Fresh clams, lobster meat and shrimp
    Dan R.

Driving home on I-84 in October, we noticed a highway billboard for the Gulf Shrimp Company. I couldn't remember seeing it before, but maybe that's just an indicator of memory loss by yours truly. So anyway, I bookmarked it and we popped in today for some New Year's Eve dinner goodies. When you walk in, you'll see a freezer case to your left with bags of shrimp, calamari, containers of soup, etc. On the right you'll see a long showcase with great looking fresh shellfish like shrimp and lobster and scallops and clams. Further down you'll see some great looking fish fillets of every color under the sun. There's a big blackboard over the fish counter that lists the day's fare and prices. Pricing is expensive, but the quality makes it worthwhile. We picked up a pound of cooked lobster meat, a pound of cooked shrimp and a jar of cocktail sauce for $72. The lobster was superb- huge chunks of tails and claws with zero shell, zero cartilage, zero veins. It had a wonderful clean taste. The shrimps were excellent too- we ended up with 18 to the pound, so they were pretty good sized. They were super fresh and plump and delicious. New Years Eve dinner at home was shrimp cocktails and some homemade decadent lobster mac and cheese, check out the photos. The young lady who filled our order was pleasant and cheerful and answered a few questions about the spiciness of their assorted cocktail sauces so we could choose appropriately. Gulf Shrimp Company is conveniently located close to the Marion Avenue exit. If you're passing by or live in the area, it's a pretty solid choice.

    Lobster Boil Bag Special $19.99
    Mich R.

First time getting food from here and I couldn't be happier. I saw the Lobster Boil Special advertised for $19.99 and had to get it. I placed my online order, choose cooked or uncooked (I chose uncooked), I arrived at the designated time and picked it up. It was super easy to boil myself and tasted great. It was so worth the money and I will def be back again to try some soups and other seafood. Highly recommend!

    What I got

So I ordered 2 lobster bake bags because of the picture showing what is included. The picture with the bag is what I received, focus on the potatoes, they are the size of a quarter. I paid $80+ I am beyond disappointed!!!! I could have made these bags myself with more in it for less. Probably doesn't matter but this is the last time going to Gulf....NOT WORTH IT!!!!!

They share a funky space with New Curds on the Block cheese shop in an old brick mill building. We climbed a rickety wood staircase in the back of the building to get into the shops. Don't enter through the front of the building or you'll end up in a karate dojo. They sell super fresh fish and shellfish - Atlantic Salmon, Yellowfin Tuna, Black Sea Bass (MA). Blackfish, Sardines, Pink Shrimp, Scallops, Soft Shell Crabs, Steamers, Littleneck Clams, Gem Clams, PEI Mussels, and Crab Cakes. You can order online and pick up at their Oakville Shop, Bantam Farmer's Market, or Washington Depot Farmer's Market. We swung by yesterday and had a hard time deciding what to buy. I was tempted by the soft-shell crabs because I never had them before. But ultimately, I chickened out and went for three of their big crab cakes. They were $7 each and worth every dime. They weighed in at 4 ounces and were PACKED with crab meat and very little breading or filling. A few minutes in the air fryer at 350 and they were as good as any I've ever had. As I said, they share retail space with the New Curds on the Block cheese shop (after all, the two owners are married), and after we bought the crab cakes, a wedge of Dutch Knuckle cheese, a tin of smoked mussels, some addictive Maple Toffee Almonds, all of the purchases rang up on a combined receipt.

The shop's name refers to an idiom that is used to express something being completely full. CONCEPT: The shop provides a curated collection of seafood, and associated seasonings, to Litchfield County. LOCATION: To the Gills shares a second floor corner suite with a cheese shop and knife sharpener. The suite is located in a building that long served as the site for Seymour Smith garden tool manufacturing. AMBIANCE: The shop is decorated with many unique items, such as an old cash register and oven. Tremendous windows line the time-worn brick walls of the former factory which had been built in the early 20th century. FOOD: The shop sells custom poke bowls and prepared chowder, crab cakes, and seaweed salad for quick meals. Shellfish, fin fish, smoked fish, and seafood seasonings are also sold, including uncommonly found fish such as parrot fish. SERVICE: Service is friendly and knowledgeable. TIPS: To the Gills also sells through the Washington Farmers' Market during warm weather Saturdays. There is no seating in the building, but there is a gazebo with two outdoor dining chairs and a side table in the parking lot. Neighboring Steel Creek has a bench overlooking the bridge. There is no elevator in the building. The second floor can be reached via an outdoor ramp that stretches across one side of the L-shaped building. To the Gills periodically serves raw oysters at neighboring Lasting Brass Brewery. Check the brewery's event calendar. To the Gills occasionally arranges informative events at the shop. In November I participated in a caviar tasting event in which eight different fish roes that are sold at the shop were featured and their provenance described. Follow the shop's Instagram account for future event announcements. A cheese shop (New Curds on the Block) and blade/knife sharpener are located in same suite.

