My husband and I went to a few vineyards for wine tastings this weekend and Clovis was far and away our favorite. We were able to taste their entire wine menu (instead of just picking 5) and every single one was delicious. My husband usually dislikes white wine, and he said the Sauvignon Blanc was the best white wine he's ever had. We enjoyed the wine so much that we bought a couple bottles and joined their wine club. The staff there was wonderful. A couple different people poured for our tasting and all of them gave us descriptions of the wines we were tasting and chatted with us while we were there. The tasting room is spacious and they have a screened in porch where you can sit and relax and enjoy a glass or bottle of wine. read more

Recently, a friend of mine bought 2 vouchers for the tour at Clovis Point off of livingsocial.com. The deal was 2/$30. Included in the vouchers was a "tour of the vineyard" which equated to the owner of the vineyard showing us the grapes as well as sit with us as we tried each of their wines. Neither me nor my friend had any real experience with wines or wine making, and thus the whole thing was a great learning experience. As we were led through each of their wines, we got an overview of the wine making process and basics between the wines. We were also given a history lesson on Long Island wines, an interesting and personal twist. The experience also included a glass of our favorite of the sampled wines and a cheese platter. I'd recommend this experience for anyone who isn't knowledgeable about wines and is looking to get their feet wet. The wine was good, people knowledgeable, and atmosphere great. Even though I took two bottles home, I'm sure I'll be back soon. read more

We went during the christmas/newyear week season so it isn't exactly busy so in theory they should be more attentive during the wine tasting. Our server was knowledgeable but the way they run the wine tasting made me want to leave. This review is entirely based on their service, and manner in which they run their wine tasting. My opinion of their wines has no impact on this rating, granted it did not help. The scenery was great even in the winter and they have a nice outside patio for talking and having a glass of wine. With that said, I think they need to look up and ask other wineries what the point of a wine tasting is - to sell wine. The better you run the tasting the more wine you may end up selling. So why in the world would to do this... - Have all the wines in one glass? Yes all the wines are served in the same glass. There was no switch between red and whites and there was no option to rise out the cup. A cup of water wouldve been nice to both have the option of rinsing out the glass or to cleanse the palette before the next wine. I know water dilutes out the wine, but after I tasted those wines, I wanted the water... - Why use the same glass for red and whites? The glasses drastically are different and make an impact on how we taste wine and smell wine. - serve wine that has been opened over a week ago. One of the wines was opened 9 days before we went. This one was a doozie and is the main reason for the review. We tasted the whites first. They were okay. I didn't love them, but they weren't bad. Then we moved onto the reds and everything went downhill. The color right off the bad was deep red but almost look like they left it out for a few days. Starting with the 2004 vintage of Merlot, there was a terribly strong overpowering smell of oak and maybe spice. The server said her favorite or the winery's best was the 2007 vintage which to me had less of the overwhelming smell and taste were still present. I couldn't grasp what it was, but I had never encountered something like that and it was overwhelming. I couldn't taste much else. Seemed to me like the wine had been left out. Then I saw one of the bottles had been opened 9 days ago.......They wrote the date on the bottle of which they opened cause it sure tasted and looked like it was opened 1week+ ago. Would you drink a wine yourself if it had been opened 9 days ago? They don't exactly have state of the art dispensor (a simple plastic pourer) and hopefully they store their open bottles in fridge as opposed to at room temperature.... read more

