UPDATE: Following my initial review, I was contacted multiple times by the sale staff, including text messages, phone calls, and even an uninvited visit to my home. They requested that I remove this review, stating it would result in someone losing their job. I have since filed a formal complaint with Kia's corporate office regarding this behavior. Unfortunately, I have yet to receive any follow-up or apology from the dealership regarding these concerning and invasive actions. *** I recently visited Coastal Kia to test drive a car, but the experience left me frustrated due to high-pressure tactics and a lack of transparency. Although I ultimately purchased a car I'm happy with, I was pressured to make a decision immediately, despite expressing that I wanted to leave and think about the purchase. Following the transaction, I was surprised to find $6,000 in "packages" and "plans" included in the total cost, which were never discussed with me. When I called the dealership to address this, I spoke with both Uber and my salesperson, Riley. Riley explained that the packages included things like paint touch-ups, but I was still disappointed that these fees weren't clearly explained upfront. I was also frustrated that other car options weren't shown to me, which made me feel pushed into a decision that stretched my budget. At Riley's suggestion, I returned to the dealership to discuss the details. Since Riley was unavailable, I met with Uber, who confirmed that the "packages" were essentially dealer markups, with the paint touch-ups being part of a $0 exterior protection plan. Noting my frustration, Uber offered to refund the credit card fee on my down payment and provide all-weather mats--on the condition that I sign an agreement not to share my experience publicly. This request made me uncomfortable, and I didn't feel right about it. I was then referred to Peggy, the Operations Manager, who offered several goodwill gestures, including all-weather mats, a cargo cover, a roof rack, and a refund of my credit card fee. She even asked if I wanted to return the car. I told them I needed to think about it and would make a decision when I came back for my tags. Not twenty minutes later, Peggy called to offer an additional $1,000 as part of the resolution. While I verbally accepted this offer, the written agreement to not speak about my experience, which I reviewed a few days later, felt overly restrictive. After requesting clarifying changes, I ultimately decided not to sign. Another concern was the purchase process itself. Jan, who handled financials, showed me a diagram explaining how to complete the company survey and offered to fill my gas tank if I completed it at the dealership. This felt like undue pressure to provide positive feedback, which only added to my discomfort. While I'm happy with the car, the buying experience at Coastal Kia was upsetting. The lack of transparency and high-pressure tactics detracted from what should have been an exciting milestone. I hope Coastal Kia takes steps to improve their practices, prioritize transparency, and create a better experience for future customers. On Dec. 26th, at approximately 10:15AM, I had an appointment with Coastal Kia, Wilmington NC on Market Street for an oil change and tire rotation only. When I walked in, I looked at all the check-in techs and they did not make any eye contact and looked like they would rather be somewhere else. As I checked in with one of the service techs he immediately said, "Are you here for a recall?" I said no but stated that for several visits I had questioned a recall on the window molding on the car which had lost its color. He commented that they have that worked out now, but had to check. He came back and said due to excessive mileage we were not eligible for that or the Kia Connect recall. We had been only concerned with the discolored molding which had been a problem repeatedly questioned since well before 50K miles. I was asked to sit in the waiting room while they worked on our vehicle. Around 11:10am, per my phone records, I called my husband when an aggressive service tech, AJ said I needed several other services. He was especially pushing the brakes. My husband chatted with him briefly by phone and declined that service, who stated that the Telluride has a warning for low brake linings. He told AJ that he would have the brakes inspected elsewhere and that he also did not like that the service department had been giving them the run-around on the window molding issue for over 40,000 miles. He told AJ that he had purchased 3 vehicles, from them, 2 new and 1 used, and had planned on replacing the 2022 Telluride soon. He told AJ that now he was going to replace his 2 vehicles at another dealer. AJ abruptly tossed me my cell and showed a lot of animosity. I questioned which other services were recommended. He blew me off and said I could read the report when I checked out. They called me for checkout about 25 minutes later. I got my paperwork and immediately saw one part of the paperwork said front and rear brakes had failed their test. Another part of the