Never Again - Grossly Overpriced and Unreasonable I had an extremely disappointing experience with this plumbing company and cannot recommend them. The Issue: I was charged $420 for replacing two shower valves--a job that took the plumber approximately 20 minutes of actual hands-on work. The parts themselves cost around $40, meaning I paid $380 for less than half an hour of labor. When I Questioned the Cost: I called the owner, Jim, to understand the pricing structure and asked about his hourly rate. His response? He doesn't work on an hourly rate. When pressed to explain how he arrived at $420, he couldn't provide a clear answer or breakdown. It's hard to believe that $420 was simply a fair, calculated price rather than an arbitrary number picked to maximize profit from an unsuspecting customer. The Bottom Line: This wasn't just expensive--it was exploitative pricing for a straightforward repair. Any reputable plumber should be able to clearly explain their pricing methodology, whether it's hourly, flat-rate, or based on a pricing guide. The refusal to justify a $420 charge for 20 minutes of work is a red flag. My Recommendation: Save yourself the money and frustration. There are plenty of honest, fairly-priced plumbers in the area who value transparency and won't take advantage of homeowners. This isn't one of them. read more

We just had CLW out to the house to replace a water heater. This is the third time we have worked with them. Twice now the owner (Jim) has come out when the rest of the staff was busy to make sure our plumbing emergency didn't get any worse and fix the problem at hand. Jim and his son (Wes) worked until 8pm to complete the installation. The housing for our water heater was custom built for the old unit. They had to make alterations to the housing and I was very impressed with the work they did! This was all done for the price they quoted me up front. in the timeframe they promised. There have been no surprises with any of the jobs done by CLW. I now feel confident that any issues that arise will be handled by professionals that I trust. Lastly, it is great to be able to work with a true family business. The pride of craftsmanship is obvious in their work. Would certainly recommend! read more

CLW Plumbing came to my 1948 house to unclog my bath tub drain. The old plumbing has been hard to work with in the past. CLW plumber showed up on time. He was friendly and confident he could unclog the line. In about 15 minutes of persistent abd knowledgeable work the pipe was flowing smoothly. The price was very affordable. I highly recommend CLW. Typically, I do not write reviews, but in this case, I feel compelled to do so. I recently moved into an older home, and with that, the problems that come with it. So, when I started to notice a problem developing in a back bathroom, I started to get worried. The thing about plumbers is that you have to be able to trust them. What do I know about plumber? Despite the amount of time I spend on the toilet, nada. So when a plumber says that they need to replace a valve or change the carburetor, as a consumer, I typically nod and ask a few questions to convey an air of knowledge, before getting to the real question: How much? So imagine my anxiety when I was convince that the underlying issues I was confronted with was going to be work into the thousands. Jim came in, assessed the problem and did the work required. He adjusted how he approached the problem throughout the appointment to get the job done. He had a great chance to take advantage of my niavete, but didn't and used it as an opportunity to educate me. He was professional, courteous and cleaned up after himself. I was referred to CLW be a friend after receiving some unusually high quotes and negative attitudes from 2 different large Phoenix plumbing operations. I was quoted by one of the large plumbers $700 to snake my main drain line and given multiple scenarios where I would be on the hook for much more if anything went wrong with the my old pipes while snaking the drain. I reached out to CLW, they came the following morning, assessed my situation, snaked the drain in question for $200 and completed my job within an hour. The CLW staff are friendly, professional and have earned my trust. I will use CLW for all of my future plumbing needs and will refer them to any friends or family that need a good, honest plumber. The first time I used CLW Plumbing was for a leak from the gas shut off to my fireplace. The gas company found a leak and shut off the gas to the condo (and the building) until someone could come out to fix it. Talk about panic! I contacted CLW and Jim Wheat, the owner, came out. He assessed the problem, for my fireplace and the others in the building. He repaired the problem in short order at a very reasonable cost to the owners. The gas company came back out, tested the fireplaces and gave all of us clearance to turn the gas back on to the building. What a great job he did for all of us!! About 6 months later, my water heater went out. I spoke with Jim. He sent out an employee to replace it. Adrian could not have been better. Professional, timely and affable. Did a terrific job and did it quickly. Way better than the last company I used. I have used enough "contractors" over time to know this is one company you want in your contact list. Truly, nothing but enjoyable from the call for an appt to Jim crawling in my attic on this hot June a.m. He just couldn't have been nicer and helped with a few other small things which is totally worth it as I get older, lol. I am a customer with very high expectations. The crew at CLW has, without exception, exceeded those expectations each of the three times we've used them. Aside from the work, which has been flawless, and the price, which has been competitive, there's something else about these using these guys that puts my mind at ease and, for lack of more eloquent way to put it, makes me like them! I noticed it from the first time I used them. The plumber was extraordinarily friendly. He worked surprisingly quickly, but it was clear that his efficiency was a result of his skill in his trade, not haste. The repair has been fine and we're 2-3 years out. The second call, some time later, further reinforced my sentiment about CLW. Mark came out because I had a mysterious leak which occurred only at night, somewhere in my kitchen wall and dripped out from an overhanging corner onto my counter, leaving a puddle for me each morning. Great, an intermittent problem. This should be fun. When Mark arrived, we chatted momentarily then he explained very clearly how the job would be charged. If I remember correctly, there was a leak-finding charge and then a charge to repair the leak. I agreed, and Mark went to work. Still shooting the breeze with me, Mark cut through the drywall once, determined where the leak was almost instantly, cut another hole to provide access to the temporary compression fitting which had obviously been installed as a permanent solution by our remodel contractor a year or two ago, then fixed the problem. Done. The whole thing was fast. The charge was absurdly reasonable. I was super-relieved. The third time I called CLW, it all became clear. Jim, whom I learned was the owner of the business, came to the house. I found Jim to be the nicest, most genuine guy you could ever hope to meet. As we talked, I learned that his business is small - 7 people in total if I remember correctly. Some of those people are related to him, including Mark. It was obvious Jim takes pride in his work and in his company. In Jim, I saw a guy who doesn't *write* a mission statement for his company to follow, he *lives* his mission statement and his example defines the culture of the company. It's from him that the insistence on flawless work stems. It's from him that this friendly, individual treatment originates. And obviously it's him that is responsible for the reasonable pricing structure. The end result is a great company that I foresee using for all of my plumbing needs for as long as I live in Phoenix. If you're in need of a plumber, I'd definitely recommend you try them and I hope and expect your experiences will be equally as great as mine! Note: While I realize this review is ridiculously complimentary, it's soley because of the powerful impression my interactions with CLW left on me. It became a little more urgent as a backup occurred, and fortunately they were able to accommodate me the same day, get the problem solved, and suggest some maintenance that I perform regularly to keep my pipes clean and free of any blockages. We've used CLW for about 5 years now and we cannot say enough good about them. We have watched them grow and it's no surprise with the excellent service they give. We have an old house so lots of need for a good plumber. Today we had a rocky toilet that they had installed almost 2 years ago.
