They offer up a good variety and if you can't make up your mind opt for the 7-flavor ice cream flight. I choose a to dabble in a shrub float. New item for me. Shrub is a sweetened fruit infused vinegar. For the float they use the shrub (from local vendor Girl Meets Dirt), seltzer water, and your choice of ice cream. I definitely could see this being a summer drink. Has a bit of a bite from the vinegar (I'd advise to make sure it's all fully incorporated or you'll end up with a straight shot of the shrub). read more

Absolutely no bad notes here. The ice cream flavors were so good! I sampled the matcha almond and earl gray and my partner sampled POG and coffee cookies. All were HITS. I ended up ordering a scoop of the matcha almond which definitely had more almond flavor than matcha, but the matcha came through towards the end of the tasting. The person working there was doing their thing! It was just them yet they were calm, cool, collected despite having a line out the door. Hands down the best waffle cone I've had anywhere. It was light, thin and crispy. Not too sweet, perfectly cooked and delicious. The ice cream here is beyond creamy. It's complex and delicious with a "chew" to it that i just can't explain. On my visit I had pistachio and ginger and the flavor profiles of both were simple, humble and yet very flavorful. The nuance of getting that perfect combination of creamy and flavor can't be easy but here they make it seem like child's play. The staff is very friendly. Signs up to let you know a double scoop is actually four scoops (nice for tourists to know ahead of time). And they will let you get all different flavors for each scoop too. And for a double scoop (4 scoops) it's less than $10 if I recall correctly. I couldn't believe it. The small ice cream shop is cute and inviting with great people. Extra points for having a good handful of dairy free options, and even more extra points for using compostable spoons. After dinner we wanted to get something for dessert. We took advantage of one of the sunnier weekends in Orcas Island to get some ice cream. I ordered a half scoop of the POG (Passion Orange Guava) sorbet ($4.25). They have a lot of unique flavors and you're welcome to try out as many of them as you would like. The half scoop is already plenty for me so I'm glad I went with that size. The sorbet felt creamy, even though it didn't have any milk in it. The compostable spoons were also very cute, and it's great that they're very conscious about these things. They have a few window seats to eat your ice cream as well as a couple chairs in the back. Otherwise, there's also some seating outside to enjoy the sun. read more

This place is an absolute delight for an ice cream shop! Located just off the main road in town (and right down from Brown Bear Bakery), it's an easy walk from anywhere nearby. They've got about 20 total flavors counting sorbets and non-dairy options. Plenty of interesting and fun flavors as well as favorites. The 7 scoop flight option is lovely and gives you a chance to sample anything that looks good. The highlights for us however were the affogato (get it with chocolate almond chunk) and the shrub float using syrup from Girls meets dirt - we shared a lemon lavender and it was brilliant! Prices are spending, but for the quality, it was worth it! We'll be back at least 2 more times as we're here 2 more days! read more

My family and I were at Clever Cow recently, and we wanted to comment on a repeated behavior that I've observed. Our daughter is a young teenager and who has struggled since the start of the pandemic with anxiety about being in stores and in public. When she is anxious, she tends to be quiet. It's fine - it's her way of coping with things, and we respect that. But on 3 occasions over the past year, when she's attempted to order ice cream and the manager, April, couldn't hear her voice over the music, April has been consistently rude to her. Most recently after saying she couldn't hear her order, she referred to our daughter - in front of her and us - in the third person, saying loudly "Can someone translate for her"? That was offensive and disrespectful to her, and to us. We know that the store has been slammed with the busy season, and at the end of a long day the staff and manager are probably tired of the same thing over and over - taking orders, scooping, etc. We know the staff had to weather the pandemic, and we know that hiring has been a challenge for business on the island. Here's the thing: we know it's been hard for you, and we are willing to acknowledge it and understand it and be friendly and compassionate and respectful to you - even when you're stressed (especially when you appear stressed). Despite the fact that your attitude was insulting and rude (again), we were still nice. We still tipped. We still supported your business. The manager, on the other hand, couldn't see past her own frustrations and intimidated/humiliated a teenage girl - a young woman who is part of this community. I would hope that an independent businesswoman would want to be seen as a role model for teenage girls. But instead, to her you're now just "the mean ice cream woman," and that's a real shame. April - you took a nice day and a nice visit and put a black mark on it because you couldn't keep your emotions in check. I sincerely hoped that what has happened with our daughter - on three occasions now - was just a fluke. But the fact that I've seen this behavior three times tells me that it's not (also, I've read all of the 1-star reviews on Yelp and this behavior features in there prominently). We'll certainly keep going to Clever Cow - we will not let one rude person ruin it for us. But before bringing friends or visitors in we're going to warn them, "Well, the ice cream is great, but the owner can be rude." I hope that the manager and the owners reflect on this. This is an easy fix: just be nicer to your customers. They want you to succeed. read more

Situated in "downtown Eastsound," this little family-run novelty ice cream shop looks unassuming when you are passing by, that is, until you see the kids and adults licking away at their deliciously large melting ice cream cones and you start drooling as well. This place offers homemade, unique ice cream flavors (among tidbits of other items like coffee and smoothies). Our group tried a smorgousbord of flavors (Wood's Cove Praline aka Butter Pecan and Raspberry Almond & Bourbon aka exactly what I just wrote). All the flavors were nice and flavorfully delicious. The affogato by far stood out as the star, in my opinion. Their expresso ice cream with that shot of espresso was super yummy. Minus one star: The customer service is horrendous. The lady was in such a hurry to serve everyone (even though no one in line seemed like we were in a hurry and there were maybe 6 of us total in line), if you didn't rattle off your order, she legitImately rolled her eyes and moved onto the next customer; it was like a life and death roll of dice with her. They recently switched to their Summer hours so open until 10 pm. The line during the day can get pretty long so both times I have been here, I came after 8pm. First time I got the ginger ice cream. Sooo good! The next evening I came back and got the matcha almond in a waffle cone and it was amazing. All the negative reviews seem to focus on the lady with short hair. Fast forward a few days and long story short, we came here EVERY DAY of our trip and my only regret is that it wasn't open before we left the island on our last day there. Ive been on an ice cream kick and have had my share of treats over the past couple of months ranging from store bought ice cream, to a DQ blizzard to our local speciality ice cream shop Molly Moons and I can honestly say this was some of the best ice cream I've ever had. Everything we had was delicious, the Island Joy, Cookies and Cream, the oatmeal cookie one, and chocolate mint but the one that literally blew my mind was the Four Winds Chocolate Peanut Butter with Sea Salt. It was the perfect amount of chocolate to peanut butter to vanilla ice cream ratio. I would come back to Orcas just to be able to have another scoop. The ice cream and waffle cone were wonderful! The service needs work. The help barely spoke and when they did it was barely audible. There was no greeting just a stare. My husband understands the service industry and tips well unless service is completely horrible. He tipped well even though the service was not great and the girl behind the counter just flipped the check out screen around and didn't say anything to my husband. She decided to pay more attention to the girl walking in that she knew and may also be an employee there. I know it is hard to get people to work, but if they are employed they should be willing to learn how to provide good customer service. The Ice cream was very good although the scoops are way too small for the price. Unless the guy behind the counter wasn't serving a proper scoop.
