Also known as "The Cookie". This is a great place in town for inexpensive and great tasting food. The dining room is fairly quiet - most people get take out or hang in the bar/lounge area. The food is served hot, fresh, and in large proportions. Katie and Joe (the owners) are very friendly and always make your dining experience a pleasure. There are a lot of regulars at the Clinton Gourmet and it is nice to hear people being spoken to on a first name basis. read more

Perhaps the best Chinese food I've had in New England. All of their sauces, from the duck sauce to the lemon glaze on my chicken was fresh and homemade. The fried rice was well done and not greasy and the staff was friendly and helpful. The location is offbeat, but well worth the stop or the takeout. :) read more

Great chinese food, period. It is our place we will now go every time after moving into the area. Every time I am in there is always people getting food and the awards on the wall speak for themselves. I even have to give credit to the young man taking phone calls friday night. It was a crazy rush and he was running the two phones by himself. Once one of them stopped ringing he had to pick up the other one the entire time I was in there waiting. The owners, husband + wife were NOT business friendly. The order for pick up had a missing dish when arrived home to sit down eat it. I brought the receipt in to show them for a credit. They refused to replace it, based on our not having phoned in to tell them, like all the other notes from other people taped on the wall-more screwed up orders. The customer is always right, but since we were wronged, we will no longer be customers. The place is a dump, anyways. read more

Such a shame We have been going to Clinton Gourmet for over 15 years and it has been in a downward spiral for a while, tonight will be our final meal here. The place is looking so rundown and seedy, and the dinning room is turning onto a storage space for canned goods, soft drinks, paper goods and whatnot. We ordered Egg Rolls, which were filled with nothing but grease and cabbage. The Peking Ravioli were OK devoid of flavor, the Chicken Moo Shi was acceptable, but the Crispy Black Pepper Beef was another experience entirely! Soggy with not a trace of crispiness, no pepper flavor at all and the vegetables consisted of celery, a couple baby corns and some tiny straw mushrooms pieces all congealing in a cornstarch paste. There was no detectable hint of any flavor whatsoever, probably the worst Chinese meal I have ever had. Really is too bad because up until a few years ago Clinton Gourmet was OK for takeout or a basic Chinese/American standard fare. At this point I just hope we don't get sick tonight. R.I.P. I've only had vegetable fried rice and egg rolls here. Those are hard things to ruin, but they just don't do them very well here at Clinton Gourmet. Everything was overly greasy and the rice had a very strange taste. I don't think I will be rushing back. read more

My husband and I have been going to this restaurant for a few years. It is really the only game in town. Last night was it for us. The last time we went the food was so dry and the rice was wet and just gross. Last night my husband and I got a takeout .... He came home and the order was wrong. I called them immediately and the owner argued with me and told me it was correct. In addition to getting the wrong order they also put in a large order of some noodle dish which we never ordered. We always ask for extra hot sauce... We got none!!! The owner needs to learn business skills. And there is a young boy taking orders, running the register that gave my husband some lip a few months ago. Really? We'll travel for that once in awhile craving. Really surprisingly good Chinese food for its 'backwoods' location. The comments on ambience (there isn't any, unless you're a Keno player) are correct though -- we mostly do takeout. I couldn't give it 5 stars as a destination restaurant, though the fact that it's usually pretty empty can be convenient if you want a private conversation, or read a book with lunch. It is cheap too -- only a few of the Special Dishes top $10, and portions are generous. Our favorite item is Wonton in Hot Sesame Sauce. But all the standard dishes are done just a little better than the Cantonese-style places I used to go to in Cambridge and Boston, in my more urban days.. I never noticed this place until I saw it recommended on the Web -- it's in a "pork chop" mini-mall set back from the road with a smallish sign -- and I regret that for years we were driving farther to get less good and more expensive Chinese food. read more

I used to eat here before moving back to nyc. I decided to eat here when I came down for memorial day, wish I hadn't!! The food was so bland. The chicken a broccoli was watery. The rice was bland! My boyfriend lived in china for 5 years so he knows the real deal, but even he cuts the chinese food a lil slack in the US since it is American Chinese. Well he thought it was thee worse chinese he has ever tasted in his life lol There's too many other great places around. Step it up guys! read more

This place isn't worth it. I say this while waiting in the closed dining room going on 2.5 hours since placing my take out order. I don't care if the food is good, it can't be worth the hassle. There are literally kids working the ordering only adults are in the kitchen. Scary. read more

Every time we order to go they leave off part of the order but charge us for what they left out. We don't live in Clinton so it's a hassle to go back and so we always get screwed. The only negative thing I can say about this place is it is the dining room is often a snooze fest. On a slow night it is eerily quiet and the muzak and tacky pictures on the wall don't do the food justice. That being said everything I've ordered from here over the past few years has been fresh and delicious. This place is a staple of the Clinton landscape as far as takeout is concerned. Food and drinks were poor as was the service. Had a MaiTai, PuPu platter and fried rice. MaiTai was 85% ice and 15% drink, very weak. On the PuPu platter all the items were very greasy. The pork strips were mostly fat and gristle. The egg rolls were cold in the middle which leads me to believe they were frozen at one time. Chicken wings and teriyaki were dry and greasy. Fried shrimp/chicken fingers were fair.The worst was the fried rice which we had to ask for 3 times and came 20+ min after the platter, very overcooked, mushy and tasteless. Waiter asked how everything was and I told him the platter was greasy and the rice was overcooked and his reply with a sarcastic laugh was "I don't think so" That did it for me. Needless to say he paid for the fried rice with his tip... The kitchen may have had an off night but there is no excuse for "server sarcasim" Would not recommend. read more

