It would be 5 stars if just reviewing the food and service, but the blended drinks my friend and I got is the reason for my rating of 4 stars. As a girl who was born and raised in the Midwest with immaculate BBQ, I was skeptical that San Diego BBQ could be good (no offense I miss you Porky Butts in Omaha, Nebraska... this was the food I had at my wedding...lots of love!). But wow! I was super impressed by their brisket! Prime rib brisket...? Never had heard of her but wow was it so good. It wasn't dry which is easy to do with brisket and it was flavorful. Their BBQ sauce was good. Another amazing thing about Coaster Saloon is they have homemade ranch!!!! :') That was really good with their fries which were also good. The mac n cheese was also incredible. Food was great! Service was also amazing! We had a great server who was friendly and personable. They have lots of cool photos of Belmont Park from years ago as well as an open air concept with lots of seating. There is a big bar as well as lots of tvs inside. The virgin piña colada was probably the worst one I've had. It wasn't a typical white color of a piña colada and wasn't creamy it tasted more like lime citrus. I didn't enjoy it very much. I took the family out to the beach for Mother's Day. Ended up walking by this place and got lured in by the "$4 mystery shot". Trust and believe... it's a $4 shot, ain't gonna be some quality drank! However, it got the job done. The service was awesome! Our waiter was cool, he was attentive, didn't make us feel rushed, and did a good job servicing our table. Keep in mind, I had two kids that couldn't stay still. He handled it well. The food, was ok. We ordered the BBQ plater for two, a classic cheese burger, got the kids a cheese burger, and chicken tenders. The burgers were good! Good classic burger, seasoned well and came out hot. The fries were nice and crispy, could have used a little more salt, but I do like my fries extra salted, The chicken tenders... honestly... was the best dish that we had, it was the kids meal, but you know... I gotta pick at my kids food lol came out piping hot, well seasoned, great texture... and sauced down with their BBQ sauce... fire Now for the actual BBQ platter, I was disappointed in it... we got it with brisket, chicken, and tri-tip (we replaced the pulled pork for tri-tip, an $8 dollar upgrade). Our sides were Mexican corn, fries, & Mac n cheese. The proteins came out kinda cold, they had no smoke taste at all, tasted oven made, and not actual BBQ. The tri-tip was over cooked, and chewy to eat, it's a lean piece of meat, and is easy to over cook, I had to sauce the heck out of it. The brisket had a good texture, was under seasoned in my opinion (I like heavy pepper and salt on my brisket) but it didn't have any bark. I'm use to my bbq have a nice smoke ring and a good bark. The chicken was sauced, and was mid. The sides were aiiight. The Mac n cheese was the best side, the mexican corn was served in a cup, and was just ok. I'm use to Mexican corn being on the cob, rolled in mayo and cotija... with hot sauce! Messy and stuck in my grill. The BBQ sauce carried the whole dish... Overall it was a great experience! I would definitely return here for the vibes, burgers, and those bomb chicken tenders! Not for the bbq. read more

Late night dinner and our waiter was awesome! So attentive, immediately brought over water as it was so humid. Answered our questions, Took our order, provided feedback and just an easy going guy that was very helpful. Food came out pretty quickly and the BBQ was very good. My favorite restaurant to visit after visiting seaworld. I love the Mac n cheese. It's the best I have had. I got a Messi margarita which was okay. I didn't really like it. It was a pretty color but was expecting a little more. We order an appetizer which was the best Mac n cheese. It's so creamy and the breadcrumbs make it wonderful top making it crunchy. My sister order a chicken sandwich with french fries. I ordered a bbq vegan chicken with Mexican corn. The server was nice enough to ask if they had any vegan meat before I place the order to make sure before. It was good, the bbq sauce has a little kick to it. Wings with dry rub were so delicious. We went during the World Cup. They got our party of 2 a seat with another party because the tables and bars were full, and we really appreciated it. We had wings and drinks and watched game, and it was a great experience, when we were not even sure we could find a place with a table. The staff also check in occasionally to see if we need anything, and that's good customer service when the place is packed. read more

This large restaurant and sports bar has large indoor and outdoor seating areas with a large bar area in the center of the restaurant. It was weekday mid afternoon and only a few tables were occupied. TVs line the walls enabling patrons to watch any game televised. Hailey was our server and greeted us warmly. My wife and I ordered cocktails to start. They were strong and well made. It was a great way to get our evening kick started. We ordered the TJ Burger (4/5) and the Kuba sandwich (4/5). Each sandwich came with an abundance of crispy French fries (5/5). My burger was juicy and well made. The grilled jalapeno added some great spice to the burger. The Kuba sandwich is Coasters take on a Cuban sandwich using smoked pulled pork in lieu of roasted pork. They press it so the bread is super crunchy/crispy. I got a few bites of my wife's sandwich and it was pretty tasty. We had a good late lunch at the coaster saloon. My only request to the ownership would be to purchase a flame grill so burgers get that same smoky charred flavor that BBQ lovers appreciate. You have to try this place! I ordered the brisket and hot sausage with bacon potato salad and coleslaw. My food sat in my uber drivers car for over an hour and it was still SO good. I have ate a lot of bbq, and also smoke my own food and I was incredibly impressed with the taste. This will be my new go to when I'm in San Diego. My only suggestion is if you are in a hotel bring your own pack plastic forks. No option to add one, so I had to eat with my coffee stir stick in my room. read more

I ordered via Uber Eats as reviews were good. Maybe it was an off day, idk? I ordered the two meat plate. Portions were very small for what I was expecting - comparing it to the 2 meat plate at similar restaurants. The chicken on the plate was tasty but the tri-tip was pretty dry and chewy. The PBJ burger that I bought for my kid was tasty and unique. Not sure if it would have been any different if I were in person. Was craving BBQ and I wasn't expecting much from a spot right across from Belmont Park, but I was pleasantly surprised at the value and quality of food! I got the bbq feast for a party of 2 and split it between 3 people and we still had some food leftover. The chicken was my favorite of the meat and I was a big fan of their potato salad as well. The baked beans had ground beef in them which threw me off a bit, but overall the platter was great. For a Sunday evening it wasn't too busy and the food came out super fast. read more

I was recently on a work trip and stayed just down the street from the Coaster Saloon. I took a walk there to grab a bite to eat and have a beer. I was extremely happy with my choice. I'd read reviews and decided this was a good place to check out. I ordered a couple local craft beers throughout the time there. I also ordered their Party Fowl chicken sandwich with Carolina Gold sauce. What a tasty sandwich! The entire time I was there, staff stopped over to check in and make sure food was warm and the beer was cold. The atmosphere of this bar and grill was perfect for a low key Wednesday evening dinner. The decor was great! I was glad I made the walk to eat here. There wasn't a whole lot of other sit-down places in the evening in this area. Stopped in on a Wednesday around 4:00 pm. Attentive staff. Good food. Had a rough margarita for $10 and 2 pork sliders for another $10 that were very good. When I got my bill, a 5% service charge had been added to the tax without being itemized or even noted. THIS IS NOT COOL OR ETHICAL! They already charge steep prices for a beach bar. Nothing fancy here. My server pointed out that the charge was explained in fine print at the bottom of the menus. It's time for the Cohn Family Restaurants to knock off this piddling cheesy con, unless they want to change their name to "The Con" group. Be upfront and show your true prices on your menus. To his credit, the server took the extra 5% off my bill without complaining. Also, adding sales tax to drinks bought and consumed at the bar is also tacky. What's next for the Cohn group?
