I love to support a local coffee shop when out of town, so it was nice that Southern Brews was conveniently on the way to Angel Oak and a drive-thru. The line was considerably long and took some time to get through, so I wouldn't necessarily call it a quick stop. Friendly folks working there. I ordered their white chocolate angel oak latte. I am a big fan of Southern Brews drive through! Their Rocky Road coffee and hot chocolate are treats for a self proclaimed chocoholic like myself, and it's awesome that they have pup cups for our Golden. Trish is always very pleasant --it's always great to have a favorite barista who makes my experience even better. The s'mores coffee is another seasonal favorite! Highly recommend. read more

Found this local hidden gem near my current boyfriend's house. Was not expecting my world To be changed. I have tried every chai in Charleston and am consistently underwhelmed. Excellent food and coffee (particularly the Whie Angel Oaka), as well as exceptional service and staff. My husband and I have been coming here since 2021, and we have yet to miss a weekend. The four of us decided we wanted an energy boost before heading to the Tea Plantation (we understand that tea has caffeine but we were IN need of some heavy lifting--bring on the espresso). What an epic find. Though it was a hard find since the Yelp directions took us about two miles away from the actual location but we made it! Use Waze or Google--not Yelp directions. We got a strawberry smoothie, pina colada smoothie and two dirty iced chai lattes. HOLY CHAI! We both agreed that whatever their secret ingredients is, is on-point. We ordered the Rocky Road with oat milk, large size. When we picked it up through the drive-through, it seriously looked like a regular mocha drink. There was nothing on the top of the drink or anything whatsoever and it was semi warm now I understand that part as a just barely made the coffee so I'm not complaining about the temperature but more or less the presentation especially when I'm paying over eight dollars for the drink. Staff was friendly and the drink did taste good but it did not feel like I was drinking Rocky Road more or less like a chocolate milk. Man, I just struggle to understand sometimes. I have been in the boat where only you and one other person showed up to work that day and literally every single person in town wants whatever it is you're selling, but I can promise that I served every single person with a smile and a "have a nice day" despite the fact that I was dying on the inside. Southern hospitality used to be a thing and it's quickly dying and that's what makes me die on the inside now. Anyway, my coffee was good after waiting an hour for 2 drinks (and I pulled up right to the menu when I started.) and I liked the specialty options. Great local place for coffee, specialty drinks, and breakfast sandwiches. I stop here pretty regularly and have always enjoyed their coffee and especially their croissant sandwiches. It's mainly a drive thru place, and they live can get long at rush hour mornings, but they move quicker than you might expect. Only drawback is they might be just a little pricey. read more

Five stars typically takes a committee meeting with my upstairs counsel, this five-star requires no such meeting. Hoping for indoor seating because it's just so darn cute from the outside, I pressed my cupped hands upon every window to peer in from all angles, all for not. To get services, you don't need a car, as the drive thru seconds as a walk up as well. There is no inside seating, perhaps there once was but there are three outdoor tables to sit at, all pup friendly and fresh water will be supplied for at no cost. I must admit I was a bit bummed to learn that the Breakfast Croissant was not an option due to the croissants not being available, I had my heart set on it, but I roll with the punches quite well with food matters. Quickly I switched to the BMT - Basil, Mozzarella & Tomato sandwich. Served on Buckwheat bread, with pesto and a tangy vinaigrette, it really got my taste buds attention. The pesto flavor was immediate with its flavorful leaves playing with the pine nutty oils, creating a symphony of flavors. Not any one item that comprised the sandwich was skimped on -- the tomato was perfectly ripe, fleshy and runny enough to blend with the mozzarella but did Not compromise the bread into a mush pasty mess, that Buckwheat bread is a sturdy little bread I tell ya. Sipping lightly upon my "classic macchiato" I reflected so fondly upon Southern Brews. How wonderfully my order was not only taken, but there was exchange as was with my gluten free dining partner who had ten thousand questions. I'm rather sure the owner was whom I was ordering with, I think she wanted to do a little something special for not having the crossing, a passing insignificant matter to me by now. Such a great place on John's Island but you need to plan ahead and make sure you have at least 30 extra mins to get your coffee. This is a busy place and it takes a long time to get your order! I would avoid if you're in a rush. 4-stars because I really do like the coffee but the wait can be painful. read more

Stopped here on the way to Angel Oak Tree this morning. I wanted to try a local coffee spot and this was easily accessible from the main road. The drive thru feature was nice too! We ordered iced coffees. It was a bit of a wait, as you order and get your food all at the same window in the drive thru, so if there are cars ahead of you it can take time. The staff was nice, though was speaking poorly about a customer that had just left while we were at the window. Not very professional. The coffee is good and the prices are affordable. Great experience aside from the talking about customers. read more

Had a great experience at Southern Brews Coffee this morning! It was so fast, so convenient, and so cheap. Staff was very genuine and friendly. The woman who took my order noticed my dog and offered him a treat, and the guy who gave me my food at the second window offered me some chocolate covered espresso beans while I waited. Food was solid and exactly what I was wanting--just a good breakfast sandwich. I also got a cappuccino, which was strong, but good. Overall great experience. We woke up to no coffee this morning. My husband made an emergency run to southern brews for coffee. He got me a dirty chai, I believe he got a macchiato and a croissant sandwich for himself. First time coming here and I'll definitely be coming back! I parked and started to walk up before the lady in the window said it was drive-thru only. That was kind of a shocker but I'm okay with it. I ordered the Caramel Nut latte hot and the ABC sandwich - Apple, Bacon, Cheddar. First he handed me the coffee and it had a little chocolate covered something on top of the lid. I thought that was a neat touch. He told me to please pull forward so he could serve the people behind me - more places should do this more often. The sandwich was unlike any other sandwich I've had before. It has gooey cheddar, thick sliced bacon, and thinly sliced pieces of green apple on the sandwich. It's definitely a different kind of sandwich you can't get everywhere. I really enjoyed both the coffee and the sandwich and will probably be back at this little drive-thru coffee place often. read more

Saw this place while out on a Sunday morning drive. Drive through was packed so I parked instead and went to the walk up window. I waited about 15 minutes for my drink, which was okay. The one star rating is for what I observed while standing at the window and watching the employees working. I observed one employee making two iced drinks (she knew I was watching) and after preparing the drinks she started adding ice to them and the ice was over the top on one of them at which time she proceeded to take her index finger and stick it in the drink to push the ice cubes down. She was not wearing gloves nor did I observe her do any kind of hand sanitation prior to handling these drinks. If an employee is comfortable doing this in front of a customer watching I hate to think what they are doing when they think they are completely unobserved. read more

Amazing service!! I would go broke if there was one of these in Florida. I got the hot, salted caramel coffee with an extra shot of expresso. They even gave extra chocolate/coffee beans on top!
