The absolute worst customer service.. seriously the worst ! Installing my closets was a nightmare- the guy showed up 5 hours late- spent about one hour working went for a 45 minute smoke break, told me he was gonna leave and come back abnother day because he was tired... returned 2 days later after I complained and he brought his son to help with the install ...... ??? His son is not a bonded insured employee ! The closets were OK but not what i paid for ! In addition, They promised me a credit because I changed my original order prior to installation and said they didnt give refunds - I tried to use the credit to have a dresser installed.. they never processed the order, I followed up to find out when it was being installed, and they said it was never processed and now I am out money and a dresser. They are hanging onto over 4k of my money and I can't get any resolution- just excuses. Similar to Deborah B in terms of no returned emails or calls... There are many other places to go for closets.. Agree with the other reviews that Closet Factory has terrible customer service. We only signed with Closet Factory since they guaranteed a delivery date. Now their approach is that they weren't bound by the delivery date and there is no apology for the inconvenience. Instead, they have already taken half of the money, and we are stuck waiting for them. Their customer service rep, Bobbi, is extremely rude. I would not recommend Closet Factory due to their lack of integrity, lack of customer service, and lack of responsiveness. read more

I had some work done in my con do in 2010 by the Closet Factory, shelving in 3 closets and book cases in my office. I have been reaching out to their customer service since July 15 requesting some maintenance on my book shelves with no response. I have been told they are extremely busy and someone will get back to me. I called the office on May 28 and spoke with a Debbie who told me to send an email to office@closetfactorynewyork.com. That day I sent an email and no response. I sent another email and called again on June 14, another on July 12, another on July 28 and another on August 16. NO response on the emails and I was told on the hone again they were extremely busy and someone would get back to me. I have now reached out to California Closet who has agreed to perform the necessary maintenance on my shelving. I was going to use Closet factory for other projects, but after this experience with their customer service I will never use them again! read more

This review is 10 months coming. For 10 months I have been trying to get doors added to the closet they installed for me and I am still waiting. This is despite numerous calls, emails, texts and also having my card charged for work that hasn't been completed. I've called the NY office, dealt with 2 separate designers, now it's the service team I'm trying to pull an install date out of and honestly EVERY STEP OF THE WAY has been a colossal failure on their part. Do not give this company your money. Their quotes are less than their competitors but I promise you the pain and suffering will not be worth it. You get what you pay for and I for one wish I had gone with California Closets. Instead, I'm staring at sections of the closet without doors and my belongings are in bags all over my house because the most recent install was essentially a team coming out without the correct materials to do the job and I'm out the money for it. The Closet Factory is the best in their field! They are true craftsmen, and their work is stellar. From start to finish, they will bring your idea to life and work within your budget. When Joanie came to my home to see what the space was like, she was prompt, polite, curtious, and because she has a background in organizing, she was able to design our closet to provide us with everything we needed for all of our stuff. The installation was seamless, and their workers were on time and so quiet we didn't know they had finished. The Closet Factory is not a fly by night operation. AVOID at all costs. The price is not worth it. I signed a contract in November 2021, it is now July 2022 and they have not even scheduled a MEASURE date yet. They are refusing to return my deposit and simultaneously refusing to give me my money back, so I am out $20K. Funny how when they wanted me to sign a contract and give them a deposit they were super responsive and now that they have the funds they've gone silent... I am simultaneously working with California Closets on other work in my home who, while more expensive, are responsive, courteous and organized. Compared to Closet Factory representatives who are rude and ignored my emails - I can truly say that the better pricing I got from Closet Factory was not worth it. I see other reviews here with similar issues with the same individuals I am working with and I can say with certainty that they are correct, yet these individuals continue to work at Closet Factory and swindle people out of their money. i ordered a wall unit from closet factory- and after a month one of the drawer pulls broke. when i contacted closet factory they wanted only to replace the broken pull. unsure if the others were faulty, i asked for replacement of all four. they did not honor my request. since i had bought through costco, i contacted them. it took several months and many emails to get a response. i have just gotten replacements and in fact the installer found that two of the pulls were faulty. not the response i would expect after such a big expenditure, read more

