We stopped by Coasterra during happy hour on a weekday and had a wonderful experience. We were seated outside, and between the perfect weather and breathtaking waterfront views, it was hard to ask for a better setting. We only came for drinks this time. My husband ordered an IPA and said it was one of the best he's had in a long time--refreshing, flavorful, and exceptionally good. I went with the espresso martini, which was delicious and hit the spot. A special shoutout to Stephanie, our server, who was incredibly friendly and checked on us regularly throughout our visit. This location is definitely an upscale Mexican vibe, and I thoroughly enjoyed my experience here. For apps, we shared the calamari and Tempura Jalapeno-Cilantro cauliflower. I loved the cauliflower app. It was well seasoned, and had a good crunch to it. Calamari was good as well. But I highly recommend cauliflower app over calamari. For main course, I got the tempura Mahi Tacos. They were very filling and had a very subtle spicy kick in the tacos. Overall, the food was good for upscale Mexican-esque food. Service was excellent as well. Our waters never ran empty and after apps, they gave us new napkins to set our forks and knives down while they took our small plates away. They even offered to give us a new set of forks and knives. I think it is small details like this that make a difference. The most prominent detail I really liked about this location was the ocean view. We made a reservation for outdoor seating, and had an amazing view of the ocean and sunset. Parking was a little difficult. There's only one row for free self parking, but it is very limited. They offer $10 valet which I had to do because I could not find any parking. Overall, I enjoyed my experience here. Because this restaurant is a more high-end / upscale restaurant, I would recommend this location more for a special occasion or date night rather than a casual place to eat. read more

My new favorite spot in San Diego! I had no idea Reuben E. Lee was gone and this beautiful venue replaced it! I am so glad! This visit we stuck to the Happy Hour menu for food, but the main menu looked so tasty! The margarita very strong and had too much ice, but the wine was tasty! The chips, salsa and guacamole were wonderful and the guacamole was a hearty portion - well worth the cost. Food, views, vibes & service were all 10/10. I came on a Tuesday night at 7pm to celebrate my husband's birthday. It was pretty already, but we had a reservation. We got seated quickly and got lucky with a side table and perfect view of the city. We saw it during sunset and at night with all the lights. They give you chips and salsa to start and we got the spicy margarita and strawberry margarita both were tasty and easy to drink. We opted to get the paella for 2 which takes a little extra time to prepare but was well worth the wait. It was so flavorful with all the seafood being a nice touch of salt. It was a little spicy but the cream sauce balanced it well. The rice was fluffy but crispy on the bottom. It could've fed 4 people probably. We got a complimentary slice of strawberry tres leches and it was the perfect ending to our meal. So incredibly light and not too sweet. Our server, Abdo made our dining experience even better with his friendliness and attention to the fact that we were celebrating something. We are total creatures of habit and always end up at C Level for lunch whenever we're in San Diego, but we've been eyeing Coasterra next door for a while now. Decided to finally mix things up this time, and it did not disappoint! It's definitely an upscale Mexican spot, but the main draw right off the bat is the location. We got hooked up with a waterfront table, and the views of downtown SD and the Coronado Bridge are unreal. Here's what we ordered: Queso Fundido: Started with this and it was delicious. Famous Fajitas (Shrimp & Steak): Hands down the highlight. The meat was super well-seasoned and the charred veggies added so much flavor. Tampiqueña: Really solid and flavorful. Note on the chips: The chips here are a little different than what you usually get at a typical neighborhood Mexican joint--a bit thicker/different texture--but still tasty! All in all, everything was fabulous. If you're stuck in a routine of only going to C Level, definitely give Coasterra a try! We're super glad we finally did. read more

