Found this place while searching for a place to have breakfast. When we walked we were greeted and told to have a seat anywhere. They didn't mention you still have to get up to order the food despite asking and bringing us drinks. Staff were very friendly. One of the women brought beads and bubbles for our baby to play with which was very nice of her. When we got our food my chicken and waffles looked amazing but lacking syrup. They sprinkled just enough to see it and they don't have any syrup on the tables so I just ate them dry for the most part. The chicken was good, the waffles were okay, my wife's food she said was good. Compared to all the other spots we had while in NOLA, I feel like this was only alright. If you're visiting and only have limited time to try places, I wouldn't recommend. We walked past this place while headed to another place (there was a wait) so we came back due to being limited on time. You order your food first at the counter and it's brought to your table. It took awhile for us to get our food and saw people getting the food that came in after us. They eventually stopped taking orders because the kitchen "was backed up". We inquired about our order then it was brought out. The food was mid at best. The grits were gross- no flavor at all. I don't add salt to my food but this needed salt and butter. The "toast" was just bread that never saw a toaster a day in its life. The hot sausage was good and taste like it was homemade. The best thing here was the orange juice. This place came recommended by multiple locals who were in the area and I decided to take them up on this. It's your standard café No Frills here but they feed you well. The shrimp and grits tasted amazing and the service was pretty quick. If I had to take off one star, it was because the shrimp in the shrimp and grits still had the tails on them. I know that might be petty however, that is something that kinda annoys me when it comes to dining out. We asked if we needed to order at the counter considering it was our first time at this restaurant and we were told that someone would come wait on us. Came to this place while in the area and chose it based on its rating. It's Easy to find location with large menu and seat yourself seating. The staff could be friendlier to customers and each other, and the place definitely needs a deep cleaning, everything is spread out and packaged individually like the condiments and everything you need to eat which is rather annoying when your food arrives and you have to get up and move around tons of other customers to get what you need. The food came quickly and was reasonably priced but lacked heat. I Was also disappointed that the fried potatoes were not homemade. I ordered a chia latte hot and it wasn't hot at all. Overall the reason for the low rating was all about the service and lack of quality and cleanliness. You are served on paper plates with paper cups and plastic wear that isn't covered or sealed. Love this spot next to my house right at the downtown. Its a counter service type restaurant where you prepay first and get the food at your table by either kitchen chef or other staff. Prices are very reasonable not expensive for the same type of food you get at other spot with big price tag. Plus you get breakfast potatoes and small salad with benedicts which i liked most. Quality of the food is amazing along with freshly squeezed orange juice which they make in front of you after you pay. Being a vegetarian person i liked the lots of veg options includes fried green tomatoes benedict and avocado toast they have on the menu with the local and traditional touch of new orleans seasoning. What a gem in the Central Business District. We came to this establishment for breakfast on a Sunday morning. The reviews were good and the prices were reasonable. We knew we had struck gold when we entered the establishment and saw a bunch of locals in their dining. Upon entering you go to the counter to place your order and then you find seating if it's available. this location only probably has about 10 tables but they also have bar seating. We were able to find a table with no issue it was not overcrowded at Sunday about 11 AM in the morning. Our food came out within 15 minutes and we also were able to enjoy freshly squeezed orange juice. The oj was so fresh and squeezed right in front of you so you saw every orange that went into providing you a delicious vitamin c cocktail. For food I got the pasta with chicken. I was so pleasantly surprised by the amount of chicken breast that I got in my pasta I had more chicken than I probably had pasta and it was absolutely fantastic. My husband got the all meat omelette with a side of breakfast potatoes and he thoroughly enjoyed his omelet and had some to take back to the hotel room. We also sampled their gumbo and it was very good, I would say it was a little bit on the salty side but it evened out with the rice. Nobody could say that that baby lacked any flavor because it was very tasty. I wish that we had found this restaurant earlier in our trip as we would have probably been there every day. Additionally they had really reasonably priced breakfast sandwiches so if you want to get something before going to the airport or just don't want to sit down they had breakfast sandwiches for less than the price of a McDonald's breakfast meal. read more

While visiting New Orleans we were staying at a hotel just around the corner from the Bread and Butter Cafe. After a very early morning flight and dropping off bags at the hotel, we were in need of a place to grab breakfast. We found B&B on Yelp and headed over. The restaurant looks very small from the outside, but actually has a decent amount of room inside. After a brief wait in line we ordered a few breakfast sandwiches and took a seat. This was everything we were looking for, quick, pleasant service, and good food. The breakfast sandwiches and potatoes were very good, and the fresh squeezed orange juice was fantastic. This establishment seems to have a recurring issue with overcharging customers for items missing from to-go orders, yet they refuse to provide refunds or make things right. Fried Green Tomatoes Eggs Benedict- 3.5 Stars Eggs and tomatoes were cooked perfectly but the hollandaise sauce was bland. Needed a little bit more lemon in the sauce. Crab Cake Eggs Benedict- 4 Stars - you can taste the crab cake but it has a little bit more fillers (bread seasoning) than I prefer. Eggs were "on point"! After about a 45 minute wait, our food came out with no silverware. The kid bussing tables and bringing the food looked like he was being forced to work there as punishment and then was going to be forced to go to church.
