I stopped in here before catching the train at Back Bay for a Pats playoff game. It worked perfectly as a pre-game spot. Great location right near the station, which made everything easy. This is a classic Boston neighborhood bar with a typical Irish look and feel. Comfortable, casual, and exactly what you expect. Good setup to grab a drink and a quick bite before heading out. I ordered a burger and a couple of IPAs. My girlfriend had a wrap and a Chardonnay or two. Everything was solid. Not standout food, but close enough. What we ordered did the job and fit the setting. Service was friendly and attentive. Our waitress even called us "love," which added to the experience. Overall, this was a solid visit. Good location, easy vibe, and reliable food and drinks. Carmen the bartender is super aggressive if you don't leave her the tip that she expects. She will literally throw your drink out and kick you out afterwards and have her manager "back her up" when they did provide the worst possible service ever. Seriously be careful coming here. This place is like if a group of post grad interns and a western Massachusetts college frat house got together and formed a child. What more can be described as Boston charm than sticky floors, drinks in plastic cups, and the occasional Celtics game rambling in the background? Clerys is your hole in the wall/watering hole type of spot for any Northeastern student with a lucky fake ID. I've had my fair share of fun moments but since then have grown out of it. First the good. The waitress was VERY nice, liked her a lot. We went in December on a cold night. Might as well sat outside! The place was ice cold. Left with our feet numb. The plates had plenty of food, you would not feel cheated in that regard. Drinks were decent as well. However the food was very salty and a day later I still feel remarkably full and I only ate half my meal. You are near Copley at this location. Next time I would head elsewhere. I have only attended Clerys in the evening, so can't really speak to the food or dining ambience, but can certainly say that in my experience, it is well worth it for a fun night out and some drinks with friends! Drinks are reasonably priced and there's a space for everyone. If catching the game and chatting with friends is your speed, then the upstairs is for you! If you're looking for something with a more club-type ambience, then downstairs in the space fondly referred to as the "Boom Boom Room", is the place for you! Truly something for everyone here and have always had positive interactions with the staff and DJs here! It is worth noting that Clerys is one of the very few places in Boston that does not charge a cover (nope- not at all, even after 10pm) and I hope this remains true for a long time to come!! I have often thought it makes little sense to pay $10 (even $15-20 in some places nowadays) only to then have to also pay for a drink after entering, which is why myself and many I know find ourselves at Clerys weekend after weekend. For bar food the foods delicious. This time we made the mistake of going on trivia night...the trivia host is so loud the waitresses can't even hear your order. It tends to be a younger crowd so it can get a little loud and rowdy but the food and drinks are good. We got the Smokey Mango Mai Thai, Bee Stings wings, Hot Honey Roni Pizza, Wagyu Sliders, Buffalo Dip, Clery's Famous Steak Tips, and Southend Cheesesteak. All of the dishes were tasty. Unfortunately, it was one of those nights for I Quizzed My Pants, a trivia team unable to bring home Olympic gold in what was no trivial matter. As a place to home one's trivia craft, this was not the spot: only ten questions in an hour left these budding Einsteins wondering if e equaled mc you later, yet we persisted to the end of the game. Interns in business casual, no doubt the inspiration for the summer "man in finance" song flooded the bar with trust fund and blue eyes abound. This is your archetypical college Irish bar. If you know what to expect, this is everything you could have expected. I enjoyed it. They have a line at the door of course, and it's packed inside, especially downstairs which requires a second line to get down to the basement where they have, a hot dark dance floor filled with bodies blasting early 2000s hits on a Saturday night. They even threw in some newer stuff and some Reggaeton and really captured the entire demographic, which seem to be mostly people under 25 and mostly white. The drinks are your typical bar drinks. They don't have anything special or signature cocktails at least from what I could see. I got the safety option, high noon. The bathroom is super small only two stalls, and one of them (of course the one I was in) didn't have toilet paper. There's a cute Photo Booth that takes three pictures of you, gives you your option for borders and lets you send it to as many phone numbers as you'd like. What an adorable way to remember the night. We made our own dance floor in the corner by the emergency exit, right where the security was stationed, and he was really nice and funny and let us have our space and kept guys from bothering us. However, a holiday party led me to walk through their doors and to discover that their space was divvied up into a bar area along the front, an enclosed "bistro" bar in the back, and another dining space overlooked by calm moose head to the left back corner. Our group had the privacy of the bistro and shared a number of appetizers through the evening: CLERYS TOTS $12.00 crispy handmade mashed potato croquettes, bacon, roasted jalapeño aioli, scallions, cheese WINGS $13.00 buffalo, bbq, Wayne Gretzky, honey-hot, lemon pepper or cajun NACHOS $14.00 baked three cheese blend, salsa verde, salsa roja, sour cream, scallion, cilantro CLASSIC CHEESE PIZZA $13.00 marinara, mozzarella, house pizza spice MEDITERRANEAN PIZZA $16.00 roasted garlic, mozzarella, spinach, peppers, mushrooms, red onion, olives, EVOO, house pizza spice I liked their bbq wings. Their cheese pizza was okay. The tots were crispy with mashed potato inside, but I didn't sense any of the extras listed on the menu description. The room was long but nice. BE CAREFUL: Bartenders adding additional tips to credit card receipts. Went with some friends and since I was ordering for a group of people we made sure to look at the receipt so people could Venmo. A couple days later I noticed on my credit card that I was charged an extra $30. Spoke to some other friends who were there and they all said their cards were charged slightly more than they remember. Seems like the staff is adding extra to the tip amount, I would be very careful paying with card here! read more

