This convenience store has amazing food. It was opened late night and it was near to our hotel. We ordered the grilled wings and a beef shawarma wrap. It was very flavorful, well seasoned and looked good. We grabbed a couple soft drinks - it was a real tasty treat. Recommended for a quick flavorful meal if you're in the area. read more

Top notch Mediterranean food in the CBD with some of the best falafel I've ever had in the Western Hemisphere. Cleo's is a grocery/deli/convenience store-cum-cafe and offers a wide variety of freshly prepared Mediterranean food along with non alcoholic beverages, chips, candy, etc. I accidentally stumbled across this gem while making my way to the Walgreens on the next block and was drawn in by the signs on the door announcing the Shawarma and Falafel awaiting inside. My first time there, I got the falafel sandwich ($7) which is relatively inexpensive, decently sized, packed well, and with some of the best tasting falafel I've ever had. The place seems to be a family run establishment and the service is very fast. I got my order to go and the sandwich was prepared in under ten minutes. My friends wanted to try it out as well so we went back the next day to pick up breakfast and got another round of falafel sandwiches and a Baba ghanouj ($7), which was also supremely fresh, garlicky, and a perfect complement to the falafel. My only suggestions would be to add a few dips/sauces with the falafel, to offer the option of toasted pita bread for the hummus/Baba ghanouj, and to maybe rearrange the prickly plants located right by the entrance. Okay so this place is exactly what you want from a convenience store shawarma place. We came here at 1 AM on a Thursday night and there was a line and the cashier was on the phone taking orders simultaneously as the orders in store the whole time we were there. There wasn't any visible menu, just some options painted on the window. All pretty typical stuff. I got some chicken shawarma with rice and hummus and it was so good! The rice tasted like it was cooked in butter, and the shawarma was perfectly seasoned. The hummus was good, and had a couple pickled vegetables in the center. My companions got falafel wraps and enjoyed them. Note that several of the pictures on yelp appear to be from a nearby restaurant also named Cleos. This place is tinfoil and styrofoam- not pretty plating. Also it is a convenience store that had a lot of unique drink and chip options that are on the hard to find but not obscure side. read more

