So many good things to say about Clean Air. First, their smog price was unbeatable. Drove in with a 2500 Sprinter Van with out-of-state registration and walked out paying less than $50 with a copy of the report. Next, our appointment time was met pretty much on the dot and it only took about 20 minutes. They also have comfortable seats in the shade to sit and wait. The gentleman who did our smog seemed pretty confident about the vehicle, and I loved that he didn't have any problems moving it around (it's high and long). After calling around the state for prices, and even waiting at another business further north (but then leaving because it was going to be $90 and they put another vehicle in before us), I have only great things to say about the team here. My son attends CSUMB and has one of my vehicles with him. The vehicle registration was up for renewal however needed a smog certificate to register. My spouse and I drove down from Northern California and went to another smog shop who stated they were not "Star Certified" and referred us to Clean Air. When we arrived the owner asked us "what time is your appointment today?". When I explained we were in town just for today to handle the smog and registration, the owner stated "Well I can fit you in". After two other non-STAR station visits I came across 'Clean Air'. Rolled in even with-out an appointment and the owner said we can squeeze you in! I was in and out of there in 15 minutes, all paperwork done, happy camper. This is a no frills setup, but they are very efficient at what they do and "Star Certified". Smog check was fast and easy. Called the day before for an appointment. They got me in and the day of it was very fast and efficient (15 minutes)! They're both very friendly and helpful. Just drive slow as you near, because it's an easy entrance to miss, and requires a few U turns if you miss it. read more

I seldom give 5 ratings because I have high expectations, especially not having a lot of money. I first came here 2016, daughter in college, away from home with a used car transferred from another state. We just spent money getting it running for her. Clean Air has great reviews! Her check engine light was on and we were scared of the costs (oh I might add that someone had just ran into her door, smashing it in). So we were on a hope and a prayer. Well.. we were told to leave it, came back.. Jeff repaired it for not much more than the cost of the smog.. Praise GOD!! It's difficult to come to a new area not knowing who to trust, but I am so glad we came here. Sometimes you just need a little good news until things get better. Two weeks ago (7/2017) I brought my vehicle in for smog - passed everything except one says, I'm a gross polluter.. really California! I have a 21 year old Mercedes that has been a life saver for me.. Went to AAA, paid registration and for sticker in window to buy me some time for repairs. I need to check out their mechanic too who has great reviews as well. Oh btw, everyone I've spoken to in Monterey area knows about this place, the owners, staff are so kind. It's one thing when a person can be kind and fair with their gifts but another when they might not realize what a blessing they are in the lives of others.. We are grateful.. We live near Sacramento but my son is going to college in Monterey this year and needed smog done at a Star station. With school and basketball it was hard for him to get in there during the week. I was in town for a few days and called Clean Air (thank you to Advantage Auto Repair for the referral) and they were able to get us in Saturday morning at a time that was perfect for our days schedule. Jeff is an honest man and I appreciate that greatly. I visited other repair/smog stations because of a check engine light issue. I am from out of state and needed to get my vehicle registered in CA - but my check engine light was on which causes your vehicle to automatically fail. Other shops told me it would cost about $120 to put my car up on the lift to see if we could "repair" the code appearing from the check engine light. I called Jeff and he told me that that was stupid, he'd turn my light off for free and if once the engine had run through the process of verifying all the engine codes and the light hadn't turned back on he'd smog check my vehicle and get it passed. Thankfully the light never turned back on and my vehicle was able to pass. I appreciate Jeff's honesty - it will send me back there for any repairs I need and I will recommend him to any friend who may need a smog check. Jeff at Clean Air took my growly Jeep in (at the suggestion of Greg Bean Auto in Pagrovia) and, after a pre-test, assured me that (gulp) it would *not* pass. He showed me the numbers to prove it. He shared some documents with me, explained my options - ranging from "let me inspect it some more and see what's wrong", to "you can drive it to Moss Landing, retire it, and get $1K from the state of CA." This is much more service & advice than you'll get anywhere else, and cost me under $60. I opted to leave it with him - and spent the next day considering my options (and finding a new car to buy in the process). In the meantime, Jeff found a few things wrong, worked his magic, and voila - the Jeep passed. Now I can sell it instead of taking the measly $1K. And, he only charge me a little more.
