    Fish and chips
    Gary Q.

We stopped by this restaurant last year, and the food was good enough that we decided to give it another go. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The interior is plain, but not boring. The theme is nautical, as one would expect: Oars, octopi, anchors, and ships' wheels on the walls, some of them bordering on humor, suggesting that they aren't entirely stodgy. It's clean[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The play Country music on the PA.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Note for professional coffee drinkers: They will get you half and half if you ask for it, but they bring out non-dairy creamer first. The service is friendly, but it seemed understaffed while we were there this time. The food: Oyster shooters: Enough horseradish for a change. Wonderful. Cod fish and chips. We split them. The coleslaw was a tad tame. Nothing special. Spartan, like the interior. The tartar sauce was standard, but not too sweet. The fish was delicate with a light breading. No oil taste. Not bad. The fries were good with salt alone - the hallmark of good fries. They had a coating for extra crispiness, possible flour or cornstarch (maybe both). Everything was good, but not adventurous. We got a slice of thick toast with the meal that seemed unnecessary. The coffee tastes like the percolated kind that I had as a child. It brought back fond memories of formica tables, cigarette smoke, and a dog under the table. The food is plain and serviceable, like the interior, but it's also solid, just like you need sometimes when you don't want to take chances, and need some good eats.

Check your to go orders! I ordered food to go, got to my hotel and realized it was missing an item. I called and they said I could go back for the missing item. Went back and then realized a side of clam chowder was also missing when I got back to my hotel the second time. At this point, I wasn't going to go back again. Crab salad is lacking in quantity of crab. Mixed seafood cajun style was decent, but that's about it. Very disappointed in this experience.

Cod and chips- sorry, ate some of it before I took the picture! So good!

Great decision to stop here instead of our normal spot in Long Beach. I had the cod and fries, husband had the clam strips with fries and chowder. Both plates were wonderful with a lot to eat! Food was fresh and delicious. Service was absolutely top notch, everyone was so lovely! We will definitely be back next time we come to Long Beach for a visit!

We decided to return on 6/18/25. The evening before no luck to dine onsite. Better luck with a brief lunch instead, where we were seated immediately upon entry. Nice, bright, and clean. Indoor seating and a few outdoor picnic tables We shared a calamari appetizer with garlic toast and each had a cup of chowder. It hit the spot to take the edge off, pleasant palate pleaser.

    Sautéed scallops and onion rings.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Great view.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Great location.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The shrimp salad was yummy. The scallops were tasty. The onion rings were crunchy.

Their gluten-free options for the seafood items on their menu.

We've visited a couple more times and I'm happy to up them a star to 5-star status! They have an extensive menu and any minor issues I mentioned in my original review were not issues on subsequent visits so they definitely deserve the update. I love their options for making certain dishes gluten-free (they don't have a dedicated gluten-free fryer, however). Everything us and our friends & family have had here has been delicious and the service is always super friendly and helpful. Please see my original review for additional details.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Stopped here for a late lunch and to have a place to be while we waited for check in time at the hotel.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]It's nice. A mix of touristy and locals collect to lunch.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] They had a gigantic fudge bar at front of house, so we got to sample some cool fudge before chowing down on chowder. They also have nice merch.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Atmosphere is cute here. You can tell that there is a lot of love put into every decoration and idea.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We ordered the halibut. Mine was quite tasty, albeit overcooked. My husband got a different, less desirable piece of salmon fish. And his being thinner was woefully overcooked. We aren't big on sending food back if edible, so we just ate what we received. The baked potato was cooked well. We chose the salad, which was fresh but the lettuce was VERY wet. We enjoyed their iced tea, too. Fresh tasting. We split a dessert and took one home. At the restaurant we had the Marion Berry Cobbler ala mode. It was very, very good! And for back in our hotel room, we split the key lime pie. Quite tart which we loved! Overall nice service. [[HIGHLIGHT]]And it is a lovely place.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

[[HIGHLIGHT]]A "mom n pop" style restaurant filled to the brim with a waiting list at 6 pm on a Friday in February! Good sign![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We had salad with little bay shrimp and very mild house made Bleu cheese dressing, chowder which was full of clams and potatoes and delicious. Sauteed scallops, and calamari which was melt in your mouth tender. Came with yummy garlic toast and my daughter got a really good baked potato. We took home a slice of the great smelling house made peanut butter pie, but right now too stuffed to eat it!I had a local brew from North Jetty brewery, right down the street!Nice servers ,fine service, they also had a fudgeshop!