This was the first place we stopped along the North Fork Wine Trail. The tastings were $6 and the staff was not friendly. The greeting... "Please shut the door." I'm used to visiting the Finger Lakes vineyards so I'm not used to paying for tastings and $6 was high, most places were $4-5. The decor was bare and uninviting. Best kept secret for a wedding venue on the North Fork!! We were searching for a venue for a small intimate wedding for this summer, started in about March! Many vineyards charge exorbitant location fees and have so many restrictions and added fees it becomes cost prohibitive. When we came across Clovis Point we never expected it would meet all of our needs and then some. The wines are fabulous and the variety offered accommodates most peoples taste. (Thank goodness Hal advised us to put our favorites aside because the 2007 Chardonnay is completely sold out!) The owners and staff have been very accommodating through our many visits since March! The gardens now in full bloom are gorgeous, as well as the vineyard itself, the outside deck is just perfect for a beautiful evening dinner in the vineyard without all the traditional stuffy atmosphere! This place was fairly average. My biggest gripe is that they call wine flight a "tasting" - it's not a tasting, they don't explain anything about the wines. It's just a flight! Call it what it is. My fiancé proposed her about a month ago and it was a beautiful place! Delicious wine! The staff was very friendly and offered to take pictures and even gave us and complimentary glass of wine and souvenir glasses. The day was rainy but they made it extra special! The location is really nice. We went in mid-April so it was a little chilly. They had a covered deck that was warm enough to have some lunch. They allow you to bring your own food which is a huge positive. They have a nice tasting bar along with a tv. It was nice to catch some of the Knicks game. They have a big backyard but it was too cold out there. Our group enjoyed the wine. We had a few bottles. The girls enjoyed the Rose. We'll definitely be back in the summer. read more

I visited for the first time on Saturday, 11/16. What a cool place! The place was packed with a generally youthful crowd. Despite that, the musical act was playing Dylan, the Beatles and 60s /70s. Guess they know which demo has the $$$$$. I liked "my music". You can stroll the beautiful grounds and they let you bring your own food. My lovely and I enjoyed tasting all of their wines($13.00). The Estate Chardonnay and the Cabernet Franc were amazing! The servers were friendly, cheerful and helpful, explaining all the wines. I have been told that they are open all winter with music on Saturdays. What a nice cure for cabin fever if the weather permits. I will definitely return to Clovis Point Winery again soon. read more

I stopped into Clovis Point on a whim, and on a recommendation from the Nappas at The Winemaker Studio. I'm glad I did! The spot is easy to miss -- a gravel driveway between rows of vines, with the tasting room tucked within. After a day of tasting mostly reds, I decided (against my norm) to try a white flight (or, more precisely, a "cold flight").The first three items in the flight were Chardonnay, each blended with Gewurtztraminer -- intriguing on its own -- followed by a Cabernet Franc Rosé. While I'm not normally a Chardonnay fan, their 2011 was almost more Sauvignon Blanc-esque, and it's one I enjoyed. They also threw in a bonus pour of their 2007 Archeology blend ... a bottle of which is now en route to my house. Well played. I found the staff congenial, and quite proud of their product (rightfully so). They also were quite proud that, while they had some wine-friendly snacks, their focus was wine -- not being a lunch counter or picnic vendor. I'd suggest adding Clovis Point to any tour of the North Fork wine country! read more

Nice laid back winery... Upon arrival, the service was great as we were immediately accommodated to the tasting room. Very friendly and eager to assist in anything we asked. Also, the winery associate didn't mind staying with us and provide detailed information about our flights. They offer three kinds: One white, one red and premium. Not sure if it was because it was Veteran's Day weekend, but there sure was a lot of things to see here. There was a cooking demo with risotto, live music, food pairing and a Vietnam era U.S. helicopter in the back field. I was concerned about the weather, but the patio was covered and had heating. Made it perfect to enjoy a nice bottle I had purchased. read more

We went on Saturday afternoon. The person who took my reservation was so nice! Explained all COVID protocols. They have timed seatings. Very organized getting everyone seated. We had the lawn seating which was under a tent. Live music was great! Had the 2016 Black label Chardonnay and 2016 Cabernet Franc and enjoyed so much, I bought bottles to take home. Clovis Point is one of the lesser known vineyards on the North Fork due to smaller production, but their wines are pretty good and worth the stop. I particularly like the location, towards the beginning of wine country, in the event you don't want to go all the way out or dealing with a lot of traffic. Be Aware that as of the last time I checked, they don't allow limos. The grounds are very beautiful and we'll maintained. The tasting room is a pretty good size, with a large enough staff to not keep you waiting for very long. Everyone was very friendly and personable. They have a heated patio for when the weather is a bit chilly, so you can still enjoy the outdoors My only complaint is for the last time I was there - an individual on the staff we were dealing with appeared to have friends there and should have been a bit more accomodating. We were patiently waiting for her to give us another tasting and I felt that although she knew we were waiting, she chose to finish her conversation/story first. As a new comer to this particular vineyard, it is quickly becoming one of my favorites. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. We did a combined tasting of both whites and reds. Chardonnay and Merlot were my favorites. Was not a fan of the rose and the barrel fermented chardonnay was a bit to oakey for my taste. After our tasting, we decided to enjoy a bottle of the Merlot on the back patio. The seating area is very nice and spacious. Definitely a really nice way to spend an afternoon! read more

