FOOD/DRINKS - Bun Rieu Oc: Crab Noodle Soup with Snails. This was better than the last time I had the bun rieu here. The broth was good. There wasn't a lot of rieu which is my favorite part. I ordered without green onions and cilantro but they left it in. Our server didn't write down our order so we figured it wouldn't come out correctly. 4/5 - Soda Chanh: this is typically made with club soda but it was made with sprite here. So it was overly sweet. I couldn't drink it. 2.5/5 SERVICE: The food came out quickly. We ordered bun bo hue to-go but it was brought out for here. I think the young man who took our order really should have written things down. I ordered a number 40 to go. Very very disappointing! They packed up my food like I wasn't going to look at it! My order is supposed to have pork chops, shredded pork and veggies for $18.95. So when I looked at it I said where are the pork chops why did I get this kind of meat. He said we ran out of pork chops okay and you wasn't going to tell me?.. where is my shredded pork? I have not been here before but I was impressed. I was craving for bun rieu and I looked at pictures at different locations and thought I'd choose this one. I parked in a plaza that looked a little sketchy. But when I went inside the restaurant is nice and clean. They have seatings on the side as well. I was seated right away and I ordered bun rieu oc. They didn't have young coconut or avocado shake so I just got water instead. I got a large bun rieu oc and being pregnant I couldn't eat the whole thing. So I asked for a Togo cup and fill it up with all of the soup and topping and then start eating the rest. I was so full at the end and still have a lot of left over which was expected. Nothing beats a nice steaming bowl of BBH on a crispy fall day, and Co Do has one of the better bowls of BBH in the Sacramento area. I haven't been to Co Do in a hot minute and like another review mentioned, the broth doesn't have as much depth of flavor as I remember it having. Nonetheless, it still hit the spot for me. I also had a bit of a language barrier issue, which just goes to show that the food is lovingly made. When I asked for shrimp paste to add to my BBH, I had to show the owners a photo of it for them to understand my request (I should probably learn some Vietnamese tbh). However, they were very happy to oblige, and even brought extra limes when I asked. The shrimp paste was necessary to elevate the broth for sure, so I would definitely ask for it if the funk is up your alley to boost the flavor. The noodles were so thick and slurpable, and the veggies and herbs were fresh. The meat was tender and the portion size for the large was perfect for my early lunch. I also ordered an iced Vietnamese coffee to go with my BBH and that was the perfect strength without being bitter, and it definitely got me through a full afternoon of volunteering at the California Raptor Center. While Co Do is tucked away in the corner of a not-so-nice strip mall, the interior of the restaurant is clean and modern, and there is ample parking in front where you can keep an eye on your car. I'm honestly glad I went back and while I generally prefer my favorite place down the street that serves their BBH in a hot stone bowl, Co Do clearly has its own home-y recipe and I don't want to directly compare the two restaurants since I like them both for different reasons. The majority of everyone who sat down to eat before and after me were also ordering BBH, so it's safe to say that this place can still hold its own and I would love to return again soon. read more

Co Do is located in a strip mall off Stockton Blvd. It's got a decent sized parking lot. I ordered the seafood udon soup and my mom got the chicken vermicelli dish. The quality of the protein in my soup was just ok, and the udon looked homemade. I doctored up the broth with fish sauce and was satisfied (although this is nowhere the quality of the bowl I had in Saigon). My mom thought her dish tasted great. Must be a change in ownership. I tried the large Bun Bo Hue Dac Biet instead of my usual regular BBH. The price was $14.95 a month ago. Now it's $17.95. I open the box and soup container and I get 2 pieces of pork blood and a ugly looking tiny beef rib with mostly fat, 2 pieces of Hue style ham and a generic bag of raw sliced beef that they usually give for pho. Got seated immediately. Came for a late lunch. We were hungry. I ordered a large bun bo hue. My cousins ordered an xlarge hu tieu and mi quang. We also order the crab cha gio. Ummm. The Bun Rieu was okay. I have to say this isn't the first time that either my noodles or pork balls had this "spoiling" taste in my mouth. Kinda ruins the appetite. I had my order ToGo and I wasn't going to drive another hour just to return my two items. Management should really check and make sure that their food is as fresh as possible. If it looks or tastes funny then throw it out! Don't give that to the public. Gross. I will give the BBH another chance. It's a popular dish so maybe I won't get spoiled noodles or meat. I ordered online using their web service, pre paid and arrived 5 mins after the eta'd time given to me. I tell the front clerk my order and he says to wait 5 minutes. No problem, I take a seat and wait for 15 minutes to which I ask again how much longer? 5 more minutes he says. I'd appreciate the honestly from the get go and that it would take 15-20 minutes. The food is decent for that kind of a wait in this area and the restaurant had guests that were barely arriving, and they were given priority. In a nutshell; If you're craving some good viet. Food and don't want to wait too long to get seated or after ordering, this is a good place to consider. If you've been to any viet. Food establishment, you'll notice most of them seem to give off a very particular ambiance and feel to it that the moment you walk in you'd immediately be like, yup this fits the bill, and this place has that. Parking wasn't all that difficult, was immediately seated, and Food didn't take too long to arrive after ordering. The food was good. Always liked that a small bowl option in most viet. Places is always enough to satiate my hunger, and this place is the same. Unfortunately, none of the other drink options was available at the time besides soda and tea, but nonetheless, the food was pretty good. The service is what you'd expect of that of a local southeast Asia establishment so they won't always be coming by asking if everything's alright, so may have to kind of call upon them which I honestly don't mind but just to note, they are still accommodating and still meet you with a smile. For appetizers, we tree the Banh it ram. This dish was doughy but decent. The is a fired of fried rice cake topped in a steam rice cake filled with meat and shrimp. Our go to here are the Bun Bo Hue (BBH) and the Mi Quang. This place has one if the best bun Bo hues. The favor is always on point with lots of protein. The Mi Quang is excellent. JUST AN UPDATE to old loyal customers. Co'do used to be me and my boyfriend's favorite spot! Every single bowl was delicious and had the best size!! It was a secret spot no one really went to. Only real ones know CODO. However, I think there's new owners or something. Ever since they remodeled the restaurant and changed the male workers, the Portions became smaller and pricer! The old workers knew me and my boyfriend and suddenly it's all brand new and new people? Back to the portion size and food. It seems like even the XL is a small. I feel like they put the same amount of noodle in any of those bowl size... Also I don't think it's right to up the price and make the portions smaller. If prices were going up and sizes were the same, that would've been fine. There's definitely a bigger language barrier. I feel like having a language barrier is fine, however we got the entire meal wrong. Such as the bowls and drinks. Lastly, I noticed that a lot of the items on the menu aren't actually available anymore. Such as drinks and certain dishes. I'm honestly kinda bummed. After a couple visits it's just an okay place for me. On the first visit I took advantage of the outdoor space on a mild afternoon. I had the beef stew with egg noodles and it was tasty enough. On the downside the wait staff was all but absent for the duration. I was also put off by a table behind me that thought it was fine to light up their cigarettes. Not at all a welcome addition to my dining experience. I had to walk in side to pay the bill and was satisfied enough with the food that I expected to return soon to try some other dishes that have had rave reviews. I made my return about a month later and was really looking forward to the Mì Quảng that so many have written about. When the dish arrived I was certainly impressed by the visual presentation. I was happy the broth was on the side given the triple digit heat. I ate the dish mostly dry and found it to be good but not great in contrast to my other times eating this dish at other establishments. My dining partner had the roast duck with egg noodles and found the duck to be both over cooked and dry. No doubt it was not prepared that day and was likely at least a couple days old. All in all I cant imagine returning anytime soon there are just to many other solid options for Vietnamese food in the area. On the plus side the prices are more than fair. Then again the other options in the area are almost all well priced. I am looking forward to getting back to some of my usual spots as things move to being more fully opened. read more

