I've given this place more than a couple tries and it's just never that good. The best thing about it is the popcorn. On our recent visit we had a nacho. Half the cheese wasn't melted at all and we had asked for jalepenos on the side but they came on top. Could have used more salsa as well. Overall pretty meh. I had an Italian Beef special that was pretty meh as well. Bland even with gardienera and au jus/gravy. The bread was boring and the fries were meh as well. My husband's cheeseburger was pretty pathetic looking and there was no LTO or anything offered. He didn't even finish it and he eats EVERYTHING. The place is always busy - I suspect because of proximity to the sports center. This visit we actually made a reservation so we could get in! But we both agreed there wasn't any point in trying again. read more

Afternoon visit with a buddy for a late lunch. Clive's is a very large place with a full bar, booths, tables and plenty of TVs. Our server was pleasant and helped us with highlights of the menu (this was our first visit). We started with the Pretzel bread app which arrived looking good and hot. They were tasty and a good start to the meal. I had the BBQ sandwich (see pic) which a just ok. The meat was not well "pulled" and was a bit tough to chew. Flavor was average...nothing outstanding or better than other BBQ available in the Twin Cities. My buddy went with the the Chicken Fried Chicken...a large portion covered with plenty of gravy (see photo). Our entrees arrived promptly and at a good temp. Overall, thanks primarily to good service, the visit to Clive's was fine. While we'd try differerent items from the large menu, we would likely stop in when in the area. read more

Food is good, and you get a decent portion at a reasonable price - which is amazing considering today's financial pressures. Service was great, we came here for lunch but it could easily be a place to catch a game with all the TVs in here. The rustic decor is charming. Went here for a birthday party about a year ago and had a few appetizers that I thought were good, this place is bike riding distance from us and we had planned on going back again before now but sadly we were both very disappointed. LOVED the delicious popcorn they had in the popper but it ends there, we ordered nachos and there was very minimal cheese but LOTS of onions and jalapeños not impressed at all, dry and uninspiring. We also had the Quesadillas which were actually ok, just not wow worthy. I am so disappointed in myself for forgetting to take pictures. We heard the waiter telling the table next door their most popular thing on the menu is their chicken fried chicken. Told the waitress it was our first time here and asked for a minute or two to look at the menu; I guess in her mind that mean come back 15 minutes later. I ordered the honey-crispy chicken melt and it was good, but once I stole my guy's pickle slices to incorporate, then it became delicious. My tater tots were not cooked enough. He ordered the grilled reuben and proclaimed it the second-worst grilled reuben he'd had in his life; that the meat tasted like it was doused in liquid smoke and the sauerkraut had too much onion flavor. He pretty much just ate the complimentary popcorn, rye bread from his sandwich and his waffle fries. In town for a wedding. Just wanted to grab a quick bite before the wedding. And of course since I'm in MN I have to get some chicken wild rice soup. Clive's was near our hotel. Reviews looked good. Boy was I shocked upon entering at 1pm on a Saturday. The place was packed. Decided to make it a to go order. Bartender took my order and delivered it to me in under 5 minutes. Amazing seeing how crowded this place was. Soup came with a bread roll and crackers. It did not disappoint. Delicious! While I waited I saw other folks plates. Everything looked yummy. Portions were huge. Including waffle fries. Next time I'm in Minnesota I definitely want to try this place for a full meal. In the meantime, I highly recommend the chicken wild rice soup. read more

This is a fun place! Great sports bar atmosphere. It always seems to be packed too! I went on a Friday night - which naturally is one of the busiest times. There was a wait to be seated but it moved pretty quickly. With me eating alone I ended up skipping the line to sit at the bar. Of course, what did I order but the cajun chicken pasta! It was pretty solid on my spectrum of cajun pastas (which I consider myself an expert on these days). A good balance of chicken and pasta with plenty of creamy sauce. It wasn't very spicy (wish I would've asked for a little more kick) but it still hit the spot. I also really like the fact that they put plenty of peppers and onions in the dish. The only detraction from the meal was the breadstick... It wasn't all that good. I used it to try and clean up the remaining sauce and it just didn't soak up my residuary sauce/hit the spot like it could have. I'd definitely make this my go to spot in Blaine before or after visiting the Super Rink! The menu has great options for everyone in your party and the pricing is very reasonable! read more

Another checkin. Had Friday night dinner here with the sis. Made reservations on Resy last minute, and they had open slots all night. We chose 6pm. We arrived early and only had to sit 5 mins to be sat at a high top. Ordered drinks right before happy hour ended. Sis got the classic fish n chips.... yummy. I love Cubans, so I wanted to try their HOT HAVABA CUVAN. I also am a fan of aiolis, and this sandwich has a Jalapeno pickle aioli. That's where it gets its kick, but it's a good kick. My lips were burning, and it was only exaggerated with my winter chapped lips. The only thing missing in the Cuban was mustard, but I really didn't need it. It would have fought with the Jalapeno pickle flavor. And the pulled beef was hot, soft, and juicy. You'll need napkins for your arms as it goes running down your hands. Or you could be proper and use a knife and fork. *Boo! I learned my lesson last time and got the tator tots. 5 stars! Perfectly crunchy and soft at the same time and well seasoned. I added seasoned sour cream, and it was (better) than I remember (plain SC w/ SS added to the top). Must be a new recipe... thank you! We got wonderful service during our stay. My wife and I stopped in on 10/15//24 so she could play purse bingo. Service was great as usual, food was excellent. Just beware playing bingo there through the Blaine Youth Hockey. My wife called bingo and the bingo helper heard her and called it out to the bingo caller who called another number then told both my wife and her coworker it was too late. Many people there confirmed she called bingo but the caller would not check her card as a winner and continued calling numbers. I'm not sure you can even do that. But either way that l's just wrong. So go for food but be careful playing bingo there. Very disappointing. read more

