Had the day off from work today (7/14/2026) and wanted to try someplace I haven't tried before so I ended up at Close Harbour Seafood. Was immediately welcomed with a friendly smile and grabbed a seat at the bar. Ordered a Long Island Iced Tea and a Strawberry Honey Lemonade. Both drinks were prepared by my bartender/server Michelle and were perfectly made. Side note...her eyes are mesmerizing. Ordered a Clam Chowder, steamed mussels (in white wine sauce), and Bam Bam Shrimp. All three came out when appropriate and were absolutely delicious. I was a little hesitant about seafood so far from the shore, but every dish was incredible. Between Michelle and the other server, Chelsea, I couldn't have had a more entertaining meal. Was looking forward to full belly clams my friend ordered a fried shrimp,calamari plate.I had clam chowder it was very good.The breading on the fried clams I did not like the tarter sauce tasted odd the side of Cole slaw also did not taste good the French fries were good.Apparently there are people who like this restaurant since there were quite a few people there but not for me or my friend.Our searver did a good job but won't be returning. read more

This used to be our favorite spot for great seafood - but not any more! We recently had a reservation to dine inside on a busy Sunday afternoon. Our friendly server brought us water and iced tea and took our orders. 45 minutes later we were wondering if our appetizers would ever be served - 6 oysters on the half shell, calamari , and a Signature salad. When the calamari arrived , we found the food on the bottom of the plate was quite soggy, the top portion lightly battered, and not hot. We had to ask for marinara sauce. Our entrees were then served 1 1/2 hours after we sat down. My husband's haddock was dry, tasteless, and cold. I ordered swordfish tacos which were delicious. Unfortunately, the long wait for our food to arrive had dampened our appetites! Both our server and the manager on duty were apologetic, but did nothing to encourage us to return. Gone are the days when Bill Close would visit at tables to make sure all was going well, or his daughter would wander amongst the diners checking on meal satisfaction. Will we return? Close Harbour seafood is a small unassuming restaurant in a shopping strip mall. They have a wide selection of fresh seafood in market attached to the restaurant and plenty of outdoor dining. They are busy all hours of the day and there's a reason. The seafood is super fresh and delicious. There is an extensive menu of everything from creative appetizers to sandwiches to phenomenal entrées. The restaurant is clean and well organized. Our waitress was super attentive, efficient and helpful. There's plenty of parking right in front of the restaurant. We are looking forward to trying many more items on the menu in the very near future! read more

I went here for lunch today. One of my companions ordered linguine & clams. She said it tasted off, so I tried a sip of the broth. It tasted foul, and sour. When we brought it to the server's attention she shrugged it off and said it was the lemon in the broth. Thankfully we weren't charged for the dish, but I would have hoped a seafood restaurant would have taken something like this more seriously. read more

Get the bellies in my belly! When we wanted to get some lunch, we remembered this place that we had been meaning to try. It looks nondescript from the outside but it's legit. We had really friendly service and a nice table inside. Then the food was top shelf for seafood. Whole belly clams with old bay fries is just my perfect dish that screams summer in New England to me. The swordfish tacos were huge! So was the tuna melt. Overall portions were huge and I loved that the food came out piping hot and fresh. Lots of love from the kitchen. Went for lunch on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. Sat outside on their covered patio. From the patio you'd never know it was located on a busy street. Our server Anna was wonderful-very friendly and attentive. Had the fried clam strip platter with old bay fries and cole slaw. The clams were lightly breaded, crispy and not at all greasy. If you are a seafood lover Close Harbour is worth checking out. On left side of the restaurant is their market. Besides selling fresh seafood, they also have items like seaweed salad, salmon burgers, crab stuffed mushrooms, stuffed shrimp, claims casino,and much more. On the right side on the restaurant is for patio dining. They started us off with Italian bread and their house made cornbread. My wife ordered whole belly claims with coleslaw and a side salad. I had the fish and chips. Both meals were excellent, their coleslaw and cornbread were delicious. Good size portions, and the service was excellent. read more

