So I read the reviews and I immediately decided I wasn't going. As much as I wanted to try to unload some clothes, I allowed the reviews to sway in my decision. After some thought, I changed my mind and I decided to go into the store. I was immediately greeted by Jill! She was very thorough. I appreciated her attention to detail and explain explaining to me the process. She was even training someone which made it great to see her leadership style. Everyone there was helpful. I also appreciated the layout of the store. You can tell that they care about the items they will accept. They don't take anything so please don't bring your trash! This location isn't close to me, but I can anticipate coming back to Shop. Again, they have very good selection. You won't find dingy dirty clothes at this location. Brought in high end luxury items they only wanted brand new items some items could've easily been wiped down i was busy today so i didn't have a chance to do so. They only wanted 3 things out of the stuff i brought. I also looked around the store to see what they had.. nothing at all they looked like they NEEDED more inventory! I choose to keep all my things lol! The experience felt uncomfortable and judgy. But won't be shopping with them again nor selling good luck for those who choose this store. My response- thank you for responding in such a timely manner . These are some of the items that i dropped off and the reasons were "the brand and condition" lol. Because you all are a "consignment" shop i think you all should be more mindful in being so judgy of the items. I had gently used dresses, gowns and pants and they told me nothing older than 3-4 years is being taken by them. First and last visit ! Love the selection here but was very disappointed with my selling experience. I had a variety of sweaters and sports bras from lululemon at the bottom of my bag, along with some more warmer-weather things at the top (since I had just purchased sleeveless dresses from that exact location the day prior, I thought it was appropriate). I dropped my items off on Monday night 12/29 and was told I'd receive a text when they were ready for me to come back - Tuesday 12/30 came and I received no text. I thought maybe they were busy because of the holidays and sat tight. On Wednesday morning I got a passive aggressive voicemail that my clothes had been there for two days.... When I came back, they told me they wouldn't take anything. I investigated my bag and quickly realized it hadn't been touched at all!!! Everything was organized and folded exactly as I dropped it off - two piles of sports tops on the bottom sweaters in the middle and dresses and coat on top. It felt like the girl working was just being lazy - she forgot to go through my bag and then tried to blame me for leaving it there and had me come grab it. Well.. I'll just sell my sweaters and other name brand things elsewhere. Really disappointed in the integrity of the employees here. They're supposed to be a RESALE shop but they charge retail prices (on sale). I've heard and read horrible things about the service they fail to provide potential sellers, won't take any items and give snobbish, often rude attitude. I once asked a question online, asking why their prices are so high considering it's all used clothing and accessories. I received a very snarky remark. I won't waste my time going there to shop because they cater to wealthy women who don't want to pay full retail price, but they act as though this is a real reawakening business. They won't get past the designer label, even if there's rips or stains. I'm sorry, a used Coach bag is still a USED PURSE, and no longer with retail sales price. They say 80% off retail -- as if what they're selling is brand new merchandise, discounted at 80%z far from it. It's USED clothing and accessories. Went in there with ALL NEW ITEMS! BRAND NEW WITH TAGS! The lady at the counter was very rude and unpleasant. I knew from how she reacted to me (because I'm a black woman) that she was going to low ball me.. literally 5 minutes after I dropped it off I got a text that it was ready.. they passed on my items.. brand new Ugg boots! When you give a business a second chance and still leave disappointed, is what this place does. I have some very high end bags (Gucci, LV, Chanel, Hermes, etc). and was looking to upgrade my collection and earn a little extra money in the process. This is the 3rd time I have taken items like this to this particular store and have been granted a "pass" because of authenticity issues. Well Clothes Mentor Villa Park, I was able to post and sell all of my bags on Poshmark, they were all AUTHENTICATED and I earned a nice profit. I came back after an hour to check and was told they were "just finishing up". After over two hours after they were finished. The store was nearly empty, the employees were not focused. I probably dropped off my clothes and shoes (2 separate bags) a little past 1pm on Saturday and the woman at the front quoted me a time of 30 minutes. I remember thinking to myself, okay I could totally kill time by just browsing in the store and it should be done by 2pm at least right? NOPE. I couldn't tell if they were backed up or just taking their sweet time doing their job, but if they needed more help they should just hire more people to work there. I could see there was only 2 woman at the front, one cashiering and the other one pricing. Although when the line gets backed up, the other woman who's pricing helps out the cashier which is probably why it takes so long in getting your stuff checked. So I kept checking the time and when 2pm came, I glanced at the front and both woman were helping to cashier, all while no one is looking at the bags. I also noticed a pattern where if people came in to drop off bags, the women pricing would have to stop and take in the new person's stuff - thus causing more of a wait. I eventually got tired of browsing and left to run some errands and do some other shopping at the Dollar store and Sally's nearby. I came back in at 2:30pm and I notice my bag on top of the counter. It finally seems like they were looking at my bags. It took over an hour and a half and I was originally told "30 minutes". The woman at the front who originally took my things was busy talking to her daughter I assume. I overheard her saying "well it's probably cause you took Emergen-C