Coastal Cafe - Breakfast & Brunch Near Me - Ocean Park, Washington

The food is good- great bacon (and a good portion- four big slices!), the hash browns are fine (clearly bagged, underseasoned but passable mixed with the egg), eggs are good, biscuits are great. I got good service. But I was incredibly unimpressed by how the waitress treated an older couple that came in. It's a beautiful day today (a Friday), sunny and warm. There are five people in the restaurant and ten empty four-top tables, some by the windows. No two tops by the windows. The couple asks to sit at a window. "No." "It's beautiful out, we'd really like to sit by a window..." "It's against the rules." They leave and she makes some comment under her breath as they turn to leave. After they leave, she was complaining to other customers about that they didn't get what they want and that's why they left. Yes, they didn't get what they want, but they weren't asking for a free meal. They were asking for one of the TEN empty four top tables by the window. The restaurant is empty. It's a Friday at 11 AM. Rules for the sake of rules is a perfectly legitimate reason to lose business. Won't be coming here again. read more

This is a great place. Ignore all the low rating whiners. If you are familiar with the Long Beach peninsula and Ocean Park you know that good places to eat is a rarity and when they do arrive they last about a year and are gone. Anita's serves great homemade food, the staff is very friendly and its one of the few places that's great and has hung around for a long time. I've been here many times and the owners and staff are always there and ready to make me something good. Excellent breakfasts and excellent burgers! Frankly I can't understand why this place gets anything less than 5 stars. My girlfriend who is super picky about her breakfast was totally impressed with this place. She can only eat gluten free bread and they have Fran's. Which is one of the best and Anita's had two types!! We came for breakfast at around 11:45 but no problem. I ordered the omlette and it was cooked perfectly with lots of veggies and ham. All the food was cooked just how we ordered it. Our food came right away and the portion size was generous. Full disclosure: I live in Ocean Park. I've read the review complaining of their strict seating policy but that is part of the charm of this place. Anita runs a tight ship and doesn't put up with any nonsense. If you want to get a feel for what people are like who live here, Anita's is the place to go. I like the food here but I generally go to catch up on the town gossip. Anita is a wonderful person (albeit at times cranky) who is well known for her generous nature and her support of the community. The place is still open but for sale. I hope whoever buys it will be able maintain the current ambiance. read more

While their food is decent, their customer service is not! We are in town every couple of weeks and each time we have ate in there (breakfast, lunch & dinner), we have never been greeted with a friendly hello or most the time, never acknowledged that we were waiting to be seated. This past weekend, a couple with a small child stood and waited for more than 1/2 hour with NO acknowledgement to them. Yes they were a little busy, but not too busy to be friendly - that's common courtesy (btw, they had time to chat with customers who they knew)! And more thing that was more upsetting to us: we met some friends in for lunch one Saturday and my dad had paid for all of our meals (6 of us). The service sucked, but my dad still left a nice cash tip as he always does. A few days later, he noticed that his bank charge from Anita's was $10.00 more that what he had signed for. He called Anita's to ask about it and the waitress that served us said "oh yes, that was me and I added it on after you left" - ummm, what?!?! He told her that he left her a cash tip, which she said she knew.. and yet she added $10.00 onto our tab AFTER he signed the recipient and left?!? No apologies, just answered like it was a matter of fact. How many people has she done that to? Many elderly people live there & dine in Anita's.. so if you choose to dine there, take cash.. and don't be disappointed when there is a lack of hospitality during your time there. read more

Happy to find a place that was still serving breakfast! Two of us ordered the specials crab omelets and a veggie omelet (one of the better veggies we've had). We came down to visit my uncle during the parade time . So we stopped in at Anita'a 3 out of 6 of ordered through special which was chichen parmisan. It sucked! It was only 2 chicken strips with spaghetti sauce over noodles ! Then clam chowder if you want you got to pay 1.50 to upgrade .. my meal was fish 3 little pieces slaw fries 13.99 1 burger over 75.00 .... no drinks ..... never gonna eat there again !! read more

We are a family of five staying in Ocean Park. Most of our meals have been cooked in our rental house but we wanted a night out in a local place. Anita's is about 1.5 miles from our rental and seemed reasonable priced from our research (it's the peninsula-everything is a bit pricier). We got their about 530pm and we were greeted and seated promptly. Water was brought around and the server even made me a fresh pot of decaf. She was very pleasant about it, too. We almost all got omelettes and one got chicken fried steak. The portions were very reasonable, tasted good and was served in a reasonable amount of time. They have wifi and the server was great about allowing us free rein to download movies for later viewing-even encouraging us to linger and visit. I only gave 4 stars because I think that it's just a bit too spendy for breakfast food (our bill was $67) and they charged extra for pancakes, which none of us saw on the menu. When this place opened a couple years ago we were excited about having the option of breakfast served all day. The food was horrible though. They used white American cheese and called it Swiss, the gravy had a super scorched taste that made it inedible and my omelet came with 1 piece of toast? (cook said it was because I ordered the 3 egg omelet (which was really over cooked) instead of the 4 egg omelet)), and the hash browns were almost burnt, dry, oily and not good. The waitress was always really nice and attentive, though. In a pinch, we would try again and try to keep our menu selections simple, like a bacon and cheddar omelet, fish and chips but the food was just okay. Well, within the past few months they must have gotten a new cook because the quality of the food has improved dramatically. The sausage gravy is so good I could almost eat it like a soup. My omelets have been cooked perfectly (light yellow color, nice and thin with no brown at all on the outside), hash browns have been golden brown on the outside and moist inside and the biscuits are even split, buttered and toasted. The special the other night was pork stuffed with goat cheese and spinach but I was still too wary to try it but I really wish I would have after I saw how good everything was prepared again! I hope this place keeps getting better and better and will serve more well prepared homemade food and less Cisco truck stuff...hint, hint lol. Okay, I've read a lot of the reviews and don't quite understand what people expect. We've been in Ocean Park for a week or so and have eaten at Anita's twice. First time was breakfast which was delicious and ample; the second time was lunch which was a really delicious BLT and a cheeseburger and fries. No complaints on either visit. The staff is accommodating, fast and friendly. Anita waited tables the first time and cooked the second time. For the record, the front tables by the windows are reserved for families with kids. Anita provides toys for the kids to keep them occupied so the adults could eat a leisurely meal. So, even if the restaurant seems uncrowded, families could come in at any time so the rule is strictly enforced which I personally appreciated. I will go again during the final week of our vacation. read more