I signed a contract for my job back on 1/9/2022. I have been charged 50% of my job over a month ago and it has been well over a month since I was told I would be scheduled for measurements and an install date. I have checked in at least 10 times with no action to schedule above key dates in my project. I feel very comfortable giving them four stars. My designer consultant Melinda Kamlet was absolutely wonderful in every way ,extremely knowledgeable and a terrific listener. She helped me design a closet that was what I wanted, needed and cost efficient for my budget. The men who installed were very professional. They even wore boots for the two days they were here. Anyone who comes up to my apartment compliments the looks of it. I feel very comfortable recommending them to my friends. They did my closets and I'm not happy with what they did. One of the Sooners is cracked and really what I got it's not really functional for me. I asked for something and got something different. I paid way too much money for what I got. Just go to ikea you can get the same thing for a third of what closet factory charges. This company has robbed me of $5600 I requested for a designer to come over my home. The designer created a closet that I was not happy with after discussing it back-and-forth of how I would like my closet to be the designer quit the job and left me with a design that I did not agree to and I was not aware that she did not change the design that I ask. Now I am left with a wall unit in my bedroom and no place to hang my clothes I had to create a shelf in this closet to make room to put my clothes away. This happened since 2015 I have been trying to contact their regional manager and I have not received any response back from their regional manager. Be careful with this company there are stealing your money and leaving you with nothing but a headache. read more

I love Closet Factory in NYC! I moved from my one bedroom apt. in Bklyn to a small studio apt. (400 sq. ft) in Manhattan. I needed a wall bed unit with closets and storage space. Gabi Glassman-Werner (designer/VP) and I worked together to come up with a beautiful design. She arrived on time for our scheduled appointment at my apt., took precise measurements, and even brought samples of drawer handles so we could match the handles on the wall cabinets in the apt. The following week, the installers came to double check Gabi's measurements. Six weeks later, as promised, I had my beautiful unit installed. From beginning to end, the job went perfectly! Everyone did an excellent job! I highly recommend Closet Factory in NYC. I will be using them again. Five Stars!! read more

This is my first review of anything ever. Please!!! Choose a different company or spend the few extra dollars to get Better furniture/shelving. We used California closets in our previous house and they were great. This time we decided to use Closet Factory hoping that we could get comparable quality and service for a better price. We were wrong. The quality of the material is terrible. It has a decent finish from a distance, but when you actually look at how the units are assembled and the quality of the material you will see that the attention to detail and the quality of the material is HORRIBLE!!! I have cut myself (resulting in open slice cuts or scrapes that bleed) several times on the sharp edges of all of the shelving/doors because it is poorly manufactured and designed. I contacted closet factory several times, I was told that someone would call me back to schedule an appointment to evaluate the issues. No one ever got back to me.Please save yourself the frustration. Choose a better quality company that cares about the quality of their materials and craftsmanship. We did a full gut renovation of an entire house, and besides the placement of an AC unit it is the only other regret we have. I have no recourse that won't involve destroying and rebuilding the cabinetry throughout my house and costing myself tens of thousands of dollars. I helped my sis with her new move in and we had a wonderful experience with Closet Factory. Her designer was Debbie and there was a two-man installation team led by Abdul. First, Debbie was super creative in her design. It wasn't just the usual box fit, color by numbers I have seen in the past; she really took the time to assess the space and the family's needs and then tailor to that very specifically. The job was about 6 days and Abdul was right on time. The other nice thing is they do a wonderful job cleaning up. My sis has bad allergies but had no issues while Abdul and his team were there because they were constantly cleaning and, when they left, it was like they were never there. They vacuumed and wiped everything down. Extremely courteous, professional and able to think outside the box when a problem did arise. The only issue that occurred was the design for a shelf was right over where a wall outlet was. Abdul suggested inverting the design to allow for the freedom of the plug but no loss of storage space. It worked perfectly. I do see there are some negative reviews on Yelp and I love Yelp and Yelpers so I would suggest specifically requesting Debbie and Abdul because I am 100% confident in their professionalism and competence. read more

I had high hopes that this would be a seamless and smooth process but the customer service element was below expectations. Customer service and how a company makes me feel is huge for me. i was paired up with an alternate designer after my prior designer was no longer available (not a problem). The second designer was very professional and pleasant. She remeasured the closets and created a mock draft plan. Issue 1 We were told that for my husband's side of the closet we would have 24" double rods, due to human error after the closets were installed we found out we were not able to get the 24" due to a miscalculation on the part of the designers measurements. We were not told this ahead of time we discovered this after everything had been installed. The installers who had the plans which clearly said 24" didn't even point out to me that they could not do this. It was my husband who discovered this and we called your designer to find out what happened. I was very disappointed because we waited a long time to finally get our new closet solutions and to find out we had less space then what was agreed was very dissapointing as this was not what we agreed to. Issue 2 Two drawers did not fit again due to either a mis measurement or mis communication between Closet Factory and their installers. I had to wait 2 weeks to get the drawers meanwhile Closet Factory was quick to bill me immediately for installation. I followed up several times and was told that i was going to get squeezed in and was given a tentative date with the direction that they would call me the day before to let me know if it was going to happen. I said yes to the the tentative date because the other alternative was to wait another 2 weeks ( meanwhile Closet Factory already had my money in their pocket while i could not fully use my closet) I asked my designer if given the inconvenience my husband and I had to deal with would the company consider doing any kind of discount and was told no. Did i eventually get my closet solution..yes but the poor customer service left a bad taste in my mouth. I have other closets that we wanted to do but i think i will go with California Closets. the cost is the same and I just can not in good conscious go back to a company and give them my business when I didn't get the customer service i think one should get when you have spent several thousand dollars on 2 closets. read more