An Unforgettable Birthday Celebration! I took my husband here for his birthday this past Monday, and the entire experience was absolutely incredible from start to finish. First, the location and the views are simply stunning. It set the perfect backdrop for a celebratory evening. But what really elevated the vibe was the music! The playlist was so on point that I literally found myself dancing in my seat to every single song. It created such a fun, lively energy. I also have to give a massive shoutout to our waiter, who was incredibly attentive, warm, and anticipated our every need. The entire staff went above and beyond to make my husband feel so wonderfully celebrated. I am a huge fan of all of the Cohn restaurants. Coasterra is one of the only ones in San Diego that I had never experienced until now. So I was very excited to see what this place had to offer. Celebrated my daughter's 19th birthday here this week, and to be honest, I was not impressed. The location and views from this place are unmatched. Tons of covered patio seating with a breathtaking view of the downtown skyline. As for the food, it was just ok. It was mostly mexican seafood, but there was a good mix of other items like steak and a wagu burger. Everything was served hot and fresh, but in my honest opinion, everything just lacked flavor. Everything I tasted was just bland, and I tasted a little bit of all of my family's meals. But everyone agreed. Maybe we are just spoiled with San Diego Mexican food. My biggest complaint of the night was the service. Our waiter started off well. He took our drink orders and when he returned, asked if we wanted to get appetizers started, which we did. Our appetizers came out and were finished and we still had not seen our server to order our main dinner. This continued to be the issue all night, we were constantly looking and waiting for our server. There were other servers that came around and filled our drinks and took our plates, and they were great! But we really didn't see our main server most of the night. And one of the times that we did walk by, my daughter asked for a new glass of water because she had dropped food into the glass. He took the glass and never came back. I ended up giving my daughter my water. I did notice that the servers at the other tables were awesome. They were attentive, and we constantly saw them checking on their guest. And like I said, we are fans of all of the Cohn restaurants we have dined at before, so the level of service we received is not typical. Maybe our server was new??? I will say, this is not a cheap place to eat. My family of 5 spent almost $240 and that was with no alcohol or desserts. So you would expect to receive a high level of service. Other than the ambience, our experience was just ok. So the second time around, I would have to say this was a much better experience. I did go during lunch and not dinner. Our server David was super attentive and welcoming. He kept checking in on our food and we did hit a hiccup which was we put in the order for the kids first, but it didn't come till much after our adult entrées came so again I would say the consistency still need some growth but overall it was much better than my last time. You can see the picture where our food wise and we waited for about 12 minutes until the kids food came. I will give the extra Star because of David and the service that he provided checking in on us refilling our water. He was very attentive and very kind This time we did try some new dishes like the mahi tacos, which were good, but the fish was a little tough. The trout plate which was cooked actually very well and my kids both got hamburgers. Again, beautiful scenery and the food was overall good for some reason we had a hiccup again. Delicious food, great view, and wonderful hospitality! On our last evening in San Diego, we went to Coasterra to wrap up our vacation there. This restaurant came highly recommended by major Visit San Diego websites, and we felt we should give it a try. Located right next to the water, the restaurant offers expansive view of the harbor and the San Diego skyline. Sitting is about 50/50 indoor vs. outdoor, and we chose the indoor sitting as it tended to get colder in the evening. Parking is available out front, but we took Lyft there. We came in around Happy Hour, and we were able to score two appetizers for $11 each. We got fried calamari and fish cervice as appetizers. For entree, we had the fish tacos and scallops. Both of the appetizers were excellent, and the cervice was so light and flavorful. My husband loved his scallop entree, and the taste and presentation were original and outstanding. My fish taco was enjoyable as well. For dessert, we had fresh churro that was paired with ice cream, which was excellent as well. Our meal came to $143 with taxes, which was a very good value with the quality and services offered. Our waiter was attentive and friendly, which made us felt right at home. Coasterra is easily one of my favorite restaurants in San Diego. The food has a great fusion of flavors, and I love that so many of the dishes have plenty of spice and actually taste bold and flavorful. The calamari is a must for me every time I come. It definitely has a kick, so beware if you're sensitive to spice, but it's so good. The queso fundido is another favorite and great for sharing. I've tried quite a few of the entrées over different visits. The Mexican paella was really good, the ancho chile roasted salmon is another standout, and the Pork & Chile Colorado Cazuela was incredibly tender and packed with flavor. Definitely save room for dessert too. The butter cake was delicious, and the churros were just as good. Beyond the food, one of the biggest reasons to come here is the location. The outdoor patio has amazing views looking across the water toward downtown San Diego and makes the whole experience even better, especially around sunset. read more