along with Dayquil that you're feeling like this". They kept talking for a good 10-15 minutes before she got back to checking my things. I was getting impatient because she kept getting interrupted and stopped to cashier. It was at that point that I made the decision to not come back to this Clothes Mentor location. I noticed another customer glancing at the front as well. I think she was also waiting for her things to get priced and that it was taking a VERY LONG time. I wish I had said something to her like I've been waiting here too, just so she knew she wasn't the only one. I ended up just walking around inside some more until finally I got a text at 3:05pm that they were done. The women gave back my 2 bags and the things that they wanted were in a basket. I looked in the basket - they wanted my Adidas shoes, Clark shoes, some used winter boots, a Columbia top, a North Face top, a whole bunch of Adidas/Nike tank tops, my Coach backpack and a Versace perfume. She said it came out to $70 and if I get store credit it would be $89. This was not my first rodeo. I asked her for the breakdown of everything and she told me their buying price and also the price they planned to sell my things at. I wish she didn't tell me the markup because it is outrageous. I had just wanted to see what each of my individual items were worth and I was so amazed that they think I would let go of some lightly used Adidas superstar shoes for $5 and resell them for $20. I'm an online seller and I should not have wasted my time here in the first place. LESSON LEARNED. I told the woman after almost 2 hours of waiting that no. I don't want to sell anything and that I wanted everything back. She seemed taken aback. HAHA. What? You feel like I wasted your time? LIKEWISE. So I put all my things back in my 2 bags and when I got home I noticed at the bottom my things were still folded the way they were. Turns out the woman didn't even look through everything! I'm really glad that I went through this experience as I'll always remember to not ever, resell at Clothes Mentor or any other clothes consignment shop here in Illinois. TLDR; SELLERS: This place is just not worth it and you should probably do the work yourself in selling your stuff online if you want to make some profit. BUYERS: If you like thrifting, you could probably find some high-end brands here for a good price. If not for my bad experience, I probably would have gotten a Zara and/or North Face coat for $30. read more

Looking for some nice & cheap vacation clothes, I decided to stop by Clothes Mentor in Villa Park. I had been to their partner store for juniors and younger folk (Plato's Closet) in Glendale Heights but had never been to any Clothes Mentor store before. The store was very organized and had specific racks for brands like Loft, Anthropologie, and Lululemon among others. I loved their selection of dresses and tops. They also had some gently used Coach and Michael Kors bags at reasonable prices. Even their clearance section was well stocked and had some hidden gems. If you're in the area and aren't willing to pay full price for some pretty nice clothes, this is a great place to go. read more

There are so many reasons I love this store! One thing I don't like is how far it is from my house, but that's not the store's fault! I have purchased so many things I love from here. The #1 thing is a soft grey, cashmere hoodie I lived in all winter. The other is a pair of Sam Edelman black pumps that quickly became a favorite of mine. I have sold to Clothes Mentor in the past with little success. Brought in a bunch of women clothing in great condition and they didn't take anything. Normally, this type of outcome wouldn't make me want to write a review especially since they are under no obligation to buy anything, but the lady that was "looking" through the bags was done in less than 5 minutes. The owner (I assume) said the other girl passed on all the items due to style/ brands that don't sell well for them. Keep in mind that most of my items were from brands such as Express, Banana Republic, Michael Kors etc. all in great condition. My suspicion that they didn't really look through the items was confirmed after I got in my car. All the items were in the EXACT same order and folded exactly the same way. I deliberately organized everything for that same reason. And if that wasn't enough, all their inventory was similar to the items that I had brought in.... And if that wasn't enough, the girl that was checking my items had the worst attitude from the moment I walked through the door. I wish I had asked her name because she didn't have a name tag. All I know is she had long ombré hair and tattoos on her arms and an unpleasant demeanor. Long story short, just take your items to the virtual world and sell them on Depop or eBay. Zero stars is really my vote as I have serious doubts on the qualifications of the staff at this location. After bringing 9 bins of top designer clothes in for consideration, they purchased only 5 of my items stating age and size as the reasons for rejection. The majority of my items were purchased from Neiman Marcus, Saks, Von Maur, Lord & Taylor and many local boutiques in addition to ones in LA & NYC. Many items were new, unworn with tags, sized 10-14; which I noted 14-18 were extremely lower in stock in the store. They refused Gloria Vanderbilt, Banana Republic, Joseph Ribkoff, Nanette Lepore, Taylor, Peruvian Connection, Long Tall Sally and even good ol' Levi Strauss, just to name a few. While their clothes I viewed on display may have been manufactured within the last two years, which seems to be the only criterion they use, Laura Ingram or Lolita would be the only likely clientele for this store. read more