paperwork said only back brakes had failed. This was also a red flag for me since my brakes were not making any signs of trouble on the dashboard indicators.. The paperwork also said my battery was at 150 amp hours and needed replacing. I immediately took it for a second opinion and they said it was over 550 amp hours in their report, which I was told was not a bad reading. I picked up the air and cabin filters that Kia had recommended replacing and quickly changed them myself. I have had other times I was convinced the staff was pressuring me for services. I had also complained that the service departments treatment of me, a 65 year old woman, was less than thoughtful. My husband and I have purchased 3 vehicles from this location, but we have decided there will be no more! We feel there are always a lot of choices for us as consumers and Coastal Kia has been a huge disappointment! read more

If I could pick ZERO stars I would. BUYER BEWARE: I had the worst possible experience buying a car from Coastal Kia of Wilmington. As a single mom with young kids and little time for shop due to an upcoming trip and current vehicle not reparable. I believe they took advantage of my circumstances along with many other mistreatments during the process. I found a 2020 Kia Telluride at Coastal Kia, but after confirmation and I scheduled appt. it was sold when I arrived an hour later. Despite explaining my preferences and budget, It was suggested that I purchased a 2015 Honda Odyssey with over 120k miles, even being told by Uber "I know you are trying to get out of your mommy era", keep in mind that is what I was driving prior (which was a 2012 w/ 222k miles) and made it very clear I no longer wanted a Van. I was eventually shown a 2020 Kia Sorento, not listed on their site, but it had serious issues, including violent shaking during the test drive. The dealership pressured me to buy it immediately and take it home that night threatening it wouldn't be there if I didn't and waited for them to repair it. The assured me it was just a weight that had fell off the tire, offering IOU repairs but insisting I commit first. I left without buying the car due to the feeling of deceptiveness and fishy facts. After further communication, I was told the car was repaired, It was not a weight but the front CV joints were broken. I agreed to test drive it again, there were still issues. On the test drive I drove it to a mechanic to confirm that the repair was completed correctly due to my uneasy feelings i was being lied to, he did confirm that the Axel and CV joints were repaired. I ended up purchasing the vehicle under pressure, with multiple price discrepancies, terrible communication and poor customer service. Immediately afterward, Like driving it home that same night I purchased it, I faced more issues with the vehicle, including brake and roof noises. I reported it first thing the next morning. When I reached out for help, I was met with disrespect and demeaning behavior from the dealership, further compounding my frustration and feelings of deception with this purchase. I was denied promised paperwork from multi-point inspections to repair paperwork from service department for the axel and cv joints. After agreeing to look at issues the service department advised me there is nothing wring with the breaking system and sent me on my way to an over 1400 mile trip to work it out and then bring back in if it did not correct itself. Only to be denied repairs or help upon my return. I was also misled about financing options told I had no choice but in-house financing, charged daily interest in while I was trying to obtain the payoff letter to transfer to my bank, and had to fight to get the loan corrected which was put in my previous name not my legal name. The whole experience was deceptive, disrespectful, manipulative, and exhausting. *Steven Kramer - Floor Sales Manager, initial contact not helpful and pushover *Uber Hernandez- Finance Manager, intimidator and bully *Jan Ramos - Product Specialist, withholder of financial information *Chad Duke - Product Specialist, dismissive avoider *Tyler Desmarest - Use car Manager, domineering, condescending, interruptive, overbearing and felt very misogynistic or even sexiest. Should I have made this purchase probably NO, was I in a bad spot and needed something urgently for me and my family YES. Lesson learned. I hope no one has to deal with this dealership and these people like I did. Since the purchase I have received 6 emails requesting I leave a review. This is #2 of #6. After searching online for weeks, and even doing a 24 hour test drive from another dealership, I still had not found what I wanted at the price I wanted. After a call from Coastal Kia"s finance director Mike Mascavage and describing to him my "must haves", Mike told me he thought he had some cars I would be interested in. I agreed to come in and look. When I arrived product specialist Brandon Wright greeted me at the door. I told Brandon my must haves, and my wants, including price. Brandon says, "I have exactly what you want"... And he did!!! Everything