Great seafood shack located inland!! Gives an oceanfront vibe in central CT. Small location so - small staff but we came on a weekday lunch and staff was friendly and efficient. The food was tasty and executed well. Definitely the best seafood shack in the area - by far!! The breading the light and not too heavy which was very appreciated. The soup was delicious and filled with seafood and some veggies. Great New England clam chowder. Next time I will need to try some non-fried items. But will be back.

Recently visited The Blue Lobster with some of my family and it was a nice experience. We arrived on a Friday around 5:30 pm and there was only one other group dining in but the dining room was fuller by the time we were leaving. Service was friendly and efficient. Our orders came out fast and were hot and fresh. I usually don't like battered fries but these were pretty good. I enjoyed my fried shrimp dinner and everyone enjoyed their meals. I also got a lobster roll dinner to go and it held up well for the drive home. They gave a nice portion of lobster and I appreciated that it came with fries and coleslaw. Most other places don't serve sides. Would return for sure.

Some family was visiting from other areas and wanted some local seafood last minute. We called around to a few places that were booked but Blue Lobster said no issue. Most people had either lobster rolls or some sort of fried seafood. All was decent and portions were large. I think the favorite thing I had was the corn and clam fritters, though wish I hadn't eaten all my clam chowder before they came out.

I was super hungry and was looking for a quick bite in the area and this place caught my eye. It's a cute little seafood shack with indoor and outdoor seating. I opted for indoor seating and you order at the table. I saw someone else opt for outdoor seating and the ordered at the cashier and the staff brought the food out to them. The interior of the restaurant definitely had a nautical theme going on. I love lobster rolls and lobster bisque so of course that's what I ordered. I got the CT Lobster roll (hot buttered) for $24 and you can add the lobster bisque on for $6. Not really a deal as the regular price of the bisque is $6. The bisque was super disappointing. Wasn't even lukewarm and it was very salty. However the lobster roll was delicious and the fries were so fresh and tasty. Totally redeemed the meal. Service was fast.

Cute little hole in the wall on the Berlin Turnpike. Don't drive too fast, You'd miss it. Place is very small, clean, beach vibes, staff were very nice. Went on a Thursday 1cent crab cake, which was nice. Food came out quick, ordered jumbo hot buttered lobster roll. Was a little surprised on size as I thought it would be bigger for 44 dollars, But was delicious. Would still return especially for the shrimp platter.

The fried clams (whole and strips) were AMAZING!! I went there for my birthday on 4/4/25. I never had whole belly clams before, and they brought me out a free sample!! Soooooo nice!!! I love the little resturaunt layout as well. So homey. Lastly, my grandmother told them it was my birthday. Then, i was surprised with a FREE fat slice of carrot cake (10/10!!!!) and so much whipped cream and they sung to me!!! Thank you soooo much!!!

I wish every person who buys fresh seafood, could truly know the story of Saybrook Seafood…read more It's a classic .......This place is owned by a woman from a family of fourth-generation, CT Shoreline fishwives...Fishwives, a term sometimes used as an insult...but when it comes to fresh seafood, is the highest compliment/assurance of quality and local knowledge. I don't know how many generations of fishing are represented in this family, but I do know that the quality and freshness of their fish reflect every generation... I'll make it simple.... -Saybrook Seafood knows every clammer, oysterman, fin fisherman, dragger, trawler, tuna hunter, long-liner and lobsterman from Clinton to Point Judith. -Atlantic seafood knows every wholesaler from here to the Fulton fish market. -Saybrook seafood chowder recipes have been honed for generations. I know because when I was a kid (I'm 65) the clam chowder I relished is still made exactly by Saybrook Seafood..right down to the perfect consistency of the potatoes, not too firm, not too mushy... -Atlantic seafood has a wide selection gathered from all over the fish world.. -Old saybrook seafood has a much smaller selection because, with very few exceptions, if it isn't available locally, it isn't in the case... -Sea scallops are from Day Boats.....Tuna is from Point Judith.... -hard calms are from local clammers -oysters are from third generation oyster farms, farmed to taste like oysters...not hybrid, cross-bred, designer-named lab-rats... -Steamers are from Maine -Stuffed shrimp is a simply-seasoned, perfectly-balanced, third-generation recipe that honors and enhances....without flavor-masking, the main player in the dish... -Herring is from an old local guy -smoked fish is from a different old local guy -Shad is from yet another old local guy -And most of these old local guys...are part of the family... Get the picture? In short Saybrook seafood is the tip of an iceberg....an iceberg of colorful local history....the watermen of CT and Rhode Island, who have made their living catching and digging and knowing local seafood for generations.... ..who still think marketing means foodshopping....and for whom quality, freshness and cleanliness are not a state requirement, or even good business, but a simple issue of family pride, and unbreakable commitment to honor family traditions that will never, never be forsaken....