This place such a nice surprise!! My mom really loves baked stuffed shrimp so the goal was to find a local place that does it well-- This was a good option! It was a little bread-heavy than others we've had but it passed the test nonetheless. I think they recently renovated (within the last few years). The decor is pretty minimalist and clean. My husband and I were looking for a seafood lunch spot. We stumbled across this place on Yelp. They have a series of #1 awards in their store front window (which is always nice to see) You can't help but notice the fresh seafood department. I will say that I plan on returning for some fresh seafood one day and will take it home to cook it. Now onto my review of lunch: I was honestly rooting for this place, but to start off my lemon drop martini stopped at least an inch down the glass when served to me. Not to mention I had to ask for simple syrup because it honestly tasted like lemon juice and Tito's. We ordered the seafood combo off the appetizer menu. What you see here in the pictures is what you got and this was priced at $20. I don't mind paying for good food as long as I feel like the restaurant isn't getting over on me. Unfortunately, this restaurant gave me that feeling. We received 2 oyster Rockefeller's, 2 casinos, 2 shrimp cocktail and about 3 maybe 4 ounces of fried calamari. And we had to add salt and pepper and a bunch of lemon wedge juice, which is never a good sign. The breading was very light, which I did not mind, but flavor was definitely lacking. I will say the marinara sauce for the calamari was very good! Onto the main course, my husband and I shared the seafood combination platter. I will say I was very pleased with the freshness of the seafood! Unfortunately, we barely got enough! $32 for 3 shrimp, 3 scallops and one 4 ounce piece of fish. They put the seafood on top of the truffle fries we ordered when I tell you the soaked up all of the oil and grease we didn't even eat half of it because they were so greasy. The parmesan truffle fries really lacked.... TRUFFLE?! And where was the Parmesan cheese? A lot left to be desired. I'm also not a fan of folks using dill relish in tartar sauce. Sweet relish should be used to balance the flavor. Service was decent, nothing special. The bartender doubled as our server. The overall feel of the place gave a small town, mom and pop dive bar that caters to a much older crowd. Try it for yourself if you want. read more

We decided to stop at Close Harbour because we heard very good reviews. We started with the steamers as an appetizer they were so juicy and larger than expected .The bartender also served Italian bread and the best (cornbread )and butter. I ordered the seafood combo with scallops and sweet potatoes fries the seafood was so fresh , definitely was enough food I couldn't finish it. It was nice to bring home a doggy bag. The atmosphere is a casual seating. They also have a seafood market attached to it, which is very convenient . We decided to sit at the bar, but they do have a very large patio for outdoor dining. As fresh as it gets. Date of Visit: 10/9/22 Stopped at Close Harbour while on a road trip from RI to NY. I went out of my way ~30 mins to get my seafood fix, and I'm glad I did! I started with the Rhode Island Clam Chowder, which was ok, but made me wish I'd stuck with orthodox New England, or their Combo Chowder (NE + RI). The star of the show was the fried seafood combo platter, which was 14/10. I went with Shrimp, Fish, and Whole Belly Clams -- which you *CANNOT* skip when in this area. Everything was fresh, beautifully battered, and fried to perfection. My only semi-gripe would be on the fries, which were a bit soggy. That said, I would absolutely go out of my way to visit again. read more