I told him I wanted was on their lot in my Kia Sorento, including every bell and whistle I could have imagined! I couldn't be more pleased with my purchase. Buyer beware. Don't expect to get a fair deal from Costal Kim. They mark up their vehicles from $4 - 5,000 over MSRP and can't explain what the mark ups mean. Then if you have a trade in vehicle, they will cut the suggested trade in value in half, and you can check multiple web sites. I speak from my experience with them. Jordan made this the BEST dealership experience I've ever had. About two months ago my husband, our son, and I came in just to look at the different models and we were approached by Jordan. He took us through and answered our questions for each model and was honest with us when he didn't know something. His honesty made us feel so comfortable that we were able to let our guard down and actually enjoy learning about the different cars. I was worried about getting a pushy salesman because we knew we were just there to look and at the end as we told Jordan we still had some other dealerships to check out, he thanked us for the opportunity to show us around as he was newer and wished us all best. We will be keeping our future business with Jordan because of the experience we had so we're hoping he's still here when it comes time for a trade in. As soon as we got out of our truck to look at their vehicles no less than five salesmen bum rushed the door, we felt like a goldfish in a piranha tank. We wasted no time getting free and to say the least we will never darken their door again. Our experience was that we had decided on a car and we're on the way there. The sales manager (Steve) assured us the car was waiting outside with our name on the dashboard. We were five minutes away and really looking forward to buying the Kia Soul we had picked out. When we arrived the car was outside with a sign that the car had been sold to someone else. The sales manager responded that he couldn't hold a used car (why put it out with our name on) and that it was the end of the month, meaning sell as much as possible. We were very frustrated and disappointed as we had spent some time deciding on this car the night before and the manager assured us it was ready for us. My 6 year old Kia Sorento (purchased used 2.5 years ago) had many code lights and a service engine system alert. We scheduled an appointment and was told it would be $1000. In need of our family car, my husband agreed to the repairs. After taxes it was $1178. All seemed fine..:for 12 hours. This morning all code lights were back. We called the dealership to try to bring it in today (Saturday) but no one was available to help us. The car buying experience was not great. The salesman was pushy. I requested to test drive a kia forte, but he kept redirecting me. He tried to get me to test drive a soul, which I hate the style of the soul and told him that. Still kept trying to push it. They were ok with my outside financing and getting the car to me afterwards. Will never shop here again. I went in for a used vehicle and was refused to get a price for it. They wanted me to buy a brand new Kia which was out of my price range by double the price. I gave them a chance and let them run the numbers hoping they would price the used one after and they kept saying they don't feel comfortable selling me a used car. I got up and walked out because I had no other choice since I was not gonna be able to afford the new vehicle and then the sales manager followed me practically to my car saying why am I upset which I wasn't. I just wasn't being heard and had no choice because I was not buying something that I couldn't afford. My son finally had to ask the sales manager to please stop following me and his response was this is public or private property or something like that and he could follow me if he wanted. Bought 2022 Kia soul as second owner. Engine blew with 60,062 miles on it. Flat out told me they will not fix it under warranty despite history of souls blowing rods through the motor. They claimed that I didn't change my oil, when I showed them receipts that oil had been changed, they said it was because I didn't have my oil changed THERE at the dealer. The second reason was because I wasn't "a loyal customer", despite the fact that I've had four Kia's to date and apparently loyalty is a one way street. The third reason was, I didn't beg them long enough to fix engine at Coastal Kia and spent my money somewhere else to replace. I filed a claim with Consumer Affairs on day one after they said I didn't change my oil. I agreed to take my first review down and cease communication with consumer affairs and they would review it in house. They have again denied reimbursement cost sighting above reasons. This was the sleaziest most uncomfortable car buying experience of my life. I'm traumatized. I wanted a car for my daughter and was fully intending to purchase one on Friday, March 15th. The salesman (Gus) was a slick 20 something who would not tell me what the MSRP of the car was. (Allow me to add I'm 68 and have purchased several cars over the