The waitress seemed pissed when we weren't ready to order, and even more upset when we ordered water & soda. Don't worry girlfriend I tip on service not the check! They brought the pizza to the table placed it on the stand, and left. No plates, no napkins, no silverware. Our waitress was no where to be found. Chased down another employee for help. I LOVE Coal Fire! The crust is super thin and soooo good! I'm a huge fan of the signature sauce too - it's very different than any other I've tried. I've always had good service - even when asking to switch tables after we'd already gotten our drinks. Location, decor, service, cleanliness, all good. Menu, so-so at best. BUT- They do not serve coffee or hot tea, and they do not serve dessert. That's bad enough - but we were offended by the reason for this omission: We were told that tea and coffee drinkers, and dessert eaters, linger too long. Over 6 months ago a very polite man came to our door...we thought it was just another solicitor but it turns out that it was the owner of Coal Fire coming to bring us a menu and tell us that they are coming to the new shopping center. He was very nice and polite (as I would expect anyone trying to get there business out there would be) We decided then and there that we would give is a shot, its only 2 streets away... We waited a while for the newness to fade away from the shopping center and decided to go tonight... First of all the place is beautiful. Very nicely decorated but you know its a place where you can go in jeans and a sweatshirt. They have a dining area and a bar area that is separate from the dining area. That is a nice thing because when in the dining area you don't even know there is a bar. you can't hear the TVs or the bar patrons The food was Delicious! and Our server "Nikki" was EXTREMELY bubbly and nice, she had great energy and was happy as a clam. She started by asking if we had ever been to Coal Fire when we replied "no" she happily explained the pizza sauces to us and other items on the menu. As an appetizer we had the baked crab mac and cheese (to DIE FOR! ) huge lumps of crab, penne pasta and very creamy cheese. It was wonderful and I will be craving it from now on! and it could easily be a main dish for someone. We also split a pizza...I think the pizza was pretty good in comparison to other wood fire pizza places...it was cooked perfectly! Other reviews slam this place over mediocre pasta dishes and salads...NEWS FLASH this is first and foremost a pizza place. If you want good pasta dishes go to an Italian restaurant! If you want a good salad then go to a salad bar! I don't know anyone who goes to a place called "Coal Fire Pizza" and expects to have amazing pasta and salad.... I agree with many people here so far. The pizza is good, but overpriced. Toppings are expensive and they spread them on thin. The three sauce choices is a good idea, but break down into normal sauce, way too sweet, and way too spicy. Those things so far would earn 4 out of 5 stars from me, with one star coming off from the price issue. After all, they're going for gourmet style. Two more stars come off for bad service. The wait staff seems to be consistently pretty girls who don't know how to do their jobs well. One time I sat at the bar to drink one beer. The bartender poured my drink and generally acted annoyed with my presence. When I asked for change for a twenty, she gave me four 5 dollar bills. Yeah. I don't think you earned a 5 dollar tip, sweetheart. Reading the reviews and learning of their table turning mentality explains some things to me. We are not on this side of town often, but they had a decent Groupon offer that I immediately jumped upon. The baked wings smelled delicious, but I decided to save room for dinner. My fiance ate them all up though! I love the fact that the pizzas are all fresh and on a nice and crispy flat bread. Was going to sit in dinning room but told if we sat in bar pizzas were 1/2 off for 12". Real brick oven, real ingredients, Friendly even at 11pm and they close at 12am. Ordered 3 pizzas between the 2 of us. The white pizza with chicken - very good. Could use a little more garlic in the sauce but good A classic with procuitto, and roasted red peppers - I highly recommend this! The sauce is tangy, the procuitto sliced thin and flavorful, and the roasted red peppers? Let me tell you, flavor explosion, ka-boom in your mouth. You would think that after this the signature with pepperoni would be just bland and plain but you'd be wrong! Their signature sauce with the sweet and spicy...OMG, that flavor and spice, my taste buds doing a happy dance! I Don't even know if I noticed the pepperoni since I wanted to bathe in the sauce. I've been to many pizza places over many cities and I have to say this is one of the best pizzas I had in a long time. I'm tired of these places that simply smother bland dough with bland sauces and heap on mozzarella and call it pizza. Coal Fire's sauces are without a doubt the best I have tasted in a long time. And the balance between the cheese and sauce is spot on. Rustic Red(signature sauce, red onions and red peppers) was the first pizza I had. Their sandwich's arent bad either. On my 2nd trip there I had the Ribeye and onion rings. The onion rings are well done, not overpowering onion flavor and you can tell they are hand made and not shipped in frozen. The Ribeye has great beef flavor and comes with caramelized onions. Only complaint is I think I may be a bit overpriced at 10.95 for a 9 inch sub. To Mitch, while charcoal is wood, the coal used here is Anthracite Coal which burns smokeless and much hotter than charcoal. read more