Clive's is our go-to anytime we are close to the National Sports Center. Its usually pretty busy...probably other hungry soccer families. The food is usually always good: The hubs and I always order beef tips &onions w/ sprinkled blue cheese, garlic mash potatoes, and tasty side of veggies. My sons both get the waffle fries with seasoned sour cream, and the cheese curd burger (I think it's called the state fair burger) with no queso. Now my daughter, who I would say is a chicken tender connoisseur has never been a fan of their chicken tenders. Theyre pretty dry, crunchy hard, and she doesn't like them. Unfortunately I agree. Thankfully she likes the fries, the cheese curd appetizer, and they also have an abundance of tasty popcorn you can serve yourself. So that's always a win. I've never had bad service. Some are very friendly servers and others obviously there to do a job - either way no problem with me since no one has ever been rude or cause delays. The place itself is what I'd consider a combination sports bar/wood cabin. It's clean and so are the bathrooms. The managers do not seem to care about the customer experience or are not expected to care from the owner. They have an extremely high turn over and do not train staff in providing quality customer service. What a horrible experience yesterday, still completely shocked! We started with a nice waitress who got cut, we closed out with her so she was tipped and a different waitress had taken over our table. She was MIA and rude (only over even once after being introduced)! Then the manager came over to let us know she wasn't comfortable serving our group of 8, plus two children. Manager wouldn't tell us why and the pull tab lady along with one other table next to us was shocked!! Not to mention our group had 8 adults of which only 3 were drinking! Not sure why the manager and staff were so inclined to not service us! They have lost our business, also many other family members and friends we have told. Tons of better options in the area for food and service (plus pull tabs). Hope the owner sees this and takes a hard look at who he hires. This group consisted of five different households three of which live in Blaine. Maybe they should treat paying customers with more respect! read more

This location rocks. We came as part of the Team Finnegan's Bicycle Group after the MS ride. They welcomed us with open arms and even had a special on the Finnegan's taps (both Cluster Truck & Irish Amber). Thank you, Manager Nick! We sort of took over the outdoor patio seating area when our tired bike team members arrived. Great service-thank you! If I wasn't married, I would want to date the chef here....we had the Walleye Fingers with an amazing dipping sauce. Plain tartar sauce has too much mayo for my tastes, but this sauce was something special. Just a hint of dill and something really good that I just can't name, but no boring mayo taste at all! Normally I have only good things to say about Clives, but sadly that changed last night. I arrived at about 8:00 PM hoping to enjoy dinner. The sign just inside the entry said "Seat yourself" - so I did. I grabbed a seat at one of the high-top tables not far from the end of the bar. I was expecting someone, anyone, to stop by to greet me, bring me a menu and ask if i wanted anything to drink. 10 minutes passed and not a single person that I could identify as an employee even came to the section of the restaurant that I was sitting in. I gave it another few minutes and then headed for the door. As I was leaving I was thinking that maybe the kitchen had already closed and only people seated at the bar were getting service. When I checked their website, it advertised that the kitchen was open until 10:00 PM. I am not sure what happened or where the server(s) went, but it was a huge disappointment. I am not giving up on Clives and will definitely give them a chance to make up for last night, but I thought somebody needed to hear about my experience. This is a local restaurant that is in a strip mall setting but you'd never know that once you're inside. There is a definite warm, wood grain vibe that just says "come in and relax" when you enter. There are plenty of TVs for sports and it's a bit lounger than a typical restaurant would be but this is a sports bar/restaurant so it lives up to it's name. This place is kind of like BWW if BWW served more than just wings and burgers. This brings me to the menu. The menu is expansive with lots of burger options, sandwiches, seafood options, appetizers and yes, also some steaks but not a wide selection of steaks as I was hoping for. Overall though, there is something here for most everyone. The service was friendly and quick and the meals came hot and correct. I went with the Fish and chips which was really good and some colleagues had burgers and sandwiches and everyone was satisfied. We tried for first time and was pleasantly surprised. Much more spacious on inside than it seems it would be. Service was amazing! She took drink order had helpful suggestions and we were brought refills without even needing to get her attention, she checked on us frequently but not overly so. The food was amazing! Beef sandwich was cooked to perfection and meat was tender and seasoning was spot on. Hamburger was cooked correctly and fries were very hot definitely cooked to order. Awful, awful service. Heard that our family was there so we stopped by last second, we were there maybe 45 minutes tops before they came over and decided to kick us out without proper reason. We had only ordered some refreshments but had we wanted food it would have been impossible because the waitress was barely even on the floor, much less in our section, and never ever at our table. There were 3 underage just drinking soda or drinks from home, at least 5 adults just drinking water or soda, and maybe 3 or 4 at most drinking alcoholic drinks. Clive's Roadhouse claimed the waitress "felt uncomfortable continuing to serve us" and that they could no longer serve our table alcohol despite the fact that the people drinking alcohol were still on their first or second drinks. Our waitress was disrespectful and rude, and when we'd try to order, instead of writing it down and being a proper waitress, she'd question our decisions and give major attitude. Whether it was because of being purely unprofessional, maybe eavesdropping and disliking our conversations (although none of our topics were even serious or in any way inappropriate) or maybe because myself and my boyfriend arrived and are of diverse backgrounds, her attitude was absolutely disgusting and unfitting as a worker in a restaurant environment. Both our family was offended and surprised, along with the table near us as they also left a negative (fitting, and well deserved) review. The only other reason we could think for her "feeling uncomfortable" was because she might have been upset because when she took over our table we offered to close our first tab with the previous waitress so she could get her well earned tips. read more
