Came out here with my kids, my daughter's friend had art on display and she wanted to support her friend. I got the Woodstock drip coffee (I let the barista pick based on my preference for low acidity coffee), the Turkey C sandwich, my son got the banana bread and a PSL, my daughter's got a chai and blueberry muffins. My kids loved their treats and drinks, admittedly they are an easy audience. I enjoyed my coffee, as hoped for it was smooth a law acid, despite drinking it black. The sandwich was absolutely outstanding. Bacon was thick and smoky, the roll had just the right "squish" and "chewiness" of a good hard roll, and it wasn't greasy or sloppy at all, which is exactly why I picked it. The Mediterranean salad was not quite what I expected, I thought it would involve black olives and feta cheese, but it had neither, and I appreciated that it was different and not too oily. The food prices feel a touch high but if you look at the quality of the food, and their use of premium ingredients, it is reasonable for what you get. Staff was friendly and good came out fast. There is a long table for bigger groups and small tables for up to four to sit. Ah... coffee, behind sugar the most acceptable and almost required drug in America. Who can deny the satisfaction of opening the doors to any coffee shop and getting slapped in the face with the most brilliant, bold and savory smells that only fresh brewed coffee can produce? Not only that but the required caffeine that our blood streams need to jolt our overly taxed or perhaps underserved waking up mechanism. I work out in the AM so coffee for me is more about opulence and indulgence than a necessity but I digress. Anyways after living abroad and sampling many places in town, I believe I have found the best coffee shop in Summerville! Coastal Coffee Roasters is in an easy to access and safe area in a quaint building. After the initial blast of beans slammed my nose, I took awhile to check out the store. First the board screamed out at me with all the international (lets be honest almost all American coffee is international unless it's from Hawaii) flavors. I really wanted to sample a lot of flavors, but alas I was in somewhat of a rush. Next, I love the fact they grind their own beans, when I lived in Texas my favorite spot smoked then ground their beans; people are getting crazy y'all! While I hate trendy coffee shops, you know the ones with the pretentious people writing the next great American novel in a sterile environment? Coastal Coffee Roasters doesn't give that vibe at all, more of a laid back spot where you'll recognize people that come often and have a smile on their face; well after they've had some coffee. The walls have character that isn't forced but as if an owner on a whim puts a keepsake up on the wall. The furniture is a hodgepodge of whatever is found at a thrift store is considered seating, along with a long picnic table. This is a snapshot of lowcountry living, laid back, simple yet comforting. I looked over a menu and I'll be darned if I didn't love what they had to nibble on. It all looked devine but if I may suggest two items that I've enjoyed in other areas of the country - kloche's and homemade poptarts. There, my request is done! Back to their menu from what I saw is everyone really enjoyed the food and the pastries looked amazing. I know, this place warrants an appetite and repeat visits. I wrote this huge review for one coffee, I suggested myself! Apparently I think highly of this little insignificant review. But darnit my coffee was as JJ said "Dynomite!" I got a large latte with two shots of Amaretto, shot of honey and a shot of vanilla. My coffee at home I generally have my own creamer I doctor up for positive affects on the body and it includes non-sweet creamer, touch of cayenne, turmeric, cinnamon and honey. Anyways my latte was delicious and not too sweet. I even let my mom try it who literally hates everything she doesn't create and she loved it. To wrap this up, Coastal Coffee Roasters is the real deal and the best coffee you can get in town. The people are nice and will take the time to walk you through the menu and the store itself has the aww shucks sit down and stay a while vibe. Made it here Saturday while we were up in the area. Staff were friendly and helpful. Parking is pretty easy unless there's an event going on downtown. Lots of seating options inside for all group sizes. The iced honey latte was great on a summer morning. The breakfast sandwiches were tasty and well prepared. This review is mostly for me to come back to once I try more. I've been here on three separate locations and still haven't tried any of their food. That is completely my bad. Will judge that soon. One of the days I visited was an understaffed, Saturday morning with a shortage of ingredients. We were unable to try any seasonal beverages we wanted because of this. I will say, I have thoroughly enjoyed a regular coffee (Carolina Gold?) and dirty chai tea. The seating area could use a bit of an update and proper organization/storage of magazines, games, and the like. Just to make it a bit more tidy. The staff is very patient, hardworking, and communicative which increases my likelihood of return. I also need to actually try the delicious looking cinnamon roll. Ordered food to go for lunch. Lunch gyro special was delicious. I got