The market & deli across the street didn't have any non-junk food to feed our hungry kids for dinner so we wandered over to McGrew's. We didn't know we were walking in 5 minutes before closing, and would have completely understood if we'd been turned away. But the lone waitress, Vanessa, welcomed us in with a smile. Vanessa, whose personality sparkled as much as her glittery makeup, was an absolute delight and SO funny. She's the kind of small town waitress you read about in the great American novel. The one you remember years after the meal is over. The food was delicious and hand-delivered to our table by the chef and was devoured by us all. Next time we're passing through Oregon, we'll make it a point to eat here again. McGrew's is a real diamond in the rough.

My husband got the dinner and I helped him with his soup and salad. I got the steak sandwich with steak fries. If you love steak fries, this is the place to go!! Also you can't beat the candlelit table ambiance and even Andie's mints with your check. Looking forward to making this a regular stop anytime we are in the neighborhood.

The service was great and I actually appreciate a bartender who takes shots and drinks beers at the bar, cause he is probably nicer with those medications. My husband had a monte cristo resembling a child's attempt. There was old oil for the fries and I feel this is especially bad because the fries tasted like a blend of fish, onions, burnt toast and something sweet? We will not be back here. This is another example of the good-old-boy culture of Brookings, Oregon. It's not what you know or what you know how to do... it's whether or not you grew up here. I did not. I have no patience for the horrible work ethic that exemplifies this town. Bypass it. Stay on I -5. Ps the bartender was so drunk he couldn't remember the taps by the time we left one hour after we arrived. (Noon). He stood near us and complained about the cook to his friends.... Sad

I got a beer and the fish open face sandwich with sweet potato fries. The fries were nothing special. I think the sandwich would be great with the option to change the cheese type. I would love to try it with swiss cheese. The sandwich was good and tasted fresh very little seasoning so you really got to taste the fish and it was yummy. Nice big bathroom that was clean. View was not really anything good and the windows were dirty from the salt air.

Upon arriving the parking lot everything smelled pretty good, which was great. We checked in and waited over 30 minutes to be seated, busy night no reservation totally understandable. Once seated we sat there for almost another 40 minutes before a waitress would even look our way. I understand things get busy but walking past a table that has been waiting without even an acknowledgment, offer for a drink, or even a comment of "we'll be right with you" was definitely disappointing. Like I mentioned earlier, I usually love supporting small restaurants. And the food smelled good so we stayed waiting. We finally order our food, by then another half hour has passed before we get our food, which was overall underwhelming. I ordered a filet mignon which honestly seemed more like a sirloin. The crust and cook on it was good, although the flavor was lacking. I enjoyed their vegetables and mash potatoes far more than the steak itself. My partner ordered a prime rib whose only saving grace was the au jus it was served with. Overall, we felt very disappointed with the service. The food was okay but I personally wouldn't return considering the price point.

The service is fast and good, the employees engage and give samples. My family has come here for over 20 years. It has expanded and shifted, a Josephine County -country- staple. Could be a tad cleaner at times in areas where people dine/freshen up, but I believe that has to do with the amount of traffic the store receives. I always see whoever is working, working hard. *Dog friendly patio* *Public restroom, baby changing table inside*

YOU NEVER SAUSAGE A PLACE!!…read more I stop here whenever I am passing through the area. The place is very large. It's a full on meat store. They have sausage, of course, steaks, seafood, poultry, jerky, the works. They have a hard jerky and a soft jerky. I thought the hard jerky was too hard for me, but the soft jerky was perfect. I picked up some of the brisket jerky, the Japanese jerky, and their original jerky. Some of the items they make themselves, some of the items are brought in, but everything is good. They also have wines, sauces, condiments, the works. They also have a full on lunch counter, and in the back, for the kids or the kids at heart, they even have classic video games. Not only donkey Kong, but things such as pole position! They are $.50 now, instead of just a quarter, though.... I had the mushroom Swiss burger, with coleslaw, instead of fries on the side. The burger was done, medium, as I asked, and it was delicious! The coleslaw was very good, it was lightly dressed, and it was like a vinegar type dressing. The dressing wasn't too strong, it was just right. Lunch was a very large portion. Besides the jerky, I also got a blueberry sausage, and a chicken apple sausage, those are going to be excellent. For the quality of the things that you get get, the prices are reasonable. I will continue to stop here whenever I am passing through town. Thank you.

This place had a wait when we arrived because they are short staffed (who isn't these days). The business is veteran owned and they were extremely kind and added us to the list knowing we will be seated around closing time. The tuna melt blew me away! If we are ever in the area, I will be returning for this! The fish and chips were light, flaky, crunch and delicious as well. A tiny more salt and this would be the ideal receipe! I throughly enjoyed the side salad as well. It had a hint of bitterness (in thinking from the finely chopped kale) and the vinegar made it so I didn't need to add the ranch dressing. It was perfect! I would skip the garlic fries. We sat outdoors on their cute patio type enclosure. It was a little chilly but we had our sweaters! Overall, great stop and I felt good supporting a local small business as well!