Hole-in-the-wall restaurant! Saw that their specialties were mi quang and com hen, and not many places offer this. Upon walking in, I noticed that it smelled odd...probably the mix of all the food smells...and mind you, I'm used to fish sauce and what have you, but it that wasn't quite it. I also noticed that the staff weren't wearing masks, which is totally fine considering the mask mandate is lifted (just pointing it out for those who want to know). I also wanted to use the sanitizer dispenser at the front, but nothing came out...When we got the menus, the covers looked greasy... As for the mi quang and com hen, my friend and I shared them both (got the small size). I think the small size is just enough if you don't want to be stuffed to the max...pretty generous serving. I noticed the server who brought out the dish had his thumb inside my bowl when he was holding it, which it looked like touched the cracker...bleh... but the food was pretty fresh and delicious. Both dishes come with a side of broth. The mi quang is the thick yellow noodles that have the black sesame fried crackers, vegetables/salad (lettuce, bean sprouts, mint, purple cabbage, lime), seasoned pork belly, and seasoned shelled shrimp. The broth on the side tastes kind of like bun bo hue soup, which was pretty good. It also had some sliced onions and green onions. As for the com hen, which is the baby clams over rice, it had a lot of rice, really tiny clams, lettuce and some other veggies, lime, and the black sesame fried crackers. The side broth tasted a little more seafood-y and had a little bit of baby clams in there as well. Overall, I think the food is pretty delicious, unique, and authentic, although I question the cleanliness of the shop. Pretty good food here for my first visit. I had the beef stew. Only came with mint and been sprouts inside the soup was onions and carrots. No jalapeños or Bok choy. The meat was about 2/3 pieces in a large order the rest was muscle or tendon very hard to chew. Came here with my parents for Sunday lunch and was pretty disappointed with the food and service. Ordered 4 entrees with 1 appetizer. Appetizer and 3 entrees came however the waiter forgot 1 of the entrees. Eventually had to cancel it since everyone was done eating already at our table and I was no longer hungry. P.S. Item #45 does not look anything like the picture shown on their menu. Picture and detailed description of the entree states it comes with egg over rice however when it came it looked nothing like the picture. I also tried to order a shake and waiter stated they didn't have ANY flavor available at all. Why have an extensive drink menu but not have any available? On a weekend too? Came here on the search for the best bun bo hue (BBH) in Sac and was convinced by all the reviews. I went here on a Sunday morning and easily got a table. Service and cleanliness was typical of a family-owned restaurant in South Sac. Now, for the BBH -- I'm not sure if I came on a bad day, but it was basically a light, almost watery, soup with a lot of flavor-less hot oil sitting at the top. It was not spicy at all and I was too taken aback by how watery the soup tasted. I tried to remedy the soup with condiments - but you know, if a bowl of BBH is good on its own, you shouldn't be adding any other condiments as it'll ruin the authenticity and taste of BBH. Unfortunately for me, there was no way to add or fix the flavor of my soup and I didn't even finish beyond 25% of my bowl. I do hope that others have a better experience than me! read more

Had a very good Hủ Tiếu Khô at this place. Unfortunately there was no quail egg (I think you'd have to order extra) which is a staple in this dish. However they gave lots of meat and seafood and the sauce was delicious. My friend had Cm Hến and we also shared a dish of Bánh bèo. A piece of Vietnam here in the States.
