So, The Bar @ Climb finally opened. We've been going to the Bar every week for 5 weeks now trying all the food. It's all good and the service is great. Also a little disappointed how expensive a margarita is - $15 for a small one. Pretty pricey for what you get with all the ice in the glass. Maybe 3 ounces. This place is pretty incredible, especially considering how remote the town is. Climb is absolutely as fine dining as you would find in any big city. The service is spot on and extremely friendly. The service people here are very well trained. My gin and tonic was fantastic. My Hub had an Old Fashioned that he raved about. We both had a trio dish that included fettuccine, shrimp and a beef filet. Not only was it beautiful on the plate, it was absolutely delicious. If you ever find yourself in Lake City, take your time and go to climb. You won't regret sitting in their lovely dining room with a fountain on the wall and letting your server pamper you. I was so so happy that we found this place! It was by total chance was looking for vegan and gluten free food in the small town on lake city which seemed to be hard to come by. I called to see if they were open after i had checked their menu online. They were. This is the type of restaurant that you need to call and make a reservation so be sure to do that! Our first time here our server Roz was VERY good! He went the extra mile and was above and beyond - myself and my friend were both very impressed. Our server the next night was not quite as good but he was pleasant but younger. I ordered a bowl minus the tortilla chips to make it gluten free. They also had some salad options but i wanted something more substantial after a day climbing 14ers. They kept the water coming which was good because we were parched! The restaurant was on the fancier side but the guests were all dressed casually. The host/hostesses were all extremely friendly. We were SO happy we found this place. Update. Been coming here for six years , every summer and without a doubt one of our favorite places to eat. I have eaten here dozens of times and it never disappoints. Great ambience with very good staff and service. Prices are consistent with food and service and the fact it is 50+ miles from any other upscale eatery. We have had almost every item on the menu and would order them again and probably will. The bar is surprisingly good and I strongly recommend you try the margarita or one of Jerry's other cocktails. I ordered the small steak filet and whipped potatoes and vegetables which was was very good night and cooked to order. The shrimp dish and chicken pot pie were really tasty too. Be sure to order the Elevated salad and cracker basket with the house made herb butter- delicious. The chicken tortilla soup was made with plenty of vegetables and tortilla strips. They were a nice compliment to the salad. We ordered the fettuccine Alfredo with beef. The beef was so tender and flavorful. The Alfredo sauce was very bland literally tasted like butter with a bit of cheese. It was so disappointing. I took a couple of bites and handed it off to husband. He likes it okay. My son took 3 bites and took the rest home agreeing that is was bland even for him! The next day he reheated it but it was worse the next day! Such a shame because I was sure the meal would be amazing. It fell flat. 09/29/19. The owner was wonderful enough to contact me. This place was so incredible! It was so beautiful inside and was definitely the elevated experience I was looking for while visiting town. The menu was pretty small, but everyone I was with ended up finding something they wanted. I got the chicken pot pie and it was the kind of warm dinner that makes you wish you were wearing fuzzy socks and sitting by a fire. It was fresh and flavorful and filling. Wow! Everything was fantastic! We are from San Francisco, and had low expectations for a small eatery in Lake City but were pleasantly surprised. We ordered the chicken fries, filet mignon, truffle fries, chicken pot pie and chicken Alfredo. The Alfredo was everyone's favorite, but each dish was wonderful. A lovely restaurant with a creative menu and very delicious food. This was our second visit to Climb Eatery and I must say, it was a disappointment. The food and ambiance were still top quality, but the service was not what I expect from a top-rated restaurant. The server for our table appeared to not have been trained to serve beverages. We ordered a bottle of wine. When the young woman brought the bottle to the table, she did not show us the label before she began her attempt to open the bottle. She struggled with the opener and eventually, my husband, a really kind guy, began encouraging her and instructed her how to get the cork out of the bottle. She filled our glasses and left. Our food was brought out and was delicious. The server came back to check on us and bring the check. I then stated that we would like to cork the bottle and take it home, but I didn't see the cork on the table. She said,"I've got it." and dug around in her apron pocket, produced a cork and crammed it, lint and all, in the bottle. We asked for coffee. She asked if we required cream and sugar. I said "Cream only." A few minutes later another server sat two cups of coffee on the table, no cream, and left without a word. I waited for the cream. The wait stretched. Finally, we just began drinking the now, not very hot, black coffee. Our server was busy with a group of 8 at the next table. On her second trip to the other table, I asked about the cream. I then asked a second time after she had served salads to the 8 top table. She actually huffed and walked away. When she returned with the cream, I said, the coffee is cold, can we just have fresh cups and a little cream to go. She left. A bit later she returned with one cup of coffee with a go-cover and a second cup, not quite half full. She explained, that was all the coffee but she had not charged us full price for the go-cups. Yes, we were charged $7 for the first coffee and a "reduced" price of $5 for the refill. This was on a check for $112. I had noticed a man who seemed to be the owner. I asked him to step over to the table. I showed him the half cup and he got in my face and asked if I