We were saddened to learn that Coastal Vineyard will no longer be offering wine tastings! We loved spending time with Bob and tasting all of his different hummus dips, crostini's and chocolates that he would make from scratch! He was quite the cook! He always had great recipes to give out that paired well with certain wines! The wines are very good, I was always particularly fond of the Sassy sisters blends... The grounds are lovely and it always made for a nice visit. You can however still purchase the wines at the local Farmer's Markets. read more

I had been here for a tasting maybe 4-5 years ago and enjoyed myself. Unfortunately the experience had changed on my most recent visit and not for the better. Pros - Lovely setting - Large portfolio of wine to try, so there should be something you like - spreads and crostini to sample during your tasting Cons - The smallest pours I have ever seen at a tasting and I have been to a LOT of tastings. You barely get enough wine to taste it. - The gentleman giving the tasting gave off an air of being better than us. I don't say that lightly. I felt talked down to a few times. I expected it in Napa and didn't get it. Instead I got it in Dartmouth. - When people showed up in the middle of our tasting he insisting on starting them where we were in the tasting, which was red wines and told him he would finish with the whites for them. If you have ever been to a tasting, this is never done. Your palate will get blown out by the heavy reds and won't be able to taste the nuances of the whites. I did walk out with a few bottles of wine, so it wasn't a complete loss. Perhaps if you were to go and someone else were doing the tastings the experience would be better? read more

Coastal Vineyard is run by a husband and wife team who just opened up their place in 2004. The vineyard is a bit tricky to get to and its literally smack in the middle of a beautiful neighborhood. It's a house and you walk around back to the backyard area and the view is beautiful. It's a huge open space with an awesome view of the 8 acres of grapes. The tasting room is really small and it looks like their basement of the house. All the wine is made there. A tasting cost $5 for 5 wines, they have 10 total so if you are in a group or pair, you can opt to try all 10 while sharing a glass. The tasting is small, you get enough to each enjoy a sip if you are sharing. Although the wines were good, none of them really stood out as great. The reds were a bit smokey and the whites did not have a smooth finish. Although many people ended up buying wine after their tasting. Almost half of the wines that Coastal have are blends which is nice and a great way to taste 2 different types of wine. Its definitely worth a shot on the coastal wine trail, try the wine and enjoy the view. I didn't end up buying a bottle here but you can buy a glass and take a stroll through the vineyard and its absolutely beautiful. read more

Coastal Vineyard is definitely worth a stop if you are on the Coastal Wine Trail. The setup is a bit strange, given that the tasting room in the open-air basement of a house in a residential neighborhood. Bring layers if it is at all cold out, since there is no indoor area to hang out. The man who runs the tastings is very friendly and chatty about the wines. The wines themselves were fine- probably my least favorite of all the vineyards in RI. Most of their wines are white and rose blends, and those just aren't my thing. It's a bit unclear where you are supposed to park - it would be helpful if the owners put up signs. We parked on the side of the road, and I hope we didn't offend the neighbors. read more

Lovely and picturesque setting. This is in a residential neighborhood that once was a dairy farm years ago (Gulf Hill?) which is a little confusing upon approaching. The tasting area is outside and in the rear of a raised ranch house (the tour guide called it a chalet ... it's a raised ranch). The day that I went was a Saturday about 1:30p. People were sporadically arriving however everyone needed to wait until the previous group finished their wine tasting before we could begin. There was only one "clerk" who conducted the experience for the group. A little confusing and frustrating. It would be nice if folks who are waiting had something to do ... Like taste wine? Bob, our "host", did a nice job. He explained their wine making process well, white vs. red vs. sparkling. He gave a history of the vineyard and the wine-maker. Great education for the novice. He introduced each wine with knowledge and poured everyone's glasses and waited until we all finished before introducing the next wine. The phone rang during the middle of our tour and he stopped to answer it, being very courteous to the person on the phone however, at the same time, being very rude to all of us who were taking a tour. Very odd and not at all cool. Don't they have an answering machine? Now the pros and cons ... Pros: lovely setting, tasted 14 different wines. Cons: short pours! Barely 1 1/2 sips which were not nearly enough to get a taste of each wine. Most wines were tart and of the 14 tasted, I would only consider two (Vidal Blanc and Merlot, believe it or not). The experience was nice enough but bring a sweater or coat since this is outside, in the back of their house. My visit was tainted at then end since I had a coupon for two tastings (and had paid for them) however I was solo for this visit. Our "host" (Bob) said he could only honor one tasting since I was alone. When I asked if I could use the balance toward the purchase of a bottle of wine (I was going to buy two) he said no. I felt "nickle-and-dimed". It destroyed the whole experience plus they lost the sale of two bottles of wine. In summary: enjoyable wines but nothing to write home about. Get the impression that this is perhaps a small operation on a budget. I had the opportunity to meet the owner while there. Nice man who has ventured upon a successful "hobby" however not looking to grow. Hence the nickle/diming possibly? I want to like it here, but probably would not go back. No reason when there are other, more accommodating, more organized and more welcoming vineyards in the area ... With better wines. read more