Absolutely fantastic. The nicest service I have ever received. Incredibly nice and attentive staff. Lots of parking and open seating area with lots of windows. Very clean. Big menu with fair prices. The food was stellar. The clam chowder is on the liquid side but PACKED with clams. The value was incredible. I got chicken fettuccine Alfredo. It was so good. So much chicken! Really getting your moneys worth! Would've loved a little Parmesan on top though.

We own a house in Long Beach, and during the time we lived there full-time, this was our go-to spot for anniversaries and my husband's birthdays. It exudes that cozy, historic Seaview charm that invites you to relax and linger...warm, intimate, and full of character without being over the top. A true small-town and now not so hidden gem. My husband is a fan of their Old Fashioneds, particularly those with a smoked maple twist, and he often gravitates back to the slow-braised pork. Their current Southern Comfort Pork dish is just his style: slow-braised pork shoulder served over brown sugar yam mash with jalapeño creamed corn, green onion, and maple-bacon salsa. That's comfort food crafted with real culinary skill. As someone who follows a plant-based diet, I truly appreciate how The Depot makes an effort to accommodate vegetarian and vegan diners in a way that feels genuine rather than forced. Last winter, I was thrilled to discover the ginger-coconut soba noodles, they were flavorful, satisfying, and perfectly balanced. Their current mika soba noodles with garlic-ginger coconut cream, vegetables, toasted cashews, and cilantro are exactly the kind of dish I'm thankful to find on a Peninsula menu. I also have fond memories of Burger Wednesdays from our time on the Peninsula. It's incredible how satisfying a customized portobello burger can be when a kitchen understands texture and seasoning especially in a place where plant-based options can still be scarce. The food is fantastic, but the service deserves a special mention. While Peninsula restaurants are known for their good service, The Depot's service is exceptional: polished, friendly, warm, and just the right amount of attentive. Although we now reside in California, we plan to make another reservation when we return to the Long Beach Peninsula in July. I'm already looking forward to their summer menu. Note: I've forgotten to take photos so the ones on this review are from the restaurants social media - definitely a reflection of our last meal at The Depot without the drinks.

So you try to be more efficient and reduce expenses But having less spirt choices at the bar maybe shouldn't be one, or not having any options to tweet a choice, or not fully cooking potatoes in the chowder, or... I usually have the deep fried shrimp but saw someone else's 5 Star rating on the batter dipped fried shrimp tacos, and WOW!!! Three delicious prawn tacos, so far only place I've found that does the batter dipped fried prawn tacos since having them when I visited my parents in Yuma, AZ & we would go to Los Algodones, Mexico. They were the greatest, along with the little serving of chips & salsa, even the water was crystal clear with no chlorine taste. Only one waitress plus a guy helping with everything, ran the whole floor and was very responsive to everyone, even checked on me for more water. The ambience was nothing exciting, but everything including restroom were clean, would have been a 3 to 4 star except the shrimp tacos blew it out of the water, will definitely be back again...

Had to wait to be seated and then told to pick a table. We prefer a slice of lemon in our water and had to remind the server. We ordered both a 1-piece and a 2-piece halibut and chips with a cup of chowder. The fish & chips came out quickly. Nice and hot. The slaw is more like a carrot and cabbage salad with a slight Mexican flavor accent. I believe portions are out of balance as there was way more slaw than fish on both platters. The chowder was thick and creamy and clam forward in flavor. A good mix of celery potato and clam. If there had not been oyster crackers I would say it needed more veg & clams to give texture to the chowder base. The fish was battered and came out hot and crispy. The portions were disappointingly small with a big price. The tarter was very chunky so not great for dipping. Overall, it was good food but I don't think I would go back.
