Thick n loaded Fried clam strips. The batter was excellent the clams were very tender and their double dipped fries are light n crispy. The steamed cod was very good. The food was tasty and executed well. Definitely the best seafood shack in the area - by far!! The breading the light and not too heavy which was very appreciated. Recently visited The Blue Lobster with some of my family and it was a nice experience. We arrived on a Friday around 5:30 pm and there was only one other group dining in but the dining room was fuller by the time we were leaving. Service was friendly and efficient. Our orders came out fast and were hot and fresh. I usually don't like battered fries but these were pretty good. I enjoyed my fried shrimp dinner and everyone enjoyed their meals. I also got a lobster roll dinner to go and it held up well for the drive home. They gave a nice portion of lobster and I appreciated that it came with fries and coleslaw. They were honestly one of the best appetizers we've ever had. I was super hungry and was looking for a quick bite in the area and this place caught my eye. It's a cute little seafood shack with indoor and outdoor seating. I opted for indoor seating and you order at the table. I saw someone else opt for outdoor seating and the ordered at the cashier and the staff brought the food out to them. The interior of the restaurant definitely had a nautical theme going on. I love lobster rolls and lobster bisque so of course that's what I ordered. I got the CT Lobster roll (hot buttered) for $24 and you can add the lobster bisque on for $6. Not really a deal as the regular price of the bisque is $6. The bisque was super disappointing. The fried clams (whole and strips) were AMAZING!! I went there for my birthday on 4/4/25. I never had whole belly clams before, and they brought me out a free sample!! Soooooo nice!!! Rather than go to the shoreline which is what we always do when we wantto get lobster we decided to take a chance with The Blue Lobster on the Berlin Turnpike on our special day. As we entered this place we were surprised it was nothing more than a hole-in-the-wall that also serves as a popular seafood market frequented by regulars. The walls are adorned by simple décor and we were greeted by a friendly staff member. The menu was typical of any seafood shack. We ordered the hot lobster roll which was served with hot butter and it came with cole slaw and a huge pile of French fries on the side. The lobster roll was scrumptious and it hit the spot. The price was reasonable too. The staff went out of the way to make sure you have a truly great experience without being overbearing. On the way out to make our special day even more memorable our server (who introduced herself as the Manager) packed up delicious desserts to take with us and enjoy later. It was a perfect ending to a festive day and I wanted to write this review as my way of saying thank you because they deserve it for a place that has been a fixture in Berlin for decades. (Last visited 7/21/2021.) I ride past this place ALL the time heading to various places since it's located right on the southbound side of the Berlin Turnpike. Bae said we needed to try this place "someday". Today is that day... here's how it went... Atmosphere/Appearance: Like I mentioned earlier, this place is set right on the southbound side of the Berlin Turnpike for everyone to see! There's a decent sized private parking lot and round driveway with 2 entrances/exits for convenience. There's also a lovely outdoor section lined with umbrellas to hang out at during the warmer months. The inside offers a bit of an "at sea" or "at the pier" type of vibe with lots of light colors, light woods and white walls. It's fairly straightforward though. I wanted to take my food back to the crib with me so I ordered to go. Service: Pam took care of me and she was awesome. She was really sweet, answered all of my questions with confidence and just made sure I had a good experience even if it was a short one. Food: So I got Bae and I 2 Jumbo CT Lobster Rolls with side orders of sweet potato fries. The CT lobster roll is one that's served warm and with melted butter. That's the ONLY way to go! None of that cold mayonnaise lobster salad stuff. (That's called Maine style at this restaurant.) The lobster rolls also come in 2 sizes. Regular and Jumbo. Now I don't know weights, amounts or anything like that, but I can tell you that the sandwiches we had were STUFFED with lobster. The sandwich was so heavy and lobster was just spilling out all over the place whenever I took a bite! It was deliciously warm, juicy, fresh and just incredible. Lobster rolls really are a treat whenever I get to have them. The sweet potato fries were okay, but for what they costed they should've been better or at least come with some sort of dipping sauce to complement them. But... for how much this meal costs. I can't eat there every day. Value: Alright... ready for this? This is the single most expensive sandwich I've ever purchased. The total for 2 jumbo lobster rolls with sweet potato fries was $90.17 after taxes. Wow. Just, wow. That's fine-dining prices right there. So let's back up a bit. Before taxes it was $84.00. FOR TWO SANDWICHES AND FRIES. Lol. Let's back up some more. Sweet potato fries are an additional $6.00 per sandwich. So subtract $12.00 