First of all, Chef Alan and the manager (sorry, I didn't get his name as we had a casual conversation on the patio after he was off work) were welcoming and made me feel like part of their family. The menu is full of choices to fit every palate and food preference. Now to the food! YUMMY! I ordered the French Dip and the Pepperoni and Mushroom flatbread. Both were fantastic. The French Dip has a nice little surprise with fried onions on the sandwich - nice added texture. The jus was tasty, perfectly seasoned and delicious with the sandwich. The meat on the sandwich was also tasty, not fatty at all (which I am always worried about!). It was tender and again, the seasoning was perfect! The flatbread - Chef Alan asked if he could put the mushrooms under and of course, I said yes. He shared this one little modification would keep the mushrooms firm and delicious and he was right. The flatbread was covered in cheese, pepperoni, and mushroom caps. SOOOOO good! It's a little place on the corner, near Petco Park, and it's so worth every penny and if there is a wait, the wait... My husband asked about organic ingredients and the guy said, "the veggies are organic." My husband asked about the meat. The guy kind of shrugged and shook his head. However, my husband came back to the hotel room and said that we needed to eat there. So the following morning, we did. We walked over from the hotel we were staying at. Cloud 9 is located in the East Village down the street from Petco Park. We ordered the Pastrami & Egg sandwich, the Steak & Egg sandwich, and a Pecan bar. We had a nice conversation with the guy (different employee) at the counter and waited for our food to be ready. I didn't realize that they had just opened in the last few months. Let me just say, we wish we had a deli like this in our own neighborhood. This place is legit good. We cut our sandwiches in two and shared. Both were really good but the pastrami & egg was the favorite of the two. I really liked the soft brioche, crispy hash brown, and savory pastrami. It was a really nice combination. Plus, each sandwich came with a small fresh fruit cup. The pecan bar was a little on the sweet side and I could only manage a bite or two at a time. Opened for less than two weeks, the ownership of Pepper Farm Deli (PFD) in Santee has replaced a bagel shop in the East Village with Cloud 9 Deli. This area of downtown near Petco Park can be hit or miss with curbside parking depending if there is an event at the baseball stadium. Seating was limited to a few tables outside on the sidewalk and several more inside the suite. Five tall menu screens hung above the service counter with a vast array of choices. According to the owner (John), the selection here was less than PFD. Starting from the right screen and moving to the left, there were breakfast items, smoothies, soups, flatbreads, sides, salads, wraps, cold sandwiches, low carb plates, chicken classics, burger creations, and hot sandwiches. That seemed like a comprehensive set of offerings to me. From the list of nine cold sandwiches, I chose the Cloud 9 Beef Grinder. The ingredients were London broil roast beef, havarti cheese, romaine lettuce, pickles, tomatoes, bell peppers, pepperoncinis, and pickled onions on a Dutch crunch roll. The sandwich was cut in half and placed inside a clear plastic takeout container with a dill pickle spear included. The meat was thinly sliced and layered in between all of the other components. The pepperoncinis and pickled onions added sharp bursts of tartness to cut through the protein and carbs. The crunch of the bread provided texture and chewiness. For the value and quality of my sandwich, I gave my visit to Cloud 9 Deli a rating of 4.5 stars. read more

East Villagers here is a new lunch spot to add to your faves! I have been here 3 times and the food has been great and the guy at the counter is always so cheerful, and very helpful regarding the menu. Speaking of the menu, it's actually pretty large for such a small spot! The first time I came across it i thought it was some convenience store lol. Not only can you order amazing sandwiches, but they have pizza, burgers, plates, salads, desserts, macaroni and potato salads, soups. It's definitely geared more towards us meat eaters for sure, but some options are meatless and they have smoothies too! I've tried the filet mignon sandwich which wasn't quite as big as the picture online, but I really enjoyed it as the meat was so tender and had some good flavor to it. The Cloud 9 burger was juicy, and huge! I couldn't quite finish it although I tried because it was so tasty. The side of fries may have filled me up also, which I think we're pretty solid as well. I've also tried the macaroni salad which they do make in house, and I would definitely recommend trying it if you like that sort of thing. It had a tang to it that was just the right amount for me. This place is definitely one of my new faves and I plan to try different items each time I go, as so far everything has tasted great. read more