It's probably the only real fish market in the area where you can pick from a dozen different kinds of whole fish. They offer squid, king crab, shellfish, and live lobsters and crabs, which is great. The fish always appear to be fresh. and they will clean them for you. I always grab some Snapper and crabs while im here! In regards to the other review on here that said something about them purchasing bad fish.. i cant speak for your experience, but you should know how to pick out a good fish at a fish market. And if you're driving over an hour home in the middle of the summer, make sure you're prepared to store it. Just an idea.

Particularly during the holidays, where he is talking about how to prepare your holiday meals. Second, my friend from New Jersey is probably the Duchess of Stew Leonard's and I had to see what this was all about. Here is my story It's like going to a Trader Joe's if you're on the West Coast, BuCees if you're on Central and southeast part of the country or I don't know I suppose a typical local giant supermarket. Here are my observations. They accommodate the local people they have so many things you can do with your children. If you're shopping in the store, they have mascots and different games you can play. The store is clean and organize organized There are many local products, they support the local community Would I go back? Probably if I lived closer, I would love to buy their vegetables which was very neatly displayed and priced. They were busy! That says something right?

They have their own wine and liquor store, plus a grab-and-go, buffet-style area with fresh, hot food. There is also an ice cream station with cotton candy and strawberry soft-serve, which is delicious. I especially love the cone cups because if the ice cream melts, it doesn't drip all over you. One of my favorite parts is the selection of pre-prepped meals you can take home and throw right in the oven, like Chicken Cordon Bleu and stuffed chicken with spinach and artichoke, along with many other options. It makes dinner so much easier. The only downside was that the avocados all seemed very overripe, so those probably aren't the best thing to buy here. Other than that, the store is well stocked and easy to shop in. I also really appreciate that they have real checkout counters instead of only self-checkout. The employees are friendly, helpful, and the service is good. Prices run a little on the higher side, but if you look around, you can definitely find some decent deals. Overall, it's a convenient and enjoyable place to shop, especially for the pre-made meals and family-friendly atmosphere.

Upon arriving we'd realized we'd eaten at this restaurant before (when it was in a different location) and eaten in this building before (when it was a different business). Caesar salad appetizer was excellent. Kids Mac and cheese was maybe one of the best Mac and cheeses we'd ever had, kids or not. And it was great as a pizza topping. My wife and I split a wagyu burger and The Craft Pie. The burger we believe we got someone else's, it was missing the espresso aioli and prosciutto jam. It wasn't until we finished it that we realized it was way different than we expected. The pizza was excellent however. I could have done without the pears but so many other flavors that were excellent, though the real winner was the sour cherries. I'd come back again just for this pizza.

As I walked through the front doors, I noticed kegs alongside on the floor. This was kind of a turn off, kind of reminds me of a dive bar. So my mentality kicked in that we were going into a dive bar serving food. I kinda get the sketchy feeling. Once we were seated, and menus placed, we were served iced water A few minutes later, the server came back and took our order. My friend ordered a cheeseburger with lettuce, tomato, and some string french fries. I ordered the 1/2 smoked chicken, which came with two sides. I chose the rattlesnake beans and the creamy macaroni and cheese. Also include included was cornbread I originally wanted the street corn, as a side, but it was not available. Our lunches came quick, and my friend only ate half the french fries and cheeseburger, as she wasn't really turned on by them. The smoked chicken was fairly dry, with a very interesting smoked flavor to it that I can't put my finger on. I eat about 1/3 of it. Left the rest on the plate. The creamy macaroni and cheese was out of bounds top-notch. I could've eaten this all day. The rattlesnake rice and beans were just OK. The rice was cooked pretty good, and was seasoned well. The beans had a weird taste. Now thinking of this side dish, I was hoping for raw onions to be on top, but they were nowhere to be found. It'll be nice if there was chopped raw onions to go with this. The cornbread was delicious. I ate about half of it. It was a generous slice. While the server was fairly attentive, as she only checked in to fill the water glasses and ask how lunch was. She didn't ask us if we wanted a desert or coffee. Being old folks this would've been a great up for us, but it didn't happen. I had to ask for the check. I'm not sure if I would come back. I think this might be a one and done. The vibe just didn't hit it for me. Restrooms were clean. The restaurant was clean; the silverware clean. I don't know. It just was like a funky type layout and those beer kegs kinda sent the wrong tone to me as a guest. Lunch for the two of us was $40 and change and I left a $10 tip. We didn't have any cocktails or mock tails, we didn't have coffee or dessert either. From what I understand, the owner was near the exit when we left, not even a smile or a thank you for coming in...
