He's tag line, is that he's "Your Consultant for as Long as You Own the Property". Sounds great, but after few months into our new home, I contacted him regarding a new problem in our home. He said he'd take another look to help us diagnose the cause, but beyond that e-mail, he dropped the ball, and it's been over a month, and multiple e-mails of me asking him, no word, I'm very disappointed. He also didn't mention anything about a large tree that's adjacent to our home that over extends onto our roof. A landscape designer came to consult and pointed several major reasons why we wouldn't want that tree there (property damage, rodent, gutter, etc. issues.)

Ken performed an extremely thorough inspection, classifying issues as natural to the age of the building or cause for worry. It was clear from interacting with Ken that his knowledge extended beyond cursory surface level understanding that only comes with years of experience. 1 year after the purchase, I noticed a cigarette smoke smell in my unit and asked Ken to inspect. He was unable to identify the issue. Instead of taking full payment, he insisted on me paying him only half. A few months later, I called Ken up again for another small problem, this time, he identified the source of the cigarette smoke and suggested a resolution. My only constructive feedback- which perhaps helps explain the negative comments you see below- is Ken is so thorough that he likes to give homebuyers the complete sense of a situation, beyond an inspector's advice (which feels more like a wise family member's advice) on every feature of the home, and that can come across as irrelevant to the professional obligations of a home inspector. At times, I felt like I was being "schooled" which is not necessary. He was up front with me that if a customer wants to keep it to just the essential inspection only, instead of the more thorough advice on every page of the report, to let him know this when you start the job and he'll trim his inspection back in depth without compromising his professional work. I think setting expectations on the time the appointment is the responsibility of the client. Ken's naturally curious and fully interested in your success at home buying so I felt he was genuinely doing his best to mitigate any disappointment or surprise after purchasing the home. I needed a home inspection in a pinch (1 week turnaround) and in a new area that I haven't lived…read morebefore. Doing a web search, Metro was one of many home inspection companies that had a straight-forward website and online booking. However, what set Metro apart from the others is that they listed the available days and time slots that they had inspectors available. They even had the name of the most probable (subject to change) inspector to make the appointment. That was important because I knew when the home we were considering was available to be opened, and I could quickly line up a day/time that worked out for both sides. After the appointment was set, I was called by one of the staff. She called to "talk me out of" the radon and pest inspection services (extra charge) because of the type of home and area it was located, those services were not valuable. The cherry on top was that for the month, they were giving a "gold" discount on the overall cost. Inspection went as planned and I received the final report by the end of the same day. I never had to state that I needed a quick turnaround, but I get the sense they knew based on the dates of our real estate transaction. Just superb service, and really made me feel I could not get as good of a service with any of the other inspection companies I was considering. If we ever buy another property in the metro Boston area, I'm using Metro 100%!

The inspection was very thorough, and Tod took his time to ensure he didn't miss anything that could cause issues down the road. The resulting report was delivered in less than 24 hours after the inspection, and Tod prioritized the issues based on criticality/safety so it was clear which repairs needed to be done promptly and which ones could wait.