for that total and now we're down ti $72.00 for 2 freaking lobster rolls. That "MP" on the menu will get you. Lol. So, $36.00 for the juiciest, warmest and pretty damn delicious lobster roll is a bit steep, but... that's why I don't do this everyday. Lol. To each their own. In conclusion, I kinda went on a bit of a tare there at the end, but the food is worth it. It's just a bit of sticker shock and yes, I knew what I was paying before I placed the order. I forget how wonderful the fried oysters are at Blue Lobster. They are fine as take out but so special if you take the time to eat there. The friendlness of the waitress adds to the experience. The rest of the seafood is also good. It is always fresh and still tastes good as leftovers the next day; although obviously not as good as when first served. It was such a mixed experience! The woman running the place was energetic and on top of things. Ambience was similar to Long John Silvers. Iced tea didn't taste anything like tea. It tasted like burnt toast. Lemonade was from a powder mix which was disclosed. No beer or wine options. NE clam chowder was unfortunately disappointing. Not a well developed flavor, too thin. Coconut shrimp was delicious! At $2/ea it was overpriced for the size of them. The fisherman platter was enough for two to share and had more fish, shrimp, and clams than fries which is appreciated. I didn't try the fries, but my family liked them. The CT lobster roll had a satisfying amount of lobster which was flavorful. It was served on an overtoasted hot dog bun. Rhode Island chowder is the perfect comfort food for a cool spring night, so rich, and I've keep returning to that instead of New England style. I've lived within 5 miles of Blue Lobster for over 13 years, but I've never eaten there . . . until this week. Why? Two reasons. One, my wife and son don't like fried seafood. The second reason is best explained in . . . a gratuitous story. About one year pre-Pandemic, I was playing poker at MGM. A Harvard student was tutoring a Yale student in how to play poker at my table. Nice folks. At dinner time, the Harvard guy called a restaurant on the other side of the casino and ordered fish and chips for the two of them to share. They got up a bit later, and I said, "See you in an hour or so." The guy responded "No. We'll be back soon. I ordered it for takeout." As they walked away, I whispered to the person next to me, "$750,000 of combined education and they can't figure out hot fish and chips gets soggy when it stays in a closed container?" I later watched as they pretended the moist fish and chips were outstanding. Moral of the story - fried seafood does not travel well. Since my family doesn't like fried seafood and it's not my favorite takeout option, I need a solo dining night for fried seafood. I found such a night this week. My experience with Blue Lobster was mixed. Some restaurants, on some nights, have a bad energy. That was the case from the time I called in my fish and chips/fried calamari combo until about the time I finished eating. In fairness to Blue Lobster, it seemed like they were dealing with a couple of challenging customer experiences, but unfortunately, I had to listen to the interactions as I waited for them to take my phone order, as I waited to pay and as I sat outside eating. I suspect that's not a common occurrence, but it wasn't enjoyable for me. In addition, I don't know if there is some sort of exercise studio in the area behind the Blue Lobster, but they were cranking out the type of music you would hear in a spin class, and that set a bad tone as well. The lightly battered fried fish, which came in a few smaller pieces, was fine. The fries, which were medium thick and lightly battered, were slightly below average for me. The creamy well shredded cole slaw was very good and had a nice celery seed flavor. The calamari was a hot mess. I'm not sure I've ever had smaller calamari pieces in an order from any place. The calamari itself was tender and had good flavor, but the batter didn't properly adhere to many calamari pieces and it was too salty. The marinara, on the other hand, was too sweet and I didn't enjoy the flavor. It improved slightly when I added salt. In the end, I ate all the fish, most of the larger pieces of calamari (the salty batter to calamari ratio was too imbalanced for the smallest pieces) and about a third of the fries, before my desire to be away from the spin music exceeded my interest in the food. The Food was 3 Stars for me, but it was really a 2 Star experience given the issues with the other customers and the loud spin music. I'll go with 3 Stars for the review since there were some factors outside Blue Lobster's control. read more

This is a one and done for us. We were looking forward to this. Two (very) small lobster rolls, two chowders, a fried combo, and two sodas= over $130. The lobster rolls were nothing special the rolls weren't the typical NE style nor were they warmed up. The Rhode Island chowder was bland with a dearth of clams. Only taste was an overriding sourness as if they added vinegar. Fried platter also tasted sour. Very greasy. You could see the oil pooling all over the paper they serve it on. Service was friendly but they close at 8:00 and we felt rushed to get out. In summary we should've gone to a real restaurant for $45 per Person.