I often pass by this spot while walking my dogs, and it's always bustling with people. After seeing their great Yelp reviews, I decided to check it out. I stopped by around 4:30 PM on a Thursday and found plenty of seating available--both inside and in two covered outdoor areas. I ordered the Cubano sandwich along with a Pupil IPA. The food was brought out to me, and they even gave bacon to my dogs, which was such a nice touch. The staff was incredibly friendly, and the food was outstanding. I had one of my favorite breakfast wraps known as the Big City Wrap, which comes with "smoked Boar's Head ham, Boar's Head thick bacon, eggs, hash brown, avocado, Swiss cheese, chipotle sauce, and garlic aioli all wrapped in a griddles flour tortilla. The breakfast wrap was absolutely delicious and quite filling. The scrambled eggs were not only well scrambled but well seasoned and delicious. I loved the flavor of quality ham and bacon. The creamy chipotle sauce took the breakfast wrap over the top. The service was very welcoming and friendly. They offer comfortable seating inside and outside. I am so delighted this place has finally opened! East village needed a deli like this and Cloud 9 has already surpassed all my expectations! I went on Friday, the day after they opened, and was greeted with the friendliest staff that took the time to learn my name and give appreciation for my visit. I live downtown and this is one of our go to spots. I've had a variety of things from there (French dip, Cubano, chicken pesto flatbread, tuna wrap, crispy Chipotle chicken sandwich, filet sandwich , filet breakfast sandwich, sausage breakfast sandwich, the godfather, fries). Everything is delicious but their French dip is incredible. I love that their fruit cups are fresh too! We live getting their cakes as well. Everything here is top-notch, the sandwiches are fresh and packed with flavor, the soups and salads are just as good, and you can tell a lot of care goes into every dish. The staff are always friendly and welcoming, which makes the place feel even better. One experience that really stuck with me: one of the managers (maybe even the owner) personally walked my order down to me after a Grubhub driver left with the wrong food while I was stuck on a work call. That level of kindness and service is rare these days and says a lot about how much they care about their customers. I didn't want to take too long looking so I scanned the menu and picked rather fast. To my surprise the sandwich came with Dijon and not Russian dressing. The sandwich overall was good, decent amount of meat, sauerkraut. The zingy touch of the Dijon was different. I think overall I prefer the Russian blend. This place is finally opened and it replace (in my opinion) a terrible bagel shop. So right off the bat it got a star for that. Their menu is huge and it looks like they plan on staying open for dinner offerings as well with the flatbreads and burgers. On my first visit today I decided to try out their Turkey Gobbler(Thanksgiving sandwich) and their Cubano. The Gobbler was great although next time I'd opt for no cream cheese. Their bread is great and their portions are perfect. The cubano was delicious and while i've only had a few other cubanos, this was up there with the best. Both sandwiches came with a pickle which is always appreciated. Also picked up some chips, solid variety of offerings and got two beverages which is also a solid variety of choices. I appreciate the asian green tea bottles that aren't just the usual american tea choices (yuck). Customer service was great, the person at the register was welcoming and really made it feel like she wanted to be there. One of the kitchen crew members was also coming out and welcoming people in. The shop is small but well thought out. Some seating indoor, if this place had a line it would feel a bit cramped but still not bad for what they are working with. The deli itself is spotless, well-organized, and has such a great atmosphere. I was greeted by Alan, who was super friendly and helpful, especially when I mentioned it was my first time there. I ordered my food and sat outside on the patio and it was peaceful at first, but not long after the place filled up with people (which I'm guessing is because it's clearly a local favorite). When my food arrived, the presentation blew me away. Usually, with prices this good, you don't expect much in terms of plating but everything looked amazing and tasted even better. I heard about this place because my friend has gone a handful of times already even though they just recently opened. He has been raving about their sandwiches and he brought me one a few days ago (Italian Cosca). The sandwich was delicious and had lots of meat. The Italian dressing gave it an extra bit of flavor.