We just wanted a place where we could have a quick meal. When we walked in, we didn't realize it was take-out only, but our hotel had a table where we could eat so it worked out. The food was good - falafel, hummus, grape leaves and spinach pie. Spinach pie could have been heated a bit more; maybe they only had a microwave, so it wasn't browned. We ordered a couple items off the menu: falafel platter and grilled vegetable platter with extra pitas. My husband walked down to pick it up and waited 20 minutes where the clerk just had her phone in her face. Finally, he asked her what was the status and she said he should have been clearer when he showed up. He gave her my name for the order and what we ordered. What else would he need to do? Maybe if she picked up her face and cared about the customer it would have been a better experience. The food was just okay at best and not worth the cost or poor service. Won't be going back nor recommend to any of our friends. I don't usually complain but people should expect more when you try to support local businesses. I tried the Kudsia during my first visit at Cleo's (when I wasn't even hungry because I had just eaten and was just joining friends) and thought it was very good. Hummus, I have been eating as long as I've been speaking English, but I had never had it mixed with Foul, and man was it delicious. So that was a while back. Maybe a couple of months? And the other day, I was hungry and trying to figure out what to eat, and I found myself craving the Kudsia. I tried to rope friends into going with me but no one was hungry, so I went by myself and ordered the Kudsia and a Chicken Shawarma Wrap. I finished the wrap and brought some of the Kudsia home, which I finished the next day. Cleo's is definitely one of my favorites for Middle Eastern. We had the hummus, baba ganouj, tabouli, falafel and dolma. The baba was the best I've had, the fiancé agreed. The hummus was very good as well. All of the things we tried were tasty but the clear standout was the baba. The tabouli was a predominately parsley recipe, which I prefer to the more grain heavy preparations. It was simple and very fresh tasting, exactly what one looks for in tabouli. We had an easy time ordering vegan food and saw several other items we could have ordered. We tried to go back during lunch time but it was closed, despite the signs flashing "open" and an "open 24/7" proclamation on the windows. The falafel was extremely fresh giant, and made from scratch. The Gyro slices were thick n juicy. This was probably better gyro than we've had in Houston which is saying a lot. The plates are garnished and decorated very nicely with spices and salad in the presentation on the hummus adds a nice touch. The lamb chops were amazing! Seasoned and garnished to perfection. Definitely my highlight along with the gyro plate. It's a bit pricier than usual but it's the French Quarter and its of excellent quality and convenient. Let down. No problems with the people here or the interior. It was the food that didn't cut it. Tried the falafel appetizer, 1 chicken schwarma wrap (shout out to the Avengers flick), 1 beef schwarma wrap, and 1 gyro. All 4 disappointed. The falafel was just too much spice...more than normal. It was nice and crispy but way over the top. 5 bucks for it. Their wraps and gyro's are now 6.50. Not a great value as all three we tried had a ton of lettuce and hardly any meat or even tomatoes. The tzatziki on them was basically just sour cream. Even the pitas weren't warm. Way, way, way too much pita and not enough meat. It was basically like just eating a lettuce pita with sour cream. Grody. I ended up tearing off a ton of the pita just to make the ratio of meat to bread a lot better. What a waste. Please take a look at my pics for evidence. Five years later and a new location and I am pretty sure this the best food in the city of New Orleans. This food is ridiculously good. Bring everyone you know. Almost two years to the day since I first ate at Cleo's, I am back again and the food is as perfect as it ever was. It may even be better. I accidentally found this place as I was walking by and the smell hit me. I crossed the street to see where it was coming from. I actually thought I was standing in front of the wrong place for a couple seconds. This is a tiny cafe inside of a convenience store, but in New Orleans we know that some of our best food comes from tiny places. I have to say that I rank this place as one of my favorite restaurants in the city, maybe anywhere. The ingredients are always fresh and the service is always on point. They are fast and always friendly. The variety of food is substantial and a true representation of authentic Mediterranean food. I love to come in here and order a variety of appetizers and they never disappoint. Every time I bring someone to New Orleans to visit, I bring them here so they can experience the best of food our city offers. After coming highly recommended from my friends I was excited to eat here. Super close to our AirBnb, this was the likely choice after bringing in the New Year on Bourbon and Frenchmen since it's open 24 hours. At 2:56am (yes I checked the receipt time) I ordered Chicken Shawarma with hummus and rice. There is plenty of seating so we grabbed tables and began the wait. I watched as the customers before me were called to get their food. I watched as customers who ordered after me got their food. I watched my friends get their food, and decided to ask the status of my order. Boxed up and in a bag sat what I thought was my order behind the counter for what the server said had been "sitting a while." I open the box to see lamb and handed it back. The cashier then volunteers to see what the deal is and is now in the kitchen area claiming to work diligently on my order. By this point it is pushing 4am. My excitement from the new year's festivities have worn off and one of my friends is entering a deep sleep. Finally, I am called back up to get my food. With a deep sigh, we leave and head back to the house. Of course, continuing the bad luck train, I get comfortable and open the box to see BEEF Shawarma. At least it was a healthy portion size (to be positive). I'm chalking this experience up to a busy night. The hummus was to die for so I know the potential this place has. There are a bit of inconsistencies in the servings depending on whoever is making it, i see. I have been back a number of times since first coming, and while the quality is on, the quantity is somewhat disappointing. I've really taken a liking to the sautéed veggies (they're deliscious) and add either lamb or chicken shawarma. I've noticed how at times I'll get more veggies than other visits. They've been noticeable differences too. I also feel some type of way about paying over twenty dollars for a plate that doesn't feel like a twenty dollar plate, ya kno? Like, spend a Jackson on a plate of Chinese food and you can feed a friggin family. I know this isn't Chinese but i really feel like they could do better on the portions. I am all for quality over quantity, but it's not like they're lacing the food with golden truffle dust or anything. I wish this could be a 3.5 star rating because the food is excellent, i just know they could show a little more love on the portions. read more