We were so pleasantly surprised by this place when we stopped in before doing our grocery shopping this afternoon. Full of people, but still pretty quiet is a rare find. It has a high end feeling of someone caring genuinely about the food and the quality, and the coal they use really does add its own flavor. We shared the calamari and margarita pizza. The calamari is wonderfully crunchy and fresh - not rubbery at all - with a DELICIOUS sauce that kind of tastes like pickled hot and sweet peppers. The pizza had a wonderful fresh taste and so much fresh basil, but the superstar of the dish was the crust. Thin, crispy, smokey, charred, sturdy enough to stand up to the toppings, who could ask for more? The pizza costs a bit more than ...you know... something that isn't really food, but I thought it was well worth the asking price. The only slightly awkward thing was the cost of the beers. I was so excited that they had such a great selection of beers, but they were really pricey. I know Maryland is loading up the taxes, so its not really the restaurant's fault, but we had 2 beers with our meal and that almost doubled the total price. Still, I would be back. read more

So I will start off by saying that my boyfriend and I love the pizza at coal fire, in particular because of the signature sauce that is slightly sweet, and we love the 4 cheese prosciutto balls. Those yummy cheese balls are a big part of the reason why we come so often. However as I currently sit here in coal fire I can't help but be dissapointed once again that they ran out of the cheese balls ...again. This is the 3rd time in a row we have visited this site to be told they either "Don't have those today" later to be corrected to "Oh we ran out" once I comment how this happened last time. The server did apologize and I realize this is not her fault, but this is the 3rd time this has happened and I would think they would start making more if they are that popular. Ok so my partner and I decided to try this place seeing as we pass by it everyday. So we walk in on a calm Wednesday night. Not busy at all. The hostess greeted us and showed us to a cramped table in the corner. When we asked if we could sit in one of the ample open booths, she rudely scolded us saying "those are saved for larger parties". There was hardly anyone else there. After we sat down no one even cam through the front door for 20 minutes! The pizza we ordered was a little pricey ($13) for a simple margarita pizza with cheese, basil, and classic sauce. The crust was fantastic, it was crispy and had a smokiness to it. The basil was fairly non-existant, while the cheese was greasy and tough. This pizza was nothing like we experienced at the wood fired pizzeria we love back in Buffalo! They need to get FRESH mozzarella in here pronto! Probably won't go back again. read more

If you like thin crust, you'll like the pizza at Coal Fire. If you're not a fan of thin crust, you probably should pick a different pizza joint to hit up. The sauce is a little sweet for my taste (even the spicy versions) but it matches fairly well with prosciutto, red peppers, and fresh basil. It would be nice if they had a few more topping options (perhaps eggplant or some other vegetables), but the available toppings are fairly solid choices. Every time I've been to Coal Fire, I've sat at the bar, so this review is exclusively focused on that side -- but the bar service has been impeccable. Beer selection is small but well chosen (relying pretty heavily on Flying Dog beers), pizza is very quick to come out, and the non-pizza options (including salads and pasta) are typically tasty if you're in to that. read more

I call to order pickup and requested to order pizza off the kids menu and first she tells me she can get it and my order will be 20 min then i ask what my total is and she puts me on hold. A manager comes on the phone to tell me they don't have kids pizza anymore because they pre portion the size of pizza and can't possibly cut dough to kids size tonight. It's too much to ask to cut 3 inches off of dough here. I ask if they can make an exception and she puts me on hold to ask. Then "Paige" gets on the phone and acts brand new "how can I help you?" Excuse me? Who are you? "I'm a manager"... ok.. what? I was holding to see if the last "manager" could possibly ask the kitchen to cut 3 inches of dough off for my daughters portion of our large order. It's totally impossible.
