Good food & service. The handled our large bike group well (we did call ahead). We were all thirsty & hungry after our hilly riding in nearby Lake Rebecca Regional Park & we were served quickly given our group size! Lots of parking out in front! The outdoor patio beckoned but we will maybe try that next time! The Walleye Strips were coated in flat commercial breading but they were still good! Burgers, wraps, salads were good too! Visited Wednesday, the meal was disappointing. I feel the food was very bland and overpriced for what we got, portions were small for the cost. The fries were delicious. Had our waitress even asked how the food was, we would have shared our thoughts. My teenage kid didn't care for the cheeseburger, said it had no flavor. We had a philly cheese steak sandwich too, that was chopped steak on a bread roll, the meat was gray and unappealing. Usually a cheese steak is finely shaved beef,not huge chunks. Enjoyed my burger and onion rings. Seemed like a nice space. First time there so I can't compare how much better it is since it reopened under new owners. I'll be back. I was really excited when I saw the pool tables. I've been looking for more places to play in the area. But $2 a game?! I'm surprised at the negative reviews, we have stopped here 2 times now and been pleased with service and food each time! In fact, our service was amazing both times. I feel like the menu is good but almost too much! I haven't found the thing on the menu that I'll run back just for but I'm confident I'll find it as I give this place more of my business. My only fear is that it won't last due to lack of business, both times we were there are pretty peak times, it was completely dead. Also, most of the games were out of order too- that was too bad as it was one of the reasons we took our boys there for dinner. We'll be back though! Best of luck to this place! read more

I was really impressed with this place on multiple levels. Let's break it down in this episode of: Where to Dine in Rockford, Minnesota. First, heads up - if you have a party of 8 or more, do them a solid and make a reservation. We showed up with 9 and the accommodated us because they could, but they did ask that we give them a little more time in the future. Sure, Clays, no problem. The place is pretty big. The bar space is decent and there are TV's everywhere. I'd love it if they got into showing UFC fights at this place, despite the more family-centric atmosphere. Your kids should be in bed by the time the fights start anyway. Obviously everything is new, including their system (which is pretty high-tech, BTW) so give them a month or so to work out the kinks. That's to be expected. That said, our service was great and the food came out quickly. Speaking of the food - we had a pretty diverse palate at our table. A couple pizzas were ordered and were really delicious with the NY style crust. I had been eyeballing the Rockford Rocket burger online for weeks ahead of this visit, so I knew what I was going to cram in my cramhole. It's a burger with pepper jack cheese, thinly sliced ham, pineapple, and cheese curds... all with an incredible bourbon sauce on it. And a pretzel bun. I mean, seriously, this thing was straight out of heaven for sure. Check out their menu - it's diverse - I want to honestly try about 90% of the things on there. But how am I going to go away from the Rockford Rocket?! Life is full of cruel, unfair decisions to be mad. The kids were pretty entertained with skeeball and the Ducky Dive claw game. We now have more little rubber ducks than anyone on the planet. Or so I assume. I didn't get a chance to step up to the virtual shotgun-wielding clay shooting game, but it looked really fun. All in all, I want to strongly recommend this place to anyone. I now have the goal of being such a regular at Clays that I'm on a first name basis with all employees. read more

I brought guests there Sat 10/23 for dinner. The wait person was sloppily dressed in jeans hanging way down, old gray sweatshirt and a greasy ponytail, dragging their feet. They were not friendly at all. We had to find our own silverware.. Food was mediocre, wild rice soup was like mashed potatoes. We sat there for over 10 minutes waiting for them to come around to clear dishes and bring the check. They were too busy standing at the end of the bar next to a similarly dressed person playing pulltabs. I suspect our wait staff was playing too. I motioned to another wait person, they went up to ours and said something. Ours went the long way around pass the other patrons they were to be serving to get to us. We asked for the bill, said one was ok we'd figure it out. Wait person pulled out hand computer and told us your bill is $74 and some change! I just sighed and asked can't we have an itemized receipt? They went behind the bar came back and slammed it down on the table. I tried to call a tall skinny wait staff over who seemed to be running the place they waved me off as too busy and went into the kitchen. I proceeded to hand the check and cash to the bartender who seemed to be the only one watching us, knowing we were upset. I have been here 2 other times, once upon opening and it sucked that time too. Then about a month ago my husband and I ate there, food and service was ok so figured we would start eating there now. NEVER will I step in your restaurant again. I would guess you are open because it is the only bar left in Rockford. read more

I've been here 3 times now. 1st time I had a terrible experience. We ordered a pizza and waited 10 minutes before someone told us they were out of dough. So we got burgers instead. 25 mins later we got our burgers. Our waiter was rude and upset because I told her my burger was too red and my fries are cold. so she took it back to cook longer. she gave an attitude the rest of the night. She filled up our drinks without asking and without telling us root beer refills are not free. Would I have known, I would asked for water considering it was $5 each. 2nd time my husband and I came for pizza and I was not disappointed at all. The pizza was amazing! Our waitress was so nice. We waited 25 minutes and were never greeted. Even walked up to ask the waitress for menus and she never came over. Multiple waitresses looked and walked by our table with no greeting. We were greeted as we were leaving. We informed them no one had came over at all and they said it was their first busy night. Totally get that but letting a table sit for thirty minutes isn't just a busy first night. It's bad service and poor management. Another table was also leaving at the same time because they had waited thirty minutes and their drinks still weren't there. New owner should've been there to help manage seating tables and to help staff/greet customers to help establish themselves in the community and problem solve. read more