My diver scallop entree was underseasoned and served on a mushy sweet potato and sausage hash. A creamy risotto would have been much more complimentary. I actuallly ordered the fried bay scallops after not being thrilled with my original choice....thay at least had a litle more flavor. My wife loved her cooked snow crab legs. Our server was excellent and very knowledgeable and attentive. The restaurant is very clean and tastefully decorated. I went here with my husband for lunch on 1/15. We ordered the lobster bisque and calamari as well as their California wrap and swordfish tacos. The wrap and tacos were fine (plenty of swordfish!) but the apps were awful. The soup came out at room temp and the calamari was room temp and soggy. Welcome to the great stuffed shrimp taste-off of 2021!! In search of the best stuffed shrimp in the area to serve on Christmas Eve, I posted on various Facebook pages to solicit recommendations. Of course, I can't trust just trust strangers on Facebook, so we did what any self respecting Yelpers would do...we did a trial run of five spots over a two day period, ordering 4 stuffed shrimp from each. We sampled them plain, with lemon, butter, and cocktail sauce, critiquing the size, quality of the shrimp, taste and quality of the stuffing, and overall value for the price. With, of course, photos of both the raw starting point and the cooked final product. Close Harbour was our last stop. A few people suggested it, and we were already in Southington, so stopped in. Close Harbour is both a fish market and a sit down restaurant. The market side was clean (in both appearance and smell!) and there was a good selection of fresh seafood as well as side dishes and soups. The stuffed shrimp looked great and was $5.99/each, one of the more reasonable in our sample. We also decided to add on 8 cooked/cleaned cocktail shrimp ($26.99/lb), some soup and one stuffed clam. We started with the cocktail shrimp, good in size texture, and flavor, all 8 perfectly cleaned. Stuffed shrimp was good in size, and the way it was prepared also set Close Harbour apart. They had it butterflied and flattened (like a triangle shape), which was perfect for cooking, because it sat flat in the pan. All the others needed to be propped up to stay upright so that the stuffing would brown. Shrimp was decent size but not too large, and stuffing was flavorful. It had the buttery flavor my husband was craving and the seasoning I was craving, without being fishy. These stuffed shrimp were excellent plain, or with lemon, butter or cocktail sauce. I guess we saved the best for last, because Close Harbour came in at #1 out of 5 in the great stuffed shrimp taste-off of 2021! It was the hands down winner in taste, at a reasonable price. We liked it so much that we went back the very next day for some scallops and the lobster twice baked potato that I wished I got the first day. Oh, and to place our Christmas pre order, of course! Close Harbour's lobster rolls are great but I think the clam chowder is even better. Sure, the rolls are pricier than other places but the ambience inside is amazing at night. I think that makes up for the price discrepancy. The cozy seating makes it feel more like a family than a restaurant. Though it didn't seem like there's a ton of seating, so I'd imagine seating a large party would be difficult. Nevertheless, they know what they're doing here, from the food to the service. Hi, Wanted to share another view on a local CT town seafood restaurant/fish market (Close Harbour Seafood/Fish Market) Plantsville, CT I've only had food from the restaurant but the seafood you eat is right out of the cases in their fish market. I've had the fried seafood combination platter and on another occasion I've had the hot buttered lobster roll. Both meas were very good. One your eyes view the photos you will want to jump in your car and go. LOL Oh I'm not sure if I've shared with you but I travel with my own Frank's hot sauce. Not sure why restaurants in CT only have Tabasco sauce. Must be my 'snobby' NYC self. LOL They have good parking and they also have cute outdoor seating. I did get to meet the owner while I was their to share with her that my meal on each occasion was very good. Do I remember her name no...I'm OLD. One of the best fish and chips I have ever had all around. The fish was just fresh, meaty yet lightly fried and battered, served so hot when I picked it up it was nearly burning my leg in the car. The french fries were the perfect size with an excellent coating on the outside and when you squeeze that lemon on everything it seriously just brings out the life of this meal. That tartar sauce cooled everything down while providing that extra fatty goodness that I always wanted. I closed my eyes and saw nothing but the ocean. I was mentally impacted by these fish and chips. It was just so perfect that I wanted to quit everything I've worked so hard for right there. You know why? I got it for such a good deal too, there was a fish and chips special out that day. I was treated way too good by this meal. Never been so happy to burn my mouth with fish and cool it down with lemon juice and tartar sauce. I was never the same after this meal. We couldn't be happier that Close Harbour is only 10 minutes from our new home in Connecticut. We frequently take our out-of-town guests there for an authentic CT seafood meal, and have never been disappointed. The fish is always perfectly cooked and fresh--after all, they have their own seafood market next door. We love the lobster rolls, though pricing is toward the high end for the market around here. The fries are served hot, crispy on the outside, and creamy on the inside. I prefer the Old Bay fries, whereas my wife goes for the truffle parmesan. Cocktails are unique and tasty, and they have beers on tap, not just in the bottle. Service is friendly and attentive. The atmosphere is modest, but inviting, with pretty seaside photos on the walls. The complimentary cornbread is a nice touch, but I find it sweet, crumbly, and its crust too dark (quibbling). The tartar sauce is made with bread-and-butter pickles, making it too sweet. Our waitress advised that next time, we can request fresh tartar made with dill pickles. I've heard Close Harbour described as "the best seafood for 30 miles", and I don't doubt it.
