The amount of places that have tried to tell me I needed things done when I didn't need to in Houston is astounding. Clutch auto has never done that to me. They always take the time to explain the problem and offer different options for repair that fits your budget. On top of that, their customer service is top tier. Have been using this shop for years. Reason being is you can absolutely trust them to not tip you off and I know for a fact that vehicles don't leave until it's fixed. In the hierarchy of service providers, automotive repair shops often get lumped down at the bottom alongside used car salesmen and cold call investment consultants as folks who are about as trustworthy as a Fox News online poll. Sordid details of bait and switch shenanigans, counterfeit parts, maintenance "hooks", lowball verbal estimates and other scams have most of us cringing if we're in the market for a new repair shop. Who wants to go in for an oil change and find out your struts, suspension and tie rods need to be replaced and your transmission requires a major overhaul? We all know someone who has been hoodwinked in this fashion. This is why it's so important to spread the word when you find someone you can really trust. Garages that earn this trust usually build their business by word of mouth from satisfied customers. That's how I connected with Cornerstone a few years ago. My daughter's Mustang had an electrical problem that had completely befuddled my previous mechanic (who hadn't completely earned my trust). I was getting irritated with his inability to solve the problem after multiple visits. It was time to pull the plug. I asked around. The best lead actually came from my daughter's boy friend who said his family had been using Cornerstone for years. I called up his parents and got more details. His step-dad is very mechanically inclined and he gave a glowing review. I asked whether he knew of anyone else who used them. He did and I followed the trail further. These folks loved them too. They had passed my first hurdle. I brought her car in, described the problem, received a call back shortly with their solution and a quote, I gave them the go-ahead and they performed the work. Problem solved. They had passed my second hurdle. I then brought my car in for repairs/maintenance. They called me back addressing every one of my requests with a specific action, price and nothing else. They even characterized some work as required and other work as maintenance that could be deferred. I chose to defer. They worked quickly and the prices were very reasonable. They had passed my third hurdle. I've been a happy customer ever since. Just yesterday, my wife brought our minivan with over 100,00 miles on it into the shop. She described specific problems. They called her back with a big bill this time because it required a number of hours of work and new parts. The repairs did address exactly what ailed that van and I trusted them enough to authorize the $500 service. The van is humming along now. The place is run by Steve and Mark and they are about the most "regular" and "cool" guys imaginable. They greet you by name when you come in and inquire about your other family members. They play ball down at the gym with friends of yours. Automotive-wise, they're competent and professional as can be. They have my strong endorsement. If this keeps up, in another year or two, they'll pass my five-star hurdle. Complete trust would merit that. It's awfully hard to come by in this business. read more

I've had my share of bad auto experiences if you look at my past reviews, but this place was great. Mark and Lionel were very straight to the point and professional. Did not try to upsell anything like the other rat automotive places that make things up to fix. They gave reasonable options and gave you space to decide. Mark and Steve are amazing! I dropped my car off for service recently for an oil change. I also asked if they could look into a loud sound my Lexus made when I turned on the ignition, Steve called me and explained what it was and gave me options to make the best decision for my car and my budget. Okay I know this is going to sound cheesy but I finally found an auto mechanic shop that actually cares. My husband has been taking my 2005 VW Wagon Passat here for about 3 years now and each and every time they have fixed the problem and charged us a fair price. No I didn't say "fare" price I said a "FAIR" price. Out of the three years we've taken my car here we've only had one tiny problem which the owner actually cared enough to call us to help us fix the A/C problem in our 100 degree weather.......who does that in 2014? They do. We've since purchased another car and guess what when we're in need we'll be taking this one to Cornerstone Automotive as well, but hopefully not to soon, LOL. Sure enough the battery terminals had corrosion. Mark clean them and washed the top of the battery. I offer to pay him, he said there was not need. They talked down to me like I was an absolute idiot and one manager was very demeaning. The manager and owner do not communicate very well with eachother. They had to tell me how they are a relationship business that is there for the community. When you have to affirm yourself to a customer, you know you have problems. Avoid this place. read more