side of Cole slaw ...nice flavor with a mixture of cabbage, carrots and kale. Gyro was fresh and loved the fresh tzatziki sauce. The pickles were unusual start sweet then have a little bit of a bite at the end. When I arrived had to wait a few minutes but I enjoyed watching the people. We started coming here because my sons SLP is in the building and we fell in love with this local gem! Service is always great even when busy which it always is and we're there at lunchtime. The baked goods are heavenly. We've had cruffins, cookies, and scones! We also have ordered off the lunch menu and the sandwiches are huge and delicious! Another visit, another 5 star. I love this place for its relaxed neighborhood vibe, for its wide and excellent drink offerings and bean coffee choices, and its in-house bakery. Perfect! Once you figure out what to order, and if your eating in, you'll grab a seat. Choices range from tables for 2, or 4, or many (a long table seating large parties or friends that maybe haven't met yet). A server brings your order over with a smile. I'm still trying to find good coffee shops in Summerville and came across this one. I love that they roast their own beans and make their own syrups. It is a very crowd and family friendly place and the service was fast and friendly. I ordered a blueberry scone and it was delicious. It was thick, not dry and not too sweet. I've been a regular here for about two years now. They have a tradition here that is awesome. There a nice sized bell hanging from a wall. Every day at 8:00am the owner or one of the designated regulars walks up to the bell and gives it a single ring. He then tells everyone about their tradition of standing up and saluting the flag. Talk about "America!!!" Coffee? Amazing. I buy only their beans. Food? While the quality is great my feeling is that it's just a little in the expensive side. This isn't a place I would go to if I had a huge appetite. Service? Great. How great? Well, the owners daughter works here and based on how great all of the service staff is you'd never know which one was related to the owner. There's outside seating and a roomy layout inside. I will routinely take the twenty minute drive to get here, while passing 2 cafes along the way. There's a nice, local flair here. I'd recommend it to anyone. read more

Not only is the coffee quality amazing, the owner is very knowledgable and enthusiastic about sharing that knowledge. I came in because I got 2 batches of terrible burnt flavorless coffee from a very famous coffee brand. It was the last straw in long string of unsatisfactory coffee experiences. I vowed never to buy pre-ground supermarket coffee again. I came in wanting to try a light roast and love my way up. I now have coffee grinder and grind my espresso every morning. My favorite beans are the Sexy Seven and the Guatemala City. Start here if you want to up your coffee game. Like other reviewers, I love the vibes here. I appreciate the focus on locally produced items--including milk from a nearby dairy farm and eggs from another area farm. Fun location in downtown Summerville. Coastal Coffee Roasters has become my go-to shop for whole beans to supply my at home coffee routine. I like the variety from single origin to blends. It would be nice to know the roasting date for the different options, but I have been assured that everything is roasted in small batches on a frequent basis. The coffee is good and tastes fresh, so I believe this is true. The roast options change often; another good indicator of small batch roasting. Was here yesterday for the first time after moving to West Ashley (Charleston) from Greenville. Really, really nice espresso place. Had a great iced mocha with an extra shot as it was getting hot out and I'd already had plenty of espresso. Wow. Really good as well the strawberry scone. (They were out of Blueberry which is my favorite) The scone was really, really good. As was the Lox on everything bagel I got to go. Not as great as some I've had in Manhattan or the city or some straight up Jewish deli's but better than almost any coffee shop bagel I've had. (Shout out to Jersey Bagel Brothers in Greenville - awesome bagels and Lox bagels sandwich's) There are a lot of tables here. Almost all had two or more people. Some working on laptops or iPads. Some just talking and having a nice morning. But the overall sound level was very decently quiet for all of the people there. Also there were more actual people working behind the counter than a lot of shops these days, and who were friendly and efficient and knew what they were doing so ordering went fast and smoothly. I wanted to support a small business so I headed to Coastal Coffee Roasters instead of making my normal Starbucks run. The customer service was great. The young girl at the counter greeted me immediately and offered assistance. They offer a variety of coffee beans, brewed coffee, espresso, pastries and breakfast items. I described the type of brew that I was looking for and was offered a sample of a coffee they thought that I might like, it didn't quite hit the mark for me in terms of boldness but she recommended that I try their "Sexy Seven" as it is the boldest brew that they offer. I am looking forward to trying that on my next visit. Opted for and Americano today and it was good. The caramel syrup (they make all of