I'm giving this place 3 stars based on the fact the associate I dealt with was nice, informative, and processed my items quickly. I just wish they would've taken more of what I brought in! This is the typical struggle with stores like this... you think your stuff is better than they do! I brought in 3 bags of stuff to try and sell on a Saturday. They quoted me a 15 minute wait time. I perused the store while I waited- I thought the selection was decent, and prices were fair (enough). I found a cute kate spade bag that I definitely would've paid more for on my 2nd hand fashion app, but alas, I resisted the temptation to buy! I was strictly in it to sell. There was definitely a lot to look at in this store while I waited, with some good brands to be found! Shoes are in size order and are stacked on top of racks. I'm a size 10, and that rack was significantly taller than all the others... I guess it kept me from buying anything because I couldn't really reach any of the shoes! After about 10 minutes of looking, I got a text from the store that my order was processed. Out of 3 bags of designer purses, jeans and other clothing, they only wanted to buy one pair of boots off of me for $9.40... I took the deal because I was looking to offload whatever I could. The associate explained that my stuff just wasn't current enough, even though I was seeing very similar things on the rack. I felt like it was honestly a waste of my time, but in the end, I feel like they are just doing what they are supposed to be doing, and for that, I can't fault them. Will I be back to sell? I seriously loathe this place. Clothes Mentor, I love. This one, not so much. The store is cramped, selection is not as good as in other locations, but most of all, the employees at this location are downright unfriendly. They can barely be bothered to glance up anytime I enter or exit, almost need to be begged to open fitting rooms, and are constantly on their cell phones or engaged in other personal conversations. I don't know if anyone reads Yelp reviews for these places, but I'm mainly writing this because I really want to remind myself not to bother coming here. As a shopper, this place is freaking awesome! I came into Clothes Mentor after my search for a fringe purse at local stores failed. I can't believe I actually found a like new one for $15 and it's twice the size of all the other ones I was finding. The girl working the counter was really funny and said she was the one that took it in and her co-worker said no one would ever buy it. Leave it to me to buy the fugly items! I also found a pair of army green and brown Lucky Brand boots that are pretty new for $20 and a pair of silver glitter Tom wedges that were 25% off and ended up costing $13. This place reminds me a lot like Plato's Closet, but I found CM to be friendlier and a bit tidier. Granted, they have a lot of merchandise stuffed into a small place, so it will take you some time to browse. One good thing is they have some brands separated. There was an entire rack of Vera Bradley purses and wallets, Ann Taylor Loft, etc. I haven't sold anything here, so I can't speak on the consignment process, but I highly recommend checking it out to shop now that the seasons are changing. I had a terrible experience at the Clothes Mentor on Roosevelt and owner Patricia Perich! After receiving no call or warning, my clothes were THROWN IN THE TRASH! I dropped off my clothes and went to pick them up on and they were no where to be found. The women at the store said she would have the owner call me to see where my clothes were. I asked if there was a time period and was told ten days, but not to worry because they have kept items for as long as a month before and they give warning calls. I never received a call after my ten days was up, so I assumed the store associate just couldn't locate my items. Later that night I received a call from the store associate that she talked to the owner and she donated my clothes when my ten days was up. I told her to have the owner give me a call so that I could go to the organization where she donated my clothes and try to salvage my items. Like the bag that held my clothes, that my mom gave to me as a gift with my name embroidered on the side. Keep in mind, I went to pick up my clothes on the 12th day, not the 30th. I was two days off and I wasn't even aware of the policy. I know I signed a slip when I dropped off my items, but in all honesty, I didn't read it nor know anyone that really does. Plus, the store associate didn't mention it even though it was my first time selling with them. On a personal level, I was late because I was in and out of the hospital with this season's bad flu. But regardless, if someone would have given me a call letting me know I was approaching my ten days I would have had someone pick up my items and arrange it with the store. The next morning, Patricia Perich the owner, gives me a call to let me know that she didn't even donate them but threw them in the dumpster on the 11th day. Not only am I upset that I never received a phone call to let me know my ten days were up out of common courtesy, but even more upset that my items were thrown out when they could have been donated. Even though my shoes weren't in style enough for Clothes Mentor, at least I could have put a positive outlook on the situation knowing at least a homeless person somewhere could have had a new pair of shoes on there feet. Not to mention a few year dated Coach ones! I own a business and would never treat someone like Patricia Perich treated me. I believe in treating people how I would like to be treated and I do not believe Patricia Perich would have liked having her clothes thrown in a dumpster. It was more work for her to throw out my clothes, than just giving me a simple call. I hope all of Patricia Perich's clients, associates and friends know that she made the selfish conscious decision to maliciously throw out someone's stuff instead of showing any human courtesy and giving them a call. And furthermore, choose not to think of anyone besides her self instead of making a donation of perfectly suitable clothing to those in need. I will never go to another Clothes Mentor again, I will share my terrible experience with everyone I know and will let them know what a rude person Patricia Perich is. read more

The staff at the front is very rude. If you ever want to know who is the front desk staff. She is a girl with partially blonde hair at the bottom, darker skin, short and chubby. If you ever stop by this location, be careful. I brought in some clothes and she asked me:" Did you mean to go Clothes Mentor?" I said yes (that's a weird question) She then said: "it will be easier if you separate the clothes before you come here. " And then gave me a very disrespectful look. I normally go to the Orland Park location, staffs there are always super nice and will give your the estimated waiting time. This lady at Villa Park didn't provide any basic information to us as she supposed to, and keep giving us looks.