Super pretty winery set in a chill neighborhood. Very nice owner, dog friendly, nice wines. It's a little off in that if you arrive during an ongoing tour, you must wait and wait and wait. If they offered us a glass of wine during the 45 minute wait, it would have been pleasant. Watched 3 couples leave. The winery is in the owner's basement. I liked the Rieslings. My man loved the reds. My man sampled 4 reds and sampled 6 whites. There was a basket of croutons but no other food pairings as others had experienced. It's 10.00 pp and you get to keep a glass. The tour guide was fairly informative. If they can tweak the tours for those waiting, it would be a gem of a winery. A simple suggestion is to open up the tasting for those who are waiting for a tour. Also, a separate area to buy wine outside of tasting area. It's all so congested and inefficient but alas, be mindful and go with the flow..ahhhhhhhh..wine bliss... Still a little worried about the super skinny dog that resides on site. A friend and I visited Coastal Vineyards on a gorgeous Sunday afternoon. Getting there the GPS pointed us on to private streets where threatening signs that cars that don't belong will be towed. Overcoming the nerves to leave the car on the street we found a group behind the residential home turned winery. The host was amazing. He let us know he would be right with us and told us to explore the vines. When the tour started he explained the origins of the vineyard, the wines, and the operations. We were able to see where the wine was made but it would have been nice to be formally shown the vines. After looking around the group was brought to a bar area where samples were distributed in rounds. In addition to the wine the host had made various bread dips, hummus, and even chocolate to go with. He made it an experience explaining which wines pair with which foods for when you cook at home! Overall it's a great place but they could use more staff for the amount of guests and a more formal tour of the vineyard itself. read more

This was our third stop on our vineyard-hopping adventure. We saved the best for last. For $10, I sampled over a dozen wines with a lovely view of the vineyard. Our tour guide was knowledgable and entertaining. He explained the process in a detailed and methodical way that really added to the experience. The wines were varied; some I liked more than others. Warning: This winery is in a residential neighborhood. With a sign that says something about it not being a through-road (or something equally discouraging) at the beginning. Trust your GPS and continue on. Park in front of the house and walk around to the back. The man who was running the tour/tasting was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the wines. One of the wines he had us pair with a bite of chocolate, which was a nice touch. The wines were decent, but I was not overwhelmed. This couple obviously words very hard and puts their heart and soul into this vineyard. We could see them working out there in the heat. And the gentleman who runs the tasting room is knowledgeable and entertaining--worth stopping just for that. We just didn't love the wines--and we are fans of many wines in the area. Coastal Vineyard is close to the end of a private road that probably ends at the beach but you can't see the water or go to the water as that part of the road is unpaved. I never ever condone trespassing, but the urge to do so to see the beach is certainly there. Watch out for the speed bumps along Pardon Hill Road the signs aren't obvious and the bump isn't that well highlighted as they would normally be with brightly colored neon paint. Also, if you want to know how the traffic is in Mass dial 511 in state. The road has tremendous estates set on several acres. The tasting room is in a wood garage behind the house. We had a picnic. I don't know if that's unusual. Greeted by a bespoke Eastern European sommelier and maker of fine chocolates we experienced the full list of wines in the take home etched glass. Whereas in the usual tasting experience you have the soup crackers here there was a well presented wonderful baked crouton bread with an Italian herb & oil dip. The desert wine to enhance your pleasure included hand made chocolate. Quite naughty. My favorite experience with wine is when I taste something slightly unusual. Really the wines were very good but the standouts for me were: Whites: 2010 Estate Chardonnay, 2011 Estate Riesling the undertone does give it some extra personality, so I could say this was my favorite white Reds were all excellent 2010 Seaside Red, 2010 Merlot (pricey), and 2010 Cabernet Franc. Because of the nuance of decadent lifestyle inherent in the desert wine and desert combination the escapist 2010 Ocean Nectar really is a necessity. I had fun. read more