I'm happy to see Clery's still around after all these years. It's a standard bar with lots of seats at the bar as well as tons of tables scattered around. I used to come here on Friday nights back in college for drink specials and a DJ in the basement. Fast forward almost 20 years, I stopped by here on a recent business trip to Boston. Not much has changed. Decent drinks and a good bar scene. I haven't eaten here at all so can't review any of the menu other than the beer LOL Worth checking out if you're in the area but I wouldn't go too far out of my way as there are a lot of other options in Boston! read more

Clery's is an ok spot to grab drinks and apps. Typical bar with an average drink selection, food and service. Space is large enough to accommodate big crowds and they have a section downstairs as well. Close to BackBay station so easy access and hence crowded. read more

On our trip to Boston we stumbled upon this bar after dinner. We checked out the Yelp reviews and waltzed on in. It's large, with a main bar right in front of you with a couple of tall tables around...and extends to the back with more seating. We sat right next to the open window and ordered some drinks. I had a beer, the ladies some cocktails. The breeze from outside was lovely - not used to that in South Florida! About an hour later they had to close the windows as they were starting up some live music and they told us they had to close them off, because of noise ordinances. All in all it was a good time, but nothing more than a normal bar to me unfortunatly. The cocktails were good - and I guess reasonably priced for the area we were in. read more

They kept touching me and I have to go to the police tomorrow since they took my ID. It still makes me mad about the whole situation with my Id and not letting me inside. I live and work right by Clerys and it is the truest neighborhood bar, for all times of day, so I figured I'd review them all: Weekday Lunch: have come for team lunches with coworkers multiple times. The service is always fast, and the shortrib grilled cheese is a fan favorite! Happy Hour: they don't have any happy hour specials, but this place gets PACKED between 5-7 on Thursday/Friday. Be prepared for standing room at the bar. Always a fun time. Trivia nights: Clerys has trivia on Wednesday evenings, but it is not as organized as other restaurants in the area. It is really loud and the people who run the trivia sit inconvenient to the bar. Probably would not come back to trivia here. Late night/weekend nights: dancing in the basement is fun, but know that it would be tons of young adults, and take it for what it is. Great that there is no cover, but that is offset by the bud light soaked floor and uncleaned restrooms. Brunch: pretty good food, but is never fully clean from the night before, and can be slow. I think their next door neighbor, Brownstone, is a better brunch option. All in, Clerys is great and reliable, just set your expectations accordingly depending on what you're heading there for! read more

I always have a great time when I go to Cleary's, but I'll now reconsider because of the treatment my friends and I got from the manager. There was a man sitting alone and the bar who was harassing and taking pictures of us. We asked him to stop which only made this worse. I slipped away to ask the hostess for help so she got the manager to go speak to him. Unfortunately, it became clear that the manager and this man were buddies and the manager completely dismissed our concerns. This man has been reported before and is known to many as being rude to those around him. Pretty disappointing that the manager prioritizes his pals over the safety and comfort of women in his establishment. read more