Unfortunately, the woman helping my mom was incredibly rude even snapping at her several times when she asked a question or tried to move the butcher paper to see the weight of the fish on the scale. I am aware the store was very busy at the time my mom was in, but this is so incredibly unacceptable and I am disgusted that we just spent so much money after being treated that way rather than walking out. I tried to call the store several times today to voice my upset over the phone directly rather than leaving a poor review. No one has answered and there is no answering machine. We will no longer be customers at Saybrook Seafood.

Available parking is pretty sparse, be prepared to either wait or park on the grass. Customers all over the place, the shop is very small. Folks in line out the door. They have a nice little prepared foods fridge and a small freezer with assorted items. After a short wait I made it to the seafood case. Bob the owner was extremely polite and very helpful, offering help and suggestions for my selections. I picked up large sea scallops, ahi tuna, Scottish salmon, blue crab salad and some smoked salmon. All very tasty and as fresh as it gets unless you catch it yourself. But, be prepared to pay a premium price for any seafood bought from Cold Harbor. The nice lady at the register noticed that I was a Veteran and said they give a 15% Veterans discount on some, not all items with proof of service. VFW card, VA medical card, etc. which was awesome and made my overall experience even better! Bottom line is I'll be back to Cold Harbor for all my seafood needs. The quality of their products and great service is definitely worth the price!

They share a funky space with New Curds on the Block cheese shop in an old brick mill building. We climbed a rickety wood staircase in the back of the building to get into the shops. Don't enter through the front of the building or you'll end up in a karate dojo. They sell super fresh fish and shellfish - Atlantic Salmon, Yellowfin Tuna, Black Sea Bass (MA). Blackfish, Sardines, Pink Shrimp, Scallops, Soft Shell Crabs, Steamers, Littleneck Clams, Gem Clams, PEI Mussels, and Crab Cakes. You can order online and pick up at their Oakville Shop, Bantam Farmer's Market, or Washington Depot Farmer's Market. We swung by yesterday and had a hard time deciding what to buy. I was tempted by the soft-shell crabs because I never had them before. But ultimately, I chickened out and went for three of their big crab cakes. They were $7 each and worth every dime. They weighed in at 4 ounces and were PACKED with crab meat and very little breading or filling. A few minutes in the air fryer at 350 and they were as good as any I've ever had. As I said, they share retail space with the New Curds on the Block cheese shop (after all, the two owners are married), and after we bought the crab cakes, a wedge of Dutch Knuckle cheese, a tin of smoked mussels, some addictive Maple Toffee Almonds, all of the purchases rang up on a combined receipt.

The shop's name refers to an idiom that is used to express something being completely full. CONCEPT: The shop provides a curated collection of seafood, and associated seasonings, to Litchfield County. LOCATION: To the Gills shares a second floor corner suite with a cheese shop and knife sharpener. The suite is located in a building that long served as the site for Seymour Smith garden tool manufacturing. AMBIANCE: The shop is decorated with many unique items, such as an old cash register and oven. Tremendous windows line the time-worn brick walls of the former factory which had been built in the early 20th century. FOOD: The shop sells custom poke bowls and prepared chowder, crab cakes, and seaweed salad for quick meals. Shellfish, fin fish, smoked fish, and seafood seasonings are also sold, including uncommonly found fish such as parrot fish. SERVICE: Service is friendly and knowledgeable. TIPS: To the Gills also sells through the Washington Farmers' Market during warm weather Saturdays. There is no seating in the building, but there is a gazebo with two outdoor dining chairs and a side table in the parking lot. Neighboring Steel Creek has a bench overlooking the bridge. To the Gills periodically serves raw oysters at neighboring Lasting Brass Brewery. Check the brewery's event calendar. To the Gills occasionally arranges informative events at the shop. In November I participated in a caviar tasting event in which eight different fish roes that are sold at the shop were featured and their provenance described.