If you are looking for Somewhere family friendly with great good to go out to eat this is the place. The food is the best Chinese food I have had and for a good price. If you're looking for mediocre food, tasteless decor, and surly, uncaring owners, this is the place to visit. A recent Saturday night visit to this bland establishment resulted in the presentation of the worse pina colada drink mixed by master bartender "Joe", Joe was the bar tender, waiter, host, and possibly the chef that evening. The appetizer plate ordered that evening was much less than appetizing. The chicken wings were overcooked, They were dry and tasteless, and based on their appearance and "flavor" seemed to have been emersed within a cauldron of less than pristine cooking oil more than once. The boneless spare ribs also vied for the worse entree that evening during this disastrous gastronomical experience with four diners. After leaving late that evening we returned to the scene first thing the next day to share our displeasure of the quality of the food served that night. We had taken an order of chicken wings to go for our son. The wings were near inedible, greasy, dry, and encrusted with multiple layers of cooking oil. Our conversation with the female owner quickly became confrontational. She asked "Why you no tell us that night? She wasn't listening to our explanation related to the take out situation late that night. She offered to replace only half of the order (the balance was already in the garbage disposal at home) . After a ten minute debate with the female owner of the joint, over the quality of the food served that evening, along comes co-owner Joe from the kitchen. Joe proceeded to insist that the wings served that night were good and not out of the ordinary. After yet another five minutes of nonsensical discourse over chicken wings, Joe stormed out and back to the kitchen to perhaps prepare some more delights for his customers. I was flabergasted by her horrible attitude, rudeness and demeanor. I can;t believe that a competent owner of a food establishment would question and challenge a regular customer of theirs over four chicken wings that were collectively considered awful by five people. Yes, four chicken wings, with a cost of ~$1.38, well worth the challenge to lose five customers. . This most unpleasant Sunday noon experience finally ended, without an apology that five regular customers were unhappy, when the dragon lady refunded us $7 for the food. Before we left this establishment, the female owner asked for our telephone number so that the next time we ordered, we would be reminded to check the contents being served before we left. She needn't worry as there is zero chance that we will be patronizing this joint any more. Unbelievable! Any potential restaurateurs would be well served to visit this joint and see what NOT to do in serving and retaining your customers. Gotta love the name Clinton "Gourmet". Bring along some Tums. We frequent the Clinton Gourmet on our Chinese restaurant rotation! I very much enjoy their wonton soup, it's my favorite of any restaurant. Our family usually gets chicken wings, a platter, or peking ravioli for an appetizer. We also love a lot of their dishes. Their Singapore style rice noodles (or the equivalent, I'm unsure of what the menu says) are great and we also love the kung pao chicken (it may be chicken with peanuts on the menu, I can't remember!). This should be considered for take out Chinese food only as the the seating area isn't worth visiting. The food is very good an definitely the best in the area. I usually go with the Kung Pao chicken and the General Gao's. The kids like the sweet and sour chicken and the crab rangoons. If you live in the Clinton area then this is the place to go for take out. read more

Love! The best part is the horrible atmosphere filled with "Clintonians", people from Clinton. It makes for a fun and entertaining experience. When they are cooked right, ive been in a few times to grab a few drinks with my boyfriend and they cut us off after 2 drinks, Mind you they were Not that strong and we paid cash with tip And it was like they were scared to serve us even though we both showed ID and are well over 21.... My first few experiences with Clinton Gourmet were pleasant. Unfortunately, this last time was quite different. Myself and a friend came in and were greeted by a woman( presumably the wife of the owner/ co-owner). We intended on sitting in the bar area, however it was quite full. To ameliorate this situation she sat us at a table that they clearly were using as there own personal table as there was an open peanut butter jar on the table, as well as various half eaten fruits in containers. We decided to give them slack as it was busy, and ate in anyways. The food was great as usual, however, when the bill came we noticed the prices were different then the menus they gave us. Rather than apologizing, the woman proceeded to go get another menu that had corresponding figures to this on the bill and said this is the new menu. Mind you that we had already consumed our meal that we had ordered from a different menu. We expressed our concern and the woman refused to make accommodations to rectify the situation. She then began talking fast with her husband while pointing at our table and flailing her arms. It amazed both of us that she took zero accountability for misinforming her customers, This experience alone will deter me from going here any time in the near future... read more

My girlfriend and I LOVE this place. We get takeout here about once a week. Food is always from good to excellent. Staff is really friendly. Reasons for not giving a 5 star: dining area is not the most... elegant (hence the takeout) and food it not always excellent (sometimes just good.) That being said, I have no intentions of eating here any less. read more