their syrups in house) was amazing. They have a wide variety of coffee options for those who enjoy exploring flavors. They have a small number of syrup flavors, but the ones they do offer are delicious! The atmosphere is such a relaxing feel and the vibe makes you want to snuggle into warm blankets and relax. The decor is sort of Boho-Chic and the food fantastic. While there I enjoyed a cappuccino and my husband grabbed an iced coffee. My husband said no need for fancy syrups for his beverage because the flavor of the coffee was just that good. My cappuccino was full flavored, smooth, and delicious. My husband ordered a BLT that was packed full of quality ingredients that tasted so fresh. I loved brunch here! I visited on a Saturday morning about 10:45. I had the Cuban cortado and spinach, tomato and feta croissant. Both were so delicious. The coffee was smooth, creamy, and perfectly strong with just the right amount of sweetness. The croissant was honestly one of the best things I have ever eaten. I came here to see a friend perform next door to the coffee shop. But first, we grabbed some tea and coffee to catch up for a bit. It was a spacious area and quite peaceful, especially on a Sunday afternoon. There were some people chatting, others playing a board game, and another working. People kept their chats to a minimum volume enough to have a good white noise background. Since I already had my caffeine rush for the day, I asked if they can make cold tea, even though it was not on their menu. The friendly lady was able to do so and it was delicious! It had a tropical taste, which was perfect for this early summer weather. I could not really find this info on their website or the brewery next door, but there is a door that leads to a small garage looking area where people come together and jam out to some tunes on their guitar. I have been into CCR a few times and have never been disappointed. The baristas are all awesome and really helpful. They were able to get me choose a coffee bean to purchase as a gift for a friend. They make all their flavor syrups in store, so they don't offer any sugar free (which isn't a big deal). They're all really delicious. The baked goods are also fantastic. It has been 36 years since I last saw him in person. I was a student then, at Columbia University. I'd signed up for an experiment because I really felt that I had strong extra sensory perception. It was a trait that ran in my family. My mom would give amazingly accurate Tarot readings during parties when I was a kid. Dad always seemed lucky at everything. Plus the $5.00 wouldn't hurt. That's $12.47 in today's currency. Peter. That day I walked in and I knew I had a gift. But he kept shocking me. Again and again. And gave that BS "negative reinforcement" excuse. Now, I know he was just trying to bang Jennifer. Back then, though, I was crushed. And all the weird dreams didn't help. I dropped out of school, wandered a bit. Spent some time in Seattle. That's where I really learned about coffee. I ended up in Kansas. I finally got myself together and finished school. I worked hard and had a good job. All my time alone made me a bit reclusive. It was easy to avoid the hero of New York. That brings me to today. A friend of mine used to talk about The Low Country where he grew up. She always encouraged me to visit. She said I would love it. So, I took a vacation. Flew into Chsrleston and decided to stay in Summerville, Flowertown in the Pines. I walked in to what some cop said was "the best coffee in town". Coastal Coffee Roasters. And there she was, standing at the register, uber cheerful and ready to serve. The walk to her was the longest twelve feet of my life. She seemed SO excited to take my order. All I could see was her shirt, more the man on the shirt. Peter. Dr. Venkman. Hero. It was a drawing of his profile, as if he were imitating Jacques Cousteau. All I could hear was his smugness. I'm certain I mumbled something unintelligible. The young lady, Charis I believe, was perfect, though. She explained my choices. Dark roast was PNG Vienna and the light roast was Indonesian Sumatra. She made a couple of other suggestions such as a Honey Lavender Latte, an Apple Cider Chai, or an iced cold brew and chocolate milk drink. All sounded delightful and I went with a hot, large Indonesian. I also added The Frenchie, the French toast breakfast. She asked my name and she wrote Scott on a placard. A short time later, my food arrived. The Frenchie was served with a small ramekin of syrup and a side of fruit. It looked amazing! The coffee smelled wonderful. I burned myself a little bit with the first sip and needed to ask for a couple of ice cubes. This was exactly what I needed to melt the anxiety of the sight of "The Hero" away. The Frenchie was hot and buttery, the syrup almost an unneeded accessory. The coffee was flavorful and a perfect compliment. I was able to finally look around and see where I was. It looked like Charis' sister also works there. And a taller man as well. Another man, who looked like a train robber would pop in and out of a side door. Food was delivered by a young lady with ninja like skill. I could see that most patrons were regulars, and for good reason. COASTAL has a great atmosphere, a direct result of those behind the bar, that is only trumped by the quality of coffee and food served.
