Aaron was very courteous, thorough and timely. I wonder what the other reviewers are complaining about....I guess the squeeky wheels make the most noise. So I wanted to toot the horn in support of Clough Mechanical. He could have tried to get a new furnace replacement out of me. But as he tested for CO, he had me watch his monitor as the furnace ran...so I knew he wasn't going to lie and say I needed a furnace if I didn't. He even did some extra things than what we discussed to go the extra mile. I had a burner that wouldn't ignite until the gas poured out and reached the other flames causing a mini-explosion. He had it all fixed in a half hour and was very friendly...highly recommended! read more

I've hired Clough Mechanical many times over the years. I have probably been calling them for HVAC service for over 10 years. They are not a big company. They are a small "ma and pa" company, but they always try hard and they don't gouge me on price. I've had bids from other companies that are 2 or 3 times as high as the bids from Clough. I'm sure it's partly because other companies may have way more overhead and advertising to pay for blah blah blah. That's all well and good, but I don't really want to pay a ton of money just because other companies have more overhead. I like to support the small, local companies. Thanks Dennis & Lou! read more

These guys were awful to work with. Our AC started freezing up on the outside unit and because we were still under a home warranty we were required to use this company. They came out and after a 5-minute look at the unit informed us that the problem was that we have too many cold air returns so it was causing the system to freeze. This is interesting as the system has been working since May just fine with exactly the same number of cold air returns. The tech told us to cover a return and it should be ok. He was here and gone in less than 20 minutes. Didn't even bother to turn on the system or really check anything. Well, the unit kept freezing so we called back. The warranty company scheduled Clough again. The same tech came back. Since the last time, we had left the system turned off for days at a time and whenever we turned it back on it started freezing within about an hour. We DID cover the air return the tech suggested (even though that didn't seem to be the real issue). We also noticed that even after the system had been off for extended periods when it was first turned back on there was barely any air blowing out of the vents. The tech went straight outside to the until and proceeded to tell me the problem was the cold air returns again. I said we'd covered the one he said to cover. I also told him about the system barely blowing air, and he said that was because it was frozen, that we needed to allow up to 24 hours for it to fully thaw. I told him we had left it completely off for longer than that and when it was first turned on it still barely pushed any air through. He did not listen at all, he insisted that the problem was the cold air return and the fact that our unit is pretty old (although it does have a new compressor). He proceeded to tell me that it wasn't his fault our system was inefficient and insisted the problem was the air returns. I asked why it had worked all summer (3 full months of summer it ran just fine) if the air returns were the only issue, and he told me the unit was too small for our house. Maybe so, I really don't know, we've only lived here 9 months. We've messaged the previous owners (through a neighbor who knows us both) to see if they had issues, and they said they didn't. Also, why did the system work fine through May, June, and July if the air returns were the problem the whole time? The tech then said we'd probably poked a hole in one of the cooling lines or something when we moved in or when we used a nail to hang a picture or something. Are you kidding me? (First of all, rude, and secondly, seriously come on.) Our AC unit sits directly outside the utility room so all of the tubes, wires, and everything go straight in there -- and we haven't hung any pictures in the utility room. Mostly, I feel like this tech was a joke. He was unwilling to listen to anything I said, and I'll admit I got a little feisty with him when he accused us of ruining the AC by hanging a picture. He never even turned on the system or checked anything at all. He just KNEW what the diagnosis was and would NOT consider that there might be some other problem. He was quick to let me know that he was the professional here and he knew what he was talking about and I didn't (and I really don't, so he's right -- that's why I called him -- but what he did I could have done on my own without having to pay a penny). I didn't notice until after he left, but in his comments on the work description sheet he wrote, "Didn't block vents, only put bean bag in front of one." This was NOT true -- we used a board to cover the vent completely, and it had been covered since he suggested that solution. I was pretty annoyed that he didn't even look close enough to see the board, and just assumed we'd plopped a bean bag next to the return and called that good enough. He didn't even ask about it to clarify. I told him it had been covered, he saw the bean bag -- didn't try to correct me that it needed to be covered more than that -- and decided that we were inept. If he thought we'd left only a bean bag to cover it, why wouldn't he say "you need to do more than put a bean bag chair next to it." He was definitely rude and condescending...but he said it all with a smile, so I guess that's something. I would NEVER call these guys if I had the choice. **Update** We called another company (Brady's Comfort Systems) who came to the house and in 5 minutes had found that the system was clogged with all kind of dirt and gunk. He used an acid wash to clean it (thinks the people before us likely didn't use a furnace filter or never changed them). Showed me the TONS of gunk that was clogging things up. It was literally just moments for him to find the actual problem -- and then to tell us to unblock the cold air return because the more airflow the better. read more

This company accepted service, then left us waiting for 5 days.. And never showed up. Little kids spent holidays freezing in -10F temperature crying to sleep while this terrible people were too drunk to pick up the phone to tell us not to wait for them. When I called yet again they could not even find my service order and wanted me to waited another day to even locate it. If you need service in NEAR FUTURE call someone else! read more

