I cannot speak highly enough of my experience ordering a board from Glenn. Glenn is a master shaper and surf legend, but still maintains an amazing customer service mentality. I put in a general order and the next day he called me on the phone and spent a lot of time talking with me and working out exactly what I was looking for. I am a big guy 6'3 230lbs., so I need a special board. Glenn took the time to ask questions, provide feedback and suggestions, and help me understand what would work for me in the conditions I planned to ride it. A week later just before he shaped my board, he called me again. He had some more questions/concerns and wanted to make sure he got everything just right. Through out the entire process Glenn stayed in contact and followed up after the board was delivered to see how it was riding. Needless to say, the board is magic. I've been riding his boards ever since I was a kid--and I kid you not, every single board from him is absolutely incredible. He's one of the very few shapers on the island, and in the world, who still shape by hand, which makes the fact that his boards always turn out amazing even more impressive. He is the nicest guy, so knowledgeable about his craft, and will be able to get you the perfect board that you are looking for, regardless of your skill level. He can shape for anyone!! While he is known for his short boards, don't underestimate his longboards either--they are SO FUN!! He knows how to shape a board that noserides like a dream, but that you can throw around like a shortboard. I have probably gotten over 10 boards from him (my family has probably gotten well over 40 in the past 10 years) and we have loved them ALL! That's so hard to find with shapers. I've now had a total of 4 boards shaped by minami in the past year, they came super fast and super dialed in. So stoked on every board ive ridden. Uncle glenn minami is a super helpful and awesome guy, he really knows his stuff. Glenn has a wealth of knowledge, so if it's your first time ordering a custom board he'll help you dial in your dimensions and make sure you're getting exactly what you want. I live in San Diego and my board arrived in perfect condition w no dings or scratches from shipping. After riding it for several months it's become my favorite board in my quiver. Aside from the board feeling amazing, my favorite part of the whole experience was talking to Glenn after riding it. He really appreciates feed back and it's nice to have a shaper who is always trying to improve his craftsmanship. Psyko works very good. I think Psyko is the best board for Japanese medium beachbreak waves in the lineup of Minamisurfboard. Of course each one is excellent but Psyko never stop even though on powerless wave. At first we could make super fast takeoff like fun board. And we never loose the speed at both bottom and top sections. Furthermore the turns are very smooth without stumbling. I love cool this board Psyko. Thank you Glenn! Aloha. to put it simplest my Minami boards are awesome let's start with how my boards paddle it's known that Minami boards paddle great catching waves is no problem and I think it's the way he balances everything out a true master. Performance wise unreal go as hard as your abilitys allow you. I surf better now in my 50s and been doing the best surfing of my life and I know 100% it's my surfboards. Price wise best in town. If you know Glenn Minami you know that positive energy goes into every board he shapes and he shapes a lot of em by hand. I have been surfing for more then 10 years. Have gone through 5 surfboards. Channel Islands, FireWire surfboards, Mayhem and Lib Tech boards. My experience with Minami was great. It was my first time ordering a custom board. Mentioning where I surf the most and what kind of board I currently use and how I wish to do with my next board. I was thinking of getting the F-2 but speaking with Glenn and I wanted a standard surfboard he suggested the F-1 model. The board took about a month to make. It felt great under my arm. Within the past year, Minami shaped me a 7'6 pipe/sunset board. This board surfed like a dream at 8ft sunset and avalanches.
