there again. read more

First and last time to this place. The moment I walked through the door with my 2 boys I realized it was a mistake. I should have followed my instinct to turn around and leave. First off, I would like to make it clear that the employees were very sweet and polite and customer service was good. My review is directed towards the owner for allowing such a place to exist. The place was dirty with fur, dander, and dust EVERYWHERE. I tried to hold my breath when i was in the facility as fur and dust or what ever airborne yucky stuff was floating into my eyes, nose, mouth... the air was thick and smelled horrible. I had to check the store banner again to make sure I didn't accidentally walk into an animal shelter. If you have allergies be cautious because when i walked out my son and I were sneezing all the way home. The environment was a bit chaotic. Dogs barking and yelping, a groomer yelling at the dog she was grooming to calm down. (now, I'm no professional but yelling at a nervous dog just doesn't seem like the ideal thing to do to calm it down) The price was low 45$ per dog and the cuts were average looking. It took over 5.5 hours to groom my 2 tiny dogs. Not sure if they were caged most of the time but the idea of them stuck in a cage with no food and water on a warm day makes me really sad and guilty that I put my boys through that. I'm still kicking myself now for taking my dogs there. I've been using SpaGo mobile pet grooming for years and now that Miki no longer is mobile and has settled in Oakland I've been searching for a new groomer and the search has been difficult to say the least. I guess when I had someone as great as Miki who drove up to my doorstep (so my boys never had to wait in a cage for hours), it's even harder to find a groomer that even compares. I am appalled with what they did to my dog. Absolutely ridiculous! I've been grooming him myself for years, but I went out on a limb and decided to take him to a professional groomer and apparently they switched him out with a new, fluffier, ridiculously cute dog with the same markings as him! Seriously though, I haven't cut his hair all winter because he only has hair on about half of his body due to a thyroid condition and I was afraid he would get cold. He was born blind in one eye and looks a lot like Steve Buschemi's Crazy Eyes. We just came to terms with the fact that he would only be beautiful on the inside and Claudia's came and changed all of that. Keep up the good work girls... I have been going to Claudia for 10 years. I think that says it all. I might add I moved to Lafayette and I make the trek to Castro Valley so Claudia can groom Favio. There is no other groomer who compares to her. If Claudia is not available one of the other ladies will groom Favio and they have the highest of quality and professionalism in the grooming arena.
