It's great to have a delicious cafe at the Nat, all that learning about the most biodiverse county in the contiguous United States gives one an appetite! I think the burritos are a great deal if you're really hungry!

The food was better than expected for museum food and quite beautiful as well. The taste met with by grandsons approval and the quality of ingredients was better than other Mexican food shops. Being in a mueseum setting, I was not expecting much, but I was pleasantly surprised with the appearance and taste of the food served, which was delived in about 10 minutes from an off-site locatioin. This was certainly restaurant quality!

Every time I come here to the museum, I love grabbing something from the TCT. Super convenient with delicious food and hot drinks. Their staff is super amazing! Since it's inside the museum, it's nice that it's inside the atrium so you get all the vibes while having a delicious snack. My recommendation Sesame lattes Brown sugar Any of the burrito bowls Make sure you get carne asada!

Best place to eat in the balboa park. Food is bold with so much flavor. The ingredients are fresh and I loved the plump sweet shrimp and all the fresh flavorful accompaniment.

I used to think who eats museum food?! But honestly.. I'm sold! Craft taco you did an amazing execution in your bean and cheese burrito and California burrito. Portions were descent and prices were affordable. So you are telling me I get to be educated AND eat yummy food too. The service is wonderful, everyone was so kind, so much space to sit and enjoy your meal as your stare in awe the fossils hanging from the ceiling. I would highly recommend coming here and they also collab with local artisans, one specifically that stood out to me was "Hija Del Maiz" where they had assorted pastries. We loved the poptart.. hands down the best I've tried ever. Come support this gem

I needed a quick fix of some tacos while at Balboa Park and this small spot in the Museum of Natural History was a great find via Yelp. Many seats available and no need to have an admission to the museum to check this spot out. Walk in and you'll see it on the right. Carnitas tacos ftw! That's all I need to say. The first bite of that taco from the trio taco plate was so delicious. From the carnitas to the sauce, so damn good. The other tacos were tasty too, but the carnitas were *chef's kiss*. The carne asada fries were a generous portion and must be shared. Matcha lemonade was a touch of sour but that's good for me to balance with the matcha bitter.

The Craft Taco serves as the primary food and drink vendor on the ground level atrium of the San Diego Natural History Museum in Balboa Park. You don't need an admission ticket to visit this business, just tell the staff on duty at the desk that you're here for The Craft Taco. A mobile service counter was set up on the right side of the floor while at least a dozen small tables for seating were arranged in the atrium. Coffee, tea, milk, and lemonade were available as beverages. Starters, bowls, burritos, street tacos, and craft tacos were the food categories. I wasn't able to participate in the Yelp event held at The Craft Taco's flagship location in Sorrento Valley. This was an opportunity to taste some of their products. I picked two of the craft tacos which were full size and served on handmade blue corn tortillas. The first was the Dorado Fish which was a beer battered whitefish with paprika and chipotle aioli sprinkled on top. The second was the Surf and Turf which was made up of carne asada and shrimp topped with crema, fried queso oaxaca, and cotija. Each taco was neatly assembled on a cardboard plate. A worker delivered them to my table within ten minutes of my order. The beef and shrimp in the Surf and Turf were both juicy and flavorful. The handmade tortillas were fresh and noticeably soft. My only quibble would be the pricing as all five of the craft taco varieties were priced at a whopping $10 each!

    Ny Strip and Dorado taco

While exploring the Natural History Museum we stumbled across this spot. I was initially struck by the prices but they are well worth it. We got the NY strip craft taco and the derado fish taco both were very good! Later the owner kindly brought us an extra Shrimp taco. The NY strip has great flavor and has a nice kick. Neither taco skimped on protein. The Derado and shrimp had similar flavor profiles but the fried tuna took it up a notch. I would definitely make a trip back!

Got Tacos and Dinosaurs? Craft Taco does... Fact: San Diego County has more Mexican restaurants than most counties across the United States. San Diego is the #1 city for Taco Tuesday, fish tacos! Despite the many taco places, I will only eat tacos from places that are clean, offer fantastic ambiance, and the tacos are made with fresh, extraordinary ingredients. Craft Taco has a shop in SOVA (Sorrentino Valley, the area near Del Mar, where I've wanted to go and have their craft tacos. Well, now Craft opened in San Diego, inside The Natural History museum in Balboa Park. Eating fancy hand crafted tacos with views of the skeletal dinosaurs and free parking.. it was All fantastic. No need to pay museum fees if you just want to go to Craft taco. Just make sure you enter through the museum doors with the descending stairs, pass the concierge and the cashier ordering stand is to your right. The staff were very cordial, helpful and super nice: both Alejandra and Marco. Dining area is casual, clean and is actually in the seating area in the mezzanine. Hanging overhead are recreated whales, great white sharks and the main lobby greets you with the skeletal dinosaur mini Brontosaurus, so so cool! The menu has limited offerings, I ordered the Dorado fried fish, Camaron shrimp and a carne asada for Fendi. A chilled glass bottle of Jarritos tamarind soda was refreshing. All tacos were presented spectacularly and looked appetizing. The blue corn tortillas were hand made and the fresh filling of slivered cucumber, tomatoes, onions and micro herbs complimented the tacos deliciously. These toppings were not the usual: onions, cilantro, salsa and guacamole but are also available upon request. The shrimps were marinated and seasoned perfectly. The dorado fish also seasoned and crispy was scrumptious. My pup Fendi enjoyed the carne asada meat. Because of such a positive overall first impression, I will probably return to savor the other items on the menu. Go see the dinosaurs and have some tacos at Craft Taco. Recommend

Stopped in here with my run club for a bite and was met with INCREDIBLE service and food! It's such a neat location being right under the museum and there's the museum gift shop in there too so we browsed while waiting for our food. Big fan and will definitely be back!

