I loved their food , dropped in a lot to get takeout for many years . One evening a few friends and I went into the bar for a few beers. We noticed ladies sitting behind us who were making crab Rangoon and cutting vegetables . They were making drinks , taking money , wiping the counter top, then going back to their spots , no handwashing . We used the bathroom and the closet before it was open . I can't sing the praises of this place enough. Luncheon specials are so reasonable and satisfying. His wonton soup is the best I've ever had. The wontons in it are so silky and the filling is tender. The broth is perfectly clear and so flavorful. The special was generous enough that I have plenty to eat for lunch tomorrow. Over the past few years we will get takeout if we are staving and want something simple, do NOT expect anything other than bland flavorless American/Chinese food. Our first time to order delivery from Clinton Gourmet. We ordered a large Hot and Sour soup, Spring rolls, Orange Chicken, and Beef Chow Foon. We placed our order around 5:00 pm on Sunday afternoon and delivery was estimated at 30-45 minutes. It arrived at approx 5:25. The delivery man was very friendly. We expected enough food for 2-3 people, but there was enough for 4-5. The soup was steaming hot, spicy, and delicious. Spring rolls were crispy, Orange chicken was tasty with a nice spicy heat, and the beef chow foon was good. The irony of the name is not lost on anyone pulling up to this small windowless restaurant jammed in a dark ghost town of a strip mall. If you can get past it's no frills building shared with a dry cleaner you'll find there is a reason that this restaurant is busy and thriving while the rest of the business store fronts stand empty. They deliver, literary and figuratively. The kind, hospitable family that runs this place have a great attitude that creates a warm a friendly atmosphere that makes you feel like a regular. It's a relaxing experience the second you cruise into this place with your Tuesday "doing laundry" duds. I've eaten every single Chinese restaurant from Worcester to Lowell and this place dose it as good as any, minus the frills and the price that comes with it. The Crab Rangoon are full of real crab and come with a real homemade style duck sauce, not that horrible orange stuff. The soups are fresh and so cheap. They have all the classic American Chinese favorites, as well as some more traditional dishes. Don't be scared to order something that you don't have any idea whats in it cept thats its got chicken or beef. I love any of there dishes that are spice, listed in their menu in red. So if you can hang, sit in the bar / keno section with the locals. They will promptly get up from the one of the tables from snap'n string beans to take you order. Like others who didn't expect much, neither did we. To our surprise, this was a good meal. I tried the Egg Foo Yong, it was filled with yummy meats and veggies, served hot and delicious. I also tried the seafood basket, which is a potato basket packed with shell fish. The potato basket is not very good, but the seafood is fresh and tasty but the white sauce was dull, a little soy sauce made a difference here. The service was a little slow but once she showed up, everything was good. It's a quiet place on the restaurant side and we watched a dozen bags leave for takeout, so it's no secret to the locals. Probably the worst Chinese food I've ever had. I'm totally serious... and wait, is this a Chinese food restaurant or yet ANOTHER Clinton bar in disguise. I ordered the beef and broccoli, a spring roll and the general Tso (or Gau, who can remember). The breading on the chicken was soggy, the broccoli was obviously wilted before it had been cooked. The spring roll contained NO vegetables, greenery or anything else that remotely resembled spring. It should've been called a winter-roll. Or a depressing-roll. That would've been more appropriate. Don't ask me why I decided to give them another shot. This time I order the fried dumplings. I call well in advance and they say it will be 15 minutes. I give them more than 15, it was maybe 17 minutes out from the call when I arrived at the restaurant. I go inside to pick up and bring my toddler inside (anticipating a short wait, and a real restaurant). Instead, my dumplings were not even cooked and I had to sit in the foyer with my 2 year old picking ornaments of a moldy cobwebbed Christmas tree while drunks rambled in and out to play Keno. Totally not the type of establishment I would've felt comfortable bringing my child inside. Had I known this was another little dive watering hole I would've ordered elsewhere. (I should've anyways.) The food is always pretty good and for a decent price. I've never had an issues there. Drinks, like with most Chinese restaurants, are always awesome. A one and done for my light weight self like others have pointed out - there are quite a few "regulars" that officially have the bar stools molded to their tookus'. There's never rooms at the bar which is fine by me - kinda dark and sketchy looking for my liking. I usually get take out but the small handful of times I have dined in, the constant arguing amongst the husband and wife (& sometimes