Beans are the best thing here. The brisket tastes like roast beef you can buy from the deli department, but warmer. Cornbread tastes like a bland white cake. read more

I felt Coach's was one of the best I've ever been to. I've had famous BBQ from places such as Blacks in Lockhart, Tx and Sonny Bryan's in Dallas, and I'd put this with them if not ahead. The brisket was tender and had a great taste. The beans had nice kick. Finally, the atmosphere was very polished and well done. Was passing through McGregor and just looking for anything to eat when I stumbled upon this place. The restaurant is very clean with a nice bbq-joint-meets-sports bar atmosphere (minus the bar). I had the chopped brisket sandwich and my g/f had the smoked turkey sandwich. The sandwiches were served dry, so you're feel to put as much or little BBQ sauce as you like. The two sauces at the tables were tasty in their own ways. Also had a side of mac'n'cheese that was also delicious. It wasn't smothered/swimming in fake cheese like many bbq joint tend to do. Instead, it was a lighter macaroni with real melted cheese on top. I like to eat on the healthier/lighter side so I appreciated that (as well as the sandwiches served dry). Great food and fun family atmosphere! We had the best time with the family. Everyone was able to pick exactly what they wanted off the pit and the amount they wanted! The kids loved the turkey and mac and cheese! The chicken was the best I had ever had. To top it off there was a great patio, playscape, washer boards, big screen tv, corn hole game for all to enjoy outside! We were able to visit and enjoy an adult beverage while the kids were having a great time playing. We will definitely be back! read more

I live in Waco and went to Coach's a month or so ago with a private party. I ordered the 'Home Run'. This is a baked potato adequately named! It has brisket, bacon, sausage, cheese, crispy fried jalapeños, and some kind of awesome BBQ sour cream. I've been thinking about it every since! My husband was gonna get a brisket plate, but when he saw them making my potato, he got the same thing! I was in McGregor today for work and stopped by to get us two Homerun potatoes!! So disappointed. I had a pound of sliced brisket, mustard potato salad and broccoli salad to go. The brisket was tough and dry and I got no sauce, which it dreadfully needed. The flavor was below mediocre. The serving of broccoli salad was half full. The potato salad was average. The price for this below average adventure was a little steep based on the quality. Not sure but doesn't the standard to-go bar-b-que have pickles, onions, sauce and utensils? If they were available no one pointed them out. Other patrons were having trouble finding someone to help them also. Come on guys...people in Texas know what good bar-b-que tastes like. My wife and I eat out a lot, and always enjoy good BBQ. We are new to the area so we thought we'd try Coach's in McGregor. What a big disappointment! This has to be the worse dining experience we've had in a long time. I had a sliced beef plate with two sides. The meat was grey and looked like a roast cooked in an oven rather than a smoker. The guy slicing the meat didn't know what he was doing. He cut the meat with...rather than across...the grain so it was stringy and chewy. The portion size was about half what would be served elsewhere. The pinto beans and mac 'n cheese were not fresh and tasted like they had been sitting in a warming pot for quite some time. My wife had a baked potato. She had to send the first one back because it wan't good. The second one wasn't much better but it was edible. The only things we had that were fresh were our drinks. I don't know where all the 4 and 5 star reviews come from. That certainly wasn't our level of experience. We will not be back. read more

We stop here about once a month and get brisket, pulled pork, and sausage. We are not fond of the chicken, but everything else we've had is yummy. Great choice of sides: baked beans, pinto beans, two potato salads, corn, etc. Also cobbler. Since we live in Waco, this is a short drive to a nice change from our usual haunts. Loved my meal at Coach's Smoke! We went on a recommendation from an employee at Magnolia Market, as we were visiting from Ohio, and everyone enjoyed their meals. The Mac and cheese was so good - I wish I could've brought some back to Cleveland! I'm now on a search for a copycat recipe, it was that good. And for those that like pebble ice (think Sonic and Chick-fil-A) they have great ice! read more

I felt that the bbw had no flavor to it. The service was good and the staff was friendly. I had the brisket and my husband had the turkey brest. We were both underwhelmed by it. But it wasn't bad tasting at all. The cole slaw was some cabbage with mayo. The beans, again, no flavor. My wife and I were out for a fourth drive on the bike and just stopped in for lunch. The BBQ was really good and the atmosphere was country. They had a listing for live bands on the weekend, washers, beanbag toss, playground for kids, inside/outside dining, you really should stop by and give them a try. I think you'll like it. read more

We eat there several times a year for special days like birthdays and such. Food has always been great, but not tonight. Our anniversary and could have gone anywhere but decided to go to Coach's. The brisket was very disappointing. For getting the lean, it was extremely fatty and tough. Kind of spongey consistency. So disappointed. The sides were ok but definitely not up to normal. They do have great Diet Coke Please step it back up as we love the place. read more

My family has chosen Coach's as our weekly lunch spot after we celebrate mass. After trying out several places Coach's is 'the place'! Worst I have ever had at a restaurant. I visited on Sunday 9/30/2012 at 130pm and wondered why there was only 1 car in parking lot and 1 person eating inside. I had hoped the Bar B Que was better than the vibes I was getting of first sight. I ordered to go 1 pound of sliced and 1 pound of sausage . When I got home I sampled the sausage and it was as good as any I have eaten but the beef was the portion that you cut off and use as CHOPPED barbque. I estimated that 25% of the beef was FAT that all places trim from the order. Very little flavor. First and last dollar I spend there. read more

I have heard that this place was a great place to eat. my friend and i tried it this evening and i have to say, it was not very good at all. i had the baby back ribs which were not only tough, but very dry and tasteless. the granny's mac and cheese looked and tasted as if it had been setting in a room temperature warmer all day. the baked beans were the best part of the meal. the corn bread muffins were tasty, but again, slightly room temperature and very dry (as if they too had been setting all day. i will not return. they should take lessons from the staff at Mabel's BBQ in Brooklyn, NY...BEST BBQ ever! fall off the bone tender and flavorful ribs and melt in your mouth brisket! read more

This place hasn't been great the last few times I have came here. The chopped sandwich has been very fatty, and just not that good.

i was excited to go friday (1-13-12). i got 4 ribs and my wife got three slices of brisket. we both got 2 sides and tea. almost $32.00 pretty pricey. the meat was pretty fatty and the ribs were fall off the bone tender. the bbq sauce was on the table. wow ! no flavor at all. restaurant pretty chilly. not a good expierence! if this restuarant is going to make it, it needs to improve alot on flavor and ambience to make the worth the trip out to mcgregor. i'll come out there for luigi's and the coffee shop but not for bbq read more