years and most recently a BMW X3 just 2 years ago.) The two experiences couldn't have been more different. I went in recently, 10/14, for a routine repair and recall. I had an amazing shuttle driver, David Knowles, who had a great sense of humor and got me where I needed to go and picked me up in a reasonable amount of time. I tipped him well, because he made my visit so much better! On the other hand my service advisor, Darren, wasn't very polite and gave me a hard time accepting my coupons. He had already made up the bill and grave me a great deal of "attitude" when I requested he use my coupons. He would only do one $5 coupon, but said I could use both of them next time if I'd not make him use it this time. Sounded like he is in the wrong line of work or needs a lot of customer service training. He also handed me the wrong keys all with an angry look on his face. If we didn't love our Kia so much this would keep me out of the place. I also, almost got hit by another service rep driving through the pull up area too fast because he wasn't paying close attention to watch out for folks stepping off the curb. read more

We'll when it came time to close the deal, Bill Mathias went back on his word and reneged on the trade in, in a slimey and unethical (BaitAndSwitch #2) attempt to up my monthly payment. I sent two emails to the owner of Costal Kia, Patrick Koballa in best efforts to amicably resolve this matter and to inform him of how is employees are conducting themselves u see his roof however it appears that Patrick Koballa cowardly condones such inappropriate behavior by his staff because not only did Patrick Koballa not respond to my two emails but it appears that he instructed his entire staff to 'ghost me"! The practice of 'ghosting' is common behavior or teenagers not an adult business man that owns a dealership. Today I finally received a return call from Uber Hernandez explaining because the title of my trade in was once owned by my 90 year old mother (even though it no longer is) they won't accept it as a trade in! 10-04-19 A funny thing happened on the way to the car dealer. I'm sure you've heard a version of that saying before, well it is appropriate to use it to start this review. For two months I had been trying to get the necessary paperwork from Kia Finance in Plano, TX to transfer the registration of my Kia Nero from Nebraska to North Carolina but after sending registered letters and secured emails, they had no record of my request. My wife suggested that maybe we should talk to the Finance Manager at the local dealer and he could help us out. When we got there, he said that he would be of little help because he deals with a completely different division of Kia Finance, but since our current lease was up in May, he might be able to work something out on a new car. Since we knew our lease was ending, we had a been looking at the new models and had a pretty good idea of what we wanted. Jason Stone showed us a white 2020 Sportage SX. It had everything we wanted, except for the color. They had a grey one and the lease payment was less than my current payment, the deal was completed within 1 hour. The major benefit was I didn't have to hassle with the registration. The biggest problem was the signing and initialing of the 20 pages of documents. Mike Mascavage (Finance Director) has a desk that the entire top is a computer screen on which you sign the documents. It sounds cool and it looks impressive, but you must stand and move around to sing the documents. To make things worse, not all the forms can be signed using this equipment, they still must print some out and you must sign them manually. I suggested that Docusign would be much easier and he agreed, but said that for legal reasons, it could not be used on auto finance contracts. Personally, I think that it would be faster to print out the contracts and sign them all manually. But other than the paper signing process, everyone associated with Coastal Kia has made the car leasing experience one of the best I have had. Neither John nor Mike applied any pressure and took the time to answer all my questions about the old lease as well as covering in detail the terms of the new lease. This is my third lease with Kia and I think that this is the beginning of a long relationship with Coastal Kia and I hope I never have to deal with Kia Finance in Plano, TX again. read more