You have to looking for this place as it is in a strip center that is a LONG way off the main road. Neat theme with the shooting clays and local team decor. LARGE seating capacity which makes it feel pretty empty with the standard crowd. Great cheese curds and big selection on the menu with a full service bar read more

Absolutely shocked at how bad the Pizza was, only to be topped by pathetic customer service! My wife an I order a buffalo chicken pizza with extra sauce, cheese and we asked that they leave it in a little longer to brown the cheese. NO Sauce at all, undercooked and then the bartender gives my wife a bunch of attitude when picking it up. He tells her were not "Norms", then the pizza isn't done so it has to go back in. The bartender finally comes out with a pizza takes the $50 I gave my wife and give her $15 back; that's a $35 pizza that was what seems like intentionally screwed up. So when my wife calls, the manager Christina gives her some crap about I can't give you a refund because you paid cash; I could go on however I am so disgusted I can't. Stopped in for the first time and ordered the wings with 5 sauces and French onion burger and fries. The wings were crispy and the sauces and especially the blue cheese were great. The burger cooked to my temp (mid rare) was one of the best burgers I've ever had. I was pretty shocked how good it was considering it's a new restaurant where they're usually working out the kinks. The fries were super crispy with almost a light batter on them. Everyone at the table loved their burgers as well. Service was good and I could see the owner checking in with guests which is nice to see for a change. Definitely returning to explore the menu. read more

This is a lively new spot that is definitely family centric. There are plenty of electronic games to keep a variety of ages entertained. We had the shrimp skewers appetizer- perfectly cooked and tender with a sweet and spicy glaze This was followed by chicken Alfredo and the Clays melt sandwich which my husband declared worth a repeat visit. It's an Italian sausage patty with light coat of marinara, mozzarella, pepper rings for zing and pepperoni. August 9th, 2019 Apologies for the delayed review but it took a couple of weeks and several counseling sessions to recover from the PTSD to I developed as result of my visit to Clay's. I have to say that the only upside to my visit was the delightful young lady that I brought with me and the fact that we left before ordering and went to eat elsewhere. Upon arriving we were met with a nearly empty restaurant, a bit concerning but we risked it, at 8:30 on a Friday evening August 9th, we were greeted by a "Please Wait to Be Seated" sign and not much else. We did as instructed and waited patiently for what seemed like 10 minutes but was probably only 2 or 3. There is no need to exaggerate as a 2 or 3 minute wait for anyone feels long. The bartender looked right at us and walked right by, the only waiter in the restaurant doing the same was really screaming out to us to run, but it was late, and we were hungry, so we powered through the clear lack of giving a crap for my partners time or mine. Kudos to the pull tab gal as she was the only one who worked there that made eye contact and looked uncomfortable regarding the amount of time, we spent standing waiting to be acknowledged. Although, she probably works for the Lions club or whoever they are fundraising, so she wasn't able to rescue us. (Note to Clay's management. Figure out who she was and make her manager. She has a clue.) When the gentleman, term used in the loosest possible form, finally acknowledged our presence we were told rather rudely that we could seat ourselves wherever we pleased. My date politely mentioned that we were waiting to be seated as instructed by his sign we were even more rudely told that we could seat ourselves. We did as instructed, and picked a high top table near the only friendly face working there, the pull-tab gal, and were promptly asked if we would move to another table because the one we chose needed to be wiped down. I declined the request because I had followed instructions and sat where I wanted. If he had a preference he could have chose to seat us as the sign said. Once he mustered the energy to grab a wash cloth and a towel to wipe down the table, fairness in savagery, he did it promptly but grudgingly, we ordered drinks. My partner a water with lemon, and my biggest mistake of the night, an iced tea. I could go on about the awkward conversations about what he best things on the menu are, apparently it is the fajitas or pretty much everything else on the menu according to him. We were also informed that we were blessed with the fact that the executive chef was working that evening. We asked for some additional time to decide on our orders and were left to contemplate our fate. As we sat there during an uncomfortable break in our conversation, we looked at each other and agreed on one thing: WE WERE AFRAID TO ORDER. I have never in my 50 years on the planet been AFRAID TO ORDER. At this point we decided to bail as quickly as possible. I painfully left a $5 bill on the table that would more than compensate them for the ill-advised iced tea, assure no additional interaction with the server would be necessary and made a break for the door. The service and the food at Norm's Wayside up the road were exceptional. read more

