Been coming here for a few years but had to revise my review. It has fallen downhill in the last year and the front end manager is positively rude and there is an air and culture of indifference. Last few times I have gone in the staff are short, bad tempered, and just plain grumpy, and I had to wait nearly 30 minutes for a half dozen oysters. They no longer cultivate delicate deep cupped oysters, with names like Blue Point, and Silver Point, and when you ask what they have (hoping for their signature Blue Points) all they simply say is "all we have is Pacifics" and when you press them for more details, they become irritated. In addition to this, their quality has gone down with flabby, spawny, and larger oysters which are becoming increasingly difficult to stomach. These folks don't cater to Oyster aficionados, and I recommend going to Umpqua triangle down the street in Winchester bay or online (from Florence) at oystergrower (.com) read more

Let me start by saying I fully admit I'm a food snob- have been blessed with having fine cuisine everywhere - on a side note there is nothing like a good dive bar I was born and raised in Coos Bay/North Bend -for those of you not familiar with the area - beautiful scenery and a rare occurrence of good food. My son and daughter in law just celebrated their 20th anniversary and I was visiting from Washington. What to do for them -they know all the restaurants and rarely eat out because they are tired of the food rolling from the Cisco truck -down the ramp-Into the microwave (a couple of exceptions in the restaurant category) I took a bold leap of faith and said how about Clausen Oysters? My son was kind of disappointed but admitted he had not been there- he said they only have plastic picnic tables but agreed. We arrived about a half an hour before closing time. We were greeted with a very friendly welcome and it only got better from there. If you have read this far you are probably thinking get to the point - unbelievable! I hate oysters - ok - I've said it - I hate oysters - but my son and daughter in law love them. The menu allows for those of us who hate oysters to have a fabulous selection of other food. The most amazing fish tacos I've ever had -this is true - had the rockfish tacos - everything from awesome taco shells to homemade - yes -not from a giant plastic jar- salsa -made from all kinds of peppers and other secret ingredients I also had to try the Caesar wedge with shrimp - are you kidding me - lots of shrimp - fresh crisp lettuce and a homemade dressing that I totally need the recipe for A side of the deep fried oysters - which my son claimed were awesome - my son thinks most food in restaurants suck - yes he has his mommy's palate - they call it extra taste buds - some call it snobbery but the best chefs also have extra taste buds (it's true - look it up) He and his wife went crazy over the oyster chowder. Let us not forget the tuna poke - what- am I in Hawaii? So fresh and seasoned deliciously -an amazing amount of beautiful Ruby red tuna and fresh seaweed salad topping Now the word is out - incredible high end food on the bay with plastic picnic tables and a five star meal Bring a jacket for those of you that aren't use to the coast - we had a lovely evening that allowed us to be jacketless but it is the coast so be prepared and enjoy this basically unknown rare Diamond find restaurant of quality food. Wow - mom hit a home run - I live in Washington and this beauty is only ten minutes from them and was undiscovered- not for long -before we left my daughter in law was sharing this gem with her manager so now the word is out and even though I hate oysters this will be my go to stop when I'm in town. read more

My go to every day for my Oyster fix for the few months of the year that we are here. I gave them my winning private recipe for Aussie style Oysters Kilpatrick and they said they would give it a go so watch this space. As an Australian, I know it's going to be a winner. As it is already, their oysters are the best in America and I've travelled the globe searching for the freshest Oysters. The moon rocks oysters on the half shell were the best in my life! (and I live by the ocean and eat alot of seafood) Mary the cook was super friendly and Byron the manager's hospitality was impeccable and his wine pairing suggestions were spot on. These are by far the best oysters in Coos Bay! A bit more expensive, but fresh and clean and just the right size for eating raw with a bit of lemon, horseradish and cocktail sauce. I'm SO HAPPY we decided to stop at Clausen Oysters for lunch on our way through town! The oyster po' boy was delicious - the tomato and lettuce tasted like they just came out of a garden, the bread was 10/10, and the oysters were HUGE and fried perfectly! I rarely write yelp reviews, but when I tried the coleslaw I knew I had to. I'm not usually a coleslaw fan but this stuff was so tasty, and it really shows how much thought they put into the entire meal. Okay so this is an oyster farm which is about the coolest thing ever to experience. It's rustic in that way so you need to understand that. You order at the counter. The oysters are giant! The mignonette is a thing of beauty. Poke needs to be less sweet but otherwise was fresh and delicious. Staff was really overwhelmed but not their fault and they were extremely nice humans. We took a little side trip off the highway to Coos Bay after seeing their road sign. They sell oysters by the pound, and shucked a few for Mr. B to taste. He said he has never tasted any fresher, sweeter, with the taste of the sea. You can buy them there, shucked or not, but you must find someone else to cook them. They are strictly a distributor. Was on the hunt for the freshest oysters, found this little place at a oyster wholesaler. Pretty cool place to see them. Working with tons of oysters fresh off the boat. Great prices if you're shucking them yourself, $25 for a dozen if you want them on the half shell, which is what we did. Honestly wasn't too impressed; both by the flavor (which was in no way the restaurant's fault because they were definitely fresh) and the presentation of the oysters. They oysters are pretty small, though they had much larger sizes offered, just not on the half shell. The shells were really dirty and were so broken up along the edges there was no way "slurp" your oyster to get all that delicious oyster liquor without getting a mouthful of broken shell and grit in your mouth. I appreciate that this happens from time to time with oysters on the half shell but this was just too much to really enjoy them. I think a good shell scrubbing and more care in prepping them would have gone a long way. Usual presentation was really great. The oyster chowder was really nice made fresh with lots of diced potatoes, colored sweet peppers and plump whole oysters in a creamy broth. Great flavor. Also tried the stuffed and broiled oysters, those were really great. Loads of melted butter and herbs. Decent place, glad we stopped by. read more