The food was good and for the setting (both the establishment and the city) was not overpriced. Our server was friendly and took good care fo us. We likely will not be going back simply because the place was just too loud. My wife and I spent the evening shouting back and forth to each other other. It's quite large, the music is loud, and they don't do anything to dampen the sound. Their giant patio was hosting someone's business event as well as some family affairs, which meant we had a bunch of toddlers (one of whom was in only a diaper) running around on the other side of the glass. That's fine, families have to go out too it's just not what we expected from this particular place when we made the reservation. My daughter held her 3 hour wedding gathering party here, with about 75 attendees, and Coasterra knocked it out of the park for us. We had a dedicated dining room, and everything was set up when we got there. The bartender was fast and friendly, and the drinks were great. The buffet line was beautifully presented and the food was delicious. They quickly cleared used plates, refilled water glasses, and kept the lines fresh. The parking lot is well-run. Wow! If you're looking for a beautiful view of San Diego skyline and Coronado Island this is the place. It's always a great place to stop before or after going to the airport because it's that close. We originally went there for an early dinner, but happened to meet the happy hour time frame (3:30-5:30). They have a wonderful array of drinks and appetizers to choose from. The most expensive being $11.00. Each appetizer is enough for two people. A man at the bar asked me if I wanted some of his guacamole dip because he could finish it all. He looked like that was his dinner meal too. I declined, since I was favoring the ceviche and chicken tinga tostadas. Both tasted delicious. I heard the bacon wrapped jalapeño were good but not gf. So I didn't try them. The views from our table were spectacular. They had many GF options listed on their menu. We sat at the bar for a bit and the bartender was so attentive! genuinely friendly, and every drink he made was spot on. We decided to start with an appetizer at the bar We ordered the fish ceviche, which was sooo goood and super fresh and full of flavor. And they do not hold back on the tortilla chips... seriously, it's a whole boatload!! When our main entrées came out, I was a little surprised. My dish ended up being smaller than I expected, and it came with white rice (I had swapped the beans for mushrooms). It felt a bit under-seasoned, and I did have to ask for salt and pepper to bring it to life. On the other hand, my boyfriend ordered the Wagyu hamburger and said it was amazing!! the overall experience was still great. The comments do NOT reflect my server, as he was really good So I ventured here from Torrey Pines in the middle of rush hour (clearly a non-resident rookie mistake). The atmosphere is beautiful, nestled on the water, and downtown, you could not ask for a better view. The chips and salsa were good. I wish they had refilled my salsa. The appetizer: This was a total miss. I usually can eat it, but the lack of flavor and depth was disappointing. The main entrée was painful. The chicken was so dry and under-seasoned that it was hard to eat. I had to get extra sauce, which was more oily than expected. The lemon added good acidity to the chicken, but they should use thighs if they are cooking it for that long. I will say the skin was nice and crispy, and the food was actually hot. The espresso martini was a bit underwhelming since it tasted like cold brew, but again, it wasn't terrible, and it didn't blow me away. The churros were AMAZING!!!!!! What a Beautiful spot to enjoy lunch after arriving in San Diego. Stopped here right after flying in as I was starving and we were ready to start our vacation. We enjoyed some cocktails and share some appetizers and a salad. The corn pudding was a little dry but had good flavor I'm just used to it being much more moist like a pudding vs a corn bread. The guac was delicious although I could use more heat and cilantro but that's a personal preference. The salad was excellent the shrimp was cooked perfectly and all the flavors worked well together. It was delicious and not too citrusy as some others can be. Service was a bit slow, but I believe it's because our waiter was giving us time to enjoy our appetizers before ordering. My husband wanted to try the short rib enchiladas, as he saw it on a yelp post, but when we inquired with our waiter he said it hasn't been on the menu for the past 4 years which