This dealership has truly impressed me. I purchased a new car the day prior to this review and experienced some challenges with it. It was not a good fit for me. When I called the dealership and expressed my concern and having purchased a brand new vehicle that really did not meet my needs the operations manager Peggy Roberts became involved and asked me to come in and speak with her. As I had already purchased the vehicle, I was afraid nothing could be done. This dealership surprised and amazed me that they wanted to make 100% sure that I was a happy customer. I started working with my original salesperson Steve Kramer again and we decided on a different model of the car. This dealership truly places the customer's happiness and satisfaction with their transactions at the highest level. It was actually nice to see a business, especially a car dealership, that truly values the individual and lives up to the concept of making sure that people are completely happy and satisfied with their purchase. Actions always speak louder than words. As an aside, I must mention that Michael Mascavage who is the finance manager has quite a sense of humor and makes completing and signing the paperwork actually entertaining. A surprise was that the owner himself, Pat Koballa spoke to me and wanted to make sure that I was satisfied with the change in my purchase. Given the experience that I have had, this dealership is now going to be my go-to dealership for all of my vehicle needs (except Motorcycles ). read more

Ok let me start with I got a call telling me I had a recall on my 2022 stinger gt2 for a door handle about 2 weeks ago. So I made a appointment for last Friday ON MY DAY OFF. I arrived on time waited an hour and a half only to be told they didn't have the part in stock. So not only did they take the door apart they did this not even being prepared to fix the door. Very disappointed in the service considering this appointment was made a week prior! Why would any service department dismantle a vehicle without even knowing they didn't have the parts needed to do the job! I bought a 2018 Stinger GT 2 from these folks. I love the car, and had a decent buying experience. The service department is what is killing this dealership. I had the car in for a recall item and to do the 20K service. I was concerned about wear on the rear tires and asked specifically if I needed new ones. I was told no, and that I had probably another 15 or 20k on them. Well, one month later the rear tires are worn down to the metal and not drive-able. I only noticed this when the low tire pressure light came on and I was attempting to add air at the gas station. So here's where the problem comes in. I have had 4 separate phone conversations with the service department to try and get new tires put on. Each time, a lady very slowly takes down all of my information...name, number, address, information about the car etc. Its almost like they don't have a computer database of their customers. Each time I go through this, and am transferred to the parts department to figure out if they have the tire. Nobody ever picks up that line, and the lady tells me that someone will call. Nobody calls. So now I'm on day 3 without my $52,000 car and no indication as to when I would be able to get it fixed. I've had no choice but to take the thing to a local tire place and get this handled. This will definitely impact my willingness to give any more business to Coastal KIA. We had a terrible experience buying a car from Coastal Kia. We spent 5 hours trying to negotiate two trade-ins and the down payment in order to secure a payment that let us meet our budget for purchasing a used truck. The need was a necessity as one of the trade-in vehicles had been having issues starting consistently. After we finally negotiated trade-ins, the rate after putting more money down than originally planned was higher than what they had quoted us when we were going to put less down. We went back and forth to no avail. Come to find out, the credit company came back after the paperwork was finished, and said the dealership put in a higher rate than what had been quoted. The credit company fixed it and corrected our payment for the rate. The dealership had tried to increase it to make more money on the deal, essentially trying to sneakily steal money the bank/credit company wasn't requesting. Fast forward to this week and they again proved that their business practices leave little to be desired. The title for one of the trade-ins had been destroyed accidentally during our move. Instead of following standard process, which would be to have a power of attorney sign and apply for a new title, they waited almost a month and wanted us to pay back the trade-in and then refund us after the title came in. This is completely unnecessary. We refused and they asked us to find and print a power of attorney form, when this is something that any car dealership should have and be able to handle. One of our best friends owns a dealership in Missouri and we know this process because of our experiences with him. We do not recommend this dealership and will never use them again. read more

I had a very nice buying experience at this dealership last week, when I purchased the 2019 Sportage SX. My sales rep was Jason Stone, and he is very professional and lovely. He helped me get the best possible price, and I am super pleased with the car. I have had excellent customer service with regard to all of the steps involved in the car-buying process, including the to-do list items. I traded in a 2017 Hyundai, and there is really no comparison in the level of vehicle quality. Kia is far superior. This is my second Kia. The first was a Sorento. I feel like I am driving an Escalade! I have all the bells and whistles! Couldn't be happier! read more