Cleo's fit the bill. I came in and the friendly gentleman behind the counter took my order. I asked what vegetarian dish he recommended and he told me that the Fried Eggplant Platter was their best dish, and very healthy to boot. The eggplant was tender and delicious, so I'm glad for the recommendation. It had a garlicky, slightly spicy kick to it. It came with hummus and a simple lettuce/cabbage/cucumber/tomato salad, and a few pieces of pita bread. The hummus was fine but the eggplant was definitely the star of the show. The only thing keeping it from perfection was that it seemed slightly too oily -- dripping with it -- but I know eggplant really soaks up whatever it's cooked in. Didn't stop me from enjoying it! This is a great spot for a quick, casual eat in or takeout meal, and the place is open 24 hours! It has a small market inside so you can also pick up a few snacks, drinks, etc. Convenient. So in town for Beyoncé day and scooped late night places to eat after the concert. Came across this place due the the rack of lamb offer till 5am. So, not sure if it was because of the thousands of folks in town but the wait time was an hour. Service was considering the owner was checking folks out taking orders giving the drivers their pickup orders oh and taking phone orders all while occasionally having to kick riff raff out for being disrespectful. I understand so I say 4 stars. My disappointment comes with the food. We waited an hour then walked 15min back to the hotel only to get upstairs and unwind to open the chicken for 17.95 for three baby chicken wings and fries drenched in salt, to my rack of lamb being 3 pieces overly salted for 29.95. Now from the other reviews and photos I'm going to chuck it up to it be overwhelmingly crowd from all aspects and they were trying to keep up as best they could. I hesitate to post such a negative review, but we had an awful experience. I ordered online, waited 10 minutes and went into the store/restaurant thinking I had about five minutes to wait. I had selected falafel salads, spanikopita, fried eggplant, pita and a couple of other sides, for a total bill of about $42. When I got to the counter, the man at the register didn't seem aware I'd placed an order. He went to the kitchen and returned, saying the food was being prepared. Fifteen minutes later another store worker and the cook began a screaming argument. There were threats of physical violence and a lot of obscenities, all within earshot of anyone in the store. I waited. Customers came and went. After another 10 minutes my food was delivered. Finally! But when we opened the packages, we were disappointed. The spanikopita pastry was gummy, not flaky. The fried eggplant was bland. The felafel was hard, dry and cold and the salad wilted. The hummus was tasty and the pita bread was also good. In short, we won't be back. read more

They're still insisting I was lying about my order, and to make it worse, it was the business owner that was responsible for this abysmal customer service. Despite the insinuation that I was a drunken reveler, I actually was a local hotel employee on my lunch break. We had to deal with the Mardi Gras tourists too, but did so with professionalism, focus on customer service, and basic courtesy. Instead of providing with the most basic level of customer service, the owner converted me into a lifelong adversary of his business. Over the past 5 years, I have told everyone I have had the opportunity to speak with about his business that the customer service here is unacceptable. I have encouraged everyone I know to avoid doing any business here. I have talked groups of people out of going to this restaurant, time and time again. read more

The food was absolutely delicious. I got the chicken thighs and sides of salad and hummus. They staff was super-sweet and recommended the hummus, which was right on. They made the food while I was there, so it is super fresh too. It looks more like a convenience store than a restaurant and it has some chips and drinks. There are some seats to wait for the food, but it isn't table service and there aren't tables there. There are some parks a short walk away- just something to consider. read more

This place relocated to canal! Congrats to the owners for the new location. It is clean w nice decor. The food is great. 2nd time here and I would return. Last time I ordered the sand which and was not too crazy abt it mainly bc of the pita used. It was more tough to eat. This past Monday I ordered the chicken scwharma plate and was glad that I did. The dressing on salad and season for the chicken is delish. I haven't tried anything like it (comparing to other Mediterranean restaurants I've been to). There's more effort in chicken seasoning compared to other locations. I would come back for that. W the rice they tip it off w a tablespoon of pomegranate. NICE touch. Never thought of that before and I am obsessed! Star deducted bc service is slow. Both times I came they were slow to get my order - even I when I came in during an hour when there was no patrons. Still slow. Its a restaurant set up in a market so Mayb I should give it a little break for that factor. But no, holding on to my guns. Slow service with great food. We had the labneh for appetizer, chicken shawarmas for entree and baklava for dessert. It was just GREAT!!!!!! This is one of the best Mediterranean food I have ever had. I have had Mediterranean food in a lot pf different places. The chicken tasted very fresh and delicious. The presentation of the food was great too.. Also the server/ cashier guy was very friendly and helpful. Will be back soon when I come visit NOLA again. We went there again on our last day in NOLA. This place is just GREAT. Walking back to the hotel we looked on yelp and saw that this place is open late and has great reviews. We got the Gyro platters and some labneh and left feeling very full and extremely satisfied.