My friends and I took a trip to this place this past Saturday. Our group of 7 came in 2 separate cars so technically you could call us 2 smaller groups. It just so happened that at the same exact time we pulled up to the place a limo entered the parking lot. As my friends and I walked toward the building employee after employee asked us if we came from the limo to which we responded "no" to at least 2 people. Upon entering the place it looked nice on the inside. The cool air conditioning felt great and we were all ready for a wine tasting. Then suddenly the owner comes into the building and said, "Don't serve these guys, they came from the limo" to which we all responded no. The owner didn't believe us and we left the premises and went to some other nearby wineries. We couldn't believe the audacity of the owner!! Unbelievable! Way to lose out on potential customers. I really hope he reads this review. Yelp let me pick 1 star, but I would have left zero for your stubborn headed discrimination. I mean what possesses someone to do that? As the owner wouldn't you want to be welcoming to customers? To everyone who reads this, do yourself a favor and skip this winery. There are much better, livelier, and friendlier wineries just mere minutes away from this one. Wineries with people enjoying themselves with some tasty wine. Oh and I forgot to add that one of the employees did end up apologizing for the owner after they all saw us roll out of there in our cars. The last time we went here, my friend was told to remove her gum...I mean, I wouldn't drink wine and chew gum at the same time, but ...really? Since the atmosphere was nice, we decided to give it another try, this time... As soon as we pulled in, my friend was stopped immediately by an employee (owner?) from pulling in her spot because it was already "promised" as an alternative for the car that parked illegally in the handicapped spot (shouldn't he now find his OWN spot?)! So my friend had to park in the boon-docks, when SHE'S the one who parked legally... We weren't even there for 2 minutes... To add insult to injury...the pour amounts for the tastings were so miniscule, my friend thought the bartender mistook that her and her friend were sharing each actual pour...! When questioned, we received a large attitude and a response that they have "measurers and everything..." We've never seen a smaller amount of wine poured in our lives... It was insulting... Terrible experience. The wine tasting was expensive and the bartender was extremely rude and uninformative. She only gave us one glass for the both of us and really skimped us on the pours. We asked if we could sit at a table and walk around the vineyard and the bartender and owner were both really weird about it and said they had to check reservations even though there was no one there... we left after the tasting because we were supposed to meet friends there but decided to go Jason's instead (right down the road) and it was a much better experience and had way better prices. read more

