Absolutely terrible experience from start to finish. Our party of three was seated and immediately told the kitchen was extremely backed up. Not a problem but we then waited 30+ minutes just for an appetizer. While waiting, I purchased shots directly from the bar and brought them back to our table. Shortly after, a staff member approached our table and asked to see one of our guest's IDs, apparently questioning his age. He provided his ID without issue and was confirmed to be 24 years old. Not long after that, another member of our party attempted to order an additional round of shots since we had been waiting 45 minutes by now for our entrées and was told he was being cut off for being intoxicated. This made absolutely no sense considering 2 of us had only consumed one beer and the 3 of us had one shot each. No one was causing a disturbance, slurring words, or acting intoxicated. The entire situation felt hostile, unprofessional, and completely unnecessary. Between the excessive wait times, poor service, being questioned after legally purchasing drinks, and then being accused of intoxication with virtually no alcohol consumed, our experience was ruined. It was evident that our waitress was butt hurt that we bypassed her and went straight to the bar for shots instead of her making that tip of a couple dollars off of that individual tab. We paid for what we had received and left before our entrées even arrived. I've never felt so unwelcome in a restaurant. There are far too many good places to spend your money to tolerate this level of service and treatment. I will never return and cannot recommend this establishment to anyone. read more

The appetizers menu offers an excellent selection of options. I opted for the sliders and jalapeño bacon-wrapped poppers. Both were excellent choices. The candied bacon on the sliders complemented the melted cheese perfectly. The bacon on the poppers was cooked to a perfect crisp, making them a favorite. They were loaded with cream cheese and spices, creating a delightful combination. I highly recommend! The service was excellent. read more

The restaurant didn't have an official waitlist or waiting area. Once sat, our server came over quickly to take our order. The buffalo chicken wings and the fried pickle spears were tasty. The sliders, fried oysters, and crab cakes were really good! The blackened chicken pasta was alright. It didn't have the blackened kick that I'm used to. A really great place to watch sporting events or have a fun day/night out. All the food coming out of the kitchen looked amazing! We had the Fried Oyster Basket (I added Popcorn Scallops ) & the Fried Catfish Basket. The oysters & scallops were delicious & moist. The catfish filets are huge (3 in our basket), we could only eat 2 of them. The General Manager Crystal & the bartender Katelyn was AWESOME!!! To be clear, I have traveled everywhere in the US and places around the world, so I've eaten at hundreds of restaurants and know my food. First time at this restaurant and was looking forward to the oysters. My friend and I went for my birthday, and upon entering the place smelled like wet dog and appears like a dive bar. Our server appeared rushed every time he approached us. We first tried the oyster shooters and were unable to swallow them due to the very spicy tomato sauce they put in a large glass, not a shooter glass, so swallowing that was very unpleasant. As an appetizer we ordered the fried pickles. They came in a spear not a coin with a small dollop of dipping sauce. We did not eat all of them because they were super salty which is why every place, I have had fried pickles come in coin form. Our server recommended ordering the premium oysters, so we ordered a dozen to share. Another very unpleasant experience whereas the oysters were not fully shucked, and had small pieces of shell in every bite. We have eaten many oysters, and this is not what we have ever experienced. When the server came to clear our table, I did share the experience regarding the oysters and a reputable place would have given some kind of discount for the unsavory experience. This place did not. Decided to venture out to New Braunfels and try something different. Great decision. Opted for this divey place called The Oyster Bar. The name says it all. We had oysters and this place is definitely a bar. It wasn't very busy but you can tell this place can be loud. Service was on point as our server came by as soon as we sat down, got us started with drinks and offered to answer any questions we had. Mrs had a jalapeño margarita and of course I had to try their old fashioned. The margarita was great and my old fashioned was ok at best Reviews of this place don't speak well of their oysters but we enjoyed ours. They were meaty and flavorful. Pricing was very reasonable. Only knock was limited parking but we managed. Look forward to revisiting the area to check out other spots in the area as well. read more

We tried The Oyster Bar for the first time a couple of weeks ago and were very happy with everything we ordered. Since we had never been, we tried several different items: soup of the day was Tomato Basil with chorizo (I was hesitant at first but turns out it was delicious and and now I soup that I crave!), we tried the calamari appetizer - they looked like mozzarella sticks which I was also unsure of but were actually tender and had great flavor, tried oysters on the half shell and baked oysters...two thumbs up for both, and finally the ahi tuna..loved it! Second time here, went on a date with the wife after some fishing out on the Guadalupe and it was amazing! We had the fried pickles, and crab dip as appetizers. Both were amazingly delicious! The wife got the spicy chicken sandwich and I got the seafood pasta and oysters. The pasta was very good and oysters were ok, wife loved the chicken sandwich! Our favorite was the crab dip for sure. From their menu: Equal parts chilled Jameson and Butterscotch Schnapps followed by an orange juice chaser and a bite of delicious candied bacon. Just like pancakes and syrup, amazing." I can testify that it is indeed amazing and there is a tendency to order a second helping. If this does not tickle your fancy then order their Bloody Gonzo. Per their menu this is their "famous Bloody Mary hand-built with our house recipe. Garnished with celery, pickled green beans, olives, a dill pickle, lime, and even a piece of hot bacon." I did sample the Gonzo and it is spiced perfectly and the bloody mix is on point. If you are not dining I would suggest sitting at the bar for quick, friendly, professional service. Go here regularly for a quick meal. Drinks and food are good and service is usually average. Last night I went with 3 members of my family for a quick meal and it was a disaster. We ordered 2 appetizers and then 4 meals. The waitress pretty much ignored us for 30 minutes or more and then came with our meals and asked how everything looked. My wife said it seems ok but we never got the appetizers. She responded " I'll check on them " . There was no apology whatsoever and right when we finished our meals she brought them out. Again no apology and we were charged for them. Meals and drinks were good except my wife's sliders were very over cooked, the burger, the bacon and the bun were way too cooked. Not a great experience and our waitress could not have had a worst attitude if she tried. We live in town and will be looking for new places to try next time . read more

The bartenders are attentive and there's a lot of space for small and large parties, as well as a pool table. There was no communication we kept being told it's coming., It's coming. We cancelled order, paid our drink bill and told her we're leaving and she said she was sorry. Wow, that was a pleasant surprise. Definitely had the old town bar style down. I felt like I was coming into Cheers but with less space. In fact, I should come more often and tell them my name is Norm for the proper greeting whenever I come for lunch. Upper area was a traditional bar and the seats around it were packed at lunch. No one was in the side that had the tables and darts. We sat and watched some football on the screens as we ate. The waitress was fantastic. As were all the staff. Started off with a cup of their tomato/basil soup with chorizo. I'm not a tomato soup fan, but the waitress said a lot of folks liked it so I was up for it. Great soup! Then had the Grilled Shrimp Po'boy sandwich. It was a very good sandwich, but with only five of the tasty shrimp it was heavy on the Poor boy side of the sandwich. Fries were perfect. The blackened chicken sandwich as always is amazing, the only reason I'm giving this three stars: tonight we went for dinner, ordered an appetizer. Never arrived, told server to cancel it we were finished and wanted to pay the bill. The server came back a min after telling us that the kitchen handed it over to her even though we had already canceled it, we told her that we did not want it. She said just go ahead and take it to go and left it at the table. Once we got the bill we saw that we were still charged for it, even though I told her to cancel it and when it was brought over we did not want it. Always have to come here when I visit New Braunfels. I always try to get pictures of the food but it always looks so i forget and just start digging in. I've only had the servers Ashley and Jose but they always have a smile on their face and are very friendly.