My friend and I came here today for a wine tasting. The path to get to this place is very uninviting and the owner is very unpleasant. There are no really definitive indications that this is a winery other than the vineyard vines at the bottom of a hill and a mailbox. We were going to try this through groupon which has been refunded as we will not return. We followed the tiny arrows pointing down hill for winery and ending up heading back up to the front door. At this point the very unpleasant woman decides now will be the time to stop washing dishes to rudely tell us in her sarcastic tone they are not open today. Only Friday,Saturday and Sunday then promptly shut the door in our faces before we could even say that's not what your hours online clearly state. This place is very pretty. It is in a neighborhood and the road to the vineyard is beautiful. That's pretty much where the fun ends. When you get there, the vineyard ends up being somebody's house. If it's a warm, sunny day you are treated to being held inside while listening to some boring description of how the wine is made there. Stories are added in that are kind of unnecessary from the man who works there. I felt like I was in school as nobody was really allowed to speak to each other. Very awkward. After you get past the tour part of the experience, you are whisked away into another cold room where you can see the view and the sun, but not enjoy it. He keeps talking. There are several wines that you can taste and you will taste every one of them. Literally a drop of every one of them. He does not give you enough to taste even. He said that each pour is .25 ounces of wine, which for me who drinks quite a bit of wine, is about half a normal sip. He tells lengthy stories in between each half of a sip. For the money it is definitely not worth it. I have been to many tastings and really prefer to be able to 1. Go at my own pace. 2. Choose which wines I want to taste 3. Be able to get enough in my glass to have a real sip. 4. Be able to enjoy the day/scenery 5. Socialize. But it is a very pretty place. read more

Beautiful winery - this place is literally run out of a basement and the vineyard is in the backyard. There's no food offering, but you can buy a glass of wine, but I am unsure of where you would really sit to enjoy it. The vineyard owner does have a few loose dogs, but they are friendly - and the newest rescue, Charlotte, is part grey hound, which is why she's so skinny :) Few things that you need to be aware of before going to this winery. First, this is a tour plus a tasting. You will be there for about 30-45 minutes with the 'tour' portion before you do a tasting. If you are pairing this place with another of the local wineries, be prepared to spend 1-3 hours here and plan accordingly. I am unsure if you can just do a tasting without the tour portion - we were there on a relatively slow day, so do not know what the norm is. However, another reviewer also noted that if you arrive during another "tour," you have to wait, which is what occurred with us. On that note, the man who runs the tours (I forget his name), is a talker - he is clearly very very passionate, but this adds to the length of your stay. I did notice that people walked in and left during our visit. It would be nice if they had designated tour and tasting times posted so you can plan accordingly. The pours here are SMALL - barely enough to taste. However, you do get to taste all of the 10+ wines. The winemaker is clearly a fan of dry whites and all of the whites have those subtle differences - I'm just not a fan of dry whites. I am, however, a fan of the reds he offered in the "sassy sisters" collection. I, personally, was not really prepared for such an in-depth tour when I arrived, so waiting 15 minutes to actually get to the tour and then having another 45 minutes of tour before we actually got to the tasting, which took another 45 minutes, was what knocked the stars down. I'm not going to these wineries for a quickie tasting - I hate the ones where you drive 45 minutes to be done in 10 - but at the same time, this was too much. A little difficult to find via GPS because the road is private but once we got the cross roads we got there easily. Its unique, the tasting room is in back of the house the owners live in but the vineyard itself is very picturesque. We brought a picnic enjoyed a wine tasting and bought 4 bottles and drank one with our picnic. We really enjoyed the merlot, cranberry sunset, and ocean breeze.Bob was doing the wine tastings, he was very knowledgeable and entertaining. Yesterday was a perfect day to visit a winery - YES, Coastal is a little hard to find, and when you get there you have to go around the house to the back. The tastings were generous, and very informative. Out host had 2 hummus dishes, bread cubes, and chocolate to pair with the tastings. He was very welcoming, and had a great sense of humor. I am a Reisling girl, but I must say that I very much enjoyed every one of the white wines that were offered. They make a no-oak chardonnay that was wonderful. We bought one bottle of each white wine. By far, this is my favorites of all the New England wineries I have been to. read more

My husband and I visited a few local vineyards to celebrate our anniversary. Coastal Vineyards was our 3rd stop of the day. Beautiful property. The host Bob is great. Very knowledgeable. We had a great time tasting about 9 different wines. I believe Dave the owner was there working. He did not seem too personable but I guess that is why he has Bob. There was a nice variety of whites and reds. The tastings are $10 which they do not list on their website. I was surprised they do not wave the fee when you buy the wine. Maybe because you get to keep the glass. So really you are just paying for the glass. It is worth the trip but maybe share a tasting. read more