their mother is involved) which many times turns physical and is always in full view of the patrons, makes for quite an awkward dining experience . Thought this place was pretty good - again, kids working the counter!!! The girl at the desk was so nice and well spoken! I think she was probably 16, which actually isn't too too young (New China must have had a 13 year old boy working there!) This place was warm, clean and inviting to come in and pick up food. I'm not sure if I'd ever go there to hang out and get drinks. But I thought the take out was good. My veggies in my Kung Pao beef were crisp and delicious! My egg roll was wicked fresh... but greasy :( Tasted good though! The food was delicious. Cooked fresh and came out nice and hot. Lots of flavor but not too salty like many Chinese places are. The only downer is the service. The lady was super nice but really slow. She never came and checked on us or asked us for refills. I had to mention a refill even after she looked at my empty glass. We will be back but maybe for takeout read more

I called twice after they told me my delivery would take 1 hour... they told me that it was a Friday night and the food had not left the kitchen after two hours. About 75% of the time food is fresh tasty American Chinese - crisp veggies, doesn't seem to have MSG overload. Good hot and sour soup. When it's bad, food is super greasy, lifeless - like big quantities were made in advance, not cooked to order. The owners Joe and Katie are really nice people working really hard so we want to support this place. We often get the combo platters - take out or eat in. Very inexpensive. A note to reviewer Ayo T: When we eat in, we are the drunks at the bar playing a little keno. We think it is fun! I took a trip to the Clinton Gourmet yesterday with my husband and our son. I'll admit that I was a bit nervous because the last time I went there with a few friends, the service was awful. (Tip: don't go on a late Saturday night.) I have to say that my experience was better this time around... probably because of the time that we arrived. (Around linner time. Not quite lunch, but not dinnertime either.) When we arrived, there were a few cars parked in the parking lot... though I am unable to say how many people were sitting at the bar, the dining area was practically empty. And I lost count of how many times the phone rang for takeout orders. We were seated and asked what we'd like to drink in a timely matter, and the drinks arrived just as promptly. And it didn't take long for our orders to be taken. We decided upon some appetizers: boneless spare ribs, beef teriyaki, chicken fingers, crab rangoons, french fries (for our son. He's not really into Chinese food much. Only the fortune cookies. ;), and an order of pork fried rice. While I know that it takes a bit of time to cook the food, my son had a hard time waiting. After telling him that the food was cooking, he settled down a bit... but he was slightly fidgety because there wasn't really much for him to do outside of sitting in the booth, waiting patiently. (I should have packed some crayons and a small coloring book for him since the Gourmet doesn't offer anything like that.) I am unsure how long it took for the food to arrive after ordering, (I need to remember to wear a watch next time!), though it was long enough to finish a small drink. Our food arrived in twos: the beef teriyaki (6 of them) and the boneless spare ribs (a rather generous portion!) arrived first. The next dishes: the crab rangoons (oh my goodness, there was a lot..) and the pork fried rice (which was pretty much like a mountain) were served a few minutes later. A couple of more minutes pass and the chicken fingers (a pile of them, really) were placed on our table. It was around this time that our son was wondering where his french fries were. My husband and I wondered as well, and my husband made the joke that maybe the kitchen workers had to go to an outside source to get some fries. About five minutes later, the french fries arrived... however my son still had to wait because they were extremely hot. My husband and I looked at the fries, and thought how eerily similar they looked to McDonald's fries... and when I tried one, I was stunned. I swear that one of the workers went across the street to McD's and ordered a medium fry, then served it to us. My husband agreed. But at least our son was happy while eating his french fries. He said they were "mmm" and gave a thumbs up. The rest of the food wasn't bad, but it wasn't the best. The chicken fingers were a little more greasier than I expected; the boneless spare ribs were fairly good but some pieces were too fatty; the crab rangoons and beef teriyaki were very good, and the fried rice was decent. We couldn't finish it all, so we had the rest placed into boxes to go. When we received our bill, we were a little shocked at the price. But now that I'm writing this review and thinking about what we ordered, everything was probably ordered as a large because we didn't specify on the sizes. (Though I know that there are some items on the menu that don't have sizes...) Overall, I do enjoy this restaurant, and the food, and will be back again in the future. read more