I found Closet Factory to be of the poorest quality, late on performing and poor in responsiveness. My project was a large one. Here are the specifics of my problems: 1. The quality of the product delivered to our apartment was poor and not as presented in the showroom.  2. The quality of the finishing performed by their installers was atrocious. This includes failing to connect sections of units to each other and the wall, fabricated elements not aligning with floor molding, measurements being wrong resulting in no installation, everything requiring refabrication and no response as to when it was going to be corrected. 3. Workers arrived late for work everyday, never before 12 noon. There was a lack of quality effort in their work and it was clear that the focus was start late and leave early. 4. The work was not completed as required by our contract. Our contract required completion in three full days, by a date certain. This is possibly the worst company from quality of services, materials, and customer service I have ever worked with on closet design and installation. We recently purchased a new home and we're having four closets built out. The designer was pleasant and professional, however the installation, the materials were not what were expected. They ripped out the current closet fittings leaving holes in the walls and then installing ill fitted materials after having been onsite and measuring twice! One closet that holds out washer/dryer was supposed to have shelves lowered to hold cleaning supplies, but instead, we received new shelves in the same exact location as the old ones in the old closet fitting. The workers even argued with my husband when he told them that he didn't think what they were doing is what we agreed to and they started sawing the materials on our hardwood floor to make them fit. I especially found this amusing since measurements were taken TWICE so why didn't the materials fit in the first place? When we called to explain how unhappy we were, we wee told that they would come out to fix it and provide backing but at a reduced charge; wait, so we can PAY for there errors? Customer service was non existent from a "senior manager" when my husband spoke to her. We brought up the cutting of materials and asked if its normal and the response from that oh so nice senior manager was the computer that produces the materials can't handle angles, only rectangular spaces. There is absolutely no customization since the computer can't handle it. Living in an old NYC apartment I guess they didn't get the memo that not all closets have perfect 90 degree corners? They also charge the remaining 50% owed without authorization to our credit card. We were informed that that payment will be refunded however we are out $2000 and have no storage in our apartment. Luckily, our contractors have been here this entire week and will be assisting us in demo and replacement. Moral of the story, if you want good design, quality, and customer service, look elsewhere. Starting with Steve Sanders who inspected the two prospective closets, made his recommendations on improving the usage of the storage space. Then there was an pre-installation confirmation of the design and then the installation. I couldn't be more pleased with the results. I used the Closet Factory in NYC to configure two closets. reach-in closets with sliding doors. The hall closet had three doors, the bedroom two. The initial consultation gave me two configurations and I chose one. Before the installation someone measured the configuration to ensure that the drawers, etc. were easily accessible. The installation was fast and the men vacuumed and left the closet area clean. They were were pleasant and worked quickly. I was very pleased on first glance. 1. The configuration in both closets had drawers. In the hall the drawers were not easily accessible unless two of the doors needed to be pushed aside. It became very annoying. When the design was rechecked, this should have been caught so changes could have been made. In the bedroom, I have to angle the contents in the compartment to remove them. Again this should have been caught. 2. Which is actually why I decided to write this review. During the installation a chunk of wood was missing and needed repair. In short, when I reported it I received no response. I was asked to send pictures. I needed to send the pictures again. Then I was asked to find a repairmen and have the repair done myself and trust they would pay. The pandemic hit; it never got done. I needed to have the apartment painted and the painters did the repair. I would not use the Closet Factory again. The material used is very nice and they look good. I wanted to convert a closet into a "mudroom". I had 3 companies give me a quote - Closet Factory by far, was the most professional. Mary came with samples and brochures. (This may seem obvious, but one guy came with absolutely nothing). After measuring out the space, Mary drew out a design for me. She even made some suggestions that never even occurred to me, and I could not have been happier with the final result. In the end, I decided to go with Closet Factory because I liked the consultative approach and the pricing was reasonable. Upon install, 2 men came and they were both courteous and were able to help me cover some cable wires that was not in my original plan. They were also very clean and efficient. In the end, I got a seamless custom fit "mudroom" that is highly functional and beautiful. I couldn't be any happier and would highly recommend these guys for any custom closet project. read more

