I rarely leave reviews as I'm too lazy unless the experience was hands down 10/10 or horrible 1/10. This salon (Tracy) was 10/10 personally for me because: 1) Everyone is super nice 2) Offered me something to drink (they have wine!) 3) Most importantly Tracy cut my hair actually to what I wanted! She even Googled for example photos herself to share with me. I also dyed my hair and my head is at last 1 uniform color/shade. Will definitely be my go-to from now on. read more

Lovely little spot!! My mom had went before me and loved it, and after my cut I also love it! Tracy did an AWESOME job with my vague descriptions and pictures of what I wanted, lol. I once was the type of guy who found it hard to get his haircut at a...salon. I was worried that I'd lose my man card if I didn't get my haircut at a traditional barber shop by a mustache-sporting man named Gene who smelled of cigars and/or aquavelva. I felt that way for years. Whenever I'd pass by a salon on the street, I'd close my eyes, speed up, and try not to imagine what it would be like to have my hair awkwardly washed by a stranger in a sink or to have my hair cut while middle-aged women talked about going into menopause (these were seriously my two biggest fears about salons). But that all changed when I found Clip Art Hair Design. While it is a salon tended by women stylist only, it never gives off the feeling of your mother's old beauty shop or a pretentious high-end salon. The salon is decorated with funky, cool touches left and right (bright colors on the walls, a chalkboard greeting sign, retro-style waiting chairs) and there's always great tunes playing (arcade fire, radiohead, talking heads, etc). It gives off the vibe of a cool hipster hangout, rather than a traditional salon, which is very approachable and comforting. For the guys, they'll primp and pamper you if that's your thing (eyebrow tweezing, hair gelling, etc), but if you're an ordinary guy like me who wants a good, stylish cut without all the bells, whistles, and hair goop, then they'll do that for you, too. I don't know anything about women's hair styling (can't you tell?), but all my friends who go there love their cuts. I always come away from there loving my haircut, too, and now that I'm a regular I feel comfortable talking about styling my hair with my stylist. I really am a changed man because of this place. I go to Liz, who is the owner of the salon. She's always upbeat and funny, and she knows everything you need to know about Fed Hill (seriously this woman has found me an apartment and a plumber). Her stylists are also great. Whenever Liz is out of town I pick whoever is available and I always like my cut. Last but not least, the best part about this place is that they offer you a beer whenever you go in. If that doesn't make you feel like a man, then the tanning bed they have there probably won't either...but they do have good tanning rates for the ladies as well. read more

I admit, I am an avid Yelp user when it comes to making decisions, yet I NEVER actually write my own reviews. Well today it changes because hair is serious business. I just moved to the area and finding a new stylist is terrible, which is why I haven't had more than trim done in over 2 years. Liz seriously made my day. I can get my hair cut again! We cut 7 inches plus and I'm so happy with the results. I'm also happy about the real advice she gave me as I was deciding whether or not I wanted to go for bangs (i.e. where my hair naturally parted in relation to my cowlick, how much work it would be to keep them ruly, etc.) All really, really, no seriously, really appreciated. It makes a difference. Will definitely be going back, and will probably have to make haircuts more of a regular thing again. read more

I've been going here now for several years and am very pleased with both the pricing and consistency of my haircuts. I go to Annie and she's great. She listens to what I want and is honest with whether that can be done AND whether I need more hair cut off due to damage. She really listens and then adds to it to ensure I'm happy with the results. Appointments are on time (though I do like to go early so can't speak to p.m. appointments). They offer you something to drink as well which is a nice touch. Only thing is, parking is really tough some days so be sure to allow enough time (if not walking) to find parking and then walk back to the salon. read more

