OK, we read the other reviews beforehand, but decided to see for ourselves. The exterior is well-maintained, and the interior is clean and uncluttered; in fact, it looks to be recently painted. Mid-afternoon, it was no surprise to find just one server handling maybe four customers; we made it a half-dozen. We were greeted pleasantly and seated immediately. Our order was taken a reasonable time after receiving the menu. So far, so good. Our food was delivered quicker than expected, hot, and just as requested. The food was as good as it gets for standard cafe fare, and we've certainly had worse. I enjoyed the chicken noodle soup (homemade noodles), and my wife thought the French Fries were remarkably good. In short, we found nothing about the place or the food that ought to be dreaded by anyone venturing into this place. As for the service, we have no complaints. Our server was attentive, but not intrusive, throughout our visit. She even invited us to come back again. We probably will. read more

I would never return to this restaurant again. The reviews were not good. We were warned by people that live there not to go. But we did not listen. We went. We were ignored most the time as our server had to take care of the register. The owner sat at the counter and ate her lunch and the other server was servicing the other side of the restaurant. Everyone on our side was neglected. The table next to us had to go up to the counter and order dessert as they have no server come back to them. The table next to us got up and left. Worst service ever especially by the owner who should've seen our server was busy doing what she was told by the owner. Therefore there were tables that were not taken care of. And the food was absolutely disgusting. My burger was so greasy both the top and the bottom bun or saturated in Grease. They stop serving breakfast at stupid time like 1 o'clock but the cafés open until three. I don't remember the exact times but it was ridiculous. No. The few times I've visited Anita's Coastal Cafe over the years, the answer always seems to be "no." No, we are out of the advertised special. That happened twice in one week. No, we'd rather not give you the wifi password if you have a laptop because people stay too long; go to the other restaurant in town for wifi. Had a good breakfast there once. Otherwise, the food has been mediocre Had a BLT with a pickle for a side and water to drink. Bill: $9.99. The good news is that Anita's is open on Mondays...but I'll try never to go back. read more

My husband and I moved to the area last year and when Anita's opened we had to try it out. It's become the place we go to eat out. They have a nice menu and enough of a variety that you can get something new every time. My husband loves the veggie omelet and I like the French dip. The clam chowder is good and the fish and chips too .. and when I'm in a bacon cheeseburger mood with fries I'm never disappointed. The breakfast menu is good and occasionally they offer eggs benedict - my personal favorite.. I just can't seem to make it there on the days they offer it... they do have outdoor seating but you have to buy the food as take out and then go outside to eat it. read more

DON'T waste your money! The worst large shrimp salad ever! Oops I guess they "forgot" to put the prawns on it, the waitress was kind enough to charge us for the smaller size salad but it was nothing more than a large dinner salad, boiled egg and 5 small shrimp. I gave this one star because yelp won't let me do zero. We went in at 9:00 AM Sunday and there were several open tables but because there were only two of us they wanted to seat up at a tiny table in the middle of the room. Then after looking around I saw that the carpet was so filthy I couldn't eat there anyway. When this place first opened we got good food and ok service. The morning after Christmas, we decided to try this place for breakfast. The weirdness started when we got out of our car and were being stared at by a couple of old coots sitting at the counter. They continued to stare as we walked in, and didn't reply to a greeting. The waitress didn't greet us but told us we could sit anywhere, which was literally possible because there was only one table occupied. After choosing a table, the waitress said that if there were only two of us we should move to a smaller table because it was the day after Christmas..... like there is going to be a rush on Anita's? That was enough for us, we left with the waitress saying that wasn't 'very nice' of us. HELLO!!?!?!!! Ever heard of customer service? On vacation with the fam damnly and decided to have lunch in Ocean Park rather than drive to Long Beach. When we got there, we were quickly attended to. Water, menus, etc. Things started to go downhill when we got our chowder. As we started eating, we noticed a rather distinct sour taste to it. I wasn't bothered too much by it, but the rest of the group was off put by it. Come to find out, they put vinegar in their chowder. Who does that? Then we get our fish and chips. Tiny pieces of halibut, small dish of coleslaw, small pile of REALLY GOOD fries. Definitely not worth $10.95. Halibut was good, but the pieces were so small you needed a microscope to see them. Coleslaw was flavorless and should have had the vinegar instead of the chowder. After all this, the waitress was kind enough to remove one of the chowders from our ticket because one of us couldn't eat it. Service: outstanding. Atmosphere: superb. Foood: left a lot to be desired. read more