I found strange, that someone just posted about it a month ago..... I order the mahi taco that came with rice and beans. The rice tasted way better than it looked. It was very flavorful! The beans also had great flavor too. The fish was nicely battered and fried with pico de gallo in a flour tortilla. My husband got the seafood enchiladas that also came with rice and beans. He said it was really good as he ate everything on his plate. All-in-all, this was a great restaurant with great food and service. You get to take in San Diego's night views from a unique vantage point, and the scenery is breathtaking. Boasting unbeatable ocean views, the restaurant faces straight toward the downtown skyline and the Coronado Bridge. Sunset hour offers incredible photo opportunities. It features a huge outdoor terrace with fire pits and refreshing ocean breezes, making it perfect for watching sunsets, snapping photos, or romantic dates. The weather wasn't ideal the day I went, and I arrived a little late, so I missed the sunset glow, but I still had an amazing experience overall. The menu centers on modern Mexican cuisine and fresh seafood. Must-orders include table-side guacamole made fresh right at your table, ceviche and aguachile with ultra-fresh seafood, fish and shrimp tacos, as well as Mexican paella meant to share for two. Their fried cauliflower appetizer was also outstanding! The bill came out to around $55 per person, and it's totally worth the price given the stunning surroundings. Coasterra is one of our favorite spots in San Diego. The view across the water of the downtown San Diego skyline is absolutely stunning and makes the whole experience. (What a way to showcase Southern California). Great for a lunch or dinner date. I personally like mid-week since it's less busy and we usually get the perfect table although the view is great wherever you are seated. We (my husband and I) always come back for the delicious coconut margarita, which you can even order by the pitcher. The rim is lined with toasted coconut, and it is so so good. The service is usually very good, which makes the experience even better. We also love ordering the Aquachile -- it is so fresh and citrusy with just the right amount of spice. This is our favorite place for appetizers and margaritas (specifically Deb's Coconut) We don't usually make it to the main meal because the coconut margaritas end up being our meal lol. read more

Kind and attentive, she was able to resolve a minor issue professionally and to our satisfaction. We ended our beautiful "girls day" by having an early dinner here at Coasterra. It was my first time, and my friend had made a reservation for our party of 5. I was surprised when reading some of the reviews about the service. This definitely was not the case for us. Rather, we were greeted by friendly smiles and seated promptly. Our kind and friendly server, Ricky, was a pro at handling his busy section and checked in with us often to make sure we were okay. The interior is modern, spacious with ample seating, and the bayfront view from the patio was just phenomenal, especially at twilight. I was WOW'd. Came for their Christmas lunch menu and it was such a great experience. Thanks to the coasterra team for such a memorable meal! This restaurant has the best views of San Diego's bay front, their Christmas buffet brunch was loaded with flavor, and service was excellent! They had an extensive holiday menu, I ate literally everything on the menu, and there was not one thing that I didn't enjoy. I will definitely look to come back to try their regular menu. If you're heading out to Coasterra, do yourself a favor and go. The view alone is worth the trip, you're right on the water looking out at the San Diego skyline, and honestly it feels like a mini escape without leaving the city. We grabbed a table for our whole crew, kids included, and settled in for what turned out to be a really memorable evening. Now, no meal is perfect, and ours had a funny little hiccup. We ordered the shrimp salad, and it showed up... shrimp-less. Just a salad. We laughed about it because hey, things happen, but what really made the night was how it got handled. Our server Erika noticed something was off before we even said much, and she jumped right on it. Not only did she get the dish fixed and out to us fast, she also surprised the kids with free dessert, no fuss, no attitude, just genuine hospitality. That's the kind of service that turns a small mistake into a story you actually want to tell. The rest of the meal was great too. Fresh flavors, a menu that leans into that coastal Mexican-meets-California vibe, and a setting that makes everything taste a little better. Awesome view of the bay, perfect ambiance. Girls night out, we had cocktails and appetizers but by the time we got most of our food we were all stuffed from eating chips and table side guacamole!!! Service is okay and food was okay but nothing will beat the view of the bay! read more