I LOVE this salon and I'm super picky about my hair. The owner still cuts hair there, and she is amazing. Liz (the owner) is who cuts my hair, and she is one of the few people who can cut it the way I like. They listen to what you want and do it right. The decor is really cute and trendy. I moved to Baltimore a few years ago and was having a tough time finding a reasonably priced salon to do highlights/low lights. I lived in Riverside so wanted to try some place in the neighborhood. I tried another salon close by and hated the work they did. I literally paid over $200+ for just coloring and left the salon in tears. Although the salon 'tried' to fix it, I vowed never to go back. So I was traveling back to DC every few months to get my hair colored at a great/reasonably priced salon but I thought it was ridiculous to have to drive all that way just for a hair cut/color! Luckily, I found Annie at Clip Art Hair Design! She does a great job with my highlights/lowlights. The first time I went to her, she actually did the best lowlights that I've ever gotten - I loved the color! It's also very laid back at the salon - not uptight or anything! I was super happy with my color, and it was great work at a great price! I'm glad I finally found a good salon in the neighborhood that I don't have to pay an astronomical price for color! read more

I have been a "salon whore" most of my life. Trying this salon, trying that salon. Trying the high end salons and the hair cuttery salon's, too. No matter where I'd go the cut and color would be fine on the first visit, maybe... Then on the second visit it would be a disaster, finding myself "in search of" again! A friend told me about Clip Art. I have passed the salon hundreds of times and thought since it was a low key place in South Baltimore it just had to be a place where Grandmother's got their hair permed. WRONG!!! With all of the other salons offering the sizzle and the glimmering lights and whacked out music playing loudly and all the "stylists" dressed in black and looking hip, Clip Art is a warm no-frills ALL STEAK salon!! Their sizzle is in the talent! The talent that is at this salon doesn't need to snare their prey with the trappings of a hip NYC/LA-style salon. The ladies at Clip Art are real, down to earth women that are kind, warm and welcoming. Oh, and yes, they do offer you something to drink when you walk in the door without all of the pretense from the aforementioned NYC-style wannabe's! The talent? What can I say? I have been a steadfast client for over two years. NO MATTER where I may travel...whether I'm at Bergdorf-Goodman in NYC or Target in Towson I am constantly asked "where do you get your hair done"? In all my years from hopping from salon to salon I can tell you that I have never received so many compliments on my hair, from the style to the high quality color/highlights. When I tell people where I have my hair done they look at me with disbelief?? "You mean you don't go to NYC to get that style/color"? HA, I say!! Check out Clip Art Hair Design on Ft. I am new to Baltimore, and finding a good hair stylist is difficult. I found this salon with all of its good yelp reviews, so I booked an appointment by email. I have a strange hair type: it is thick and wavy. In order to be cut properly, it has to be flat ironed first, or the cut will fall the wrong way. I specified this in the email, noting that the website listed flat ironing as an extra $10. After arriving, the stylist I was booked in with was surprised when I asked her to flat iron my hair; she obviously hadn't seen my email or been given any information. Here's where it gets tricky. I have short hair. It barely touches my shoulders. It takes 10 minutes to straighten. So Jamie straightened it for me and then cut it. She did a pretty good job. It was an okay haircut, but nothing special. So when she took me to the register to pay at the end, she rang up the haircut for $40, which was what I expected. She then turned around and asked the receptionist quietly how much she is supposed to charge for hair straightening. The receptionist responded, 'anything between 10-20 dollars.' So then, bearing in mind that my hair is short, not long... Jamie added on a whopping $20 to my bill. I mean, honestly. Surely it is a better investment to try to gain a long-term customer, not to scare them away by blatantly overcharging for something like hair straightening. Yes, there is a perfect stylist. Since going to Jaime I have compliments on my hair all the time. People say wow I love your color who does it! If I dont know what exactly I want to do she is there and I trust her in doing what she thinks and I always love it! Never before would I let anyone just do what they want ;) She is the sweetest too! Visited for the first time today. Got high & low lights from Jamie, plus a cut. The place was easy to find. Definitely a home-y feel. Down to earth, fun girls. The color turned out GREAT! I love it. I have naturally mousy-blond hair that had a variety of highlights and processes done to it prior to arriving at Clip Art. Jamie did a great job with the high and low lights - blending all my mix-matched colors into one cohesive look. Very pretty. Also asked her to cut about 1" off my hair and freshen the layers. Did a great job on that as well. This place isn't "fancy" per se, but the girls know what they're doing, that's for darned sure. Looking to go back when I need my color redone. read more