could hear the coffee grinder, explained more coffee was brewing. I calmly said, his poorly-trained server had not offered fresh coffee. He glared and walked away. Fairly quickly, he reappeared with two hot go-to cups and then loudly berated me, saying although we appeared to have eaten in a restaurant before, were we aware that there was an employee shortage. I attempted to answer that we eat out daily and were aware that most restaurants did have openings, but this server was not trained to serve beverages and he interrupted me. By this point, he was in my face, asking if the food was good. I told him it was very delicious. Then he stated, loudly, "So you're going to let one cup of coffee change the experience?" and walked away. We paid, with our usual tip of 22% and left. Climb is truly the best food in Lake City, but next year, when we return, I'm not sure if Climb will still be our Friday dinner tradition. Our recommendation would be to get reservations at least a day prior or even more! They fit us in, after a large group had just left. Best restaurant in Lake City. You'll want to book ahead for reservations. This is a family run reservation husband wife team. The food is fresh amazing and homemade from scratch no short cuts. We came here for our 2 year anniversary and couldn't have been more impressed with this little Lake City gem. Being from Kansas City where fine dining establishments are a dime a dozen, we weren't sure if this little town could hold its own, boy were we surprised. The pot pie was so well done. Simple, perfect, delicious. I said when we left "if you're going to make something simple, make it perfectly." They did. The 6 oz filet was cooked exactly as requested and had an amazing flavor. The seasonal veggies and potatoes on the side were not only beautiful in regard to the plating, but so tasty. Now, the star of the evening was probably the grasshopper pie. Wowza. So good. The elevated smores were also awesome, but the bottom layer was a little hard to cut into and made this one a bit messy. My only constructive criticism would be to replace the pre dinner crackers with warm bread. Crackers are a little boring and I feel like this place could put out some heavenly baguettes instead. Chef-prepared meals are delicious here. We celebrated our 13th anniversary. I had steak, my husband ordered pork chops. They each came with a salad and a side. We drank water, as we usually do. Okay, let's get this out of the way first. This is an incredible restaurant and I highly recommend it. Everything I had was delicious. The food here absolutely rocks. The other key thing to know about this restaurant is that the staff is awesome. I met one of the owners, Jerry Johnson (his wife is the chef), and thoroughly enjoyed my brief conversation with him. My waiter, Louis, went above and beyond the call of duty to make sure I enjoyed my meal. He is a great ambassador for this restaurant. Many things were great about this meal. Louis actually suggested the house margarita, which was one of the most pleasant surprises. I typically don't enjoy margaritas, but this one sounded interesting. It's made with their house-infused tequila. They infuse the tequila with jalapenos and pineapples. Very nice mild bite to this very unique concoction. Jimmy Buffett would probably approve. So I started the meal with the charcuterie platter and it was a great way to kick things off. Nice selection of meats, cheeses, fruits, nuts and gourmet crackers. I followed that up with a cup of their chicken tortilla soup, which was a revelation. Chock full of veggies and chicken and a nice spice combo. For an entree I was going back and forth between the chicken and waffles and the chicken pot pie. Louis steered me toward the pot pie, and I'm glad he did. Billed as "Auntie L's Slow Simmered Scratch Made Chicken Pot Pie," this was a little bowl of heaven. The filling was savory and rich, full of chicken and veggies smothered in a delectable sauce. The pie crust covering it all was flaky and cooked to perfection. So good I have been craving the flavors ever since leaving the restaurant. I finished everything off with the "Elevated S'More," again at Louis' urging. This was a graham cracker crust, then a big chocolate brownie, then a huge slice of ice cream, all covered with toasted marshmallows. This was a crazy big dessert, and it was of course crazy good. Even the coffee served with my dessert was extra bold and flavorful. I snuck in on Sunday, July 3, before the crowds started gathering for the evening seating. They serve Happy Hour from 3-5 p.m. where everything is $1 off the regular menu price. This is a great way to introduce yourself to the pleasures of Climb. I definitely want to go back sometime soon for the full dinner menu, which is served from 5-8 p.m. (Happy Hour is on again after 8 p.m.) All of this is to say, Wow! I travel a lot, all over the state of Colorado, so I get to try out a lot of different restaurants. This is by far my new favorite, with Sagebrush BBQ & Grill in Grand Lake coming in a very close second. Hats off to everyone involved in making Climb such a wonderful experience. Everyone raves about the service-often an Achilles heel of resort area restaurants - but the reviews are accurate. Denise was our server and she smiled constantly and was perfectly attentive. Even the other server saw us on the porch looking at the menu and made suggestions. We loved the menu for lunch. I got the beef sandwich, my wife the Pot pie and our companions ordered burgers. I love this place so for many reasons! First, the owner might be the kindest human on the planet. He allowed us to take a last-minute fill after a reservation didn't show. Despite our dusty and worn-out appearances (just finished a big hike), a wedding party who was just arriving, being the only restaurant open right now, and minding COVID restrictions, he was so friendly in seating us and taking great care of our family. Our server and owner kept our classes full, provided speedy service, and likely presented the best meal we've had. Our server even made my kids lemonade, from scratch, after we didn't see it on the menu. Our family tried the fettuccini Alfredo, steak sandwich, chicken pot pie, and carrot cake for dessert.