Pro's: the halibut was really fresh, the waitress was sweet. They had a children's play area which was super convenient since I was with 3 kids. The waitress brought my girls extra watermelon at no charge. Con's: prices were a little high. Each of my kids ordered a corn dog and fries and it was $7. The fish in previous pictures was big long fillets, mine was more like nugget size. So a 3 piece halibut was more like a 1 1/2 piece of what was pictured in other users reviews. And it cost me $14. I wanted oysters, but for a 4 piece and fries it was $15. read more

The cafe was as bright as the personalities that greeted us this morning for breakfast. My husband, 2 year old and I were treated to a delicious breakfast of dungeness crab omelet, hash brown, toast and chicken fried steak with hash browns, eggs and toast. The omelet was perfectly cooked and the amount and quality of crab outstanding. My chicken fried steak breakfast was very good. The crust perfect and the tenderness of the steak spot on. We were impressed with the quality of the food. Nothing greasy. Besides the great meal, the service was awesome. Our server, Anita perhaps?....was attentive, kind and made us feel welcome. There is an unassuming corner of the cafe that caters to diners with small children. Great call to have coloring books, crayons and small toys! My husband and I were able to enjoy a long, toddler fit free meal.....which is rare. We look forward to coming back and trying lunch/dinner and would gladly recommend this place to our friends and family. The location is great, as it's right across the street from Jack's Country Store. I'm hopeful Anita's will become a staple in Ocean Park and on the peninsula. read more

Stopped in for Sunday mid-afternoon dinner and were excited that they had pan-fried oysters for one member of our party, although they mentioned they were a bit heavy-handed with the breading. The daily specials included a homemade macaroni & cheese that was generously topped with a bread-crumb/Parmesan crust along with a very tasty tomato/onion & bacon soup and basic side-salad. Everyone enjoyed the diner ambiance including cute wooden statues & plaques above the luncheonette. Looked like some regulars are there every day, & greeted as they arrived which is always a good sign! read more

If you're under 65 and a person of color don't bother. The racial micro aggression toward myself was one I've never experienced. One staff member made sure to let me know I was a "little too tan" for this area. I didn't even know what to say in response I was so shocked. I've been coming to Ocean Park since infancy and feel like it is my second home. Food was mediocre at best. We were charged a splitting fee for a lackluster omlette with no vegetables to speak of. What a delightful surprise! We stopped in for lunch. The service is excellent, the atmosphere is quiet, food was delicious and arrived quickly. Prices are very reasonable. I had the two piece halibut and chips, it was $12.95. That's about half of what other places on the peninsula charge. The fries are beer battered too. Had a group of around 18, which isnt easy I know, but at least try and be friendly. She was flat out rude. Food was average. My bacon was so burnt I couldn't eat it. Waited forever for coffee, then for the food. She forgot my coffee so I reminded her. I Waited another 10 min. The most insane thing was that my friend wanted to share with her son. The waitress told her it would be $2 plate fee. She said it's ok I don't need the extra plate, he can just eat off mine. The waitress informed her she was still getting charged for sharing a meal! There aren't many breakfast choices in OP. We are lucky to have Anita's Cafe. Breakfast specials are always good. This morning I had a perfectly poached egg and crispy hash browns. The staff is friendly and make you feel welcome. This is our "go to" place for Sunday breakfast. read more

We got there at 10:30, were seated at 11:15, got our food at 12:30. Granted, it was the Fourth of July, but there were multiple free tables while we were waiting and we ordered bacon and eggs and sandwiches; not exactly difficult orders. My friends and I came to this cafe for breakfast because we are staying in the town. With a short waitlist, it took us 40 minutes to be seated (after locals were given preferential service) even with clearly open tables and 4 waiters on staff. After being seated, it took us about 40 additional minutes to receive our food until we asked about the wait even though the food had been sitting on the counter. People came and went in the time it took for us to sit and eat. After the restaurant cleared out, I asked if I could sit and work for a bit on some homework. The waitress made me unplug my computer from the outlet next to my chair under the condition that "this is not an internet cafe", even though the restaurant offers free wifi. I just lived in Europe for 5 months where service is not usually a priority, but this was worse than any service I received abroad. This restaurant is very clean, with spotless bathrooms, food does take a little time to get, but you are at the beach. Food is great.