It was most awful experience one can ever have with a company! I have tried to get used to their product since Feb as I paid a hefty sum of money to install this closet. But with the constant cuts and bruises that I got, I decided that I must write a review to warn others. The quality, service and craftsmanship from Closet Factory is absolutely unacceptable. The edges and corners of the drawers, shelves and doors are so sharp that I constantly got cuts. SO IF YOU HAVE CHILDREN IN YOUR HOUSEHOLD, DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY Here is some details of my awful experience: - The designer that I worked with is a man. He has absolutely no clue how a closet is suitable for a female customer. After I signed the contract, he basically is MIA on me. I paid a visit to their LI store to verify the design and realized the dimensions that he promised me cannot be done. He would not admit it until the product was made and delivered to their store. Then he called that I would lose 8 inches from the ceiling. - When they assembled the drawers, I found the manufactured plastic was not removed from the back. The installation team had to unassembled the "already assembled drawers" to remove the plastic. - I have scoop drawers (hole from the top so no handles). It was a compromise to save space as the initial design didn't work. The edges and the corners of the drawers were so sharp that I got cuts from the beginning. I sent the pictures to the designer, the store owner and even the franchise owner in LA. The complaint fell on deaf ears. I had another closet made by California Closet 15 years ago. All edges are smooth from door to shelves. I am not promoting California Closet but I believe I would have to replace this hazardous product with product from CC. read more

The absolute worst customer service after the sale. Installers don't do the job correctly the first time around, which leads to a ton of phone calls having to be made. Appointment was made to have the drawers fixed so that they close properly- they never showed up. No one (Jamie specifically) never followed up. High cost, and extremely poor quality. We can't say enough about our soup to nuts wonderful experience with Closet Factory. It starts with Steven Sanders our designer, he is extremely creative and took the time to assess our needs. He was also incredibly patient as we worked together to finalize the plans (we kept changing our minds and he never batted an eye)! Debbie and Jamie were helpful and extremely pleasant each time we called the office or needed something along the way. Our installers, Rocky and Tulsi, were awesome as well. They were beyond friendly, just like Steven, and very skilled. They did a top notch job and the closets look beautiful. They also cleaned up when they completed the installation and it was like nobody was even there. We also decided after the install that we wanted more shelves. Steven personally delivered them. You can't get better customer service than that!!! In the end the closets are better than we imagined and the whole experience was excellent. I went into the experience of building a custom closet with excitement and interest. Closet Factory paired me with one of their designers. She came to my apartment and drew out a basic plan of how my closet would look. There wasn't much detail or description and I was asked to agree to the drawing and sign the piece of paper. I should have known then that something was amiss. The closet took almost 2 months to build and I had to give a 50% deposit based on a basic drawing sketched on a plain piece of paper. The day came when the closet was finally being installed and it was a disaster. The closet was built too shallow and the drawers are only 8 inches deep! They also scratched my hard wood floors and chipped paint off of my wall. I immediately knew that something was wrong and called the designer to address the issue. She said she promised to make it right and would make sure that everything turned out ok. Unfortunately, she was not able to keep her word and Closet Factory refused to rebuild the closet correctly. They were honestly rude and curt. I paid $7000 which is quite a lot of money for me and didn't stand behind their work. They didn't actually care about me or their product at all. The designer was so distraught by the whole situation that she quit the company over it. They not only treat their customers poorly but also their employees. I honesty can't recommend them in good conscious. They are not ethical people. read more

Too bad I can't give a 1/2 star and that I didn't research them on Yelp before we hired Closet Factory for my new home in Brooklyn. Their name is fitting as they operate like a factory with poor customer service or care for the quality, or lack of, work they do. The material was not nearly like it appeared in the showroom and came discolored as the sanding tool was not used properly. They mis-measured one room blocking TWO windows and would not refund their error or recenter the shelving. They set up my son's shelving so that it looks like a Dr. Seuss piece of furniture and the list goes on. No interest by Closet Factory in standing by their product or service. I had been using Closet by Design previously and they were a LOT better than this group. I would never use them again nor would I ever recommend them to anyone. I can't remember ever writing a review like this but I wanted to spare someone a total ripoff! read more
