I went there with 9 of my friends to celebrate one of our friends engagement hours prior. we had a reservation. one of the newly engaged spilled her wine on the table (nerves on edge), and instead of graciously telling her not to worry about it, the waitress made us all feel bad, after we all apologized profusely. She didn't once reassure us. at the end of the meal, which was over $300 for all of us, she carefully reviewed how much tip each of us had left her. Then, without a single word (have a good night, goodbye, thank you), she walked off, never to return. UNBELIEVABLE. We were visiting on a camping trip, this dinner was supposed to cap off our vacation. Instead, it put a damper on the whole thing. I went in to let the manager know, just in case she wanted to be aware, and all she told me was "this isn't an excuse or anything, but we DID do 350 people today..." Are you kidding? Please don't charge $20 for a $9 meal, then reprimand me because I expect DECENT service when I make a reservation and spend $300 on dinner for 10 people. and that's not including tip, of which we left $65 because we all used to be in foodservice at some point. If you don't want to be nice to people, don't work in the service industry. We paid this waitress a lot of money for her to treat us like crap. Never going back. I'll eat a breakfast sandwich at Bella's in downtown Clayton on the water with excellent service for $6 before I'll ever set food in this hole-in-the-wall with awful decor ever again. My wife and I have been to the 1000 islands a few times now, We happened upon this restaurant by accident. Well what a pleasant surprise! The service is first rate! The staff is as friendly as could be. But the real attraction is the food. I am a seafood lover. My wife and I always try to sample different things on the menu each time we go and have NEVER been disappointed in anything. I strongly recommend this place to all and if you go on a weekend you might want to make a reservation it gets very busy. read more

My previous review was for the motel at Clipper Inn, this review is for the restaurant. My husband and I had dinner here this evening, and we found everything about our experience here to be outstanding. Upon arriving we were warmly greeted at the front desk by the hostess. Our server Diane was wonderful, very personable and attentive, and made great suggestions to help us with ordering. There was another server (I apologize for not including her name, I am awful with remembering names) who also brought us dishes and was very nice as well. The food was absolutely delicious!! Everything - the bread brought out as a starter, the house salads- so good- shredded carrots, cabage,olives,peoperoni, lettuce,onion - so much more than the usual lettuce,tomato, and cucumber of most restaurant salads. Homemade dressings too, I had the creamy garlic, hubby the creamy horseradish - both very good!! We had a seafood pate appetizer - very tasty and so different - highly recommend! For dinner I had Boston cod Oscar - cod baked perfectly topped with crab meat, asparagus and bernnaise sauce- the flavor was awesome, so good!! My husband had the nightly special - a seafood pasta with a delicious sauce flavored with capers and olives - no skimping on the seafood either - beautiful shrimp and scallops!! He absolutely loved this dish, I tasted it and it was great. We split a piece of cheesecake with a light raspberry sauce - hands down the best cheesecake I've ever had!! So creamy, and the raspberry sauce was to die for!! I can't recommend this restaurant highly enough- for a terrific restaurant experience, the Clipper Inn is the place!! read more

Impressed with the quality of the food and the creativity of the chef. A fun and lively atmosphere in the bar which serves the full menu. The inn itself has been updated since we were here last. Nice improvements such as flat screen TV. The owner clearly takes pride in his inn. Staff is friendly. Loved the bartender Mitzie. read more

Our family comes here every year when we vacation at Black Lake. This year, there were seven of us. Every meal was well prepared and delicious. We had everything from frog's legs to crab legs and lots in between. The appetizer highlights: the chicken liver pate, the bacon and mushroom ravioli. I had the rack of lamb special and it was fabulous. Service was terrific and the drinks were good sized. We especially liked the pomegranate and espresso martinis. Not a cheap evening but well worth the price. Oh, and don't miss the Napoleon and the coconut cake. read more

My husband and I wanted someplace to go for our anniversary dinner in the area that we could kind of dress up, so after looking at all the dinner options in clayton this seemed the most fitting. The food was good. We started with a goat cheese souffle with figs which was okay not as flavorful as I anticipated based on the description. I had the shrimp scampi which claimed to be the best on the menu, it was good..but not good enough to claim "the best" title. My husband got the chicken cordon blue and was fairly impressed. Again the flavors were good but didn't have that wow factor. Overall atmosphere was great seemed to be a lot of locals around. Also they have a pretty fun range of cocktails to choose from which was great. Back to attire, we were overdressed, not that we looked ridiculous but that we could have tone things way down and been fine. Many were in just shorts and tshirts. read more

We go to the Clipper every year when we are in the area and have never had a bad experience. It is definitely our favorite restaurant! The special menu changes every week and has such interesting appetizers and dinners from around the world, all the different places the chef visits throughout the winter. We love all of the bartenders, and are really enjoying the wine specials and specialty cocktails this year. Eating in the dinning room is perfect because we can go in for a casual meal or a special event and the staff take care of whatever needs we might have. Just a fabulous place to eat. read more

We had a wonderful dinner for four. First, I recommend you have reservations in the summer. The restaurant is very large but when we arrived at 7:30 for 8:00 reservation, the waiting time for those without a reservation was over 1 hour. We did not even finish our predinner cocktail when we were escorted to our table. Note the tables are close together and it can be loud. Our dinner began with a small loaf of freshly baked bread served with butter or garlic infused oil. The salads were generous and included iceberg lettuce, carrots, olives, tomatoes,tangerines. They offered many different homemade dressings and we enjoyed our choices. We all ordered different main courses. I had the lamb shank, it was served hot with mashed potato. Excellent! The others in our group had shrimp scampi, fried perch and scallops. Finally, I had escargot as an app and it was the best I had in years. We all plan to go back soon. read more