I absolutely love coming to Clays. The food is awesome. They make most everything from scratch. You have to try the boneless wings. The creamy Caesar boneless wings are the perfect balance of heat and creamy goodness. The manager, Leann, always makes us feel like family. We have been there twice now. The first time was on a busy Friday evening before a concert. Wife had a salad and I had the Shrimp Po Boy. My po boy was very good, the shrimp being very flavorful. Her salad looked very good. We went today, a Thursday, not very busy and this time, I had the chicken parm and she had a burger, ordered medium. Burger was very bloody, bun soaked through and I had one bite, - it lacked flavor/seasoning. My parm...not sure why the sauce was spiced up, and the chicken was kind of dry and definitely chewy. Very disappointed tonight. Service was good both times. Not sure if a different cook was on or what but we left disappointed. read more

Brand new place so we had to check it out. Staff was very attentive and had a nice conversation with the manager. He couldn't have been nicer and wanted to hear how we liked the food and service. Both were excellent. We had the house rub wings and a pizza. Enjoyed both very much. Many around us were eating burgers and they looked very good, will try one of those on our next visit. Tap beer list was good too, not that of a brew pub but enough variety to keep everyone happy. We will go back soon, glad Rockford area has a new good spot to gather. read more

REVIEW OF CLAYS RESTAURANT: Friday night August 9th, 8:30pm. After a long work week, we just wanted find a simple meal of good-food, with kind service, and perhaps find a new local "go-to" spot. Hoping to enjoy some games after dinner was a potential positive feature of this choice as well. The 2 of us walked in to a near empty facility, only a few tables in process of wrapping up. The staff consisted of a bar-tender, a woman selling scratch-offs, and the wandering waiter. Obeying the entry sign "Please wait to be seated", we stood, and stood, and stood. Although making eye contact with patrons, and staff, we did not receive a single acknowledgement, even though the waiter walked by us between tables & kitchen twice. Finally, we were deemed to be served. The waiter walked over without a hello or apology for lack of earlier acknowledgement & stated: "You can just sit anywhere". To which we responded: "Oh, we didn't do that because of your sign." He rudely replied: "As I said...You can just sit anywhere." Not getting the greatest vibe, and ignoring every instinct to turn & run, we decided to pursue the adventure, hoping things would go uphill from here. We picked a high top near the bar. The waiter came over, after enjoying a long conversation with the only other table (friends of his?) next to us and just said: "You picked the only dirty table, can you move?" With less concealed irritation, Mark said: "Actually, you said pick any table, so we picked this one, perhaps you can just clean it." He brought over a rag, and handed the silverware to Mark (the patron) to hold while he wiped off the table. Upon completion of that task, the wrapped utensils were grabbed out of his hands put them on the table. Exchanging an "oh shit" glance, we ordered a water and 1 Iced Tea and set about to review the lengthy menu. We were told that the "Executive Chef" was there tonight. Excited we asked what the recommended items were then and were told: "Chicken Wraps or fajitas" Again, hoping for the best, and deciding to perhaps discover this was an unusual night, I engaged the waiter in conversation when he came back to see if we were ready to order. I asked (1) how long this fairly new Bar/restaurant had been here: "about 8 months" (2) if it was typically this slow on a Friday night: "it varies, but yes" (3) how long he had worked there: "4-5 months" (4) what time they typically close: "whenever we want" (no schedule of hours, typical times) After agreeing that we were afraid to order, fearing the food experience was going to be no better than the front staff and no longer wanting to experience the unprofessional fight for expected etiquette, we looked for drink prices on the menu to leave the appropriate amount to cover the iced tea. Finding none, a $5.00 was left on the table. While walking out, we told the waiter we changed our minds and left that amount on the table. We were not given a Thank You, questioned as to Why, or offered a Good Night. It now being about 30 minutes later, irritated, shocked and starving, we drove straight down the road to Norm's Wayside, a packed bar/restaurant where we were warmly greeted by friendly staff, with clear signage, prompt service, a simple menu of good food and ended up wrapping up the long week on a positive note. read more

Went there one time and will not go back. My $25 sliver of salmon was raw. Rather than comp drinks or give anything for free I was fortunate enough to wait another 15 minutes for a $10 chicken sandwich that was rubbery as all get out. Sides were cold, happy hour was expensive. I give this place 4 years tops from the time the doors opened to the the time some poor ignorant soul buys it, or it "burns down" like the sushi restaurant in Albertville did. The star of this new place is the extraordinarily good service; you could tell they're locals wanting to take care of customers. This was our first time at Clays. We were not impressed. We do not recommend the all-you-can eat fish special. The first plate came within five minutes. The fish were dripping in oil. Had to strip the breading off. We told the waitress but no response. Still hungry so tried again. Waitress said she would tell the cook to fry them more well done. That was not the problem, though. The oil was not hot enough. Came still very greasy and fish inside were mushy. Told our waitress. Manager stopped by our table and said she would take one dinner off. That's all well and good but they should know how to fry anything at a bar/restaurant. Pretty basic stuff. Good luck growing clientele when first impression is aweful. read more

The food is ok, often cold when it is delivered and there have been a couple major food errors that our table has been made to pay for even after our server asked the owner to comp the mistake.