    Surf and Turf Taco

Everything was amazing! The Rosemary and Lavender Latte was super smooth. I also got the Dorado Fish Taco and Surf & Turf Taco. They were perfectly balanced! It all tasted so fresh. The tortilla was just mind blowing to me. Jonathan was so kind as well! I loved hearing how much heart has gone into everything

    Cheese quesadilla

Husband ordered a $7 cheese quesadilla. It had a small dusting of powdered cheese. Inedible. They also provide no hot sauce to help someone choke it down. Ridiculous.

Monique and Danica were both amazing. They're warm, welcoming, and you can really see the passion behind what they do. Danica is also the DJ, and her eclectic playlist made the whole experience even better. One of my favorite parts was just sitting there watching our drinks being made. You can see the care and craft that goes into every cup...even the Kuramoto ice is beautiful. The Matcha Americano completely changed my perception of matcha. The Kyoto cold brew pour-over was fascinating to watch and incredibly smooth. We loved it so much that we came back the very next day. Not greeted upon entering the business just gave me that stare with not asking if I had any questions. I dont recall his name but he was very skinny, curly hair or wavy and i believe he had braces, but not sure if he was having a bad day but something wasn't all there. I ordered 2 drinks, I forget the other but it had cinnamon on top. The drinks were just hand on the counter without saying which drinks is which, so i asked which one is which. Didn't hear me, so i kinda said again and he pointed them out not in a nice or rude way but the approach of how it was handled was not friendly. How can you have Mazapán without the Mazapán crumbles which are very iconic to the drink. I just found it super strange and did not care for it. The cinnamon based drink was good tho, which I'll give them that. Experience could have been better.

The same seating arrangement of the bar countertop and tables across from it was available if you wanted to hang out and chill. A sign behind the bar described the ceremonial grade matcha that was used with the region of origin and the flavors imparted to the powder. Five different matcha drinks were offered along with hot and cold coffees and lattes. The top three matcha choices were priced at $8 each. I chose the Ordinary Pleasure which was the first one. Pandan sticky rice milk and mango puree were added to the matcha and topped with a salted coconut foam. I wasn't a fan of the foam, but the matcha flavor was intense and contrasted by the fruity puree on the bottom of the cup. The baristas were very focused with measuring the exact amounts for each ingredient in the drinks they were preparing. The matcha quality seemed to be very good based on what I tasted so maybe it's why the price was $1 higher than what I have tried elsewhere.

Unfortunately, there were no signs or guidance showing where the line should be directed, which made things confusing from the beginning. By the time I reached the front, the owner (I'm assuming) a woman with glasses and long black hair spoke to me in a passive-aggressive tone and told me the line was actually on the other side. Given the setup, it wasn't obvious at all. There's a fence directly in front of the shop, and with the large crowds that day, it was even more chaotic. I tried to be understanding and moved to the correct spot, but while I was waiting for my drink, she repeated the same interaction with several other customers in the same tone. People were clearly confused, walking around the fence trying to figure things out, and without any guidance, I saw multiple customers leave frustrated. Customer service, especially from the owner, was disappointing and could definitely be improved particularly during busy events when clear communication matters most. That said, I'll give credit where it's due: the drinks were great. I'd rate my banana coffee a solid 4.5/5, it was delicious, and the heart-shaped straw was a really cute touch. This is the only local street in which I have seen vehicles parallel park in the median of the road without any concern from law enforcement. There was an outdoor kitchen setup behind the house including a wood-fired pizza oven, smoker, Santa Maria grill, and fire pit. All of the seating was al fresco either at tables in the front patio or at picnic tables in the backyard and deck. You walk up the steps and through the front door to place your order at the service counter in the main room. Some prepared foods and drinks were available as grab and go items. Pizzas and paella will be the main focus of their menu. For the soft opening, four pizzas, a vegan paella, and skirt steak tacos were the choices. I chose the last item for my meal. Arracherra skirt steak, grilled onions, and chiles were accompanied by flour tortillas and guacasalsa. The components were placed on a rectangular cutting board as a serving vessel. The steak was cooked medium rare and then sliced into pieces that could fit inside a tortilla. The two grilled chiles had a nice smoky flavor to them. The avocado based salsa added a creaminess to the meat and vegetables. For the food quality and relaxed outdoor setting, I gave a four star rating for my initial experience at Cafe Califas.

Both outstanding in flavor and portion sizes. Overall this place is really welcoming and offers a good variety of food items to pick from. Street (paid) parking is available as well as a parking garage nearby ($1/hour or $5/all-day). Wish I had saved room for pastries, which looked delish and you could tell they were freshly made - we saw when the royale cookies and the plain croissants came out. Gotta try some next time!!