Incredibly rude. He wouldn't even let me explain what the problem was. Every time I started to answer one of his questions, he'd interrupt me. He also was very condescending and pretty much accused me of being stupid. After he left, I discovered he forgot to put the floor register back in place and my cat had crawled into the duct work. Mr. Clough came to my home today to check-out my 2 A/C units. I called-in a work-order through my home-warranty company last week, believing that at least the 2nd floor unit was not functioning as well as it should (it gets significant use, as I work from home!). After performing basic function tests and some verifications, he used gauges to obtain readings on each unit. Everything checked out. During his visit, I engaged Mr. Clough in conversation about newer technologies (R410, Dual-Speed/Stage), sizing, etc. My A/C units are 17 years old. He could have given me a sales-pitch on 1 or 2 units that would have brought significant profit. He DIDN'T. He was extremely honest, stating I should stick with my current systems. I had done my own research prior, and his explanation on all points checked out. When I have concerns in the future, I'll be directing the home-warranty company that I want Clough Mechanical Services to do the work, even if I have to wait for a few days. read more

I had to do all of the calling to schedule and follow-up on them coming out for my air conditioner repair. They replaced the motor and left during the few minutes that it worked. When it stopped a few minutes later, I called and they kept me hanging. 100+ degrees in the summer and 3 weeks and no help later, I paid a different company to replace my whole unit so I could start over. The new tech I called (who is amazing -- Jared at All Services Mechanical 801.850.1157) was not happy when he showed me that they put the wrong motor in the unit! I will NEVER recommend them or use them again! In fact, I have told everyone I know that they are not professional and left us hanging!!! read more

Our furnace quit working and our home warranty company, Old Republic Home Protective Services, contracted out the repair with their local service provider Clough Mechanical Services. We received a call within a few hours and an appointment for the next day. Taylor, the HVAC tech came out on time and was very knowledgeable and polite. He not only diagnosed the problem as a bad fan capacitor and replaced it but went out of his way and cleaned the flame sensor and the flame tubes. He also replaced the Thermostat batteries. I have over 40 years in the HVAC business and know that many dishonest companies would have told me that it needed a new gas valve and flame sensor but Taylor simply cleaned them and made adjustments and said they were good. A honest tech working for an honest company! I read the bad reviews below and in defense of Clough know that Home Warranty companies tend to tie the hands of their contracted service providers. The warranty companies are often the ones that have to approve and order the repair parts and the provider has to wait for the parts to be delivered to them. Delays and scheduling difficulties are often caused by the warranty company and not the local contractor. I'm sure all the bad reviews that Clough received were a result of the warranty company. I endorse their company. read more

Warning- Lengthy story. Cut to the chase? Read the last paragraph for overview of review: We had our furnace maintenance check via our home warranty company. After trying to get them out here for 3 weeks, Clough Mechanical (UT) finally came out- they said they never received the email. Upon inspection on November 20th (the tech was late- showed up after 5 pm), they said it was putting out dangerous CO2 levels and they needed to shut the furnace off. It was reading 2 ppm. Their intent was to replace the furnace. After speaking with the home warranty company, they were told they needed to go through the manufacturer as it was still under the manufacturer's warranty. The home warranty company would pay for labor, but the manufacturer needed to supply the part. We waited and waited and kept calling and asking the technician when it would be fixed. It was so cold and only getting colder (cold snap of below zero!!). He said there was no way to track the part and we'd just have to wait. After telling him there is no way anything is shipped without a tracking number, he decided to investigate a little more. Turns out the part wasn't put on a truck until after Thanksgiving weekend. So, after doing some investigating we found 2 ppm is nothing. Less than the air in a car or even the outdoors. The average home produces 1-9 safely. We called our local fire department and they said 2 was completely safe and recommended CO2 detectors (which we had been saying we needed anyway). We bought the CO2 detectors (one for each level) and turned the furnace on. Both are reading at 0 and have been for 5 days. Without back-up heating options (electric and gas firelplaces), our pipes surely would have froze. We finally had the part replaced two days short of four weeks of waiting. Regardless of whether it was a manufacturer issue or what, Clough NEVER once took responsibility. I heard one very short "I'm sorry" from the secretary. This was only after she asked my name, followed by "Oh crap, didn't he call you?"--very professional. Other than one mid conversation with the secretary, we never received an apology. Not an offer to pay for a hotel room during sub-zero temperatures without a furnace for almost 4 weeks. We had to continually contact them to find out what was going on (very rarely did they initiate updates). Their behavior indicated they could care less about us or our situation. THAT (and actually that is second to the fact my home was FREEZING for so long) is my biggest beef with this company. Late, stories that don't match or add up, and overall disregard for our situation will forever be attached to this companies name in my book read more

Always comes as soon as possible. It may be after 5PM, but that is because there is a backlog of customers. At least I don't have to wait until the next day. Friendly service. Explains what he is doing and why. Even tells me how to fix it if it happens again. Very knowledgeable and reasonably priced. read more