Clovis Point Winery should be ashamed of themselves. I would give it no stars if that was possible. I called ahead as our limo driver suggested to make reservations for the limo. After checking their website and seeing nothing about reservations for limo's I did see that you needed a reservation for a group of more than 6. We would be 8 so I called for that reason. The girl on the phone was extremely rude, repeatedly. I was surprised at her rudeness for no apparent reason. I decided to not make reservations because of this and if we did go we would just walk in as two groups of four. The limo driver said he should drop us off and leave, we could call him when we were ready to be picked up. WELL. when we pulled up at 12:20 pm on Mothers Day a woman came out very aggressively with her clipboard and said "what name is your reservation under and didn't you see the sign that says no limo's". (which we wouldn't have seen because we were in the back of a limo). To make a long story short...I knew IMMEDIATELY that this was the same girl that answered the phone two days before (so obviously she wasn't just having a bad day when I called, this is her personality) She told the 8 of us (Moms on Mothers Day) "They were very busy - by the way, not another single car in the parking lot- we were "not welcome there". We explained that we would not take up space in their tasting room, that we would buy a few bottles and sit outside. She asked us to leave again saying "you are not welcome here". We all realized we did not want to give them our business now anyway so we left. It was the oddest thing. I wonder if the owners would like her turning away 8 people when there wasn't another car in the parking lot. So none of us will ever go there again and we will spread the word. The owners will be informed of this young lady's rudeness. I will also tell them that we went to Jamesport Winery up the road, where we were welcomed with open arms, stayed two hours, spent hundreds of dollars and told everyone we possibly could about our experience at Clovis Point. Ok....so at Clovis pointe winery where we are members....national weather service sends us a tornado watch alert. Told to move indoors. Move indoors for alert to pass and owner tells us we're not allowed to stand in building. Tells us we have to go back on porch where our only protection are plastic walls which are blowing violently. Tells us we have to go back or leave. We chose to leave...did not pay our bill...and cancelled our membership on the way out. How do you put your patrons in danger for some stupid rule he can't even back up. He should have opened his wine cellar to anyone who was fearful of the weather. Several other patrons left under same circumstances! Bye Clovis Pointe! Bye Nash! Sorry to the sweet staff who were apologetic for situation! Was there today and had a great time. I purchased a bottle with my fiancé and totally relaxed on the lawn in the late afternoon. The Cab Franc Rose is fantastic - not your grandmother's rose. Dry and Crisp like a true French Rose. 1 low note; I guess it was a little after 5pm A load of 7 or so drunk girls with a few drunk guys spilled out of a limo. They kicked off their shoes like they owned the place, came screaming across the lawn as if they were the only people there, ran and down and down the rows of vines ducking under the wires. Your basic s-show if you know what I mean. Right after 3 more guys who seemed to know the limo girls pulled up to the lawn in a white pickup with New York license plates and joined them. Some of the girls paired off with a couple of guys down some other rows. But within minutes, someone, I don't know if it was the owner or manager but someone got them out quickly and he got a round of applause from the crowd It's a fine vineyard with some of the best wines on Long Island and they don't seem to tolerate the Boardybarn crowd that too often turns up at some of these vineyards. I'll go back again anytime. read more

The place gets points for their knowledgeable and friendly staff but looses points for the wine. The wines for the most part lacked depth. Their strength was their barrel fermented chardonnay 2005, it was one of the better chardonnays I have had in Long Island and was shockingly spicy for a chardonnay. The location was typical of long island wineries. The tasting menu was $5 for five tastings. A good stop even if its just for the knowledgeable staff. read more

I haven't written a lot of reviews on Yelp but when I stumbled upon the reviews for one of my favorite vineyards, Clovis Point, I had to chime in. For the two reviewers who gave one star I have to say that I am really surprised. I've been going to the Long Island wineries since there was only one - Hargrave. I encountered Clovis Point after seeing a Groupon in July 2010. The VIP tour was one of the best that I've ever had as the owner, Hal, recognized my knowledge of wine as well as my friend's complete lack of same and was able to balance his remarks for the appreciation of both of us. I was also VERY pleased with the quality of the wines as well as their intelligence in their small selection and not releasing a wine before it is right. I'd rather buy from such a high quality boutique vineyard than one with a high production geared to folks who are coming out for a fun day and a cheap high. Also to the comment about the tasting being too high compared to the Finger Lakes - well the North Fork of Long Island is NOT the Finger Lakes. Apples and oranges baby. It's also much more expensive to be a winery in Long Island than in Upstate New York - just think about the real estate. Anyway, if $5 is too much for you for a wine tasting, how is free? If you join the wine club, you only have to buy 12 bottles in one year and the tastings are free. I don't know of any other club that has such a small requirement and that let's you select which ones. Additionally, Clovis Point is very smart about their business decisions and one of them allows the price point to still be affordable compared to most of the other Long Island wineries. I highly recommend Clovis Point and the VIP tour to everyone who wants to get a sense of growing grapes on Long Island or who is looking to purchase great local wines. read more
